Ok. This has become absolutely ridiculous!! One suicide is way too many. But more? The number of suicides since Choi Jin-shil’s untimely departure has tragically risen.
At the tender age of 23, Kim Ji-hoo committed suicide as a result of rabid netizens who harassed the model for being gay. The model was part of the tvN program, “Coming out” and that didn’t sit well with some people.
Kim Ji-hoo was found dead on October 7th in the same manner as Choi Jin-shil. Police confirm that the death as suicide.
Please no more!
The Korean government needs establish a better social system so that the troubled can easily reach out and seize the help they desperately need. Although the government is reviewing a law to protect people from the spread of vicious rumors and slanderous comments on the internet, that may not be enough. Social pressures are what drives people to do things that they feel is the only way out. Feeling cornered with no alternatives results in desperate measures. What Korea really needs is an overhaul in the way our people think. And that will take time….if not generations.
It’s extremely sad and depressing to think that ending your life is the only answer. It’s not. It shouldn’t be. Life is too precious- we are here only for a short time and we must try to enjoy every minute we have.
This needs to stop.
Rest in peace.
According to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, South Korea has the highest suicide rate of any of its 30 members - which are almost all developed countries.
R.I.P.
This has become far too depressing.
This is just too much!
another suicide tsk
omg 23 yo!!!
my prayer’s with him. this needs to stop. RIP Kim Ji Hoo. T_T
R.I.P
Please…no more, it’s getting too sad and hard…
something has to be done…
This is ridiculous… other than being gay… what other faults did he have? Too good looking?
You’ll have to admit that most Korean netizens are rabid… they harass poor individuals and push them to their limits… RIP…
I hope the government does something to curb this…
its not the govt’s fault! its the way these people are brought up. how to teach them to reach out when they don’t want to? its like if someone doesn’t wanna open up and talk, you cant pry open their mouths by force!
oh god, no!
what in the world is happening?!
this is really… out of hand. something should be done.
Jesus Christ! did these celebs get pulled aside and given some sort of suicide inducing shot/medicine? ahh, this is just soooo weird
OMG!!!! HOW MANY SUICIDE?????? I AM SO SAD, HE’S ONLY 23!!!!WHAT’S THE PROBLEM WITH BEING GAY?????
R.I.P KIM JI-HOO T___T
NO MORE SOCIDE PLEASE.
wow
this is way too sad
RIP kim ji hoo
and i hope this ends here.
this is very pathetic and so sick!!!why???they are so stupid??what are they thinking about?i thought the most worst celebrities in this world korean artis is the worst of lack of spirits!!!!their mind is too negative and too weak how can they being a celebrities if they are too weak to handle their personal problem..so sick of them.i thought korean governmnet or social deparment must do something about this.give them a ceminar adn discuss about this not to make a short decision.the worst in the world is the korean artist Lack of self confident and low of self esteem. Please don’t make yours country shame on you.
i’ve been saying over and over again, these celebs need to put harsh rumors and comments aside! just ignore it! gosh!
These are only celebrity suicides. Think about the ones that go unlisted everyday in South Korea. If you go to S. Korea and ask, everyone knows someone whose ended their life by suicide. It’s horribly common, sad to say.
There really needs to be an outlet. It’s always been within the culture(worldly as well), opening your mouth without considering how someone else thinks. Only wanting to express your dislike for something of superficial nature, never minding that in fact your words have power to inflict hurt.
We as humans, a lot of times say that we don’t care what others think of yourself as long as your satisfied with how you are. This is not necessarily true, everyone wants others to care, to be noticed, acknowledged for your good or bad doings. Acknowledgment doesn’t have to mean that you should become a celebrity, but your existence known and felt is a natural desire.
To be in that corner, full of rebukes and disdain thrown constantly in your face. People only caring about what they have to say, when these people you hurt disappear will you be satisfied on your part? Call them weak, pathetic and undeserving?
The Aesthetics, superficiality and greed of this world is killing us. Just to have it we do anything. Try to keep up, stay in and follow, be doted and admired. None of these are real, nor do they last.
is it trendy to commit suiside in Korea right now ? what the hell is going on there ? Why are these celebrities keep commits ?
so sorry for them
gosh! this not a good sign… suicide has become a trend of some sort… things can be hard to handle but ending your own life is not the only way to solve a problem. this is really crazy.
maybe it would be a conscious effort on ourself too to be more understanding of other people’s feeling and what they are going through.
the government should actually do something about this because the younger generation is so impressionable and maybe they should start a campaign ad or something explaining that committing suicide is the only way to go if we are experiencing peer pressure or pressure per se…
aww this is too over..korean celebs tend to take netizen comments too seriously, they should be counseled.
