Get ready for Chinese Wondergirls

At CJ Entertainment’s Nights and Passion at PIFF on October 4th, Park Jin-young announced that a Chinese version of the Wondergirls is under the works. The “Brain” revealed that the girls will undergo training a la Korean style before taking over the the Asian music market in China and South East Asia. After that, Wondergirls China will enter the U.S. market via the U.S. arm of JYP Entertainment.

What is with the obsession of entering the U.S.? We know that JYP’s own failure to enter the U.S. music market many moons ago could have something to do with it. Like parents who pin their hopes that the children will fulfill their own selfish dreams, JYP is doing the the same thing. What is the big deal with entering the U.S.? Wouldn’t taking over the Chinese music market be better in terms of sheer volume and market size? And why another Wondergirls group?

the first 3 comments are total stupidity. idiotic vagrancy even.

Don’t want to be a harsh critic.. but jyp should have these girls practice their english before they want to debut in america. I don’t understand why korean artists are so obsessed about debuting in america either; oh wait I know it’s all about the money. It’s all money talk. Jyp my suggestion is that.. have the wondergirls sing in English if you want them to be noticed in america, and teach them conversational english. There’s a majority of korean pop. in cali., but that alone won’t get your support. omo.. look at Jackie Chan, he’s not the greatest English speaker in world, but he speaks good enough for people to understand him.

true, don’t really know why they want to make it so big in the U.S.? oh well, if they do, like se7en and boa, good luck!

Srsly, what’s the big deal about entering the U.S. market? The music scene over here [for pop & international artists] is so flake-y. [not to sound cynical or anything, but...] I mean, if the Wonder Girls are “successful”in America, they might have the nation’s interest for a few weeks at the most, and after that the U.S. will have found someone else to adore. that’s just how it seems to me, though.

The article is wrong, popseoul, you did it again
the new girl group is not targeted in US market
    that is WG

its all about money,i must say
you guys are complaining why they dont stay in Korea, you know that you will make a lot of money than you ever make in Korea or China

WG is not doing any good of the album sales, but they made a huge amount of money for JYP(CFs,digital sales, etc),JYP even spent less expenses on them than Rain
i like WG,but i dont think its good idea to put them into US market, they are not ready yet, maybe a few more years

Nearly got blinded by their gaudy outfits.

I see JYP has on another pair of weird-a** pants.

You mean the garbage bags that he tied together?

  9. 9 OMG October 6, 2008 at 3:03 pm

    what?!
    WHY
    there’s only one wondergirls group

he shouldn’t turn this into what SM did with super junior
    seriously…this is bound to fail

  10. 10 ARE YOU STUPID October 6, 2008 at 3:16 pm

    ARE YOU STUPID?

getting into the US market would be the ultimate goal for anyone in the music industry. Getting through to the US market doesn’t just mean US sales (which is by far the biggest consumer market in the world, exceeding China by immeasurable volume) but it means worldwide sales as well. Music that is popular in the US is bound to be popular all over the globe with the sheer amount of attention the entertainment industry gets there. China is a big market in terms of the amount of people, but that doesnt necessarily translate into sales volumes, or profits either. You don’t see Jay Chou making more money than stars (including international ones) that made it to the US market.

    I hope they can enter U.S ^^
    Hwaiting!

I like wondergirls, but creating another one is unneccesary I think.

  13. 13 dyra! October 6, 2008 at 3:33 pm

why another group of wonder girls??
n why have 2 do the chinese version???
    why n why n why n why????
the korean one(wg) is already good
if JYP wnts 2 do another group, just put another name…
the newcomers 2 korean entertainment will probably will confuse which one is the korean version n the chinese one

  14. 14 anonymous October 6, 2008 at 3:54 pm

    Whatever.

JYP is a sick producer. There’s a reason why Lil’ Jon and R. Kelly were interested in the first place. Plus JYP is persistent. I’m sure he’s got a plan and will make it work.

