The entertainment community is reeling from another shocking loss.
Choi Jin-shil took her own life on October 2nd. No one would have thought something so tragic could have happened. Looking back on the day before her death, Choi Jin-shil went about her work as usual. She had a photoshoot at a Kangnam studio in the afternoon and went out for drinks with her manager in Shinsa-dong. After drinking 3 bottles of soju, she told her manager, “I want to die.” At home in her Jamwon-dong home, she told her mother, “I am sad and disappointed in people. Why do they bother me like this? I have nothing to do with the loans…” At 12 pm, she went to bed. At 4 am, her mother discovered that the bathroom door was locked. At 6am, a locksmith unlocks the door and her body is discovered. At 7:34, the police arrived on the scene.
With the recent deaths of Ahn Jae-hwan, and Lee Eon, the entertainment community has lost another star. We hope that there will be no more of these type of tragic losses.
And we hope that Choi Jin-shil can finally rest in peace.
Ahn Jae-woo, Byun Jung-woo, Choi Ji-woo, Shin Aera
Go Su, Jo Sung-min, Jung Joonha
Jung Sun-hee suffers another loss. Our hearts go out to you.
Kim A-joong, Kim Jung-min
Kim Nam-ju, Lee Byung-heon
Lee Seung-yeon, Lee Sora, Lee Jung-ja
Noh Hong-chul, Yoo Jae-suk, Park Myung-soo
Shinae went to Choi Jin-shil’s house on the morning of the 2nd upon hearing the news.
Shin Ae-ra, Uhm Jung-hwa, Yoon-Eun-hye
My Korean teacher was all broken up over her death. Korea’s really had a tough year. This is so sad.
It’s real sad to hear. May they all RIP.
Heart-breaking. You can see the rush of true emotion.
R.I.P.
Oh my God…ppl all look so sad, may she rest in peace…
Poor everyone. Why the heck people think they’ll solve out everything with self-suicide?!darn.
it’s so sad to hear about her passing away. for sure
she will be missed by her family especially her kids.
may she rest in peace.
This is just soooooo sad…
R.I.P CJS T.T
may you rest in peace. for those she left behind I hope they move on especially her daughthers.
“Jung Sun-hee suffers another lose.” it’s loss not lose.
RIP
this is heart wrenching to see.
so sad…RIP choi jin-shil.
please let’s get through the remaining 3 months of 2008 without losing anymore people to suicide.
just hope this will not happen any more
Rip
such a sad year. the guy from monday kiz, turtleman, lee eon, anh jae hwan…and now choi jin shil. gosh please let it not be like this next year. rip choi jin shil.
why most of the stars in Korea commit suicide???i don’t get it…not at all!…unreasonable really..feel bad co’z they’re really great entertainer….
it is so sad
sometimes i wonder if the paparazzi has gone over the edge or smth.
i mean judging frm what she said before her suicide,it seems like its the constant reports linking her to the loans that tipped her over the edge.
its sad to lose yet another great actor…RIP.
to see how hard it hit the celebrities heightens the sadness cause you get a glimpse of how loved she was.
awwwww, everyone crying makes me want to cry as well.
Seeing them cry..makes me wanna cry² q.q
R.I.P
She must have fell into deep, deep grief in order for her to take her life away from so many friends.
RIP
Well that was stupid, killing herself just because of a rumour when she has two young children,
anyway R.I.P
I feel so sorry for Jung Sun-Hee
moohandojun must have been filming when they heard the news.. they always film on thursdays…
anyway, omgnesss… jung sunheeeee…TT_TT
i dont think it was JUST the rumour that drove her to suicide. apparently she has been depressed for over a year…
imagine how hard life must have been for her if she chose DEATH despite 2 beautiful children and all her wonderful friends…
So sad!
I couldn’t sleep all day yesterday but finally slept today. I have no relation with her and I’ve only seen part of her “Last Scandal” drama and now I’m not so sure if I can finish it with a smile. I really liked Choi Jin Sil and I’m still sad to know that she has passed away so early.
