First blood and now sacrilege.
Pop act, Jaurim (pron “jah-oo-rim”) must have thought it was “cool” to sample random Islamic music at the beginning of their song, because they are “cool.” However, little did they know (or perhaps didn’t care) that the sampled track has religious significance ? it is the Islamic call to prayer or the “Azan/Adhan/Atan.”
Even so, the call to prayer sounds more magical than Jaurim’s song “Magic Carpet Ride.” The offensive performance was held at the Mnet KM Music Festival on November 15th.
And what is the front woman supposed to be? A princess? puleeze.
Fast forward to 4:55 to watch their performance.

maybe not in purpose, but they need to apologize. there’s nothing wrong bout it, or is it?
i know one korean entertainer who really respect Islam though, and maybe He’s the only asia POPSTAR who has knowledge and respect to other religion.
He said it’s about respecting his fans.
I really really respect him ever since.
i’m not islam, but when i see a celebrity who has respect and care to others, and acknowledge certain group of people, like put aside some of his times to read which is very rare and definitely no need to, i think it makes that person really GREAT.
i remember TOM HANKS once said “what makes people GREAT isnt the Job they’re doing”
Ohh goodie, I think this thread should be aired or something, made into a vid or what? This is becoming something similar to politics.
And to the people that said “STOP ARGUING” why are you here anyway? If you don’t like people arguing then just leave this thread okay?
@thing
Kudos to you (: May I know the entertainer?
^
I was one of the people who said stop arguing.
Because it has turned into a fight, not a healthy debate.
I’m a Muslim too, and kind of sad to see what some people have been writing. Some people are intentionally being offensive and provocative.
All I have to say is please respect each other’s religions.
People who judge others by their religion and race are just narrow minded. I think the angrier we get, the happier they are, so just ignore them. Not everyone (no matter what their religion are -Islam, Christian, Buddhist, Hindu etc-) is an extremist. I get along well with my non-muslim friends =D, and I know a lot of people are too.
Some people are being too racist. Ignore these bunch.
Btw, they already apologized, ok?
We know they didn’t mean to be offensive (unlike some people here =/)
SO CASE CLOSED..
Don’t you see we are getting out of topic here.
I think it’s ok enough for us just to comment about what Jaurim, MKMF producer did wrong. Not discussing about “my religion is like this” and “your religion is like that”. Well, that’s what I think. Am I going to be attacked too?
I agree with others’ suggestion, please close this topic.
This argument doesn’t lead to anything better at all.
I heard it and…. It’s the exact song I heard from a CNN special on Muslim faith. I know Jaurim’s a talented band. But still.. They should have known better.
The more educated, giving, loving you are, the more forgiving, receptive to new and different ideas or the opinions of others you’ll be. You don’t see Christians or other major religions DEMAND for an apology every time they got ridiculed and they’ve been ridiculed way too often; whereas Muslims will hold a gun to your head and threaten to kill you if they think their religion has been “slighted” in any way. Give me a break! I’m a very open-minded person in every sense of the word but I can’t stand extreme Muslims!
Well I’m sure most of you accept Madonna bashing/exploiting Christianity in her music and videos (especially in early career)…so what’s the deal now. I was raised Muslim, and I see no big deal that they used it. But then again, I’m not a practicing Muslim..actually I’m not religious at all. WHatever…it’s not like Jaurim was obviously representing Islam in a bad light. Okay…so what, they learned their lesson. I don’t know much, but I assume the Call to Prayer is not considered music/singing…it’s supposed to be above music.. a higher voice that communicates. Even after knowing that..I’d probably still use it as a sample as an artist…because it’s beautiful sounding too. ANyway..I had no idea that was Jaurim at the end of the performance..I thought it was washed up techno diva of some kind.
hahahahaha, you guys turned this thread to a religions war..!
what the use of all this discussions,
people here are hurting others more than what Jaurim did!!! -.-;;
stop it, since they apologizrd^^
I’m very very disappointed with her-and all people who think that adzan is okay for something like that-,
I was stongly believe that non-moslem will cherish about our faith,
Everyone has human right, especially for religion…
So,this is so sad to know that non-moslem don’t cherish Islam,they even..mock,defame Islam…?
I bet, people who did that ’sin’ must never open Al-Qur’an before…
They only hear something bad and cruel..
People,you wrong…
Michi’s right. No use complaining about it here. It’s not like Jaurim would see this if not by accident. If she does then she would feel guilty unless she dont give a damn.
First off, the only thing really bothering me:
Jaurim = band
Girl = Yuna, singer from Jaurim
Second off: people need to read the comments. The band and Mnet already apologized.
Third off: It’s just like using a sacred Christian prayer or Buddhist prayer in their song. If I heard “HALLOWED BE THY NAME, THY KINGDOM COME, THY WILL BE DONE” randomly, I would just be confused and going “orz?” but it’s not a crime. There are bigger things to get upset over, as said before.
If anything, it’s simply promoting Islam. I am not against Muslims getting offended over it, because I know I get fairly offended over Jesus bashing, but calm down everyone. It’s not like Yuna was saying “Islam sucks LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.”
