Hyun Bin is losing it

hb_081120

Viewers that is.

During a recent press conference, Hyun Bin, the male lead of KBS’ drama “World’s Within“, confessed that people have voiced their concern over the low viewership of the drama. Fingers are pointing to the poor acting skills of the female lead Song Hye-kyo. And the hype of the comeback of Song Hye-kyo and Hyun Bin has not helped. High expectations generally leads to big letdowns.

Although Hyun Bin stated that he generally does not pay attention to drama ratings since it may affect his acting, he obviously knows what’s going on now.

Poor Hyun Bin. Low viewership usually translates into less fans, which then translates into less popularity, which will then lead to obscurity.

Is this the end for him?

This is a result of all the hype regarding the comebacks of himself and Song Hye-kyo, the female lead.

Unflattering picture. That sucks… I just don’t like the plot. Or the dialogue.

    Or the acting. :p

    aww he disappeared too long.

  7. 7 miu miu November 22, 2008 at 5:51 pm

The low viewership is not surprising to me since Song Hye Kyo cannot act and just rely on her pretty face and….there is abolutely zero chemistry between Song Hye Kyo and Hyun Bin.

  8. 8 HATEJJH November 22, 2008 at 5:54 pm

The acting can not be worst than what’s going on in EoE so it’s more the plot/the drama itself that is the prob.

poor HB, but o well, it’s not like the first time he flopped, other than Samsoon, everything else he did was just not that popular.

  9. 9 yayaya November 22, 2008 at 5:57 pm

evvy, I find the pic very cute. How come he looks younger than his Samshik days?! I’m not really a flannel fan, but it’s THE trend this season.

  10. 10 It's not that bad November 22, 2008 at 6:00 pm

I’ve seen a few episodes of the drama and have decided to continue watching. I think they reason it’s not that popular is because it’s in competition with some serious blockbusters. The chemistry between the two leads is quite cute and its an interesting take on the industry, as it focuses on the directors. Very different from ON AIR.

  11. 11 -love- November 22, 2008 at 6:01 pm

Well, the storyline is just (??). Honestly, I don’t even know what the entire drama is about.
You watch a drama/movie because of the plot, not the actors eh?

  12. 12 tasu November 22, 2008 at 6:03 pm

I feel sorry for him, he doesn’t deserve this…Well maybe another time it will be better. Good luck for him…

  13. 13 mookie November 22, 2008 at 6:15 pm

they should just lease HB to Japan, SHK to all of Asia like China leasing out cute pandas as tokens of friendship where they will garner ooos and aaaahs even if they r just sitting pretty and doing nth.

The low rating is not unexpected though, this drama is not full of predictable cliches, whether u feel for the characters, that’s your preference. I think the ajummas, the core drama watching audience nowadays take a lot of joy in outsmarting the writers as they can predict how each episode down to scenes will be penned out.

and to answer the question: if this is the end of HB?! Sadly to some, no. He has another biggie drama lined up with again a whole country almost of expectations filling up the shoes of JDG.

    Good luck to him then.

  14. 14 oo November 22, 2008 at 6:15 pm

i think it’s unfair the blame is on SHK. actually, it’s always the female leads who get branded as a bad actor/actress. never the oh-so-hot male lead. why is that? people are more critical of pretty females than of males!

  15. 15 mookie November 22, 2008 at 6:24 pm

oo, there is sth called track record, and it’ll take much harder effort to shake off past judgments. It’s not very fair, but once u got a bad rep on sth, it tends to stick unless u blow everybody away.

SHK is natural and she is doing a good job in this drama, but it was not an excellent job with no fault. It’s logical that ppl will still blame some on her.

On the other hand, it’s not a consensus that HB cant act. So it’s also unfair for you to whine about it when he is not doing a failing job.

  16. 16 Dona B. November 22, 2008 at 6:27 pm

Why blame it on SHG? i admit that she isn’t a very good actress but cut the girl some slack. The plot of the story is just not interesting!

  17. 17 bre November 22, 2008 at 6:36 pm

    i think the drama’s cool
    and so is SHK.

  18. 18 fraulein November 22, 2008 at 6:37 pm

I cld be wrong but there are more female netizens than males. And women are harsher critics of their kind.

Both of them are lugging heavy burdens - of Full House and MLSS respectively - so it is natural they attract a lot of brickbats. FH and MLSS were so popular and successful that they are hard acts to beat.

  19. 19 Taejus November 22, 2008 at 6:44 pm

    song hye kyo’s fault.

  20. 20 april November 22, 2008 at 6:49 pm

all actor/actress has experienced low rating drama at least once. its not surprising. i felt sorry for them both. but for hyunbin, only kimsamsoon get high rating.

  21. 21 kiddo November 22, 2008 at 6:51 pm

^ that’s y shk is considered so overrated. Her drama’s high rating has nth to do with her lack of acting ability

    Poor HB!

  22. 22 . November 22, 2008 at 6:52 pm

Pity him.. but its not like his other drama was a hit. only My Lovely Sam-Soon got high rating.

