Is Son Dam-bi the next Jessica Alba?

200810070241

Here we go again.

Another singer, this time a B-lister, tries to make her way into Hollywood hearts – but this time as an actress.

Son Dambi, once called the “female Rain,” has taken the lead female role in the dance flick (think “Honey”-the 2003 movie), “Hype Nation,” produced by Universal studios.

The music director of the 25 million USD project will be none other than hip-hip producer, Teddy Riley. The U.S. producer cast Son Dambi after seeing her dance moves.

With filming starting in December 2008, Son Dambi will have to step up on her English speaking skills. The singer-turned actress will have 3 English tutors to help her around the clock. And she will divide her time inĀ  Seoul and Los Angeles.

Will Son Dambi make it as a sexy dancer a la “Honey Daniels” (played by Jessica Alba)?

“Hype Nation” follows the dance battles between U.S. and Korean groups, Gambler and B2K. Oscar winner, Whoopi Goldberg is also set to appear in the movie. “Hype Nation” is slated for release in 2009.

We can imagine Son Dambi doing a bit of Jessica Alba moves from the flick, “Honey”

  7. 7 Arie October 8, 2008 at 12:22 pm

She’s just shaking her ass on his face, that’s not dancing.
I hope Dambi (it does sound like bambi) does better than that.

    why is everyone trying
to get popular in the US?!
    is it that GREAT?!

“The music director of the 25 million USD project will be none other than hip-hip producer, Teddy Riley.”

$25 million sounds, and is, a large sum of movie, but keep in mind the average Hollywood has a budget of $90 million and that should put things in perspective.

This could be a surprise breakout hit, there’s always a couple each year, but looking at the premise I think they’re going for a “You Got Served” style film that will do brisk business with the MTV crowd, but do dismal outside of that demographic.

    Gook Luck to her. . . she’s gonna need it. . .

I meant to write money instead of movie, and put the word movie after Hollywood. That’s what I get for posting before taking my pills.

    “why is everyone trying
to get popular in the US?!
    is it that GREAT?!”

The U.S. is the single biggest entertainment industry in the world without rival. I don’t mind all of these Korean entertainers trying to break into the market. It’s just good business. But the way the Korean entertainment industry is going about it is all wrong, in my opinion.

Wouldn’t mind being proven wrong though.

Son Dambi is really talented and really pretty! so good luck to her but it all depends on her acting, dancing, and speaking skills. i don’t think she is like BOA and JYP who are really trying hard to make it in the US. She prob got lucky and got the offer and accepted, i mean, who would deny it?

  13. 13 rk October 8, 2008 at 2:04 pm

Also, we need more Asian actors in Hollywood anyway.

  14. 14 Dovey October 8, 2008 at 3:23 pm

An Asian one. XD She better improve her English.

  15. 15 kpop October 8, 2008 at 3:27 pm

boA shud star in dis movie. she can dance and it will help with her career in america.

  16. 16 deathbylogic October 8, 2008 at 4:07 pm

even if she’s not great or whatever, at least she’s making it to hollywood.

    what about you morons?

b*tches and b*stards sitting behind your computer screens playing with yourself, fondling to whichever k-pop artist which turns u on.

is she the sad one or are u assholes the sad one?

  17. 17 boldstripes October 8, 2008 at 9:40 pm

she’s in We Got Married now right?…and LOL i dont know she’s a B-lister…that is so saad bcos she is so pretty ^^

  18. 18 Malu October 9, 2008 at 1:35 am

she’s no where near as cute as jessica alba but why do they want to be famous in the US? They might not make it as big like they do in Korea.

  19. 19 sda October 9, 2008 at 1:37 am

Well both her and Jessica Alba can’t dance creatively anyway…so whatever…another gal that will be molded into American’s stereotypical image of Asian female. Well…but I guess I should cheer that more Asians are making it into market…but I wish it was for more Acadamy winning roles, not super pop. Americans will think that’s all Asia can offer…bubbly pop, dance groups and cute factor.

  20. 20 Ken October 9, 2008 at 2:21 am

She’s smokin, but a movie by Teddy Riley? Please….

