Korean music industry wants blood

Is blood what it takes to be a star these days?

New music act, Hero has signed sealed and delivered their contract in blood with their management company. The faceless member revealed in the short UCC clip that he has always wanted to be a singer. So pricking his finger to smear his own blood on paper would be considered something trivial to the bigger and better things that await him.

However, the Korean netizens are shocked and outraged that the music industry has resorted to medieval methods of binding an agreement. And the media agrees that the blood pact is totally unprofessional.

In response, Hero’s management released the statement the the 3 members of Hero were gungho about adding that extra flavoring to the signed agreement.
Watch the blood pact here.

The new group, Hero has released their new song, “Only a day” (하루만) but not their faces.
Check out their new video here:

  9. 9 kamee October 10, 2008 at 1:15 pm

bring on the goth references. gawd..they’re just putting to light the fact that this does happen…all the time. not exactly how they depicted it, but honestly…how many times does a star visit the hospital for exhaustion during their career??

  10. 10 kookee October 10, 2008 at 1:17 pm

    publicity…publicity…

  11. 11 kanginGF418 October 10, 2008 at 1:28 pm

    but the whole blood thing just creeps me outt -_-;;

  12. 12 rachel October 10, 2008 at 1:32 pm

the song sounds like it should be an o.s.t.

  13. 13 Nicole October 10, 2008 at 1:40 pm

I think its a publicity stunt.

A company who actually does this for real would never let their trainees post that video up.

  14. 14 Masaya October 10, 2008 at 1:48 pm

    Publicity stunt obviously.

  15. 15 Arie October 10, 2008 at 1:48 pm

    sychos… D;
It’s kinda messy too, they didn’t need to smear the blood all over the place…

oh the lifestyles of the rich and famous

  23. 23 Dovey October 10, 2008 at 3:10 pm

  26. 26 dgfhgfh October 10, 2008 at 3:36 pm

eww man wtf is wrong with them

  27. 27 What't the matter? October 10, 2008 at 3:43 pm

Haha…. A person’s blood and their fingerprints are unique, and it cannot be easily forged, best, reliable, and shows that you are willing to go the extra mile.

  28. 28 oluchi October 10, 2008 at 3:46 pm

wow. a blood pact is perhaps (in certain circles) the most binding of all agreements. i do not want to be that band right now.

  29. 29 misspenn October 10, 2008 at 3:48 pm

    that is disturbing

  30. 30 rk October 10, 2008 at 3:50 pm

duh its for publicity. and i find it amusing. don’t take it seriously. obviously it wasn’t a stipulation cuz thats just stupid.

  31. 31 christina October 10, 2008 at 3:51 pm

um first of all, why would someone make a video of that and put it on the internet?
t’s probably a ploy to get attention.

  32. 32 asianromance October 10, 2008 at 3:59 pm

Smearing it on the contract-hat’s just gross. I can understand a blood fingerprint, though. I agree that sacrificing like two drop of blood is pretty trivial now that they’re in the entertainment business- they’d probably lose more blood practicing for dances until their feet bleed or end up getting sent to the hospital from fainting from exhaustion. Like some other people said, I also think this is a publicity stunt.

and gosh, do we really NEED another boy band?

  33. 33 miyaka October 10, 2008 at 4:12 pm

Prob to get attention or maybe the management co.’s run by gangsters. That’s prob how it’s done in Korea when signing contracts among gangsters. They use blood as ink.

  34. 34 cheonsa October 10, 2008 at 4:23 pm

hahahaha i see korea university in the music video!! x.x

  35. 35 han October 10, 2008 at 4:26 pm

  38. 38 s123 October 10, 2008 at 5:41 pm

    creepy…

  39. 39 cheoro October 10, 2008 at 5:56 pm

  40. 40 Sierra October 10, 2008 at 6:29 pm

Copy cats… why couldn’t they like call themselves Saviour :P

Blood pact? A little too passionate, are we? :P

  41. 41 JooRii October 10, 2008 at 6:35 pm

    Hero?
What’s with new celebrities and the stage name “Hero” these days? D:
We have YoungWoong JaeJoong, then SMASH’s Hero, and now this guy?! >_<

  42. 42 Arie October 10, 2008 at 6:49 pm

if you didn’t get it, HERO is the name of the WHOLE GROUP, not of one of the members ;D

  43. 43 Fleep♥ October 10, 2008 at 7:30 pm

    Thats creepy yall.

  44. 44 deeintheus October 10, 2008 at 8:30 pm

i really don’t see anything wrong with it.

whats a few drops of blood. i think every one, if they find something that they really want to achieve a few drops of blood won’t be such a big thing.

i am sure they will still have to bleed and sweat more if they want to be a success in the cutthroat world of k-pop.

  45. 45 boldstripes October 10, 2008 at 10:10 pm

that’s sick..gross and is just for publicity…ugh that is so freaky…

  46. 46 Booyah! October 10, 2008 at 10:18 pm

    eww with blood??

    October 10, 2008 at 12:50 pm
On that’s just nasty and wrong. What are they, Satan worshippers?

just cause someone is passionate and sincere about something enough to sign in blood doesnt mean they are satan worshippers. there such things as blood brothers which is a pack mad between friends by pricking their fingers and blending their blood together. that comes from native americans who dont believe in the devil.
you people are some closed minded. please stay in school and get some education especially about the history of asian countries and cultures. many of the religions and ways of thinking is far from what is natural.

“there is more of heaven and earth you dream of in the night”

  49. 49 moo October 10, 2008 at 11:06 pm

    cheap publicity stunt.

have we run out of red ink already?

But seriously, if the individual feels that he needs to shed his blood for his own gratification, well I guess that’s his own issue. I do not see the need to share the whole event with the rest of the world.