  23. 23 kiddo November 22, 2008 at 6:55 pm

^ True. It perfectly explain it takes 2 to tangle, and only one bad acing job to spoil a drama.

  24. 24 Rin November 22, 2008 at 6:59 pm

song hye kyo can’t act and no offence she’s like a doll, pretty but she seems a bit lost and slow, like she doesn’t pay attention, like puppets. Therefore it’s hard to create chemistry and honestly ‘world’s within’ doesn’t exactly have the best plot >_>

  25. 25 ... November 22, 2008 at 7:06 pm

to begin with, WW is not interesting at all. i knew it since the 1st time i saw the trailer. its so mellow. people want some comedic drama. or, suspend with complicated twist of revenge.
bad choosing of script, i would say.

  26. 26 HATEJJH November 22, 2008 at 7:13 pm

… it depends on how u see it.

Those stuff that u said ppl wanna watch…it’s all very true. It’s the holidays, the economy is not rosy, who wanna watch sth that is mellow and requires u to think? But for an actor, those dramas may not be the most interesting to act in.

Both of them knew this is not a drama for the mass audience, or else SHK will just do FH2 in flowing locks, tight tees, short skirts and dancing 3 bears dance all day and HB will just strut around in colorful suits or naked.

  27. 27 me me November 22, 2008 at 7:20 pm

Hyun Bin and Song are the same; both pretty but can’t act.

  28. 28 jin November 22, 2008 at 7:33 pm

hyunbin can act, but on a differant character maybe.
his acting was great in kimsansoon
i think the drama story it self sux..
you cant do anything about the story you know..

  29. 29 Beez November 22, 2008 at 7:50 pm

    Poor him.
Looks like he’s was about to crying in that picture.

  30. 30 icy November 22, 2008 at 8:12 pm

sometimes, title of the drama alone could catch the attentions of the viewers.they should have thought of something else.its surprising to have low viewership since song hye kyo is one of the most popular actresses and the FULL HOUSE was tremendously a big hit.maybe if she was paired with RAIN again, surely it gets a high rating.how about giving it a try one more time, RAIN n SONG HYE KYO.?

  31. 31 ... November 22, 2008 at 8:18 pm

emm, well, when i think about it, u’re rite.. i think mybe he and shk want to try something different.. its about their own satisfy and do the best they can. and while it may not be a cup of tea for everyone, mybe some minority will very appreciate it.

  34. 34 BKJSuh November 22, 2008 at 9:18 pm

It will be just one of his bad drama. His career won’t be over or anything, he can always pick it up if this drama does terrible.

  35. 35 selva November 22, 2008 at 9:26 pm

cut SHG some slack, will ya?!
it’s not like she’s the worst actress ever, but at least she’s trying… don’t let me start comparing her to ???? in EOE who can’t act (*cough* LYH *cough*)
anyho it’s not the end for HB… it’s just that MNIKSS was so freaking popular w/ very high ratings, so people were expecting too much… the same happened to KSA who was in when it’s at night after MNIKSS and the ratings were embarrasing too.

  36. 36 Vanessaly November 22, 2008 at 9:43 pm

Poor him, i was actually pretty excited about the drama, cause two of my favorite stars are playing in it. But till this day i have not brought myself up into watching IT. I guess the trailer looked kinda dull.

  37. 37 emm.. November 22, 2008 at 10:05 pm

yeah.. let SHK alone. all actor/actress have experienced low rating drama. YEH in vineyard man. HJH too(i love her). KSA in when the nights come. LDH in robber. but it doesn’t mean that it lessen their popularity.

  38. 38 felisshi November 22, 2008 at 10:26 pm

Don’t say that. I still like Hyun Bin inspite of the drama’s lack of sensitivity. I don’t know, but it seems that the drama is going nowhere. Like there is no point to it. I’ve seen only the first few episodes but I got bored. In his other dramas, you can see right away that there is a climax in the story; your mind just go crazy thinking about what would happen next. You’re always anticipating. Whereas this one has no kick. This is just my opinion. I love SHG and HB team, but the story is so-so.

  39. 39 Kaybee November 22, 2008 at 10:32 pm

He is very talented and a good actor who has good looks to match. He will do well no matter what… Good luck! :)

  40. 40 jastinel November 22, 2008 at 11:05 pm

I believe that HB is a good actor and he can portray any role and always did his best. Any news about his movie, I`m very happy?

  41. 41 Maica November 22, 2008 at 11:14 pm

    I think the main problem of TWTLI is the plot…and SHG’s hairstyle…it’s unflattering… :(

He would have another drama right…? The tv version of a movie.

  42. 42 YIn November 22, 2008 at 11:15 pm

    I’ll still watch it =D

  43. 43 Korean Ajusshi November 22, 2008 at 11:24 pm

The drama will be another expensive, overhyped flop by KBS, because it simply sucks. I watched the first two episodes, then stopped.

He’s a great actor and this drama is not going to decrease his popularity! It helps that he’s such a hottie too!

  46. 46 SP November 23, 2008 at 1:00 am

Who cares! One bad drama doesn’t end your life and sometimes, the actors are not to blame about a film or drama that did very badly.

