This week, 3 possible album pictures as well as the full version of Boa’s song, “Eat You Up”, were uploaded to her myspace account.
Foregoing the questionable lyrics, other than the beat, there was nothing spectacular about her song. She still retains a strong accent thus losing the clarity and strength most American artists have and the techno whine, which was probably used to mask any pronunciation errors, only served to emphasize them.
Overall, unless Boa’s other tracks are much more clearly enunciated and have a lot more vocal strength, another Se7en seems to be in the making. The chances of her making it in the American industry relying only on her performance skills and her Asian fanbase, seems slim. To compete in a market where the Koreans have to use choreographers that were utilized by other top American singers, only signifies lack of confidence and originality.
Check out the song.

i love her song. although the videos are not the best she has made. I think they should bring it more.
@ Izumi:
TL; DR
Also
LOL!
Don’t try to convince me, BoA sucks. Rihanna > BoA
Is it just me or does the track sound similar to Britney’s tracks from Blackout? I think BoA’s gonna have to get better producers if she wants to do well. Strong fanbase is not enough to survive in the American Music Industry. Besides.. she can do better, this shows no vocal skill and it lacks originality.
Stop freaking out! You guys are being too hard on Boa…I know the feeling, you just want her to perform well.
The Song Is Awesome!!!
Boa is Cute, great dancer, her English is Fine!!!
I will be there to support BoA
May Doni > BoA
t_t BoA needs to work on her vocals.. or quit. Whichever comes first. Best of Asia, my foot.
The only thing is unique about her is that she’s Asian..
And that’s not much of an advantage.
@ Berri:
TL; DR?
Also, considering by what you said in your previous post, I think it’s obvious who’s the one judging things with less bias.
You apparently look down on BoA while liking Rihanna.
So, obviously, I, respecting and liking both singers, probably am speaking something more closer to the truth. And I’m not trying to convince you either.
OMG!!!! That is freaking hilarious!! Damn, who wrote those lyrics! I can’t even listen to it with a straight face. I hope this isn’t her debut single. The teasers were alright, but hearing the song with out the video…she has no chance.
This may be too simplistic in thought but..
Why not bring the kpop style to America? After all, I’m an American that enjoys k-pop..why should kpoppers have to ‘Americanize’ their music style in order to debut here? Obviously, it won’t appeal to everyone, but then again, it’s not for everyone, is it? Just accept the fact that not everyone is going to like her. But! You never know, the kpop style could appeal to Americans who haven’t been exposed to it yet..
..also, I wouldn’t mind hearing some English versions of her past hits..am I alone in thinking all this? lol
She’s a really good singer, but I find this song so BLAH. But then again, if her live performance is good, then it will definitely catch a lot of attention.
We’re not even sure that they’re going to promote her properly, or at all.
at least..she SINGS the words clearer than RAIN (:
Someone actually had the audacity to say that Rihanna can sing better than BoA. Are you kidding me?!!! Rihanna can’t sing to save her life!!!! The girl is basically a walking advertisment of how little talent you can have and still make it in America. Rihanna is like the black version of Koda Kumi. Simply cute but can’t sing. Gosh, if anything BoA needs to get her behind to America quick and save the population. The talentless are abundant over here!!
first thing to notice is that this debut suffers exactly the same problem with se7en’s debut.. GOT DELAYED .. the reason? they know better. really not a good sign.
BOA’s live concert wasnt that impresive also, media never exagerate it, she can’t really attract asian celebs to admire her, plus, although she’s been touted to be big in JAPAN, she hasn’t yet managed to have a concert at TOKYO DOOM, if that counts.
if she can’t really appeal Asia’s big music people attention, i’m not sure how she’s going to make it in the US
“BOA’s live concert wasnt that impresive” That’s because she yells instead of sings
@Afromantic: are you serious?
BoA is not even good singer.
GUMMY, BIG MAMA, LYN, etc. have excellent voices.
BoA is just a flimsy idol.
Ok, listen!! Nothing is wrong with her singing! Sure, so she has an accent, but so do many other artists that are famous. Besides, I can understand her better then T-Pain and Flo Rida. And what is up with you people saying that she should go back to her country?!?! F**k it! She has the right to come over here, and people DO like her singing. So Shut up if you’re just going to talk trash about her.
The song is a different type for her. As in, it’s more…sexual related. But I read that someone posted (not sure who, sorry) that it was about her doing oral sex. No, that is not her. She would neeeeeeeever do that. It’s AMERICAN music that relates things to that, like rappers, and half of the new “Top Chart” songs. Like ‘Love in this Club’. Serious? Someone is going to make a song about having sex in a club? And because so many people listen to music like that they then start to relate the other lyrics in songs to other sexual things. NOT ALL songs, but over half of the song that I hear on the radio that are ‘popular’. So, next time you hear a song, I want you to look up the lyrics and then see how much sexual related things are in there. It’s not as much as this song,I can sure as hell promise you that.
Eat You Up is an interesting name, and it does have to do with love. Not making it, but talking about it. She came to America, and she had to of been influenced by America, because she wanted to make a song that would make it in this country. Personally I like it.
Also, it’s a change for several people. Because I can see that you guys keep posting other ‘main’ singers. They are the other pop and such singers. But this is her style of pop – diffrent music for different people. Now unless you want me to start dissin’ Usher, T-Pain, Big Mama, Lil Mama, Flo Rida, and all those people then I will say it again: SHUT THE f**CKING HELL UP!!!!!!!!!
accent? please her celine dion sing live.. her accent is also very strong but htat does nto dismiss the fact that she can sing superbly well..
BoA can’t sing: are you sure?
please listen to her winter love, merikuri, tree, good bye, waiting, moon and sunrise, stay in love just to name a few….
clearly people who said that do not listen much to her music at al.. those songs are sang beautifully, emotionally and skillfully… well everyone has their own preferances…
Eat you up:
Sure this song is not the best that she can come up with bt i think it’s a pretty good start because it blends well into the mainstream music in america
I have heard BoA’s new album and i admit that though it is not a superbly fantastic album, but it think its a pretty good start…
i always believe that a newbie should not start with a unique style first, especially for asian singers because honestly, majority of americans aren’t too fond of asian styles of singing YET… look at utada hikaru, someone with a clear english accent and can sing very well too are not reponded well in America with her new englisdh album… i think it’s because she insists on writing her own songs, singing in her own styles (ballads, pop ballads?), which are not very attractive to american audience when they know hear the album…
so ,maybe BoA’s company is trying a different strategy? honestly, i believe with BoA’s looks, dance moves and singing ability, she can succeed in USA in the long run while she is gaining more popularity with her mainstream music in America… even if she does not succeed, people ought to give her the credit she derserves… no many people in the world can achieve such success at the age of only 23!!:)
still to each his own:)