R.I.P
NOT AGAIN. D:
Seriously, this is like the 3048324985394th time a Korean celeb has committed suicide this year. DDDD:
OMG!! WTF is this? Almost everyday I see suicide! So what if he is gay? Lots of dudes are…and its sad bcuz he is so young and good looking
RIP
OMG~ how can this be happening.. i can’t believe this.. they’re commiting suicide just because the stupid harass!?
The korean citizen should stop anti-ing artists.. Luckily Uknow was save after he had that crazy glue, if not i’ll be still crying till then.. Everyone should be more positive, ignore what those stupid ppl said and just live your life your own way.. Oppa, RIP.
I heard that the korean government had made a rule bout harassing lately, they called it the Choi jin-sil rule as that was the first case to happen. Those ppl who spread the rumour bout choi jin-sil lending money to ahn jae hwan all over the internet are arrested. Those harassing ppl will get their punishment.
Not again, maybe there is something that must change hmmm…???
THIS IS GETTING CRAZY!!
when we come to a point where we say “NOT AGAIN” before any R.I.P, then we know something is wrong…WTF IS GOING ON??? at this point i have no feelings left in me, it will become like seeing people die in movies, no effect at all…the government needs to step it UP!! cuz this is getting too ridiculous…
May your troubled soul rest in peace.. NO MORE PLEASE
jeeeeeeezzzzzzzz
oh my god this is so sad!!!!!
i think the society or the public is too harsh about celebrities….
we forget that celebrities are also humans they can feel the harsh words coming from us….
we are just so superficial about these celebrities….
we need to stop bashing these poor celebrities who did only one thing to “ENTERTAIN US!!!!!”
may all those people who have committed suicide may rest in peace!!!!
this is so sad~
but i must say that it’s kind of stupid.
suicide for ‘that’?
come on people!!!
god gave us new tomorrows to live so it’s like starting new beginnings everyday!!!
and =_= *goodness!* suicide?
you just wasted your life!!!
no offense to anyone,
but suicide is being selfish~
sure there’s the depression,
but come on! there’s bound to be at least one person to LOVE you!!! or else something to make you happy!!!
there’s what you call ‘chances’, man!
o_O
the number of people - celebrities- in korea committing suicide surely is getting ridiculous!!!
*nods*
nonetheless, R.I.P.
ADDITIONAL~
besides, haven’t they thought that getting negative comments from the people is part of being a celebrity? it’s not all hailing and praising! geez~
they should know that there’s no business like show business. =_=
getting criticisms shouldn’t weaken them, they should learn to think about it, find a way, and be stronger the next time to face it.
i wonder if the police have REALLY looked into these deaths and aren’t just writing them off as suicides. seriously, with the amount of crazies running around, there could be a serial killer running around S. Korea.
T_T stop killing yourselfs!
RIP Kim JiHoo. =(
another one?!
omg…
rip…
R.I.P
I really don’t think that all the Models , actors , singer or watever is suicide…
This just too many time is jus a week~
i think sumone actually murder them~
jus my guesss and feeling~
this is really really too much~
anyway
R.I.P
to all of them~
RIP
Your essay on Korean social trends was moving, if not accurate, but Im over here laughing my ass off at the internet-gossip-pot calling the kettle black. The irony of an oft rude celeb blogger telling netizens to be nice is beyond absurd. Still, I agree, and am devastated by this news.
*face palm*
rip…
he was my age…still young and had so much to live for
he must have endured a lot of hateful remarks to end his life just like that…too sad
This is why South Korea has one of the highest suicidal rates in the world.
I don’t live in Korea but if they don’t have one - THEY SHOULD HAVE ONE NOW! A free depression/mental illness/anxiety/suicide telephone hotline should be created. Just being able to call anonymously & to talk to a trained person or counsellor can make all the difference.
R.I.P I hope all those antis know the magnitude of their words
Well, Japan also got a pretty high suicide rate…there’s something with asian countries
Peer pressure is hard everywhere though…well, korea might be super cool for holidays but living there seems not so awesome
RIP to all of those who commited suicide (and not only celebrities)
Man, theyre becoming just like Japan…except its usually everyday people who commit suicide there and not celebrities. (Then again, Korea has some really passionate/crazy fans here who like harass celebrities.) Maybe the Japanese trend will catch on and peeps in Korea will use poisonous gases from toxic household cleaning supplies.