God bless her, her children, family, friends, and the Korean entertainment industry.
I know how it is to lose a parent at such a young age!
Aja fighting!
What the hell is the guys wearing jeans, hats and dyed hair? Such disrespect for the deceased. I wonder how her little brother is holding up…
omg.. first Ahn Jae-hwan, Lee Eon and now her.. rest in peace. ^^
does anyone know why life in korea promt people to commit suicide like that? this is very sad. r.i.p.
this is really sad.
i hope that people in korea especially those netizens including media who keep on maliciously accusing people of something in which they do not have any proofs to mellow down on demeaning and accusing people who they don’t know.
suicide rate in korean has gone up drastically. it’s the 4th highest cause of death according to ohmynews online.
i really hope that what i read is true, that the government of korea will soon be implementing stricter laws on netizens and media (punitive measures involving libel on the Internet) to put an end to malicous online comments.
i hope this will be an eye-opener to people especially to those netizens and media who only know how to make accusations and spread unfounded rumors.
punitive measures involving libel on the Internet.
So many people feeling sorry for her, but why?
She killed herself when she has two kids to take care of. What about the fact that those kids have to go the rest of their life without their mother because she took the easy way out and acted rash and selfish?
Jesus Christ, yeah it sucks that a celebrity killed herself. Yeah, society puts pressure on them. But it’s on everybody in society, and it’s up to the individual to make decisions.
She choose to end her pain over taking care of her children.
That’s what you all should be sick about.
wow…three funerals and a wedding…
Hope there is no more…
The metro (uk paper) did a tiny segment baout her toay. I saw it in the papers
RIP Choi Jin Shil. It seemed like just yesterday when I watched your hit drama with Ahn Jae Wook “Star in my heart” …at that time i thought “this lady has a really kind face and gentle feeling (maybe an innocent look?)…”
just hearing the song “forever” by AJW on youtube reminds me of you
Roflcopter, you obviously werent raised by a depressed, suicidal mother. Trust me, ending her pain may have been the best thing she did for her children in a long time.
WOW who would’ve thought? Now i’m most concerned about Jung Sun-hee because if she cracks, anything can happen. People should watch out for her.
She wasn’t in her right state of mind when she did this, no one who commits suicide is, so no one has the right to judge. When a person falls into depression, which is a disease, when left untreated that does turn as deadly as cancer, the last thing they want to think about it getting help. I hope something positive comes out of these sad events, that people will start taking such signs from those around them seriously and urge them to get help.
MY HEART IS SO BROKEN RIGHT NOW…I AM A FILIPINA AND I HAVE WATCHED “A ROSY LIFE”‘ AND SINCE THEN I ALREADY LIKED HER TOO MUCH….SHE IS SUCH A VERY OUTSTANDING ACTRESS….
AS SOON AS I KNEW THE NEWS….I FELT LIKE MY WORLD STOPPED….I WAS SO SHOCKED……
SHE SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF HER TWO DAUGHTERS……
THAT WASN’T THE ONLY WAY OUT TO ANY PROBLEM…..
THIS IS THE MOST AWFUL NEWS I HAVE EVER HEARD….
MAY U REST IN PEACE….=CHOI-JIN SIL=
RIP Choi Jin Sil. I still can’t believe she left like that. I have sorrows for her passing but only sympathy for her kids. She didn’t think of her kids? If not, then I just lost a lot of my respect for her.
Jung Sun Hee, wow, what a tough month for her. She’s already so skinny and pale. Keep your chin up.
to ria: are you dumb?
i mean for real, i guess you do the same and leave your children behind? i feel sorry she died but she made that choice. it’s a cop out to do such a thing. i’m sorry i really don’y get korean entertainment, you got all of asia in your finger tips and you want to throw it away?? she was beautiful, had a great life and had 2 wonderful children and then throws it away? everybody gotta go thru some rough times to see a better tomorrow. ending her pain, my butt! what about the pain she gave her children now because of this? like i said i feel sorry this happened, but at the same time, i don’t. call me cruel, evil whatever. my life isn’t the greatest but i cherish every good time i come across. well let the hate mail begin!