PEOPLE, it’s not always the actor or actress fault!

    Move on!

  47. 47 Shrimp November 23, 2008 at 1:06 am

He’s such a great actor…i guess if only their drama was more like of a kim sam-soonie kinna drama then maybe..just maybe he’ll be hyun bin “the Hyun bin” again…

  48. 48 FRUITY November 23, 2008 at 1:15 am

    i don’t care!!
NO MATTER WHAT YOU SAY!! he is still a good actor, maybe the story has no impact from the stories he has acted on before,, AJA AJA oppa!!

  49. 49 bubbles November 23, 2008 at 1:31 am

being a superstar has its props and drama…deal with it

  50. 50 kaylie November 23, 2008 at 1:42 am

@ emm YEH’s Vineyard Man was competing on the same timeslot as Jumong. Vineyard Man started with low ratings at first, but the ratings kept getting higher every episode…and was able double to get past 10% in ratings, so considering that it was up against Jumong, YEH did pretty well ratings wise for a newbie.
But yeah I agree, that people should cut Song Hye kyo and hyun Bin some slack. Rating is not everything.

  51. 51 HAHAHA November 23, 2008 at 1:58 am

it’s not just Song Hyegyo’s poor acting.. i say both of them are mediocre in acting. plus they’re both very boring.

    Aw.

  53. 53 asianromance November 23, 2008 at 2:18 am

you can’t put it on the shoulders of the actors. it’s just the drama storyline- not catchy enough.

  54. 54 MC November 23, 2008 at 2:55 am

I do not know about SHK lack of acting, but I like the drama. My only problem with this drama is the further I watch it I feel like the story is not heading anywhere.

  55. 55 gracie love November 23, 2008 at 2:59 am

Its SHK. From the outside, her acting seemed fair, on the cue, right on the spot. But there is no “heart”. You don’t feel that in her, with her when she is acting. That’s why it’s hard to watch WW.

  56. 56 jade! November 23, 2008 at 3:04 am

SHK’s acgting is less than stellar. The drama’s storyline…I’m not gonna lie. I got tired of it after the second episode. Which is never a good sign. But I TRIED to stick it out, until about the middle of episode 3, when I really just couldn’t be bothered to keep watching.

  57. 57 juno November 23, 2008 at 4:20 am

I love this drama to bits, but it’s not one that will please the audience. It’s not intended to make for the audience. It’s what the writer want to write about, what the director what to direct and what these young actors want to act in. I, for one, am amazed by it and appreciate it. It’s nice to see a kdrama like this when it’s not trying to kiss up my ass.

  58. 58 juno November 23, 2008 at 4:22 am

Actually the lower the rating the more I like it. It just tells me it’s ‘working’ as in not relenting to the pressure of the masses and change this refreshing drama just to whore in some ratings! Kudos to the crew and everybody working on WW.

  59. 59 ohgeeze. November 23, 2008 at 4:41 am

    Agreed with JUNO up there.
It’s a fresh drama that isn’t cliche whatsoever.
No one’s going to die from cancer.
And Hyunbin and Song Hyekyo are not siblings that fall in love, they’re just living their life.

I don’t know. I’m still watching the drama and I stopped watching East of Eden along with other dramas going along. So maybe it’s just the fact that there are a bunch of other dramas. The hype over East of Eden was huge, and it didn’t do very well in the beginning either.

  60. 60 otto November 23, 2008 at 5:02 am

    oy vey up the nostrils!

it’s true that if you don’t keep up the momentum, it’s hard to regain popularity. but he could have a comeback that just clicks with people. who knows. acting career needs a lot of luck (& promotion.)

like lee byun-hun: once considered too old to attract young korean women but still has his ajumma fans in japan - only needs to strip down naked & act “mean ‘n’ sexy” to regain goodwill in korea again.

  61. 61 otto November 23, 2008 at 5:03 am

“Both of them knew this is not a drama for the mass audience, or else SHK will just do FH2 in flowing locks, tight tees, short skirts and dancing 3 bears dance all day and HB will just strut around in colorful suits or naked.”

    ROFL!!

  62. 62 anni November 23, 2008 at 5:29 am

Yes… Sorry to all the fans, but maybe he really need to be in the less position. the same with KSA
then after a year. less fans, less viewer, less this and that, this two. Hyun Bin and Kim Sun ah will kind of forced to take the my name is kim sam soon 2. ^_^ what a happy time that will be for all the mnikss fans.

  63. 63 jen jen November 23, 2008 at 5:32 am

ehrm no, i have to disagree with you. low viewership does not mean less fans and less popularity. every actor (even the big hollywood ones like angelina jolie and brad pitt) have been in flops every now and then… and it didn’t affect their popularity at all. sometimes even flops lead to new chances for actors. sometimes a drama is unpopular because it’s bad story, productions etc, not because people don’t like an actor. hyun bin will remain to stay popular if he manages to be in more promising dramas/movies in the future.