This is ridiculous man! Someone stop the madness!…its bad for young impressionable fans/people to see this happening too and lead them to give up on their own lives during hard times.
@ fligs I agree that suicide is a selfish act but I think u should try and understand how the deceased felt. The immense pressure, the anxiety, the harsh words & the feeling of being trapped and the sense that u have nowhere to go is debilitating.
again, why blame the netizens and tell them to be nicer to the celebs and that they are supposed to be cautious with what they say and think many times so as not to hurt the feelings of these celebrities. what need to be changed in Korean society is their mentality. do not blame the government…even if they impose laws…there are too many harsh Korean netizens out there in their country…if everyone will be put in jail, chances are, they would run out of prison cells. HARSH NETIZENS are everywhere in the world. but these celebrities should simply ignore them. they cannot please everybody, so they should not expect to be hearing PRAISES all the time. these celebrities are sometimes greedy…THEY WANT MONEY, FAME and THEY ALSO WANT ALL PRAISES and PEACE OF MIND…COME ON! being rich and famous has its consequence, thus bear its consequence.
in Korea being gay is a big deal. there are men who would kill themselves rather than telling the family that they are indeed gay. thus, when the netizens harrassed this model for his admission, he committed suicide.
again, i am already numbed about all this news on suicide…
i wonder who will be next on the list? i maybe harsh on asking about that…but i am just being realistic and expecting the worst.
RIP…and may all these suicide-r really find peace…hope they won’t feel depressed wherever they may be.
RIP.. i wish this would stop..
RIP.- oh thats so sad… I mean all the guts it took him for the show comming out… and then this happens.>.<…
Netizens may be a factor, but it’s not the sole or, even, main reason for causing the suicides of Korean celebrities. South Korea is a very competitive society that creates enormous pressures and stresses for most people and that has more to do with causing depression and suicidal tendency.
cattleya “simply ignore them”
would you be able to? would you be able to brush aside atrocious comments made about you? would u be capable of NOT FEELING any negativity or sadness when people make these comments about u?
As soon as I saw this, my reaction was “Wtf???” This is just too much. Too much
Kim Ji-hoo, may you R.I.P.
is korean people so discriminative to make
young people kill themselves?
yes i will SIMPLY IGNORE THEM. the Korean celebrities know how harsh Korean netizens are, so why are they still visiting the internet instead of spending their free time resting or being with their family or travelling. if you even go to sites to know news about you, then you are the ones adding stress to yourself.
if these celebrities will not ignore the netizens, they are just sending the message to the netizens how much power they have. so if they want to erase a celebrity on the face of the earth, these netizens will bombard this celebrity harrassing comments and words till he/she takes his/her life.
in this HIGH TECH world, we must learn one theory of evolution called the SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST. in the past organisms compete for food to survive…nowadays we need to have mental strength to survive. obviously, the sensitive people who cannot take negative comments and are mentally weak and lack fighting spirit will end their lives.
wheww yeah..Not Again!…why???this is ridiculous…feel bad.
Pah! it is in fact ridiculous. suicide is like…i don’t know how to put this but it’s like…damn. im dumbfounded by such incident. it’s like a social trend of some sort. these people need some mental and emotional security. =S
3 in a week?
may they rest in peace…
it’s too bad.
OMG, is there some kinda suicide festival goin on in korea? This needs to stop..
RIP Kim Ji hoo..T_T
OMG!!! i could NOT believe when i read the topic of this post, i thought this was a joke!!! why why why??
it’s sooo sad :’(
i really hate this :@
RIP KJH
I can’t get it,it’s a little bit hard to take it that they can
runaway from the facts of life just as like that”Committed suicide”.I don’t really know them personally, but I’m sure they love to live still, but maybe that was the only alternative to solve their problems..