And like I said, Jaurim made their apology for their mistake, and let’s move on. Complaining and whining about this constantly just makes you petty, regardless of how strongly you feel about the subject.
It’s just frustrating to see people bash each other’s beliefs. No need to force anything down people’s throats. Let’s just move on with our lives already.
BTW ILU YUNA DON’T LET PEOPLE GET YOU DOWN
Jung HyeHoon:
if only there are more Muslims like you!
maybe these whole world wars wouldnt even exist in the 1st place.
no need to apologize. it’s not ur fault anyway.
i was just sharing a background story, so people would know why i didnt get along with Muslims at first.
=======================
kuki:
i wanna say something about indonesia.. its for info only, not for a provocation.
there are a lot of tragedies (in Ambon) that are caused by some Muslims extremist, and to be honest, I don’t like it at all. My friends lost a lot of their family members there.
No, no need to apologize cuz it’s not anybody’s fault, but some victims held a grudge against Muslims because of that.
=======================
100%Fury:
no, i know what im talking about.
im serious. i’ve been studying it with my friends ever since elementary school through the high school.
we went to a Christian school.
even though we studied only so we can pass the class, it’s kinda stuck in our head after awhile.
=======================
other people:
jaurim is not a SHE, it’s a band, damn it!!!!!!
please read the article carefully before started to leave crappy comments. has the article ever mention the word “she”?
and they apologized already! how many times should i repeat this?
to Michi
I totally agree w/ you… we are supposed to comment on this article and not engage in a religion war…
to Jen
there are lot of Muslims out there who are like Jung HyeHoon… but what you said looks like that you’re thinking that Muslims are the cause of the worlds war, and this is totally wrong… if you read the history right, you will find that no Muslim country attacked any other country, but the Muslim countries are always attacked by other countries (Iraq, Afghanistan)… I won’t indulge in details cause I already said that this is not the place for such discussion…
and I think that it was a very ignorant thing from Jaurim to do and Muslims totally deserved that apologizing they offered.
aNoo…who’s Jung HyeHoon eh?hohohohohoho…^^
@ Selva:
no, i was just taking everything from my experience, thats all.
and to tell u the truth, this is the first time I met a nice Muslim like Jung HyeHoon. most Christians (or maybe it was just my family and my friends’ families?) never get along well with Muslims in Indonesia. There are always war. Dont know why.
it was really hard to build church there. and they just burned it down like that. it traumatized me. thats what drove my family to make a quick decision and move to America.
but anyway. lets not talk more about this. they apologized anyway, so case closed. popseoul should remove this soon.
I heard NOTHING disrespectful in this performance. It raised Muslim caterwauling to the higher level of music. They’ll probably use it as an excuse to declare jihad on the group.I’m sick and tired of people who can need apologies for something like this while they accept the killing of women and children as normal.
oh well.. just wanna let some haters know that I have loads of muslim friends and they’re very very nice and friendly and we work together harmoniously.
It’s not like your religion is the best.. I mean, before you offend other religion, by saying they’re terrorist or whatever.. is all follower of your religion always do the right thing ? do they all never make mistakes ? we’re all not perfect so dont judge other… just see the mirror first before you speak…
and im not muslim but i can GUARANTEE you that not all muslim is terrorist or extremist…
I see a lot of blame on the artiste… I don’t thinks she alone made the call… the producers and those on her team had a share in this… pity she has to be the one to do the apology. But really… check your tracks before you use them… especially when they are of foreign languages…
i just feel that its bad or unwise to use religion song/melody for pop songs etc. must be respectful to others religions. not sure if they have apologised but if they did, then should just move on.
i don’t understand with Plot. Religion is a sensitive issue and anybody shouldn’t mock or make fun about it. either Islam or other religious should be respect not make fun of it. i think jaurim should make a research before use adhan.
Word of advice: You should never mess with religions, that’s for sure.
Well, it was unintentional anyway.
Let’s say it’s a huge mistake. Let it off. It’s not like the purposely used the song. ;o
she doesn’t have brain tot hink or what… ??
May God help this poor misguided woman!
I don’t even know what to say. ><
It would be better for the people who are part of producing the show to apologize together with the IGNORANT!!! singer… JAURIM!!!
It should be the responsible of the Awards show for agreeing to have this form of person include a part of the Islamic prayer… HARAM!!!
No offense, but are all the people who made, produced or whatsoever included in the rehearsals KNEW or are educated about the beliefs of others?
I believe that there are Muslims in South Korea, they would react sooner or later regarding this issue and may result to a conflict!!!
Jaurim where is your work ethics!!!
i wonder what her record company said to her…
If they really apologize to the muslims then where’s the proof!!!!!
EVERYONE whos mad at her please read this for a second and take it in with an OPEN mind…
i agree that an artist has to do their homework if they use a song from another culture, religion, or country but she obviously DIDN’T know what she was doing.