  64. 64 koreandramalover November 23, 2008 at 5:35 am

i fell bad for Hyun Bi the guy give his all but the rating still low he should know that working with SHK that if she cant look pretty the viewer not going too watch i hope he be alright i fell bad for him

  65. 65 jhonny November 23, 2008 at 5:45 am

i blame the poor rating on SHK bad acting the girl just cant act i cant even get through episode two because of her bad acting and beside what else their to watch if i cant look at her pretty face so i think Hyun BI should not blame himself it not his fault that SHK just bad at act

  66. 66 AntiBoA November 23, 2008 at 5:46 am

Maybe that b*tch should learn to ACT then instead of giving BJ’s to get work, she digust me.

  67. 67 HATEJJH November 23, 2008 at 5:59 am

To be honest, I’m a bit more worried about SHG with this low rating. It is more detrimental to her than HB (imo that is more unfair to her than the negative negative remarks) She has more to lose.

She is the top ticket of the drama, she is the established star, but has not yet convinced the majority she is a real actress. She has a closing window to prove it with her popularity still high enough to catch ppl’s attention. HB is still considered up and coming, to many, he’s talented, but he’s not that popular in Korea. He does have an almost mania following in Japan though. This drama is sold to Avex in record Yens. The Japanese loves his SQ, and WW will suit their taste to a tee. Jdoramas have followings in vastly diff genres, character driven ones like WW is an established solid niche. Kdrama is more contrived in this aspect.

  68. 68 korean November 23, 2008 at 6:05 am

lol i agreed cant believe she stay this long in TV drama maybe she does do what u say to the PD to get the job i for one dont see why the PD would give her a job unless she giving the PD BJ like u say lol

  69. 69 johnny November 23, 2008 at 6:10 am

HATEJJH i dont think SHK care if she does she would have improve in her acting by now i think she like her fan who care only about her look and nothing more that why her acting still this bad

  70. 70 koreandramalover November 23, 2008 at 6:19 am

lol u two are funny SHK giving BJ to get work ha ha but i think the reason she still have job is because of her pretty face she should not have done this drama to begin with but guess she was thinking she might be a good actress but as we can see her drama is flopping very bad she should just stick with her pretty face instead of trying to act

  71. 71 ching November 23, 2008 at 6:33 am

selva if u haven’t watch EOE don’t be such a ass because LYH as improve allot since the drama first start why does SHK fan always try to bring other actress down with their actress just because people saying SHK acting is bad does not give u the right to be a biased fan and bring other actress down with ur

  72. 72 koreandramalover November 23, 2008 at 6:43 am

i agreed miu miu SHK just cant act she only rely on her look and as we all can see her drama is flopping so bad wonder if she will go back to just looking pretty next time she have a drama

  73. 73 mookie November 23, 2008 at 6:45 am

^ ching, I bet selva has watched eoe. I did too. It’s getting soooo annoyingly sick when someone gives an honest critique on your idol LYH, just one word will open a floodgate of crazy frenzy.

I like LYH, but I find her acting lacking in EoE, improved yes, but it’s not good. It’s not her fault though coz those stupid cringing lines and plots in EoE r impossible to act convincingly unless u r used to hamming it up like SSH (it’s not a compliment of his acting either, but he is synonymous with cliches and cheesiness) I’m not a SHK fan, but I find her doing quite well in WW.

  74. 74 otto November 23, 2008 at 6:57 am

the thing is SHK’s role is bigger stretch for her, so she comes off looking worse. i think she tries hard, just not enough to sell the role. it needs like someone 5-10 years older.

should we really worry about her career? after all she’s popular for things other than acting. as long as she doesn’t lose her beauty, and marries into chaebol before that happens, everything’s ok (think kim hee-sun :D )

she also has the john woo war epic coming up. to a large chunk in asia, they love her charisma and beauty 1st and are willing to forgive a lot. i know she’s competitive in china b/c not too many chinese actress her age have the poise and…yes, natural beauty. it’s shallow but that’s the business.

  75. 75 ching November 23, 2008 at 6:58 am

mookie i dont think she did the way she say it sound like she only bring LYH down with her actress so she will be happy i get so sick of SHK fan who is so biased that people saying SHK acting is bad so they will try to bring other actress down with their actress

  76. 76 YOU! November 23, 2008 at 7:01 am

    @koreandramalover, johnny, korean, ching

you ARE the same person. dont u feel shame on yourself for trying to be different person and try to agree with each other?? and what u said is just the same thing over and over too! i know, even if u have point, dont just repeating urself so many times. do u have pride? be shameful on urself. are u 10 years old? coz u seems like one.

  77. 77 otto November 23, 2008 at 7:03 am

as for HB’s career: actors are always more intensely competitive than among actresses, when comparing pure acting ability. it may be very hard for HB to break through his “promising newcomer” mode, because what’s considered “real acting” by the public beyond teen audience, is the raging, showy, “look how i suffer like a macho man” style - which he doesn’t do.

his best bet is to lock into a promising director who forms a partnership with him almost “exclusively”. jo in-sung’s going places because he’s got director yu ha.

then again there’s always hope military service transforms you. so ji-sub was hot in TV but frequently lost out in movie jobs…until now, past 30. there’s a saying that to really mature as good actors, women need to get past 30 (obviously impossible in the beauty/youth-obsessed market), men past 40.