Maybe the celebrity union, needs to organize some seminars on how to face and solve and evade those problems being in a celebrity world. They need to hand together and be involved to the project,so that this thing won’t happen again..Life is precious to waste it,we need to feel happy and feel love of evryone, out there…. Rest In Peace…
You cannot simply ignore slandering comments on the internet about yourself. As much as someone might say “pfft, I don’t care what they think”, these celebrities, their job is all about what people think and how they present themselves and how people perceive them. As well as that, after all, we’re all humans that are vulnerable.
omg he’s so young… it’s sad to hear about these…=\
RIP
omg he’s so young
i’m against suicide but i’m starting to hope that those netizens could start killing themselves too and make korea a better place
rip kim ji hoo
*sigh* I guess I wasn’t strong enough to take the consequences. RIP.
if he is gay then he is gay. why harass him? its an open society now. nothing’s wrong with that. its not a sin or evil choice!
rip
WHAT A WASTE… R.I.P
THIS IS JUST TOO MUCH……..SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. AND SOON………HOW MANY MORE…..
I THINK PEOPLE IN KOREA NEED A REALITY CHECK………..
@Jinglebel
It’s not an open society there
korea, stop killing your own people.
SORRY, I WAS JUST UPSET…………I BELIVE THAT ALL CELEBRITIES NEED TO GET TOGETHER…..AND TRY TO WORK THIS OUT ….MAY BE GET SOME KIND OF HELP OR SOMETHING……AND PEOPLE IN KOREA NEED TO REALIZE THAT CELEBRITIES ARE HUMAN BEINGS…THEY ARE NOT PERFECT……..AND THEY HAVE A PRIVATE LIFE….AND IS NOBODY’S BUSNESS……….SO.LEAVE THEM ALONE…….
GOD. This is crazy.
Spreading stories via internet in SK is way too violent.
Internet in Korea has the power to control a human’s life!
Commit suicide is like…a trend??
Don’t they have any faith to hold on to??
RIP bro..well, i thought Korean ppl accept gay ~ heh.
my sister teaches in an international english academy for koreans. one thing she was told about during their orientation was to be careful about (female) koreans’ attitude or love for backstabbing…
koreans love it.. and most just couldnt handle it.. sad to hear again a tragic story about a beautiful life…
So sad….. I wasn’t serious about a category for all the suicides, but wow….I think there’ll have to be a category for all these deaths pretty soon. So sad…
Wow. I didn’t realize emotions can take over a person’s mind like that. People shouldn’t let others determine what happens to their life. This is just insane.
Jeez, he was really cute too. I think he was brave for even being on that show Coming Out, gay or not, considering homosexuality in Korea is so on the down low.
This whole thing is ridiculous. And how are you going to protect people from rumors? Especially when you’re the most wired country in the world where crazy netizens never leave their computers (or phones)…
RIP Kim Ji Hoo…
I couldn’t imagine, I just posted my message last Monday and now, another suicide case again…How many more?1, 2, 3?…That should be enough!!If you plan to commit suicide go to the orphanage first and see how important your life is…the people are struggling to live more and despite that some people have physical defect and yet they are fighting…although many people are struggling to live but still many rumorous minds spreading around. and thats very absurd, hey people a small fire can even burn the forest. Imagine, you can’t bring back their lives, you also caused their death although what they did was wrong to end up their lives to a senseless death… so please stop spreading rumor. You can’t be famous by spreading rumor but you can be a killer of emotions…..so sad….stop committing suicide…..you should control your mind and don’t be controlled by your mind……..life is more valuable than thinking of rumors of other people. Life_precious…life_precious…life_precious…life_precious
oh my god however it’s too tragic i wanna say they are kind foolish who commits suicide
they r very young and they can begin their life again from the start but i don’t know what kind of reasons there r to die
his pics are werid but wow another one …
I think depression must be a disease in koreA. Like hello!! Were in 21 century! He might be gay or not, why make such a big deal? Gays were living in 21 century, gays are more than welcome like anybody else. Korean netizen really need to stop harrasing this Korean celebrities, can’t they just shut their mouth and if their not a fan, just leave them alone. Like seriously, this never stops if the Korean gov’t just sit still and do nothing about this, then all hated celebs will be dead by the next few years. Am I talking too much?? I’ll stop. Rest in peace
i swear to God, Korean netizens have killed almost as many people as a genocide.
why can’t they just get a life and stop ending other’s?
R.I.P
I’m a Korean netizen, and ironically I saw the news on popseoul first. I went over to Korean portal sites to confirm and yes, it is indeed true.
People don’t learn. Nothing has changed on the Korean internet - people are still posting hate speech against each other, and throwing verbal stones at celebrities.
Did anyone on popseoul hear about Harisu? She criticized 악플러 (literally evil comment posters) but all she got in return was rudeness. It was on Cyworld, so she had the real names of the people(Cyworld uses a real-name system). She called the rude commenters on her phone and they turned out to be mostly primary school children. Very few of them were teenagers, and none of them were legal adults.