I HAVE BEEN TO A DEPRESSION BEFORE…..IT WAS REALLY VER HARD, I ALSO WANTED TO TAKE MY OWN LIFE…BUT EVERYTIME I THINK ABOUT THAT…..I ALWAYS THINK ABOUT MY DAUGHTER AND THATS WHAT HAS BEEN PULLING ME NOT TO…..
LIFE IS FULL OF SUFFERINGS, WE CAN NEVER LIVE PERFECT….
BUT THAT’S THE REASON WHY THE LORD GAVE US WISDOM TO RULE ON EVERYTHING AND FIGHT OVER….
LET US ALL PRAY THAT NO ONE WILL EVER BE INTO THIS KIND ANYMORE…
GOD BLESS KOREA……
Rosemarie,
She has a daughter and a son.
Rest in peace, Choi Jin Sil. You will be missed.
ROSEMARIE MADARANG:
you had something that brought you back though, your daugther. you knew she needs you just as mch as you need her. don’t let go of that one good thing in your life.
roflcopter22,
Why? How would you feel if you lose a love one? Most of these people on POPSEOUL may not know her but atleast we are showing respect for those who have passed. Again, we shouldn’t criticize wrongly of someone because we don’t know what they have been through.
I’m against suicide and to be honest, I don’t quite understand it but I don’t find it necessary to use it against him or her, or in this case to Choi Jin Sil. Through this tragic times, we all need to come together and not the other way around!
the latest photos of jung sung-hee are encouraging.
she looks the most sober in the past month.
maybe choi jin-sil’s death snapped her out of it. like she’s the only one left to be brave about her life. she can’t join the rest of them this way.
(maybe just my wishful thinking?)
she’s practically walking by herself. so that’s good sign.
Korea has, annually, one of the highest suicide rates in the OECD list of countries. It must be a national mentality for it to be so high. It has become so commmonplace that you can often hear people excalim “I want to die” in their native tongue over trivial matters (I am aware that this is not a declaration but it is worrying that it is used so often and easily). Yes, I’m aware that people go through tough times, but I agree with seoul86 and roflcopter22, she was a mother and should have thought about her children and family. Yes, I’m also aware that we don’t know the full story and that she must have been severely depressed to even be in that state of mind. The Korean government should really step in and try to provide more preventative measures for depressed people here. I think people should be respectful but they really should be praying for her children and family - not just her.
everyone has been so shaken up by this, and rightfully so. the Korean internet community is so messed up - look at how many people it has driven to depression and suicide.
RIP 최진실. looking at these photos makes me want to cry… esp. Jung Sun-Hee - my heart just goes out to her… imagine losing a husband as well as a friend within the span of a month…
i liked her and she was someone special
she will stay in our heart forever.
RIP CJS
Its the second funeral YEH visited.
this sucks! i thought she was familiar n then i rmr she was in that movie w/ ahn jae wook? omg she still look so pretty >< its kindah hard to understand y u want to suicide especially when you still hv so many good things behind you then just debt! ppl just need to talk to someone else b4 they make dumb decisions like that! R.I.P. n good luck to your family
RIP Chaejinshil <3333 rest in heaven~
R.I.P
she will be greatly missed.
in Korea talking with a psychiatrist and seeking emotional help should not be shunned or a taboo. If seeking psychiatric help was not as condemned in Korea as in the U.S., maybe celebs and other individuals would think twice about committing suicide.
I can’t help it, I tried not to leave any comments at all regarding the passing of the Kcelebs.
But the more I read, the more I can’t resist. I do not get why she chose to ended up her own life. specially if she had nothing to do with the loaned. She fought hard for her two young kids, and at the end she did this???? like? I hope She Rest In Peace, but I just don’t think that she will. She must be suffering right now to just to think about her kids. poor children and parent. I hope they will grow up hating soju. (Soju = many mistakes and unresponsible act ) My head’s tired from shaking left and right. I just really do not understand how someone, who can fight custody and all those stuff chose a bad ending like this.