  78. 78 koreandramalover November 23, 2008 at 7:11 am

guess some SHK lover is mad at us that we agreed on the same thing

  79. 79 YOU! November 23, 2008 at 7:14 am

^ lol.. oh please dont pretend and be pitier. u dont have pride huh?? everyone knows. and i can prove it. dont u feel shame, even when ur ’secret’ has blowed off??

  80. 80 joe November 23, 2008 at 7:17 am

lol at that 10 years old kid! :D

  81. 81 mookie November 23, 2008 at 7:23 am

^otto, I agree with most of your post, but as an older fan of HB, I can guarantee he can do that ‘the raging, showy, “look how i suffer like a macho man” style’

He is an interesting actor to follow. His style can be a bit underacting, but he consciously did that to service the role instead of showing off, and I appreciate that in an actor. His characters may not come off as likable and lure audience to the lvl that they will go crazy (for his samshik, most ppl r crazy about the drama and samsoon, and like him on the side as a pet). The same with his character in WW, he’s playing an ordinary PD, his character has nth much going on to wow and he plays it as naturally as he can.

His real breakout role is in Ireland, another low-rated, writer’s drama. If u did not watch that drama intensely (I’ll admit it takes a LOT of effort to labor through), on the surface he played this angelic nicer than nice loving hubby that got his heart torn out by his adulterous wife…but just under the surface he is a selfish chum ‘taking advantage’ of his wife’s dependency on him to bully some love out of her. He was surprisingly explosive in some scenes, so I don’t doubt that he can do it, but he hasn’t got that prefect role yet. I bet for the insiders of the industry, that is the performance that they took notice of him and will continue to milk him roles.

It’s interesting u brought up SJS, because other than Misa, I didnt find him or his dramas that impressive. But he’s absolutely amazing in his movie.

I’m watching the drama and i really really like it. i dont see a problem with the acting but the plot is a bit weird and i think that fact is driving viewers away. Hyun bin wont die just because of this drama, sheesh people. and neither will song hye kyo.

  83. 83 ahuh November 23, 2008 at 7:51 am

Hyun Bin and Song Hye Kyo will be fine after this drama.
They’re both beautiful and popular so they won’t fade away anytime soon.

  84. 84 cutefloatie November 23, 2008 at 8:26 am

Maybe there are just so many other things in the world right now that people stop watching drama

    FOr example…MEEE…and school/finals

HY and SHK will be fine.

  85. 85 Lana November 23, 2008 at 9:11 am

The problem with this drama is:

The leads. I’m sorry, but if you look at both of their careers, they have one thing in common: One hit drama.

For SHK, and I’ve said this before, they loaded Full House with pretty faces and skimped on the script. The writing was horrible and repeatitive, but people didn’t care because you had the (at the time) Super hot Rain, pretty SHK, gorgeous Kim Sung Soo and that other chick whose name I can’t remember. So, who cared? They were all beautiful, but the thing that REALLY carried Full House was Rain’s popularity. He was HUGELY popular at the time, so…the man could’ve vomited in the street and it would’ve been applauded, someway, somehow. So, that really saved SHK and a lot of focus was not on her acting (or, on anyone’s for that matter) ,but, ‘oh, she’s soooo gorgeous!’

For Hyun Bin, without Kim Sun-na, would he really have gotten the attention he did? For all of those saying one actor can’t sink a show, really needs to think about that one. Without Kim Sun-nah, I can’t say that Hyun Bin would have been that popular. She really guided him behind the scenes and showed him HOW to play off of her, not every actress will (or should) do that. His other dramas show that he really needs some um…acting classes.

Really folks, it’s only so many times you can put it all on a script. If every script you get save one (Hyun Bin) is bad, then…maybe you need to go into modeling and stay there or shuffle some people around in your camp, because some one is seriously NOT picking winners!

But in short (ha ha, after writing all of that) They are not strong actors and when you have weak actors as the LEADS, then that script is NOT going to come alive…it’ll just continue to be what it is: Words on a paper. Actors is who/what conveys the story through that screen to the viewer and if you are a bad storyteller, then you are going to see the mediocre response that you’re seeing and hearing on/off the ‘net. Weak lead actors can VERY MUCH tank a show. Very much so.

  86. 86 stra November 23, 2008 at 9:23 am

i dont think SHK’s acting should be blamed for WW’s low ratings. she has done many kdramas in the past that did very well. if her acting is that bad, then her prev dramas should have gotten low ratings too, buy they didnt. ppl should just stop these kinda criticisms.
i have only watched the 1st ep of WW. its sorta like an indie drama. so obviously, its not going to have a mass appeal. i think both HB & SHK are doing a great job and should not be discouraged just becoz of the low ratings.