That’s baffling, isn’t it? But it does say a lot.
Most people here probably don’t know about the political situation in Korea at the moment. Take my word for it when I say the government ‘cracking down’ on the internet is not a good thing. The laws they’re trying to pass are ridiculous. For example, they’re trying to make it so that ‘rude’ comments will be deleted and the commenter punished even if there were no complaints about the actual comment. What this means is that the government will effectively have 100% control over the Korean internet. Anyone who has the faintest idea about what the Korean government is like right now knows that’s not a good thing.
No matter how terrible the comments are, I’m against the laws that the Korean government is trying to pass. Something else needs to be done. Increasing awareness of cyber violence offline would be a start. Most non-internet users still have no idea what the Korean internet is like.
Education about cyber violence offline, in schools, would also be good. It’s likely that (no matter how sad this may sound) most 악플러 (the ones committing cyber violence) are bored, impressionable primary school children. Which is why offline education might be effective.
The homophobes who started this can go to hell. In this case, I sincerely hope that karma exists, and that every single one of those online homophobes will get what they deserve.
고인의 명복을 빕니다. 한국사람으로서, 한국 네티즌으로서 지켜드리지 못해 죄송합니다.
i’m so sad to hear about another suicide but f*ucking netizens need to shut the f*ck up. sorry for the vulgarity but these netizens need to realize the difference between CRITICISM and HARASSMENT!! you aren’t perfect so don’t expect celebrities to be imperfect, THEY AREN’T! if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at than
Please no more!
what………….???????????????
what the heck is the problem with korean stars….
its better to be an alcoholic like the americans than commiting suicide….but according to a saint we cannot really rest until we rest in peace…so R.I.P.
dude, even americans bully their gays to death if they live in the wrong towns. have compassion for this young man. sad loss, RIP.
Gosh, another death T___T
RIP Kim Ji-Hoo
this should stop. Too much death is scary =/
And you wonder why artists try so hard to hide the fact that they are attached……. It’s really sad that someone who just has a different preference gets hounded to death.
It really shows how close-minded some ple are… R.I.P> thats really interesting that the harrassers Harisu called are young kids.
But really, sometimes we underestimate kids because of their age> does anyone remember playground bullying? some have it so bad that they do not even wanna go to school. I can’t imagine how it is for kids…. i wouldn’t want to be schooling in korea right now.
I think what the govt should do is impose a age limite on cyber posts, like minimum 16 or 18. Bcos some language used is definitely not suitable for kids either. Ban them, cos these are the ple who think that u get pregnant from kissing
Did anyone think that maybe, they weren’t really suicides. Honestly, 3 identical suicides?
I thought Japan had the highest suicide rate.
RIP. yeah my reaction was also WTF, this has got to STOP
Nikkie
“ts better to be an alcoholic like the americans than commiting suicide….but according to a saint we cannot really rest until we rest in peace…so R.I.P.”
First of all I think before you start calling out Americans on Alcoholism you better first look at Korea. Also it’s not better to be an alcholic and kill somebody, that is the stupidest thing that I’ve heard. What saint are you talking about?
Everyone talks about the fault of netizens and how the government should look into establishing restrictions to protect its people. But that’s far from the problem itself. As someone stated before, Korea itself is a closely knitted community that will bear excruciating stress and competitiveness in the upbringing society whether the “netizen” problem gets solved or not. That’s just part of the many issues in Korea.
@ Nikkie
LOL. Alhocolism is a lifestyle in Korea. It’s so prevalent that they don’t view it is a problem like here in the US.
I could not have said it any better than christaluvsdrama…
I’m almost becoming desensitized to the amount of suicides right now. And that’s sad. T.T
daily we’re bashing people online just like the netizens in korea do.
its really sad that he had to resort to this.
what is even more sad is that people in korea are bashing a gay man to the point it drove him mad.
korea has so much pressure to look a certain, live a certain way and if you don’t meet those expectations you’re basically considered as a failure.
As someone mentioned, in the past month 4 suicides have happened among celebrities…. so think about the regular Korean person who has so much pressure to do well in Korean society. It’s gotta be bad.
there is NO outlet. people grow up learning to SUCK it up and weakness is seen as BAD. so any mention of depression or anxiety just makes a person commit suicide because thats better than admitting that you’re depressed or have mental problems or any social problems.
