The departure of Andy and Solbi triggered the downward spiral of ratings for TV show, “We got married.”
Even with the inclusion of new couples, Hwanhee and Hwayobi as well as Marco and Son Dambi, the lack of chemistry wasn’t enough to spark life back into the show.
Now the re-announcement of Alex and Shinae’s departure due to “busy schedules,” is the end near for this popular show?
Viewers were first drawn to the cheesy show because of the distinctive characters and relatable nature of each couple to their own personal lives. For example:
The Cute couple, Andy and Solbi, who do all the cutesy activities most newly weds typically do
The Ant Couple, Crown J and Suh In Young, who bicker a lot but still make up in the end
The Ssang Chu (Lettuce) Couple, Hwang Bo and Hyun Joong, the awkward couple with the age gap
The Romantic Couple, Alex and Shinae, the couple with the relationship every girl dreams of having
But now with the loss of two of its main couples plus the impending departure of the Ssang Chu couple due to Hyun Joong’s involvement in the drama “Boys over Flowers“, will this show really be worth watching anymore?
The show’s producers seemed to have foreseen these problems and have tried their best to resuscitate life back into the show by doing the things that failing shows do:
1. Change the set
In the beginning, there was a basic set up of the MCs standing in the middle and the couples were placed around a cute garden table. But now, the set has changed into a serious panel discussion with a single long table seating everyone.
2. Include other stars with mass fan bases.
Thus far, WGM has included Super Junior’s Lee Teuk and Eunhyuk as well as the SS501’s Kyu Jong and Hyung Joon and Wondergirls‘ Yubin and Ye Eun.
Yet, even with all this, is it possible for the show to survive or will it share the fate of many other popular shows like Xman and Loveletter?

Andy left the show to promote his almbum before leaving for the military by mid-2009. Solbi is understanding and agreed…plus, she’s busy herself.
The main reason ShinAe is leaving is because she has a historical drama starting its filming soon and the shooting place is outside of Seoul which complicates with the ‘We Got Married’ and plus, the death of her good friend, actress Choi Jin-sil, only made it 100%.
It’s a bad move to have Don Don annoy Crown J & In Young… Marco & Son Dambi is not that interesting, although, they DO look great, individually and as a couple, but there’s just nothing there. hahah I like Son Dambi but I wish she had a different ‘husband’….maybe if Marco had a different ‘partner’ too…like a mix-matched like Hwahnee & Hyobi!!!
LOL, I’m a huge fan of the show and its old couples, but yes, I AM worried of what the departures would do to the show. After Ansol left, the rating went down a lot, even after it was moved to the 2nd part of Sunday show, it used to be up against Family Outing, I think, but now it’s not.
And I guess with shows like this, people have grown attached to the couples, especially the long running ones, and would probably leave too once those couples leave. I don’t even want to think how the show would be like if Ant couple and Ssangchu leave.
And those Idol group appearances, yes, gotta agree. It’s a blatant attempt of upping the ratings and even though it’s good for the fans, I just hate the fact that with these appearances, the original couples got lesser screentime of the already reduced time from having 5 couples T_T…
BTW, Popseoul, it’s KYUJONG, do your homework. I’ve seen lotsa mistakes like this. If you wanna snark, at least snark at the right people..

Damn why do ppl stop watching just cuz ppl are leaving, they have their own lives to live too. you cant expect them to be on the show forever. viewers should have more faith in the show!!!!

watching sondambi+marco is just plain annoying im sorry. individually they’re good, but marco’s personality is just WAAAY off as a husband to a normal behaving girl.

I love the new couples and all but after Solbi&Andy left, the only reason why I was still watching WGM was because of the Ssangchu couple. If they leave..I might consider not watching the show. Too boring.

I really think that letting Andy and Solbi go was a big loss for the show and now AlShin but in case the JoongBo couple leave then this would definitely hit the show that hard that I don’t think they can still survive. I agree to those who posted their comments here about the new couples. They are cute in their own ways but I don’t think they’ll be able to capture the viewers attention as couples especially Marco and Son Dambi who doesn’t have any chemistry at all.
Also, I don’t think that changing the set of the studio or inviting celebrities would help. It only let the viewers think that the whole show is scripted which we don’t want to think, right? I guess it’s not in these changes that they will be able to get back on track. What they need are couples that would catch the viewers attention because of their curiosity just like what they did when they experimented with the old couples like JoongBo.