  87. 87 annee November 23, 2008 at 10:17 am

Lana: shk has had many successful dramas lol in fact, I think this is her first drama flop. Autumn Tale, Guardian Angel, All In, Hotelier etc all had 30%+ ratings

  88. 88 Gloria November 23, 2008 at 10:40 am

i am watching the drama and seriously, I REALLY LIKE IT! i dont know why, maybe because its RIGHT AFTER on air and viewers got tired of watching dramas with the same backdrop, but seriously i honestly like the drama, IT’S GOOD!! unlike all the regular korean dramas, but then maybe because ITS NOT the reg drama thats why ppl dont like it

  89. 89 Cassidy November 23, 2008 at 10:44 am

Same here, I’ve only seen the first two episodes, but it’s been really good so far and I think SHK’s acting is great. Does it really get that bad later?

  90. 90 yehlandia November 23, 2008 at 10:47 am

why do SHK fans always bring other actresses into the equation?

YEH did not “suffer” from low ratings.
KBS even released an article to say that YEH’s “The Vineyard Man” was the only successful mini series to compete with Jumong (averaging 40%), and was the only drama to lift KBS from their mini series slump. To add to this, YEH took on the role, knowing that the drama was going to achieve over the top ratings since Jumong was aleady enjoying its peak.

So don’t go comparing SHK to any korean actress, cos YEH doesn’t deserve to be compared with an actress who’s only surviving for her dolled up face.

    @annee
    autumn tale - understandable
guardian angel - all about kim jong min’s return
all in - it was lee byung hun who carried the series
hotelier - all about song yuna and bae yong jun’s tandem
full house - there’s an ocean full of korean actresses who can look cute, act cute, clean the house and sing 3 bears.

  91. 91 bongee November 23, 2008 at 11:04 am

I am a fan of both SHK and YEH (I also like LYH).

@Yehlandia, what you said is correct, but I don’t think SHK fans would be too happy upon reading that.
@EoE lovers, what does EoE have to do with WW?
and LYH’s acting should not be compared to that of SHK and YEH, because these two are actually great in their crafts.
However, LYH is indeed improving, slowly but steadily.

So, can fans stop comparing their favorite actresses?
This post isn’t even about SHK, it’s about Hyunbin.
We know, SHK is more popular and “worth” more that Hyunbin, which is why she’s getting all the slack.
But I do agree with one thing, the chemistry between the 2 leads is pretty poor.

Eitherway, i’ll be watching WW to the end.

  92. 92 sierra November 23, 2008 at 12:03 pm

    Aww… it’s okay Hyun Bin oppa… I still wuv you… you’re still a hot piece of male and a great actor :)

Stick in there… it will turn around… hopefully…

  93. 93 keikoKK November 23, 2008 at 12:21 pm

i’m currently watching it.. it’s quite good in my pov.. i like it =) and aww hyun bin he looks so good XD

  94. 94 Kolee Vue November 23, 2008 at 12:25 pm

If he stopped, that would suck. He’s a great actor and he has potential to be big, like Lee Byung Hyun.

  95. 95 Alvina November 23, 2008 at 12:45 pm

I don’t understand why everyone considers it to be so bad; I think the drama is actually quite refreshing… sure, they don’t have chemistry… but they’re not supposed to! lol

  96. 96 varms November 23, 2008 at 1:55 pm

The thing about this drama is that it doesn’t generate much hype, there’s no overblown scenes, everything’s so planned or analyzed to the slightest detail. Song Hye Gyo is best when the acting has to be OTT but this drama is in one word, boring. Even the actors themselves don’t look overexcited themselves while promoting this drama or in the promotional stills. Maybe they’re hoping it’ll be a sleeper hit like Alone in Love but it ain’t workin’ here…

  97. 97 haha November 23, 2008 at 2:20 pm

    aww :(
i’m gonna go watch it now!
my poor babies shk+hb forever <3

  98. 98 suga November 23, 2008 at 2:23 pm

like i said before the whole plot/concept is not the most exciting thing out there
guess dramas need more than pretty faces eh

  99. 99 Aaliyah8 November 23, 2008 at 3:42 pm

They just lack the chemistry… & her acting aint really that good either!

  100. 100 otto November 23, 2008 at 4:12 pm

    @ lana,
ROFL the thought of clapping at rain’s vomit…you have a show there. a gross out reality show.

    @ mookie,
so you recommend Ireland? cos of lee na-young’s presence, i thought it was a slow downer like Ruler of Our World (=save it for a rainy day, with your cold and tissues LOL)

i do think it’s too early to say anyone’s career’s over or in trouble. look at people like im chang-jung, kim yun-seok just 5 years ago. who the hell were they? nobody expected they’d grow into the dramatic actors they are now. as long as you have some talent and will work hard, it’s cheesy but — anything’s possible. korean film industry just seems really volatile.

oh and HB looks to have taken a real step FORWARD in his next movie (”i’m happy” or something?) he’s stuck in the asylum, with sol kyung-gu type messy hair and puffy jacket from Oasis, generally out of his mind. he just needs to drop the charming prince s**t & the world’s his oyster :D

p.s. personally i think the prejudice of “explosive = good acting” is very limiting, and of course unfair to actors who underact, try to put the whole story and cast ahead of Personal Showcase.

i agree HB is very nice in his natural touch in “World”. again just growing older, suffering setback and knowing pain in real life, will add a lot to acting. both leads still feel too “squeaky clean” for the roles as they’re written tho.