  15. 15 oh won bin October 6, 2008 at 4:19 pm

please, the world doesnt need at all another copycat girl group…

  16. 16 Jenni Kim October 6, 2008 at 4:40 pm

Let’s just hope that the Chinese Wondergirls has more vocal talent than the current Wondergirls @_@

  17. 17 whateverHATERS October 6, 2008 at 4:41 pm

theres a bunch of people out there called HATERS that go around and leave a bunch of mean messages so on behalf of all the nice non-bias bloggers i would like to give a message to all you haters(GO AHEAD POPSEOUL DELETE MY COMMENT I KNOW YOU HATE WONDERGIRLS):

saying stuff that jyp is a child molester and ALWAYS implying that they have no talent? do you have proof and pics proving your facts? you can’t stand wondergirls~ you think that they are plastic when you post their one bad pic of them pics and lie about them~~~와우…
xD im just kidding hate comments don’t even bother me anymore..in fact sometimes it’s pretty funny:3 you’re all like they suck or there so over rated and fake im sorry but if you dislike them so much why not just ignore them-every group has there own pair of antis but leaving retarded messages like those are so disrespectful and shameful so bottom line: If you’re a hater i only know you leave those kind of comments because you have no life or maybe you are all having a hard time right now but beleive me if you stop hating and start loving you’ll go farther in life~ again to all you haters out there I LOVE YOU(GO F*CK YOURSELF)
wondergirls will always have their fans~*PWNED*xD

  18. 18 Jeiwon October 6, 2008 at 5:30 pm

I don’t agree with that!!! WG just one.. I don’t want WG have the same thing like SuJu, because of their form su-groups, so the original SuJu is ‘missing’…. Hikz hikz hikz
Hopefully JYP will think more realistic about his decision>>…

  19. 19 o.O October 6, 2008 at 5:35 pm

he should slow down a bit i reckon..
    2 am
    2 pm
    Wonder Girls
    that are hitting the market
and prob has more dudes under training etc
why doesnt he just take the girls over to korea rather than creating a new grp… :P
but lets see how things turn out :D

  20. 20 Megan October 6, 2008 at 5:51 pm

    Wow, let’s face it.

It is hard enough for foreigners to break into the American market in the first place.

Only the best of the best foreigners make it into America. And trust me, WG unquestionably does not have the talent to do so.

  21. 21 Sarah October 6, 2008 at 6:15 pm

    so unoriginal
doesnt he know that hits will only be hits. the REAL respected A-list super celebrities (those who lasts) are those who are unique with actual talents. For example, Johnny Depp, Nicole Kidman, Jae Chou, Celine Dion…

  22. 22 .nodame. October 6, 2008 at 6:19 pm

It seems like this is nothing but greed on JYP’s part… like he just can’t get enough money or something -.-

  23. 23 wondergirlsfan October 6, 2008 at 7:31 pm

    you guys are stupid
its not WG-China.they are a totally different group

  24. 24 m.b October 6, 2008 at 8:39 pm

    ok… that’s just a bit weird… but yerh watever…

  25. 25 kirara43 October 6, 2008 at 10:35 pm

wow.. korean style training for Chinese girls? Hope they can handle that.. total culture difference? I mean wasn’t it a bit hard for Super Junior-M?

Plus in the picture, that guy on the far left looks a bit scary.

  26. 26 Jill October 6, 2008 at 10:37 pm

i wont be seen dead in those stockings!!..and i hope they have vocal talents too.

  27. 27 crappycaller October 6, 2008 at 11:11 pm

Wondergirls versus Wondergirls??? not a good idea..instead of Korean Wondergirls getting China fans..they will have a limited market now .. tsk tsk

  28. 28 nikeg October 7, 2008 at 5:00 am

    2 am
    2 pm
    wonder girls
    wonder … gals? LOL

ya he should name the new chinese group that BAHAHA.

  29. 29 anon October 7, 2008 at 4:13 pm

Rite now the only popular girl groups in the Chinese and SEAsian market are S.H.E. and TWINS. Other girl groups, like Sweety, ING, Glitter Sisters, have appeared (and subsequently died out). Currently no other girl band can surpass the popularity and sales of these two bands (though TWINS are slowly going solo).

The reasons why these two girl groups have their popularity are their unique personalities and fun, candid way of conducting themselves, endearing them to fans from Asia, and more importantly, from their compatriots back in their respective countries.

To be a successful girlband in the Chinese-speaking market, personality and ability to identify with the masses is the key to longevity, not another detached manufactured band.