RIP
this causes me to feel sicked….y do they always do this damn thing!!!
@R.I.P…if what Harisu found out is true, that most hate mails were perpetrated by grade school kids, then where are these kids parents?…these kids may be legally underaged but still liable for their acts…don’t they have juvenile courts there?…then their parents should be cited for negligence.
If government crackdown is the only way to stop these juvenile cyber criminals from killing celebrities and ordinary citizens, then I’m all for it…these kids don’t deserve this freedom…if they are like this now I can’t even imagine what they’d be like when they become adults.
I am saddened again by this, having a gay brother in an Asian family, I can understand what he’s gone through. I hope he has forgiven those who made his life miserable enough to make him end it this way…rest in peace KJH
OMG!!!wat is happening???
i’m so sad…he juz 2 young 2 die..
T________T
xxx
OML, come on, LIfe is so precious and short, we should live life to the fullest… People should really stop teasing each other, Pressure is so hard to deal with.
REst in Peace!!!
what made them think that the only way out is by ending one’s life??
this is totally not acceptable anymore.
we can blame the netizens for being too harsh, the government for not caring too much(??) or the person himself for not having self-actualized.
i see it in a lot of kdramas and movies..the korean culture is very adept and contained. the people does not show enough emotion to even let the people around them that they are somehow not in good shape. i dont know if it’s about religion, maybe the family culture but anyhow anyway you can NOT take your own life! only God can!
and they consider themselves celebrities..celebrities are supposed-to-be models for the society but with the way they are acting, i guess they better stay at home and stare at their flawless skins and perfect bodies…
still, RIP model Kim Ji-hoo..
maybe the ‘gay’ rumor was right .. he cannot take it anymore and cannot hide himself .. he may feel that he will be a failure if this secret will be known .. in this cruel world .. all you need is a strong faith to God .. or else you will really give up .. RIP
OMG!! WHY!!?!?!? this is not good! so many! suicides!!! God have mercy!!
RIP…T.T
OMG this is like an epidemic. one after another…i really hope that netizens will stop harassing the celebs, models and everyoneelse. this is really serious. RIP kim ji-hoo
Amen.
Social pressure must be HELL in korea >________>
Okay, the gay thing is just ridiculous…
Yes, in Korea, there is a very high social pressure against homosexuals who are “out”, but do you guys realize how bad that is for the mental health of those people?
I’ve even met someone who said something as ridiculous as, “Well, we Koreans are really harash against gays, so that’s why we are so low in rate of gay men.” He said that WITH PRIDE… -_-
Okay, facts are facts. Regardless of whether society accepts you are not, if you are gay, then you are gay. You might be able to pretend that you’re straight until the day you die, but that just puts an immense, unhealthy mental bearing on your life. Imagine leading a double life, your ENTIRE life. It is far much healthier for the Korean young homosexuals to be able to be open and receive support (which they don’t get, which is the big problem).
I for one am against overly supporting homosexuality, because I do also believe that with the increase in media exposure in movies/anime/etc. of homosexuality, there are some young individuals who never really were or would be gay, but end up “trying it out” for curiousity. Now, I am totally against that.
But from the few gay friends I’ve known, NONE OF THEM asked to be gay. In fact, all three of them (who came out to me) said that if they can ask God for one wish, they’d wish to be born liking women. There are some people saying ridiculous things like, “Well then, they should just not be gay.” -_- Ok, if you’re being gay out of curiousity, that’s one thing, but most of these homosexuals don’t choose to be gay.
Why the hell would they choose to be gay when doing so ends up making their lives 100 times harder? It’s just so unsympathetical and narrow minded to believe so.
I’m sure the homosexuality was a large tie for this unfortunate young man to have committed suicide. And I really appluad him that he was courageous enough to come forth with his individuality, despite the immense abomination he knew he would receive from the Korean society. I truly wish him and his family condolences…
Makes me want to go over there and yank the power supply off of the entire South Korea’s freaking internet sources!!! It’s a crying shame what’s going on over there.
As if societal and peer pressures are not enough, people have to contend with rumors (reagrdless of truth), hatred, damataion, and degradation. I see plenty of bashing going in all over this site alone. People…find something useful to do with your lives and stop the madness!!
ehhhh this is too much! Korea needs to let lose on some issues and allow help if its needed. is korea that conservative?
^^that’s DAFAMTION, rather than “damataion”. anger got the better of me!