  101. 101 mookie November 23, 2008 at 5:20 pm

    otto:

on Ireland, actually I do recommend it merely because there r not a lot of its kind out there in kdrama, I just don’t know of anybody personally that liked it tremendously, but all find some bright spots in it, may it be the acting, or some lines or the writing. I don’t like it as a whole, it has a crucial flaw for me as in I am not happy with the directing, I suspected the written script was way more an amazingly poetic prose than what was presented on screen.
It’s a great character study. And also I’ll fault it on my suspicion of under-par directing, LNY AND KMJ came off flat. If you like Ruler of the World, you will find sth in it that will keep you going, I hope.

I do agree ‘explosive = good acting’ is kinda bs. Let me rephrase:
an actor, in a certain scene, blew u away so unexpectedly that u can forget the preceding xxx min of mediocrity/underacting/non-existing plot+character development, u got a lightbulb moment that u r witnessing sth promising, that’s maybe a better description of my opinion of HB’s acting. I wasn’t a fan of HB as an actor in MNIKSS, but I saw sth underneath that ’squeaky clean’ look AND character that stirred my interest in Ireland.

SQ is not really my cup of tea too, but there are scenes sprinkled in there that he did superbly. Overall it did not debunk the ‘pretty/flower’-boy-cant-act prejudice, but it’s there if u open your eyes to notice.

Again, HB and Miss Song r nowhere near bad in WW. Some scenes, yes they do need improvements, but we’re watching a freaking Kdrama. I dont rem one that I can honestly say the acting is immaculate for EVERY character thro 16+ hours.

  102. 102 mookie November 23, 2008 at 5:31 pm

oops I left out sth crucial: Ireland is not a slow downer per se, definitely not bright and sunny, the theme of the show is isolation/loneliness…I think. I actually find the ending quite ‘hopeful’. One thing for certain, I don’t remember one single blatant kdrama cliche.

  103. 103 jen November 23, 2008 at 5:43 pm

yehlandia. what u said about autumn tale, hotelier, all in, etc is only your OPINION.

  104. 104 seniordues November 23, 2008 at 6:11 pm

lol…maybe he’ll star in a movie and everyone will love him again

  105. 105 gia November 23, 2008 at 6:50 pm

    i enjoy alot the series.
    best wish to them

  106. 106 TomatoJuice November 23, 2008 at 9:19 pm

    awww..

  107. 107 Not the actors but the plot... November 23, 2008 at 9:40 pm

SHK and HB acted fine…it’s a problem of the plot…there seems to be no climax.

  108. 108 Rose November 23, 2008 at 10:16 pm

HB is need a good partner(like MNIKSS Kim Suna) acting with him. In MNIKSS he work with Kim Suna have a great chemicty between both of them. Mainly they both acting with HEART.

  109. 109 ethel November 23, 2008 at 11:46 pm

This Kind of news and comments causes suicidal tendencies..
And now you’re asking why suicide cases increases in korea…
That is due to unprofessional criticism from the media..especially those who are in print..like POPSEOUL..
    What YOu GuYs THINK>>>????

  110. 110 Andrea November 24, 2008 at 3:55 am

I have to echo that it’s nobody’s fault, the drama is just too damn boring.

  111. 111 xingyzheng November 24, 2008 at 6:05 am

ummm why are you guys blaming shk? i read one comment and i must hit back lol. in fullhouse, one of the comments was that rain saved shk’s butt. WTF? i didnt even know who the hell rain was back then.
obviously the plot and script has alot to do with the popularity of the show. the actors are good just that “the drama is just too damn boring”. stop blaming the actors.

  112. 112 new November 24, 2008 at 9:06 am

I don’t think SHK or HB are bad actors. I like WW. This drama does not have good plot to follow that is why people don’t like it. Other actors will not be good at this drama either, so I don’t think it fair to blame at SHK or HB.

I don’t know why people so attached to EofE. It bored me, same old stuff.. dreamworld!

  113. 113 anna November 24, 2008 at 12:20 pm

    I love WW
SHG and Hyun Bin did a good job here
This drama really different in every aspect than other Kdrama aired now. I am sure outside Korea this drama will be big hit

  114. 114 Jane. November 24, 2008 at 1:27 pm

Hyun Bin’s a better actor than SSH but SSH is getting the ratings cause the drama just has a better plot, IMO. I watched like 4 episodes of worlds within and I was bored. Song Hye Gyo sucks at acting but I would have kept watching if the plot was at least interesting, because seriously- Lee Yeon Hee is probably worse or equal to SHG.

  115. 115 nina November 24, 2008 at 1:43 pm

I dont think hes a bad actor, and I was looking forward to his new drama. But then I started it and realized the pace and style it was going to be in, and it drew me away. So….. I have no further plans on watching the show. I looove Hyun Bin ~ just not interested it watching a drama that moves at such an unusual pace compared to the average korean drama. Sorry HB!!! Will try whatever you start after this!!! FIGHTING!!!!!!!