  30. 30 YUNJAE Love October 8, 2008 at 5:21 am

Hmm i guess JYP has his reasons for wanting to break the US market.
Although US currency is falling now,but their market is still big.
and he would be earning more if he pushes chinese WG to both the chinese and english market.

But wow thats kinda surprising that he wants to create a chinese group and let them take on the US market when he can use the korean WG instead?
or is he planning to have both groups of WG take on the us market?
Anw,cant wait to see how’s the chinese WG gonna be like !
hope their music is as addictive as the korean WG !

  31. 31 Micky's wifey October 12, 2008 at 12:46 am

    NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    OMfG~
    WTH?! Chinese wondergirls?!
if Gorilla picked them from Taiwan..I’ll be happier..
    but China…? oh gosh~
I don’t want my Ye Eun to be duplicated…..

  32. 32 Snapple October 12, 2008 at 4:40 pm

oh thats just great….first chinese super junior now chinese wondergirls…? you have GOT to be kidding me…at least call the group something other than wondergirls CHINA…dhsuaidbhsjakdbw *pissed off* honestly, i think JYP’s just wasting his money- look what happened to the chinese suju

  33. 33 Lady October 15, 2008 at 11:19 pm

It’s not such a bad idea to market this way. At the end of the day, the question is who has more money… so in this sense JYP is smart because he’s exploring his field.

  34. 35 Emily October 28, 2008 at 8:55 pm

A Chinese WG will be totally weird. I will still prefer the original WG :)

  35. 36 gloria November 3, 2008 at 9:11 am

wow that’s so gay . it’s not like we need a chinese wondergirls x____x;; just a korean one is just fine with me D:<

  36. 37 Wonder Girls epically fail. December 1, 2008 at 3:03 am

The current Wonder Girls are epic fail, lol just imagine a Chinese Wonder Girls, moar epic fail.

Yes, I hate Wonder Girls cos they can’t sing in either Korean or English LOL. Heard of their cover for PCD Don’t Cha? Sohee can’t even speak english. Whoever said they were better than PCD needs hearing aids……as for the rest of the fans tbh…..cos their singing is awwful like a screeching cacking cat.

    1. Wonder Girls
    2. Will disabandon one day
    3. ???
    4. PROFIT!

  37. 38 =( December 7, 2008 at 8:54 am

ew… i hope JYP will actually get some talented people out instead of these 14 year old sluts that can’t sing and dance worth crap

  38. 39 deborah January 31, 2009 at 8:11 am

    wondergirls suck forever

  39. 40 K.G. January 31, 2009 at 8:28 am

Well if you didn’t know America is number 1 in the music scene. Also if you make it in America you make it anywhere, thats why there trying to get into our music scene. Have you noticed that nobody really knows who the wondergirls really are outside of the asian market maybe a few thousand others but not that many. Jackie chan now if he didn’t make it in America do you really think that you would go all the way to China just to meet him or watch his movies if he was unknown. Also the same with Bruce Lee if he didn’t make it i the U.S. then only those in Asia and people who are interested in chinese movies would know his name. So basically if you make in the U.S. then everyone knows your name!

  40. 41 justpassedby May 5, 2009 at 1:42 am

their entry to the US is much the same way as their exit..lolz..i doubt they would even be looked at by the american market..if they were outrageously talented then i might reconsider but then again, they’re just not..sorry WG and JYP..

  41. 42 annie May 30, 2009 at 11:36 am

They sing WAY better than wg, and dance REALLy well too. Sarah’s accent is impressive! Doesn’t seem to have a weird chinese accent.

  42. 43 Bobby August 3, 2009 at 11:08 am

THE “BIG DEAL” about entering the Western market is the reason why everybody wants to immigrate TO the Western world. THE US is the most powerful & most influential market/sociey in the world. If you capture them, it’s EASY to capture the world. Look at the stars of the US, they are known EVERYWHERE! Hollywood IS the biggest stage possible. Everybody knows you, you make the most money, you endorse the best things, etc. AMERICA IS MAKING IT BIG TIME! Nuff said….

  43. 44 darlene August 29, 2009 at 11:45 am

    COPY CAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  44. 45 pop November 11, 2009 at 9:31 pm

If only they can replace Sohee with Sarah. Sarah is younger, yet sings and dances beter than Sohee. Sohee is seriously pulling down the group -_-
