Can we just stop with the English? We know that Rain sounds like a smooth cat when he speaks in his native Korean, but turns into a foolish little monkey when he speaks in his adopted tongue. After watching the short preview of his comeback special, “Here comes Rain” on MBC, all I wanted was to hear him speak in Korean (and I am trying desperately to be nice!). Ok, what I really felt after watching this short clip was scratching my eyeballs out with a thin and sharp toothpick. No, not pleasant at all. And not something I would want to watch again.
The clip of Rain was aired during the MBC Special – ‘I Am Lee Young Ae’ on September 26th.
Rain’s full special will rain on MBC on October 10th, 2008.

You know, I don’t know if its from me reading these blogs but I’m started to dislike Rain and its funny cuz he was the one that brought me over from black R&B and hip-hop to falling madly in love with Korean music. I’m even so close to deleting his songs off my Ipod.

I do not see what is so horrible about Rain’s English.
He’s trying his best. And of course he is going to more than likely have an accent, so I wish you’d stop giving him such a hard time about it.
He still looks good. Though his English is kinda embarrassing, I still wait for his comeback.
The only way to learn how to speak english is to… *drumroll* speak English! The more he speaks it, the better he will become. It sometimes takes years for some people to become fluent in another language. He can’t stop speaking English. The only way he’ll get better is to…say it with me now… SPEAK ENGLISH.
I wish him much success. Lord knows he’s put up with enough crap chasing his dream.

I find it extremely funny that those who are hysterically critical of Rain’s engrish have serious issues with English grammar as well. Remember, those who live in glass houses shouldn’t be casting stones.

On the other hand, Jacky Chan and Jet Li don’t have perfect English – not as perfect as Park’s (which Park, JY Park or Joon Park?? nevermind), anyway – but they have good careers in Hollywood. To those people whom are really good in speaking English same time can write in English well,should be thankful and be proud
but not to be rude to those can’t do it properly.
One reason is,Rain wasn’t born in an English nation,w/out proper background in English language as he grew up.So,what we’re waiting for from him nor ecpecting from him?He needed most from those people who are really good in English language,I think your understanding and patience.
Being an ESL stydent is not easy as like that to learn from the scratch.It is really hard to do it and to learn about it ‘coz when you get older, there is a thing called it a habit.At his age,its really hard to make it 100 percent pronounce it perfectly.But he tried his best at least to speak few words in English,he’s trying his best and to proved that he learned in his studies.But not to show off to the world that his good,maybe that was our own interpretation about it.. I’m proud of you man!!!

its funny when people think he is a loser, his career downhill, his english suck, he makes his asian fellow embarrased, etc but he still in the news, even with his broken english, he still manage to have a major lead in hollywood movie.

i’m not a rain fan but i can see that the guy is really trying his best. it’s not easy learning a new language. let’s cut him some slack. rain, though, should be less self-conscious when it comes to speaking in english. look at jackie chan. despite his halting english, he is still adorable. the important things are the person’s sincerity and passion. XD

I’m sorry to be a butthurt to you, Cats. But I, unlike you, know what I’m talking about. I’m not a newbie in this blog ( I have been here even before the whole drama with this blog happened) and I have read that renzus’ comments. And yes, he said his age here and where he is from. But seriously, to me it’s not so much his English but rather – the voice. When he speaks in Korean, of course he sounds confident, relaxed, articulate, manly. But in the English voice, his tone and pitch are much different and I cringe a little when I hear it as I know he’s kind of struggling still. I know he’s trying hard nad he’s still learning so I continue to wish him well nonetheless.

Poor Rain. I think he needs to take time and really practice. Se7en runs circles around him. He talks with a lot of ease. It’s wierd but its like he has a split personality because of how he processes and deals with the languages.
I think his hot body makes up for his crappy english..hehehe