  116. 116 selva November 24, 2008 at 1:57 pm

to (ching) I watched EOE… I’m actually in the team subbing EOE… I didn’t bash LYH… I said a fact that she can’t act… and look, I’m not the only one who thinks that… you say she’s improving, and also SHG is improving…

and I’m not a SHK fan… I’m a girl, so I’m more into the male actors LOL (and I’m not even a fan of HB… I will always support my oppa SIG :D ) and surprisingly I’m enjoying the drama Worlds Within.

and I agree w/ (Not the actors but the plot…) that there’s no climax in WW and that’s why people don’t like it and don’t wait for it each weak… but I really like this drama…

and by the way, why don’t you learn some manners before you start talking and saying filthy words?!!!!!

    peace kiddo

  117. 117 bounching November 24, 2008 at 2:26 pm

    @Lana

you have the most points i agree. Full house without rain might be a bomb by itself. it had no story. it was saved by rain’s childlike acting actually.

but, lately, SHK alaways stumble into not so good script, or.. yeah, maybe she’s not good at choosing, or simply lack of something. she’s boring, seriously!!!

  118. 118 lydia November 24, 2008 at 2:30 pm

well idunno but the story line i read from mysoju was quiet boring.they should make it like BAM BAM BAM, but not too BAMMED.good luck

  119. 119 juno November 24, 2008 at 2:44 pm

    Jane.

It depends on what u define as ‘good’ plot. eoe has a lot of plot device, but all r OTT, borderline nonsensical.

Again, for me, I think a lot of real issues and real stuff that will happen in the PD world or everybody’s life is happening in WW. Maybe the realism of it is what bore u and a lot of the audience?! That is understandable. To each its own.

  120. 120 cheryle12 November 24, 2008 at 6:46 pm

i try watching the lastest drama of his but i dont like the plot at all. its boring. but to be honest, i think if their were a different actress and a bit more comedy or intense drama the it would be a bit better to watch. but it all depends.

  121. 121 xx November 24, 2008 at 10:43 pm

mmm sorry but the drama is simply S.Uck

  122. 122 song November 25, 2008 at 12:07 am

    the drama’s just too boring!
He needs a upbeat drama like my lovely sam soon again!

  123. 123 Reebuh November 25, 2008 at 3:47 am

OH NO! What happened? That really stinks!

  124. 124 WW November 25, 2008 at 4:37 am

This is a GREAT drama! I’m loving it.
I dunno what u guys ar talking about saying it stinks/ it’s boring. Yes it doesnt have the usual Kdrama cliches and cliffhangers but it’s soooooooo well writter and well done.

It’s your lost, not mine! lol

  125. 125 LadyIgraine November 25, 2008 at 7:05 am

I don’t think neither of the actor nor the actress had anything to do with it. The drama is a rip off of “On Air.” The PDs and the writers should have thought of a different plot.

  126. 126 Mui November 25, 2008 at 8:02 am

Both of thewm has done their good job. But only the story line is not easy attractive eveybody attention.

The other reason is base on both acting chemist will affect the people watching this drama with get their feeling.

HB in My Name is Kim Sam Soon have a great partner(Kim Sun Ah) she can lead HB quite well.

SHK in Full House is same reason she meet a great partner Rain. In this drama SHK lead Rain is great have have a great grwat Chemist between them.

  127. 127 zoooo November 25, 2008 at 10:23 pm

song hye kyo will always be the best no matter what they say. All of her detractors were just envious of her charm, talent, popularity and beauty that’s why they’re letting her down . They were the ones that actually sucks!!!lol

  128. 128 jessy November 26, 2008 at 5:44 pm

i know that the story line is a little bit too relax n non comedy drama.but i agree with hyun bin..don’t care about the rating.fan can watch it in such many ways.internet n etc..right..so if you want to watch the drama, watch it at mysoju.com..it comes with english subb..

  129. 129 Dory November 28, 2008 at 5:37 am

The drama, the dialogue and chemistry between SHK and HB are real. This story is the reality of all grown-ups in today society. I enjoyed the sleep over, the problems in relationship and their kisses the most. It’s not your typical korean drama. Love it! Love it! Love it!

  130. 130 Moe Moe November 28, 2008 at 4:24 pm

    Hey,

I don’t think because of the actor and actress. Sometimes you can’t blame them if the story is no good or director is not that qualify or something like that.

He is very good in Snow Prince for sure. And also, he has a lot of fans even from oversea countries.

    OK?

Hyunbin, don’t worry too much. You are very good actor for sure.

    Your fan,

    Moe Moe

this show has depth though.. you can actually see the development of characters compared to other typical korean dramas. but i do admit, the storyline is not the kind most people will like, since it’s realistic.

but i like shows with depth.

    i personally feel it’s not anyone’s fault….

I believe that people who have NOT tried or watched a single episode of this serious have no right to criticize it. I’m done with the first 3 episodes and I’m looking forward to finish the whole series. And I’m not biased.

If you’ve only watched the first episode and have given up on finishing it, better think twice and continue watching it. I started to understand the whole “style” / “concept” of this drama from the 2nd episode and onwards. It’s really good!

Low ratings = not any actor’s fault
Low ratings = wrong time of airing