For example in Japan, english is cool, no matter WHAT you say. One j-pop artist put a peice of ‘Amazing Grace’ at the beginning of her song at the same time, when the song had nothing to do with it. But the artists who get in trouble and don’t do their research, usually DON’T have the time, or are pressured by the company into rushing their music. Not only that, but wheres the proof that it was all HER fault? Yes they may WRITE their own music but are they a truely FREE artist? For all anyone knows, the record company could still have some control over her, and it probably wasn’t her idea…
Yes she should apologize, and i’m sure she probably already has.. but theres more people at fault here than her. JAURIM is a BAND. all members have a say as what goes into the music.
But remember please, that it was only in THIS performance. And SHES NOT the one in charge of what happens on stage. Coreography, lighting, direction all has to do with a LOT of different people.
Like i said before, it was probably someone pressured into rushing the performance, who said he did his research…when he didn’t.
Everyone here has a right to be mad and upset..but you can’t put everything on her, espicially if she took responsibility for something she probably didn’t do. And that takes a really GREAT person to do something like that…
@ Korean ajusshi
Far worse????? lol you have to be kidding me right?
Crusades? Massacring muslims and jews alike?
read into that please! and the crusades weren’t extremests like the muslim terrorists, they were commanded by the pope and trust me Al-Qaida is not the muslim form of a ‘Pope’, they just terrorists,,,,who happen to be muslims. They are not the muslims state or are they recognized by the muslim state.
Please do more research. I know you won’t though, you will just reply with some comment not backed up with relevant evidence, and because you’re a stupid ajusshi.
Peace
whoa
Im Muslim too, and I agree 100 % that this is offending us even a 4 years old muslim will agree with that.
athan has a sacared meaning and using it in such context is really a way too much
she crossed the line and (i think by now she would has know)so apologizing is a MUST
she have Muslim fans she have to apologize to them especially that alot of muslims are into the korran entertainment industry and like their stars
so why starting the hate?
The massacre in Mumbai just goes to show that extreme muslims/terrorists will resort to killing if they feel “offended” or “disrecpected” in any way, whenever, whereever. Get a grip on life and go live in a world full of your kinds only, purleeze!!!
Ria, I can see u have been blinded by the news. first of all if u watch news from CNN, CNBC, or any other major news broadcast, u won’t find any good news about Muslims, ever. these news stations belongs to non-muslims.why don’t u meet Muslims people in person and not only one but as many as u can and then only u judge…
WOW dat was a really bad choice of intro.. next time try looking up wat some sound or noise or music u think is cool means! to future celebrities!!
PUHhhAHAHA!!!! T-T wow… so this is what ppl were getting angry about? wow…. DBSK & Jewelry seemed to enjoy it. Bing Bang..not too much..
I agree with unhappy!!
Why are the muslims so sensitive??
Why can’t they calm down??
Jaurim is not saying muslims bad!!
Don’t u muslims saying a good thing until it turns to a worst thing!!
That’s all!!!
난 행복하지 않은데!!
to all the stupid people spamming verses of the quran, and demanding apologies. they apologized. now shut up. regardless of how offended you are, your reactions are pathetic. playing victim, using threats, insulting a whole culture, and acting as if you are above that….. i dunno bout islam, but i’m sure the religion taught you better than that. remember one more thing…. this wasn’t broadcast in muslim countries. hence, their lack of research. be reasonable. if you don’t like, then stop leeching on the internet, and watch something else.
To all who thinks she shouldn’t apologized – guess what? Your wrong! ^_^
What would you think if someone makes fun of you? But YOU didn’t know they did it by mistake. Is it okay for them not to say sorry to you? Is it okay for them to hurt you? And since they know they did not mean it, shouldn’t they still apologized for being RUDE by accident?
Think people. =]
P.S- Making fun of religions would get anyone offended.
I’m not sure if they apologized, but a proof of that would be nice.
& using threats is lame.. =.=’ I’m sure most of you are just joking…right?
Oh shut up already! Christianity has been inappropriately ridiculed, made fun of for as long as I can remember and I don’t recall them blowing up people or demanding an apology at every chance they get…Muslims on the other hand will kill in the name of their religion. They will make a mole out of a mountain under any situation. More and more people over the world are getting tired and sick of you fanatic extremists! Get lost!
Muslim (مسلم) is the most retarded religion out there. who gives a damn if their stupid religion is insulted….anybody here ever read the Koran? I guess not otherwise you wouldn’t be saying that she should apologize.
Ridiculous
Hey!!
They had already apologized!!!
So those who want them to apologize just SHUT UP and GET LOST!!!
They did not mean to do that!!!
That’s all!!!
OMG! I feel so offended >.<
oh my god!!!!! why is everyone so against islam??? what did muslims do to deserve all of this??? since the “september tragedy” in the states till now, everyone is just sooooooo against islam…can’t they just leave this religion alone??? GET A LIFE!
stoooopid much!!!!
pabooooo!!!!!!!
ingat kita minat dgn penyanyi dowg, dowg ley senang2 ske hati kutuk agama kita?
aku memang doakan bala yang seberat-beratnya untuk semua manusia jahanam yang hina agama kita nie.
Jaurim is a kind-hearted South Korean band and the last thing they had in mind was to offend Muslims.
It is the essence of hypocrisy to blast Jaurim for not researching the sample when you haven’t researched Jaurim yourself.
