Times Online, the U.K based news site, picked out the “50 Biggest Movies of 2009” and guess whose film was near the top of the list?
And who the hell is “Brian”?
Right. Not Rain.
Rain’s Hollywood role in the Wachowskis brother’s “Ninja Assassin” barely made it on the list at 41st. A little higher on the list at 35th is Lee Byung-hun’s (a.k.a. “Brian”) breakout role is “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra.” However, way up the list at 5th was the highly anticipated movie franchise, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” where Daniel Henney has a bit role as “Agent Zero,” a mutant who can kinetically absorb energy.
So which star will rise in Hollywood? Our bet is on Daniel Henney.
Check out the Times Online feature here.

As much as I love Rain, if I have to choose I’d say Daniel Henney! Just thinking of him being in the Wolverine movie makes me shake from the excitement. The movie is going to bada$$!!!

My vote goes to Daniel. For sure he is the one. Time will tell.
I cannot wait for XMen!!
This makes it sound like they picked the movies based on the Asian guys: WRONG.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine has been highly anticipated ever since it’s been announced. I am a bit nervous however, director Bryan Singer was the best (the first 2 movies) and then Brett Ratner went and ruined the third movie…I wonder how this movie will do.
GI Joe…I don’t think anything has to be said, it’s a CLASSIC, and it’s about time a movie for it has come out in recent years…
Ninja Assassin….I can see why it barely made the list, lol
if we know anything about hollywood, its that acting comes second when one can speak english and isn’t half bad looking. Daniel will do fine, but he will still have to work very hard to get another role in hollywood. put it this way, he moved to Korea to act because he could not get work in hollywood – i’m not sure one hollywood role is going to magically fix his problems
rain looks horrible there and i can’t wait for the new XMAN
I don’t really care and I say that I wish them all the best in 2009!
Also, Rain has a hott body but glad he chopped off that hair!!!
@amy
butterface! you should have put brian or daniel pics up there instead!
——
damn, girl you made me spit out the water i was drinking!! that’s too funny!
but shouldn’t it be … butHISface? bwhahahaha actually … his body is kinda ick, too.
I’m sure American’s would fall for Daniel Henney, he’s got it going! I showed my mom his picture and she started freaking out…
I don’t know if that’s an actual image of Rain or a manipulated photo but that crap creeps me out. e_o
ewww why is his veins all popping out like that. it looks kinda gross even though he has a nice body.. maybe bit too muscular.. looks so fake :X
gross.
>> ohhh!! pleeassseee can someone tell Rain..that if you will show some good skin..don’t and again DON’T make a “peace sign”..it’s so hilarious..urgh!
DANIEL HENNEY! DANIEL HENNEY! DANIEL HENNEY!
i like thwm both,,rain and daniel…but who the hell is brian..can you put some picture of him…???
seriously his face look like it’s photoshop to the body….
Well, Daniel does have the best skills in the English language, so it seems likely he will be the most successful of the three.
My bet is on Henney! <3
What the hell is this?
That role is perfect for Daniel Henney. I mean, you don’t need great acting skills to be a mutant killer, you just have to look good when killing people and I think he can pull that off… But I shudder at the thought that this could be the beginning of his foray into American cinema… His acting isn’t exactly up to snuff, imagine the critiscms,’wooden’ or ‘chalkboard’. At least he’s not as gay as other Korean male models… >_<
of course rain !!!! i’m so expecting his ninja assassin .
I pick Daniel. haha
eww what if the hair?
Daniel Henney… I think so too… even if I ain’t a huge fan
i wondering if popseoul were going to diss rain then why did they use his photo? instead of they other actors? i bet they just want popseoul to bet they just want attention from using rain..shame
who’s going to garner more public attention? fact wise, of course RAIN.
NINJA ASSASSIN is his movie, he can proudly say it, not to mention the A-list people behind it.
Americans and the world are going to see the 120minutes of stylist most big budgeted gore bloody martial art movie with Rain’s face for like 95% of it. if it’s doing great, he’s going to get another step for his recognition in hollywood. even if it’s not the movie itself has invited grand attention.