When Koreans do things, they do things in extremes without thinking rationally.
When someone says “this particular food is good for health”, the whole nation follows the trend and that food becomes extinct the next day. When a middle school student decided to do a candle lit protest, the whole nation joined like it was World Cup 2002 parade. When netizens got together and threatened the nation to watch and support D-War (movie), the whole nation went to see it and supported it even though it was one of the worst movies ever produced–and if you were honest in criticizing it, you were questioned of your nationalism. When you see a celebrity wear a particular fashion (Suh In-Young’s bowl cut), the whole nation follows the trend. When there is a popular phrase or dance (ie TELL ME, speaking English), the whole nation learns it and for those who don’t, you become an outcast. Every parent sends their child to English Hakwons just to fit in with the rest of the society. When your friends look good by wearing expensive clothes or doing plastic surgery, you have this extreme obligation to do the same.
Should I go on or have you had enough? It seems to be that the Koreans have adapted the Western culture of things, but due to their difference and uniqueness, they are quite not getting it and using it to proper use.
^^^But of course with that, it can be used to good use. Just see how much they have modernized from the 50’s. Ethiopia used to send aids to us! Only a country like Korea and its strong people could overcome such obstacle. So pick your poison.
Can’t most of you even type ‘rest in peace’ instead of RIP… At least pay proper respect to the deceased!
She was a beautiful lady… May her soul rest in peace~
i dont feel sorry for this lady. look at what she put her family and friends through! koreans are nutcases.
roflcopter22..i totally agree with you..nowadays, we need to be strong for our loved ones to survive in this cruel world..prayers will really help for all of us..
it pisses me off when people say “omg how could she do that why do people suicide, it’s so stupid.”
you jerks, please realize how some people go through more difficult emotions than others.
stop being so self-centered and see the big picture. Some people suffer so much more alone, and they’re not always having a great life like you are.
why can’t people just mourn her death instead of blaming her? Save the discussion about the morality of suicide for another day. RIP Choi Jin-shil.
and plus, the netizens of korea are so fcked up.
they seriously leave biting words that can emotionally tear someone apart. there may have been tons of them that wrote things that hit her deep down. an example of this are the comments we even leave up on popseoul. people need to stop fcking criticizing the celebrities. it’s their fcking life!!! we don’t care if someone looks fat or had a thing with another! leave them to make their own path in life.
RIP
i really really hope that jung sun hee will stay strong.
popseoul! check your spelling. loss, not lose.
so sad to hear this, she’s a great actress, hope she can rest in peace . another suicide, so please antifans, although u dont like some singer or actor/actress, please respect them as a human , dont say crap things about them, u dont like them, u dont need to show it to everybody, they’re celebrity but they’re human like us, they have feeling too
ethiopia sent AIDS to us?
lmao. that comment is too funny and ignorant for words so i won’t even address.
i came on here to pay my respects even though I have no idea who this woman was. my heart just hurt for her family and friends. and then i scroll down the comments and see the usual litany of uninformed opinions cloaked as facts.
let me post my comment before i say something disrespectful and completely irrelevant in the face of this tragedy.
what’s with the korean celebs? its scary
Excuse me? What about her two beautiful Boy and a Girl? Has anyone thought about the psychological damage this could have on these kids? I’m having hard time understanding why end your life when you have fight so hard to obtain the custody of these kids.
I can’t imagine how painful it must have been for Choi to make the decision that she made. Civilian like us probably won’t understand the pressure of these entertainers go through. But let’s not forget that each individual made there own decision and they have to take the goods and the bads. I’m not writing this to piss people off. I’m writing this so that we all can learn from this tragedy and look back on what we have and appreciate what we have and no matter how harsh the situation might be, let’s fight through it and don’t make the choice that Ms. Choi has taken
I feel especially bad for Jung Sun Hee. She lost both her husband and friend in the course of a month… Hope she, along with everyone else, will be okay.