He owes so much money it’s not even funny. Suspiciously enough, his recording studio burned down when it didn’t sell at auction and he lost two lots next to his home because of taxes.

I hope he doesn’t ruin her potential career.

  21. 21 usaFangrrl October 9, 2008 at 10:07 am

I hope the movie has better dance moves than the clip above. Even Jessica Alba had to have a couple of drinks before she would dance this. She was too embarrassed to do it. The producer basically got her drunk and then “Roll film”. (From the “making of” on the Honey DVD. Yes I bought it :-P )

Three English tutors… good luck to her.

  22. 22 Ratez October 9, 2008 at 4:41 pm

Love how you guys get worked up over the title. I hope you guys do realise that the comparison between her and Jessica Alba is made by the person who created the article. Bashing her over what the author wrote? Stupid.

  23. 23 riki October 9, 2008 at 9:54 pm

i like son dambi and she has great potential but she needs to get back her “female rain” roots. maybe get signed to j tunes?
this is a great idea though especially with the success of all the dance movies like step it up and America’s Best Dance crew. i wonder why rain didn’t think of something like this with his great dancing skills. good look dambi i will be there opening night

  24. 24 Latinaliscious October 9, 2008 at 10:54 pm

Please, any latina girl can dance a million times better than the poor performance of Jessica “Dont call me latina” Alba.

Here, it`s a colombian singer: Shakira for example, this is an old video.

I think Som Dam Bi is a great dancer.
But as an actress, with English…
    Not so sure.

  26. 26 freaking A October 10, 2008 at 6:33 am

Alvina: are you crazy? stephanie would have been no better, she has the same dance moves (all the time, every time) and her face is even uglier than dambi’s. you people are blind.

  27. 27 Ari PArk October 10, 2008 at 12:01 pm

what jessica alba! she do not look like anything like her. i am insulted by this article. who is this girl again? oh yeah the same not so talented korean singer dancer with tons of plastic surgery and who cant dress. ewww.. the way she is dressed she will get nowhere in the US. she can pay a stylist here in the US. whats up with all the korean Fobs coming over here in new york trying to learn english but dont because they are always hanging out on 32nd st withe same old fobs???? weirdos.

  28. 28 Squirt October 14, 2008 at 10:14 am

Neither of them can dance… x_x

Hope her english is good…but I think this movie will go straight to DVD. I guess we’ll see…

  29. 29 vivian October 15, 2008 at 6:12 am

why must they compare asian celebrities with american? what good about american? they dont care about fans, think themselves the best, is it good to be like them?

  30. 30 KimIhere October 16, 2008 at 9:53 am

OMG! Dam Bi is really gonna be in this movie.
I mean she kinda just started her career and already in international movies.
WOW! I got to see how she is in this one!

  31. 31 Squirt October 22, 2008 at 11:58 am

    Whoopi is in this?? wow

  32. 32 Emily October 28, 2008 at 8:33 pm

HEY! Son Dam Bi is way prettier than any of the Korean celebs out there, so i think she can make it in Hollywood, if they stop the practice of “dissing” Asian stars there

  33. 33 leeyana November 5, 2008 at 2:03 pm

who knew…she wud even try to get into hollywood…

  34. 34 Jei November 7, 2008 at 11:03 am

Go Dambi! Stop ragging on her and the movie. You haven’t even seen it yet! Why are you guys such haters?! Can’t we just wish the best for her. Jeez, stanky haters…

  35. 35 danseuse2010 November 24, 2008 at 7:29 am

I didn’t know Son Dambi was trained since youth. considering that, she’s a bad dancer who has no “Qi”.

As for her impending movie, good for her and hopefully her career, too. but, oh goodness, her face is below Alba’s league! she is a Monet-Butter face (beautiful far away, scary up-close, and her body is her primary asset).

heaven forbid if Dambi’s pre-surgery photos surface because the difference is night and day; drastic changes in her face.

Why couldn’t they just hire Ivy? She dances at the same level as Dambi, but is MUCH hotter.
