Themes of gender bending and man-on-man love stories are the hot draws for movie-goers.
Kim Min-sun stars in a new film, “Portrait of a Beauty,” (미민도 2008) another story of gender bending painter, Shin Yoon-bok of the Joseon Dynasty. The same story is already on the small screen drama, but titled, “Painter of the Wind” with Moon Geun-young, However, “Portrait of a Beauty” ups the ante with some risque action that can only be shown on the big screen.
At the VIP screening of Portrait of a Beauty, a slew of well-known celebrities flocked to the Yongsan CGV theaters on November 4.
Kim Young-ho, Chu Ja-hyun, and Kim Nam-gil also star.
“Portrait of a Beauty” will paint its way into theaters on November 13th, 2008.

Kim Min-sun and Chu Ja-hyun (below) keep it short, shiny and “sexy” in their orange colored dresses. Is it possible for these celebrities not to show everything and just keep it classy?

Chu Ja-hyun just looks cheap. One of the judges from the tv show, “Project Runway” stated that the fastest way to look cheap is to wear something “short, shiny and tight.” The orange dress has all of that.

That orange dress is absolutely hideous.
Both girls are pretty! Love the pink dress!
the girl on the top most pic as in the 1st looks manly
kim min sun practically begged for this role. she told the director that if she didn’t get this role, she’d flee the country so he was obligated to give her the role. i have no respect for ppl who do that.
watched the trailer and thought it was boring. this version does not focus on the feelings, but rather the emotional and physical attachment between her and her mentor.
doubt it’s gonna get a lot of movie viewers…i like the drama with moon geun young though…now that’s a REAL actress.
did kim min sun have some work done? i dont’ remember her cheekbones so high n sharp!
orange is a fine color…just not on that cut! she looks like a cheap race car model (what’s with the up-the-beaver shot?)
@eh
really? why would the director care about her leaving the country? joo jin-moo also begged for his A Love role didn’t he?
i hope it’s just the misleading trailer. but this movie has too much sex for something about artists (unless they also did crack, swapped bed buddies, the whole lifestyle
)
since the director’s last film was Grand Chef, it’s best to keep expectations very low…
@otto: she was gonna make a big deal about it by letting ppl know that he didn’t offer her the role and as a result, would leave the country. dunno…but it was mentioned that she got the role through tactics like that. i don’t know who joo jin moo is, so can’t comment on that.
i feel that if you’re a real actor/actress with talent, the directors come to you rather than you begging for it. just a little dignity, you know.
socializing and getting to know directors so they’ll know what kind of personality you have, what experiences you’ve had on screen, that’s fine. but forcing someone to give you a role is something i can’t come to accept. some may, but not me.
nevertheless, i’ll watch the movie when it’s released so i don’t sound too biased. though, i agree with you that there are a lot of scenes dealing with sex, which shouldn’t be the main focus of a movie about a significant figure in history (though it is fictional that yun bok is female…so in reality, the sex scenes between her and danwon would have never existed anyway).
@eh
i see your point. considering how competitive showbiz is, and how hard female lead roles are to come by when you don’t have the “It” looks/charisma, major players including the media backing you up as The Next Big Thing, it can be hard. as long as she didn’t backstab someone or do sexual favors for the role, i guess it’s not too bad. plus, looking back she’s kinda late-bloomer among other Whispering Corridors actresses in career progress (that horror series are kinda the vaunted path of “valuable starlets”.) maybe she was getting desperate. also a director may have set ideas about what he wants, not see other options. an actor may have hidden talents nobody saw or match up with an unlikely role, for unexpected results (kim myung-min was about to immigrate if he didn’t get Immortal Yi Soon Shin; gam woo-sung only got King & Clown after jang hyuk dropped out at last minute…)
jung ryu-won’s boots suck!!!
I believed it ruined the whole outfit!
Han ji-hye’s face is getting more and more annoying lol
Man-on-man as a hot draw for movie goers? I am amazed that it is.
KHN’s dress is so chic
Why do so many korean celebrities look ALOT LESS attractive in person than they do in the movies or on screen? They must have GENIUS makeup artists and camera men because some celebrities (in my opinion) are hardly even recognizable in person.
i like kim min sun. there is this elegance in her.
i like her fashion sense in her too.
i saw some old photos of her and she wasn’t
as strikingly beautiful as she is now.
i think she must have undergone some improvements
on her face.
and she looks really beautiful now, even without make up.
Hwaiting, min sun!!!!
*..*
tsam, Lee Han looks
hawt with his beard.
*..*
I lOVE Chu Ja Hyun, I think her acting skills and looks would fit this role. Lately she’s been into evil and sexy roles and I love her in the trailer. Is that a kissing scene shared with kim min sun there?
that dress doesn’t look that cheap peoples!its a thing call fashion.I didn’t know popseoul is so conservative…cmon! Project Runway?…are you some old lonely man?
You know, it’s not like every dresses in the world only belong to tall girls. Those peach and orange dresses can only be rocked by petites!!
A proof that long legs, once, didn’t help.
Go shorty
That hort, shiny and “sexy” dress is hideous if i had their money i would dress up waaay better..wtf
Jung ryu Won – her fashion is a beautiful style in winter !
cant wait to watch this movie seems interesting and new ^^ i like the lead actor
trailer looks good
Hahahahaha!!! DUDE! Look at the first chunk of pictures with the two of them in their orange and peach dresses.
Look at the guy!! He’s like, “Oops…my shoe’s untied….ooh, but while I’m down here, I’ll check out her legs!”
I bet his shoe wasn’t even untied. Even if it’s a total coincidence, that’s funny!
Looks pretty intense :O
I would like to watch that
Wow, her dress totally blends in with her skin.
That was one sexy scene.
Sucks that the other chick forced a kiss on her. >> << I want to watch the movie. :[
sounds boring……
so why are they making a movie if there’s a show with the same story on tv right now?
jung ryu won looks sick.
she played the evil ’stepsister’ in glass shoes right right?
Erm.. actually before she asked for the role. She dedicated her time to research on the role because she is fascinated with the character that’s why she wanted to do this role so much. I admire her artistic values. It took her a long time to allow herself to play the semi-nude scene as she believes that it was an important part of the movie as it show the painter blossoming as a woman and not hidden in disguise as a man, so please have some respect for this actress, Kim Min Sun.
It is really infuriating having people commenting on other actresses when they dedicate their time to create a really good movie hoping that the audiences might appreciate.
Kim Min Sun, FIGHTING!
nicen trailer…gonna watch this
I really appreciate the series more than the movie…I really can’t feel and understand what the movie is trying to convey to its viewer..It’s more on physical naivety rather than the painter’s motive, idealism, and true ability. It seems loose and void on that.