OMG I loved her drama “Star in my heart” with Ahn Jae Wook… she was so vibrant, so beautiful… she was really the original Screen Queen before eveb Kim Hee Sun…
Even after her divorce, she made good career choices by starring in “The Last Scandal”… I almost couldn’t recognise her as the dowdy ahjuma but i must really applaud her acting skills..
Why? I don’t understand, you were doing so well after your divorce…. sorry if i don’t make sense, i’m crying now…
RIP, God bless your children
@ oluchi
“Aid” as in resource/help. Not the disease.
Are you even familiar with the Korean culture? Since you have “no idea who this woman was”, it appears that you don’t.
Do you realize how filthy poor Korea was back in the 50’s? It was a 3rd world country. And it’s a miracle to see where they are right now. The level of progression takes other countries 200 years. It took Korea 40 years.
oh my.. what will happen to the kids? Her husband??
I feel sorry for Jung SunHee.
I hope that this will not make SunHee to do sth bad like suicide as well.. i hope not..
RIP Choi JinShil.
ohh so Sinae was gunna go to Choi Ji Shil to like chill? I see…that’s gotta be a big shocker.
I always see the ladies come out after a funeral covering their mouths in the recent korean celeb deaths. Is that them just trying to act sad?
OK WE NEED TO WATCH OUT BECAUSE JUNG SUN HEE MIGHT COMMITT SUICIDE TOO AFTER THESE DEATHS….im just saying
Another sad news…
RIP Choi Jin Shil…
Hope there will be no more this kind of sad news again…
MAY HER REST IN PEACE.
“Do you realize how filthy poor Korea was back in the 50’s? It was a 3rd world country. And it’s a miracle to see where they are right now. The level of progression takes other countries 200 years. It took Korea 40 years.”
THat is good but it still doesn’t address mental illness in Korea. One can’t always skate by on image maybe that is the problem. South Korea is techologically advanced but culturally stagnant and both need to be on equal level
where is the apology from media themselves? they reported the false rumors that damaged choi’s reputation and peace of mind. they printed it like it’s proven fact. they kept at it as long as netizens gossiped about choi.
why don’t they admit being the messenger of such evil act? now they try to romanticize her life story like a tragic K Drama? shame on them.
i don’t understand what it is about Korean culture and celebrity that tells Korea’s famous people that suicide is an option.
let’s not get it twisted. suicide is something that happens in any country, be it Korea, the US, Europe….the sad fact is that its everywhere.
but its really alarming when so many of Korea’s celebrities commit suicide. it seems like there’s a couple every year. i’m not saying that one suicide is more traumatic or devastating than another but in what other country do celebrities who have been highly successful like Choi Jin Shil commit suicide? that would be the equivalent of mega soap star Susan Lucci here in the US being found hanging in her home.
but there is an underlying dark cloud that hovers over the Korean celebrity community…and Korea in general. maybe there is too much pressure in Korea to succeed, to much pride to save face, to keep honor, etc.
whatever it is, its not good, and though my motherland’s government may not care enough to make changes in laws to ease pressure off people by regulating debts and bankrupcies, the Korean people need to change their way of thinking.
i really blame the Korean internet community for perpetuating hate and cruelty toward people to a point where it would lead them to fall into a downward spiral that results in death. are netizens directly responsible? no. but they did have a hand in pushing them over the edge.
Koreans and mankind in general need to follow the basic tenants of humanity. love your neighbor, and reach out to lift someone up in their time of need instead of knocking them down.
something needs to change and it starts with each and every one of us.
i hope this is the finale wake up call to lots and i mean lots of internet portal. it is easy to write word but how much it effect other is something we never take into consideration.
(Please fix the name from Lee Jung-Ja to Lee Young-Ja)
I think korean celebrities suffer the most from fans, antifans, netizens, Internet crap.
im sad, angry, overwhelmed….
i cant put what i am feeling into any words
Internet rumors might only be a small part of the problem. Many prominent celebrities have committed suicide long before the modern internet was around. People that were well liked, such as Seo JiWon, Chang Deok, Kim KwangSeok, etc.