Rain as well put his bet on this movie. he could be very easly decided to take up role in TRANSFORMER 2 since the director, Michael Bay, personaly asked him to star in it during Speed Racer filming and of course it will make better rank for the most anticipated movie in 2009, but he decided not to coz it overleaped with ninja assassin’s filming. it’s to say he’s got a trust from a very well known director there.
Recently, he’s also getting an offer to play a lead role for Leonardo D’caprio next project, but had to turn it down after consulting with Warner’s people. for the record, Leonardo next project is also under Warner Studio.
there’s also another invitation to play a lead role in romantic comedy literature which he has turned down as well under the advice of his US agency as well as Warner’s people.
Daniel? does he have other Hollywood’s movie after X-MEN? no? LBH after GI-JOE? no? with A-list producer/director? no?
well, judging from the reality itself, Rain has took like 2 years ahead compare to Daniel and LBH.
the bright side is, Rain is fairly an unknown asian actor to the world but his movie could make the 50 list, it will be illogical if NA made the top 20 with sooo many super hero successful sequels coming out next years.
so, admit it, isnt that pretty great for someone who is unknown?
hmmm… but that will make Ninja Assassin rank #1 as the most anticipated Hollywood movie with asian actor as the lead, is that so? haha… sounds great enough for me.
no doubt, Rain leads the game… well,, the others arent exactly the players though.
btw, my most anticipated movie in 2009
1. Ninja Assassin
2. Terminator
3. Transformer
4. GI-Joe
5. Friday the 13th
eh? LBH? Where did i heard of that b4? n daniel henney in XMAN? OMIGOSH! Cool! ^^
nice bod, wont hurt watching ninja assassin then
Some one was having a little too much fun photoshopping……..lol
im seriously hanging out for wolverine since like FOREVER!!!
huge fan of hugh jackman! gotta love him! sexiest man alive for 2009! plus he’s just a great family man! even if he is casted agianst nicole kidman in Baz lurhman’s Australia..whom i think shouldnt have casted nicloe..cos i think someone else could have done a better role..but whatever!
cant wait to see wolverine!!!!!!!
The only one that made any freakin’ logical sense was Joana. Well-thought out reply.
Looks like everyone else is squealing because of Daniel Henney’s European looks. Granted, almost 99% of the ppl here are giddy fan-girls of Korean stars so that’s expected… but something smells fishy here.
Do you girls like Henney because he has more European features (naturally, as a Eurasian), while Rain has more ‘traditional’ Korean features?
If that’s the case – aren’t all your comments just an expression of your internalized racism where you see European features as superior?
Why can’t you people love yourselves – strong ethnic features and all? Isn’t Korean beautiful? Isn’t yellow beautiful? Or does it have to be quasi, pseudo-White for you to love Yellow?
Disappointing.
Then again, I can’t say I’m too surprised, since the Korean “Celeb-Factory” literally makes an INSTITUTION out of looking whiter. They just pump out surgically enhanced celebs, one after the other. Nose jobs, eye-jobs, chin-jobs… jesus.
And even if some of them haven’t had work done, they are hand-picked by scouts and recruiters anyway for their Eurasian(ish) looks.
Is it ANY wonder that so many Korean girls aspire to look Eurasian, and also covet a Eurasian look in Asian men?
People are only a product of their environment after all – and if you’re surrounded by a Media Machine that tells you ‘looking white’ is superior and desirable – then you’ll fall in line like a bunch of lemmings and march to their beat, obviously.
And I suppose Korean men are just as guilty.
Seriously… I’m Korean myself, but we all need to have a pow-wow and discuss all this thinly-disguised white-worship, because it’s pretty disturbing.
I really think that the PopSeoul editors should do an informed and intelligent piece on the dangers of internalizing Eurocentric beauty standards, and the self-loathing this can trigger in Asian kids.
This can be especially damanging those in America or in other locaitons far away from an Asian/Korean cultural sphere and ’sense of self’ – the ones in these circumstances invariably end up chasing white boys and white girls… all for the wrong reasons. Not because they love somebody that just happens to be a different color, but (at least partially) because they want to possess that ‘whiteness’ and make it their own – if not directly (which is impossible, since you can’t just become white), then at least indirectly, through a mate.