To keep going, the couples just need to have CHEMISTRY. That’s what makes the other couples good. You get to see real life romance unfolding, and see how they get closer.
That’s what propels really good dramas. The journey to falling in love. If there’s no chemistry between the couples, there’s nothing to watch. Just people who tolerate each other. That doesn’t get ratings.
I really enjoyed solbi and andy, after that the shows didnt seem all that interesting so i stopped watching it. Now with alex and shinae leaving the ratings will be even lower.

From what I read my darling Ssangchu Couple is not going off any time soon even with Hyun Joong shi’s new upcoming drama. They are currently filming as many episodes as possible that’s why you don’t see them in the studio.
Also, the PD did announce that there will be no new couple coming in or no more couples leaving the show (after Alshin)…so this spells good news for Joongbo aka Ssangchu couple!
Ep. 31 was a blast what with the darling bro-in-laws (baby Hyung Joon & Kyu Joong meeting the Wondergirls - so what if it was somewhat contrived by PD (maybe) - it made for good watch! And our awkward couple is awkward no more since Ep. 30……I totally love how the evolved from their first meet in Ep.9 till-to-date…They are the most interesting couple. I will miss the Alshin couple (they were my fav at first) and Ansol couple was so nice to watch too. Ant Couple’s story is going down the tubes..not so interesting any more…Can’t stand the Marco & Dambi couple - poor Dambi, I pity her ..and Hwanyobi & Hwanhee couple is also shaping up quite hillariously I must say!

I have to admit that I’m slowly losing interest in the show. Before, I wouldn’t even mind watching the entire episode without a single sub, because even though I didn’t understand everything, it was still entertaining. Now, I start watching, skim, and then lose interest… it’s kind of sad.
I think the biggest problem is that they didn’t pick good enough replacement couples. They don’t have any chemistry, and are extremely annoying. Though I love Hwayobi, it just isn’t working when Hwanhee plays hard to get and doesn’t want to cooperate. Marco, the Argentinian or whatever, is driving me insane. He is exactly what every girl hates, and the immaturity of someone who is allegedly 6 years older than Dambi just doesn’t cut it. You pity Son Dambi. It doesn’t invoke interest in seeing how things resolve. I just don’t want to watch it because it’s almost too much to bear. *sigh* The show’s just going downhill. Even if the ant couple stay, I am hesitant to watch.

I don’t think I will be one of those who stop watching it just because the old couples are leaving, or when my favorite couples leave (Alshin & Joongbo). I will really miss them, but it is just a reality television show, so I guess I will just have to try to learn to love the new couples. After all, it was expected that the couples will eventually leave T.T Every couple is different in their own way, so as long as they start to change along the way and the missions are still interesting, I will continue watching We Got Married. I guess another reason why some people are no longer watching the series is due to the fact that the concepts are similar. Like the couples do a mission every week and that’s it. Whereas shows like Family Outing are more popular these days because there are new guests every week. It is really hard to say how long We Got Married will last, but I have a feeling that the show will not end for a long time. They just need to invite even more popular stars from legendary groups or something.

i only and always wished that everytime the new episodes are up, there will be something different and refreshing to watch than the so planned romantic-event, stuff like that gets plain and nothing.
i mean shouldnt the show is about real marriage life couple? aside the ups and downs, reveal the secrets and recipes for the long-lasting happiness marriage, how to work from one stranger to be close two together. what the couple wants, how will they plan/handle the finances together if they to have children, or not, now isnt marriage life includes ‘BIG’family too? so be creative! isnt that hard since they featured all stars singers/models/actors(if any) they shouldve known better right so no worries. if only the producers or pds to not be so lack of ideas the ratings wouldnt be blindly because of the stars.
just see how hwangbo to handle the young-blunt hyunjoong -love contract, they follow one step ahead climbing the stairs slowly almost perfectly untill ….. lets wait for more details. now they are like the most fun and worth your star program varieaty sunday show.
Family outing, 2D1N, other top show competors worth watching even if they hadnt featured different stars everytime they really MEANT what exactly the OUTING means.

I am glad that the lecttuce couples, sinae&alex are going. They are kind of boring….even they left the show why you give up to watch it? They also have their own life…it is impossible to stay forever. I love the couple: Fany&Hwayobi…they are awesome. I think Hwayobi&Fany having a process of being a real couple. It is interesting to see. They seem very realistic and Fany is very honest.