Chinalicious wrote:

Chinalicious!
If you don’t have anything good to say, then keep your mouth shut. If you are Chinese, then represent your community in a better way.
@ dwilliams
I guess the point I was trying to say is that the present culture of Korea has been shaped by many pieces of the puzzle. The most obvious case that I can think of is their history. The miraculous economic growth (which only 50 years ago Korea was poorer than Africa) took Korea to the forefront of modernity–although, Korea continues to drag its cultural baggage from the pre-modern, agricultural era. And with the fact that the past 4000 years of Korean history, only 10 percent of the time Korea was NOT under some sort of invasion, usually from China or Japan. These factors have made Koreans very defensive and constantly care about what other people think about them.
So going back to what I said earlier in my first post, if a popular trend develops in Korea, Koreans follow that trend without thinking twice about it, because other people do it too. At times, this is a source of great national strength. When there is something that demands a truly national-scale cooperation, like the World Cup or the recent Mad Cow candle lit protest– there is no better people than Koreans to extract that cooperation. However, infuriatingly, a trend often makes many Koreans lemmings.
It’s kind of rude of me to say, but finally these people show actual emotion.
Lee Eon’s funeral looked like a fashion show where the youngins went all dolled up and whatnot.
This is a true funeral, with actual emotion.
RIP.
@ michlee
Yea. Choi Jin-Sil is a HUGE figure in Korea. Probably one of the most recognized and respected female celebrity. She is a legend. She defined what beauty is in the modern entertainment era (in the early 90’s). This is a huge loss and a big hit to the county’s morale.
This is so very heartbreaking. I had never even heard of her until now, but it looks like she was really loved. It’s so sad to hear that the industry’s lost someone else. My heart goes out to her family and those close to her, may she rest in peace.
And I kind of agree with michlee^. All of the funerals lately have seemed kind of just… there, but this one looked like it was very very emotional.
She should have thought about her kids. How could she leave them like that no matter how cruel other people were being to her.
People need to stand up for those being defamed. Yes, it is the individual’s problem and decision, but Korea is a collective society and it’s much harder to go against the grain. Come on people, speak out against defamation!
@ herro
I say we do a candle lit protest march in front of the Blue House!
I know not this young beautiful woman nor of her trials and tribulations in life.but from the words of those who knew her,she was an exceptionaly beautiful person both in vision and personality. It is said if you should take your own life you will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven. The Lord God is a forgiving Spirit,Choi Jin-Sil is in the hands of God.
Rest in Peace

RIP ChOI JIN SIL
Your talent and beauty will be missed. You were a great Korean icon and actress.
You will be greatly missed by all.
rip..
no more suicides please people =’[[[[
never heard of her but it’s sad…..
oh dear..why it happen again ??
really…it’s devastating…
RIP Choi Jin Sil.
My condolences for the family and friends.
Especially for the kids. Hope they will be strong and never follow their mother paths. Wishing the best for them…
OMG this is sooo sad…
I live in California, and although I’m not Korean myself I was aware of who Choi Jin Sil was because I saw her most recent drama (”My Life’s Last Romance”) a few months ago. So it’s shocking to hear that her life ended up this way. The Korean community in L.A. was saddened by her untimely demised. She’ll be greatly miss!
man i feel sorry especially for jung sunhee :[
rip 최진실 you will be greatly missed
butters, are you ethnic Korean?…just asking, because you hit the nail right on the head…you have summarized the history and culture of Korea in a few words.
Suicide is the traditional way of saving face, in East Asia especially, so let’s not judge her, whether she was temporarily insane, depressed, selfish or whatever during her moment of decision, only she knows. We can only mourn for her and feel for the children she left behind.
May she be consoled and forgiven by the loving Lord of all.
I heard that Lee Jung Ja was heart wrenched by her death. She fainted and tried killing herself too or something because she was extremely close with Choi Jin Shil. May she RIP.
@ megane
Yes, I was born in Korea and lived there for 8 years (traveling back and forth).