But you know, perhaps they could’ve been less messy with their blood pact. Hmm, maybe they should’ve have squeezed out more blood, dip their thumb in it and tadah, we have a blood thumbprint. That would make more sense, no?

    -rolls eyes-

I don’t know how far this group might go but oh well, all the best. It’s sad that Kpop is turning into a cult.

p.s: y’know, korean celebs do have a tendency to choose very corny and cheesy english names. I cringe everytime I hear the adopted english names of these celebs. HAHA.

  50. 50 itchyone October 10, 2008 at 11:48 pm

why the f**k do people care what other people are WILLING to do on their own?

And who are all these netizens who have nothing better in life to do than be “shocked and outraged”? People need to get a life ……

  51. 51 rockmyboat. October 10, 2008 at 11:53 pm

    all for publicity

  52. 52 we October 11, 2008 at 12:07 am

  53. 53 timelessluv October 11, 2008 at 12:48 am

    ewwww what the heck?!

haha this is something id expect from father sm!!! lololol

  55. 55 z11 October 11, 2008 at 1:19 am

there was a korean man who tried to sue another korean man for breach of contract on a contract that was signed in blood.
The judge threw out the case.

  56. 56 z11 October 11, 2008 at 1:19 am

that happened in california a few years ago

  57. 57 Anna October 11, 2008 at 1:42 am

    eeeew

  58. 58 koko October 11, 2008 at 2:49 am

i wish that method was only used for indigestion and smeared on a piece of kleenix, and not for some mafia-like contract.

seriously, as if your signature and your own stamp isn’t enough?

  59. 59 kellz October 11, 2008 at 2:49 am

what the hell….what has this world turn into?!

  60. 60 jenny October 11, 2008 at 3:16 am

  63. 63 Raven October 11, 2008 at 6:26 am

    Ugghhh o_0

  64. 64 Izumi October 11, 2008 at 6:29 am

I think this was a nasty way of getting a jump start boost in popularity and attention…

There is no legal difference between signing a contract in ink (or with a stamp, as they do in Korea) or in blood. It was absolutely unnecessary.

  65. 65 Kiki October 11, 2008 at 6:55 am

    ooh nice song XD

  66. 66 twilighter~ October 11, 2008 at 7:40 am

  67. 67 Sarah October 11, 2008 at 9:57 am

    amazing song..
i think he’s trying to show his extreme dedication, but to be honest, i feel as though it’s a bit too extreme. a little barbaric and unnecessary. but a .. sweet symbolism.

  68. 68 hannahlove October 11, 2008 at 10:46 am

the music doesn’t sound like anything new to me
    sg wannabe wannabes

soo scary!!!!! i was shocked abt the name HERO…its the same like ma fave youngwoong-ie! hahaa

  71. 71 Mr. October 11, 2008 at 12:31 pm

why are DBSK fans so paranoid about other people having the same names as their idols, it’s not doing anything to hurt them geez

  72. 72 medmusxx October 11, 2008 at 1:10 pm

Oh Thats pretty bad! its good for his publicty and fame but not for his soul.

  73. 73 thenestcoop October 11, 2008 at 1:32 pm

I love it. That’s hilarious and ironic because it’s so accurate. At least they’re keeping it real now. Instead of hiding the fact that they have you down to your blood in those contracts anyway. I think it shows more authentic communication than before.

But it also goes to show that young bands still believe in trying to get that brass ring. They think that the major record labels have some magic potion or secret to launching their careers. It’s “BS” because all the majors have is money. Sure…that’s the fast way to reach a broad audience but it’s the lazy way out. It’s a fireball ride into the sky and a faster meteor ride burning back to the ground.

How about trying a little hard work? It can all be achieved if you spend the time and do the work. You don’t need big bucks. You need great songs and to be committed to doing what you love (making music) for your lifes work. Doing the ground work will build a better solid base for your tower of success to stand on.

Sure it gets so big that you may need a team at some point but don’t sign away your future (ie: 3 option deal and high% of publishing…your retirement). Those big labels will tie up your whole life and never let you go.

All I’m saying is be unique and creative. Work hard to share it with the world. And find success in the “now”, not the “when”. Because the “brass ring” tarnishes fast.

I truly wish you lots of luck and success too.

    weeeeee!
    -J

  74. 74 missglasses October 11, 2008 at 1:47 pm

just like Naruto when he made an agreement letter for calling a big frog with Jiraiya sensei. He also used his blood to sign the letter, haha…

  75. 75 yayaya October 11, 2008 at 1:49 pm

Oh, blood pact is sacred IMO. Shame they use this for a public stunt.

  76. 76 jagadgurusriwirdi October 11, 2008 at 2:14 pm

i guess they mean for him to work hard! Work with with major sweat and blood…they are just doing it literally….

Erm yeah there’s this thing called DNA fingerprinting; ever heard of it? GOSH!
Hmm.. seems like this is their method of gaining attention.
It’d better not influence any other people that are planning to make a debut :[
Noooooo why have they copied another celebs name? That name belongs to JaeJoong :(
Anyway I hope they are successful, but seriously please change the name otherwise they’ll have to deal with Cassiopeia- AND ME! LOL

  82. 82 Minju October 12, 2008 at 1:46 am

Weird….the blood wasnt even smeared on in a neat way…all smothered like a bloody death.

  86. 86 sovereign October 12, 2008 at 8:19 am

Wow. I agree with many people here, if that’s the signers choice to be “gungho” about it and go as far as blood signing, so be it, but if that’s not the case, this is simply ridiculous.

  87. 87 tia.lovee October 12, 2008 at 3:19 pm

    EW.
this isnt extra flavouring. more like, extra disturbing.
