Why didn’t Rain win a MKMF Award?

rain_20081118
Won’t anyone cut this guy some slack?!

You’d think after his 2-year musical comeback, SBS cold-dissing his song and THEN on stage, that he might be rewarded for his efforts, but noooo, he wasn’t.

The 10th Anniversary of the Mnet KM Music Festival could have at least invented an award like, “Most Welcomed Back Artist” or “Best Chicken Breasts” or some other ‘creative” award that they like to invent.

The real reason why Rain did not qualify for an award was because has been out of the pop scene with his Hollywood movie making. Besides, his comeback was timed for October of this year. A bit late to qualify.

Maybe next year! We look forward to more chicken breast flashing from you.

    I DON’T CARE!!
he’s efforts of building back his career in Korea is fine with me,,
awards don’t show the Level of your personality..
for me Rain is till a good foundation of K-pop industry

Although I don’t like him anymore, I was surprised that he didn’t win anything.

Rain didn’t win bc he was the host of that show.

It’d be weird if he did.

  5. 5 Beckbeck November 20, 2008 at 12:42 am

Cause he’s goddamn ugly? Can’t sing? IS NOT the dancing king of Korea? His songs suck?

  6. 6 Brian November 20, 2008 at 12:53 am

Isn’t it strange that some people keep calling him ugly when over and over again other people who see him in person keep calling him good-looking? Strange people with strange ideas that don’t fit reality I suppose. Even people from Hollywood have called him good-looking. I guess he must be good-looking!!!

  7. 7 miki November 20, 2008 at 1:35 am

Did PS hear his opening and closing remarks on the show? He already knew going in that he was ineligible for any awards for reasons already explained by MNet.

He didn’t need to win any awards that night nor have some gimmick like a schoolyard peck onstage to surprise the audience. He just performed. Hope his hoobaes and sunbaes took notes on how ONE person can seize and captivate the audience through charismatic stage presence and ability sing live and dance at the same time…another words, talent.

@ Ya “Because Koreans are obsessed with their soccer team idol groups that consist of thousands of members in one. Capish?”

This line was too funny…and agree.

  8. 8 suga November 20, 2008 at 2:00 am

well he’s comeback hasn’t been a exact success?

  9. 9 lmsandra November 20, 2008 at 2:09 am

It’s too late for him to be entered in this year’s awards but he will be counted in next year’s award. Everyone knows he’s wonderful.

  10. 10 icic November 20, 2008 at 2:20 am

    Agree with miki

  11. 11 Rock n Stoned November 20, 2008 at 2:39 am

    too bad.. D; ,
he’s the best performer in mkmf 2008.
    RAIN ftw!!!

  12. 12 Izumi November 20, 2008 at 2:44 am

Wow… I am very surprised to read PopSeoul having wrote something in such indignation! I think you are indeed a Rainist, ;D

Anyhow… Yeah, he did an amazing job with his performance, but as everyone had already stated, he wasn’t even qualified, so there’s no point in being upset over it, for the album category.

I personally don’t think Rain has outstanding talent; rather, he works immensely hard for what he gets, and that’s what I appreciate most about this man. He himself said that nothing came easy to him in singing or music, since he was basically clueless when he started (as he had no background in music, a vast contradiction to someone like Eru, who has a ultra-famous singer daddy). JYP also mentioned in Rain’s documentary that he saw no talent in him, but saw his fierceness and his craving to work hard for success.

And really, in the entertainment industry, talent eventually gets passed by hard work; most top singers in Korea right now are more hard-workers than really “talented” people, and while a lot of people get really upset and dismayed that the true talents aren’t getting as much limelight, I think it’s also a good work-ethic-success pattern that’s been going on (of course… sleeping with your manager for certain females… I’ll leave that to you to decide if you want to think of that as hard work or not… XD)

DBSK was away for basically 2 years and they got 4 awards…..poor Rain.

  14. 14 gin November 20, 2008 at 3:49 am

i wonder why the people of popseoul insist in criticize rain. mmmm maybe they re jelous abaut his fame or something? i relly don´t know..

  15. 15 rza November 20, 2008 at 4:12 am

How is this possible when DBSK was fully absent in Korea for 2 years? Are they just that good or is it just Rain doesn’t deserve anymore awards because he has a lot of recognition already?

    …that kind of sucks.

  16. 16 tranling November 20, 2008 at 4:45 am

hahaha “best chicken breasts ” LOL , right!!!!
well , i’m not his biggest fan, i always thought that se7en deserves more success than Rain ( sorry fans ) , but the guy worked hard too so i think maybe next year ??? but will he still be around in korea next year or he will be too caught up wif his oh-so-big Hollywood career ???

  17. 17 Izumi November 20, 2008 at 5:37 am

    @ rza:

The TVXQ boys actually pulled a fast one and came back to Korea very infrequently within the 2 years, so that they would technically not count as having been “completely absent”. They released small-scale songs/activities in lieu with “Travel Log”, “Purple Line”, and various activities on SM Town projects.

But yes, on the whole, they were pretty much absent. But the reason why they got the Best Album award while Rain didn’t is pretty clear; Rain missed the deadline by a day, so it’s not really a debatable topic.

If it’s regarding the other awards… Well, I suppose that would come down to fanbase, popularity, respect, loyalty, music… all sorts of things.

  18. 18 Kitsune November 20, 2008 at 5:46 am

    ¬¬
    He didn’t win because
    his comeback was late!
not because he don’t deserve it!

    He wasn’t nominated,
because they closed inscription before than his Album!

    and whatever you said
    RAIN COMEBACK to Korea
    is really great!

  19. 19 jin November 20, 2008 at 6:31 am

  21. 21 tewkewl November 20, 2008 at 7:58 am