Dang, another one o-o
Korea needs to do something about it…its scaring away the people like me who wants to live for a while in Korea >_<
Netizens should stop being so harsh, they’re the one to blame for his death D;
I knew the world would come apart. Depression era for all continents! Says a lot about how messed up and superficial our society is.
Well said christaluvsdrama!
I’m so sad to hear about all this senseless death…my mom’s been in the hospital for 2 months fighting for her life so watching others throw theirs away really saddens and angers me all at the same time.
Life is way too precious folks! Live because that’s what we’re born to do. Death does nothing for you and it only leaves pain for those you leave behind. So fight the good fight, live each day as though it’s your last (’cause tomorrow is promised to no one) and make the most of each new precious day!
maybe he and others like Choi Jinshil wants to forever be remembered. kinda sad cuz it’s such a desperate cry.
So effing sad! He was so young too, he had so much life ahead of him. I am glad that he had the courage to let ppl know who he really was.
As sad as this is…something should be done very soon!
Once upon as time I lived in Korea, yes Koreans are pretty harsh towards homosexual individuals, I was told to my face that no gay people exist in Korea, I seriously wanted to just slap that person…I meant some gay-Koreans before. *sheesh* the ignorance is just baffling!!!
believe folks there are doctors in Korea that are there to help! Its just that its considered to damn taboo for anyone to get help! There are celebrities who seek help! I remember one celebrity who openly discussed seeking help for his depression and bipolar disorder. The help is out there its just that no one is reaching out for it.
Hopefully someday things in Korean society will change for the better~ Till then Rest in Peace Kim Ji hoo~
these netizens need to STFU. im serious.
IT’S SAD that SOME IDIOTS harassed him for being gay ~_~
This has gotten really out of hand. Please no more suicides. T__T
Korean netizens should really stop harassing these people now. How many more suicides do we need for them to realize that they’re pushing these people to their limits? They may be stars. They may be famous. But heck. They’re humans too. They have feelings and and they get hurt just like us.
You’re lucky if you have many friends whom you can trust. But given that you’re famous, it’s really hard to find someone you can trust. That may be the reason why these people resort to suicide. Something has to be done.
R.I.P. T___T
darn those netizens.
The celebrities just need to learn how to ignore the rumors. Why care about what they say when you know you are better than them. Commiting suicide is like admitting that the rumors are true. If it’s not, suicide is not telling them it’s not true. Why not live to try to show them it’s untrue.
i am beginning to think that these people who are committing a suicide are trying to spread a message, like stopping netizens with their crude comments
i am not sure if that’s true but it sure is a depresseing way to spread the message
they should treasure their life, for every person that approves of them there will always be a lot more that opposes
as celebrities they should know by now the hardships of life
anyways i hope no more celebrities resort to ending their life because of extremely stressful events…there will always be people who suppor tthem and they need to understand how hurt their loved ones will feel
It’s as if they are copying each other ….=_= yeah ..
R.I.P =/
@ moochi:
Perhaps, that is a creepy but very possible idea.
I hope that with the unfortunate and sad deaths of these celebrities, at least some good will come out of them (like netizens’ mannerisms getting a bit better from now on).
I mean, technically, I know some kids who used to post things like that, and some of them are pretty shocked that the people they harassed online, thinking of it as nothing more than a “joke”, have literally ended their lives.
Kind of like blood being on their hands.
That last paragraph at the end says a lot to me. People shouldn’t feel so pressured man. This is freakin’ ridiculous. -.-
from marmot hole:
Following the announcement of his sexual orientation, Kim’s management agency did not renew his contract and many TV programs and fashion shows cancelled his appearances. His blog was bombarded with numerous messages denouncing his sexual orientation.
The nasty comments apparently continued even after news of his death broke.
Reading marmot hole’s post made me really sad. It’s so terrible. I wish Kim had not come out. I hope people will be more compassionate and tolerant of gays in Korea after this.
it started when gay people starting to say “IM PROUD TO BE GAY =D” so then people thought that they wanna be gay lol but it’s not an option who would wanna be gay? that’s wat i thought until i hv a few gay friends so yeahh beside it shouldnt be matter what you are but WHO you are!? maybe this guy suicide bc he just hv no one to talk to =[ R.I.P. dude
p.s.
it’s kindah weird cuz he doesnt even looks like a model!
and damn those stupid effing korean chicks! they ‘ll be all up on you but then when they finds out you are gay they’ll be like “HE’s GAY dah dah dah” …..wth dude….once when they found out DBSK is gay and ss501 n Ukiss n them hahahah that would be funny!
omg.
this is really….
why is this happening again and again T.T
I did’nt know pressure will be so stressful for them and that they’ll actually committ suicide.
thats not the best path to choose.
having a consultant would’ve been slightly better.
agreed that the korean gov has to look into the rising suicide cases and show concern to the people.