My relatives are telling me that many people in Korea are actually in tears. I am still in shock and in disbelief.
that’s so horrible….
her death even made comcast news.
so butters, are you korean?
are you sure youre facts are straight enough
to be so sure of yourself?
popseoul u are a real piece of work you know that? Here YOU are, talking about how you hope these tragic events wont ever happen again but in a few minutes write another one of your “biased” and may i say not funny posts about celebs that create wrong informations for ppl who dont have reliable sources. You people make me sick, when you die, maybe then you can do some good for the korean k pop community
this is all depressing….
i tried to count how many celebs have died this year and i counted ‘7′(idk if im missing someone)…that is alot…just within the last 7 months (apr-oct) there has been 6deaths(the other death was on January)… the entertainment in Korea have to come up with something…fast…
T_T!!
RIP.
i wonder if those dumass cyber slanderer freaks ever feel guilty. probably not, which is the saddest part.
Michael Terrell:
i hope my friend you are right and that the Good Lord does forgive her. just because i feel the way i do doesn’t i don’t feel sorrow. i fel sorrow for her and her children.
@ rachell
I feel like I’m being interrogated. Yes, I’m Korean. I experienced the 88 Olympics, 2002 World Cup, and even the capital punishment in Korean education. What facts that I stated do you want me to clarify? The history or the culture?
^^^ *CORPORAL PUNISHMENT*, not capital.
Awww… T.T
Such Shocking and Sad News !
I was heartbroken after i heard this news !
Rest in Peace !
Will be missed by MANY people.
R.I.P
my god i feel so bad for jung sun hee…she needs to get help so that she doesn’t (god forbid) think about suicide. RIP Choi Jin Shil, its so hard to beilieve you are actually gone…
I love you choi jin sil…..I can’t believe you are gone! I refuse to believe that this was deliberate..I honestly think that this was under the influence of alcohol and the fact that she was depressed got alot to do with it. So those who go on and saying that she shouldn’t of done it..it probably was a spur of the moment thing….dayum..You have brough so much joy to me through movies like the letter and the star in my heart…I even loved that jealousy show…I loved every show you did…I was sooo proud of you getting through that horrid divorce through the eyes of the public…and coming back strong. You are going to be greatly missed…and may you finally rest in peace and hopefully you can be an angel over to your beautiful children!
wow.. im sorry to hear that.. R.I.P
wow the lady that juss lost her husband couple weeks ago now her best friend. rest in peace
The way Jung Sun-hee is crying makes me want to cry.
Rest in peace Choi Jin-shil T-T
…speechless…, RIP Choi Jin Shil…
I feel sorry for Jung Sun Hee, she gotta to stay strong!!!
@ Butter
Good to see someone with a rational overview of Korea, it’s history amd people. Your points are accurate, informative and yet still retain some sentiment of nationalism. Well done. (Not trying to sound patronizing)
this a lesson for those people who judge her and the press who made the false rumors, this would not happen if only they did not made those rumors, i hope this should not happen again. people should not be judge mental coz look wat they cause a life of person and a mother of two children,i feel so sad about those children whose left behind, its too late for them to realize it.
RIP very sad, I really loved her in Last Scandal I thought she was so beautiful! Her poor babies
But what was she being accused of and who is Jung Sun-hee? Can someone tell me??
the last time I saw this actress was in the drama Rosy life. She’s great there!!!!! But this time, i was shocked by this news. I am sad right now!!!! May she rest in peace!!!!!!!!!!!! May God will forgive you for what have you done with your life….