RIP,kim ji hoo..
You have to understand that their culture is very different from our.
ii think someones like murdering all these people and make it all seem like suicide. :/ its been like what? 4 people all dying by being hung? goodness.
rip
i really wish there was like a cyber police or something. what the hell is wrong with netizens.
gosh … R.I.P Its so sad and at such a young age too.
Netizens need to calm down and get a life.
stupid teenagers..
this is good….THE WEAK MUST DIE!!!! GOOD JOB!
This is so sad… RIP
this is good….
Just about every other country has adequate laws on cyber bullying and abuse of the internet. That sort of netizen behavior would mean jail time. I agree that the government needs to STRICTLY enforce it more.
What a waste of a life. Suicide for reasons that shouldn’t be.
ic… korean cyworld gotta shut down =]
wow it’s like suicide is the new trend in Korea now?
so if u wanna be cool, go kill yerself =D
Ok at first I was like very sad for the korean celebrities who killed themselves, but come on this is getting rather annoying.. I’m sorry but it’s true. They can kill the body but not the spirit… I really do no believe that all of the people who killed themselves are at peace …
Sierra
“This is ridiculous… other than being gay… what other faults did he have? Too good looking?”
You make it sound like being gay IS a fault…please, I suggest you open your mind a little.
I feel so sorry for Kim Ji Hoo…no one ever deserves to be harassed like that, and being gay should never be thrown around as if it’s a sin.
R.I.P.
Seriously, what is this? Personally, I don’t actually know these recent celebrities that have commited suicide, but my heart still goes out to them. I totally understand how they feel under that pressure. I mean, sure, they’re celebrities, and sure, you’re suppose to watch them. BUT…WHY are you pressurizing them? They’re humans, not robots made without feelings and there to do what you want.
My friend told me korean people/fans are very big on entertainers and how they act and stuff. And now, I see how big. It’s big to the point of pushing that person enough for them to commit suicide.
In Arab nations, Gays or Homosexuals don’t need to kill themselves…the mob will do it for them. All of the homos there are either in the closet or socialize very secretly amongst themselves.
When Leslie Cheung revealed that he was bi-sexual, he was bashed by his own people and eventually took his own life due to depression. South Korea have accommodation for homos such as gay clubs, they’ve come a long ways in accepting their existence. But their rights are limited and treatment is not nearly on par with rest of the society. Still long ways to go just like in any other asian nations…..
Choi Jin Sil’s suicide made such a monstrous headline that it created an aftershock to those who were going through similar psychological struggles. It made them more depressed and also gave them courage to take the plunge. It’s foolish to say that it’s a trend, mentally sound people will only be saddened by such incident, but mentally disturbed people can be affected with fatality such as this case with KJH. Sad and tough year for South Korea, successful Olympics were a bright spot, but that’s only temporary happiness.
Encourage everyone you know of who’s going through struggles to remain positive, because you never know if that person is suicidal especially in this day of economical hard times.
Rest in peace Mr. Kim Ji Hoo~
ummm. excuse me, joemama?
“this is good….THE WEAK MUST DIE!!!! GOOD JOB!”
^whoever you are, you have a sick and disgusting mind. whoever thinks that a person kills themselves is “weak,” is even more of a coward who hides behind stupid and idiotic words.
you have a disturbing mindset that is not healthy to your mental being at all. Go see a doctor. God knows for how long you’ve needed one.
R.I.P. this is too sad.
I wonder if ppl think suicide is a game!
Only Kim Ji-hoo and these “netizens” are to blame here. And the Korean government doesn’t need to change anything here. It’s not the job of the Korean government to be worrying about celebrity relations. What needs to happen is that people need to stop taking these “netizens” so seriously. I love the fact that someone as successful and talented at Kim Ji-hoo and many other celebrities still feed off and live off what netizens have to say about them. Pretty pathetic.
Success is its own reward - not popularity. Koreans need to stand tall on their accomplishments and their success from it - not what they look like, how many friends they have or how much money they have.