I really feel sad. My Deepest condolence to her families, friends and fans left behind. I almost crying right now looking those pictures of her friends grief. o_o
this is an awful tragedy and one that needs to be left alone for the family and friends of the deceased to mourn. why is it ok in this country to print pictures of those celebrities who are paying respects to a friend? who really cares who shows up at these funerals? when did funerals become a red carpet affair? i think this is a huge problem in korea, where is the privacy and respect for the family? why are funerals of celebrities glorified in this country? these are not public affairs no matter how public the figure is. These funerals should no be broadcast on tv or should there be photographers documenting the every move of the funeral procession. It’s terribly difficult for the family and friends of their loved ones to deal with, there’s no need to have a minute by minute report of what is happening. Respect those who have passed away and respect those who area mouning the loss of a loved on.
with the number of celebrities that went to her wake, you’ll know she was a good person and she was loved…
i just hope that the media and netizens will learn from this and see what their pressuring and spreading of wrong rumors can do…
may she rest in peace…
@ butters,
i think there’s the way history happened for a nation/culture of people, and the way people recount their own history and stories to themselves about themselves, that gets into a cycle. the chinese also tell themselves repeated variations of the “sick men of asia” story, and everyone belonging to the society through education, community, workforce etc. all share an identity as individuals and group of being victims. persevering strength throughout victimhood isn’t uncommon to asian countries who have experienced modernization after the wars (WWII affected nearly all of asia of course - the japanese saw themselves as victims betrayed/deceived by government & military, nuclear bombs; taiwanese saw themselves as victims of chinese communists’ aggression/abandonment, japan, tho this is a great simplification of the complex feelings and relationships.)
anyway what i am saying is that sometimes how a society holds itself together (groupthink, mob mentality) prevents progress in area that need improvement (like treatment and lowering stigma for mental illness), precisely because it’s easier to hold onto the old definitions that make us “unique and different”. but is it so? once again it goes back to “the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves.” your example of belonging to the crowd via the things you buy/own is obviously common to all consumerist cultures - but it makes sense to koreans, japanese, chinese, or americans because everybody has needs to define social groups versus indiduals.
So many deaths. I am crying too. I wonder if the people who hurt her feel guilty now. Did it take her death to finally stop them? I’m so sorry, Jung Sunhee. Oh mygod… I can’t even imagine being in her place.
Rest in peace, Choi Jin Shil, you will be greatly missed.
this is really sad! all these actors and actresses randomely committing suicide all of a sudden! not the big question is: WHAT IS HAPPENING? >.< may she rest in peace!
my heart goes out to her two kids and especially jung sun hee. but i came across this article on cnn
http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/10/03/skorea.actress.ap/index.html#cnnSTCText?iref=werecommend
I think it’s amusing to see all these people here in Popseoul acting all fake and as if they are compltely pure. What’s more amusing is I see usernames of the worse bashers of certain celebrities here in Popseoul, now you act all disgusted about the korean antis for driving Choi Jin Shil to commit suicide.
I dont think it makes all you people any different from korean antis. Dont you guys sit here and bash the celebrities that you dont like? Haven’t you people cheered Popseoul on while she is bashing a celebrity in her posts?
Haven’t most of you accused the celebrities that you dont like of hurtful things that is not even true?
Now what makes you different from those antis? You are all of the same disgusting species, who dont care who you hurt.
So please dont act all fake and sad. If you are all really sad about this then maybe next time you’d think twice before bashing a celebrity.
Ive been reading the comments about all the rumors and speculation that drives korean celebs to suicide. I dont agree that bad comments about on the internet should be monitored. Korea isnt china. People in Korea have the right to say what ever negative or positive comment they want. Actresses and actors should not feel ashamed to go to a shrink if they are feeling stressed. Talking about their situation to others can help them be relieved of the pressure. It seems that they must be suffering in silence. They dont need to.
verna 1, hypocrites 0. Well said.
i’m so sad…
i grew up watching her on tv… i always thought she would be around… it’s such a tragedy that she’s gone so soon. RIP…
you know, i really wouldn’t mind if the korean government decided to shut down internet portal sites or the option to leave a comment on EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF NEWS. i mean i dont have to let the whole world know what i think… im ok with keeping it to myself and my friends…
of course, they wouldn’t ’cause koreans just love letting everyone know their opinions… but they should at least do something about this cruelty and viciousness that targets individuals…
why can’t we all just try to get along? it’s hard… but couldn’t we all try?
what a sad situation…
so sad …. :/ i feel bad for all of them and really Sun-hee
oh god, sunhee ;_;
