Ban Ki-moon is not an ajusshi

Bankimoon_081127

He’s a gentleman.

There should be more guys pulling out chairs and opening doors in Korea. But no, we have ajusshi running you over to get out the door…. beeping at you as soon as the traffic light turns green….chasing you down on the expressway and trying to cut you off….opening your car door and randomly slapping you because they thought you had cut them off…..

We need more Ban Ki-moons.

U.N. Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon pulls out a chair for Hollywood star, Nicole Kidman who is the UNIFEM goodwill ambassador for the U.N. Development Fund for Women. Nicole presented the U.N. Secretary-General with list of signatures from some of the 5,066,549 people who signed on to the campaign against women’s violence on November 26th in New York.

    *sigh* i wish i was a vip…

  17. 19 cookiekillaa November 29, 2008 at 12:04 am

Last I checked this was common manners? Are older Koreans really that rude that we need to applause a gentleman pulling out a chair for a lady? *shakes head* “tsk tsk”

  18. 20 Orangekitty November 29, 2008 at 1:01 am

  23. 25 HAHAHA November 29, 2008 at 2:26 am

yeah most korean guys don’t know why they have to open doors for women. they say ‘why?’ seriously.

  24. 26 dbt November 29, 2008 at 2:54 am

    …she’s reallllllllllly tall!

  25. 27 guava November 29, 2008 at 5:02 am

    i love nicole kidman; <3

ban ki moon is cool too. 55+

  26. 28 kprocks89 November 29, 2008 at 5:46 am

    aww, that’s so cute. =P

i know it’s custom for the youth to respect the elderly by giving up their seats for them, but there’s a point when the elderly need to chill the f out. once, when i was falling asleep on the subway in korea, instead of asking me to give up my seat, this grandpa kicked my shin as hard as he could and mumbled a few words. i was like… WTF?! i was dozing off for goodness sake! jeez… chill the f out!

  27. 29 nanshi November 29, 2008 at 8:28 am

excellent. Nicole Kidman makes an appearance on Popseoul. I love her.

  28. 30 irees November 29, 2008 at 10:29 am

Haha, Korean ahjusshis are certainly aggressive.

  29. 31 Latinaliscious November 29, 2008 at 1:13 pm

Indeed Ajusshis sucks, i had suffer all the mistreatment listed above, why do they have to be such caveman???
I am not korean and is disgusting be treated like that, it stains korea image abroad.

  30. 32 kookee November 29, 2008 at 2:07 pm

I didn’t know ajusshis were that violent against strangers. that whole car and slapping a complete stranger and kicking someone just to get a seat is taking it way over board. that goes to say being old doesn’t mean being mature. And Nicole Kidman has a surprisingly thin figure after having a baby. The botox injections are working well for her, too.

  31. 33 NYCgrl November 29, 2008 at 3:07 pm

who is the maker of the dress? Very beautiful. I envy her body though not her face. She botoxed it to death.

  32. 34 Kaybee November 29, 2008 at 7:24 pm

    Gentlemanly gesture.

  33. 35 Feng November 30, 2008 at 2:24 am

man, who deleted my comments. Leave my comments alone.

    She’s so gorgeous…

  34. 36 Anais6/9 November 30, 2008 at 2:51 am

    Yep, I agree w/ Kaybee.
But wait!!!! I see a lot of ahjussi and I don’t offer my seat but they cannot complain……..especially when I am winning in the casino. Lol. Oh man, they’re all over the indian casinos in California. For someone who just gave birth, NK looks fantastic. She easily shed those post natal pounds within a few months.

  35. 37 Anna Bessonova #1 November 30, 2008 at 8:09 am

Ban-Ki Moon was always one of the classier politicians. He’s certainly an improvement over Koffi Anan.

  36. 38 tj November 30, 2008 at 10:10 am

WHAT’s an AJUSSHI? I’m not Korean, so please excuse the question, but I can more or less dedeuce from the comments of the other bloggers.
WHAT I’VE READ ABOUT KOREA & ITS PEOPLE IS, IT IS A NICE, CONSERVATIVE FRIENDLY COUNTRY WHERE PEOPLE ARE READY TO ASSIST YOU OR EXTEND A HELPING HAND IF YOU GET LOST RIDING IN BUSES THOUGH THEY DON’T SPEAK A WORD OF ENGLISH!
I’d like to stay on the POSITIVE SIDE and THE GOOD THAT IS IN PEOPLE.
KOREA HAS A LOT GOING FOR THEM. DIDN’T EVEN KNOW UN SECERETARY GENERAL IS KOREAN AND A PERFECT GENTLEMAN AT THAT PULLING OUT A CHAIR FOR NICOLE KIDMAN.
I’D LIKE TO THINK KOREAN MALES OF THE PRESENT GENERATION EPITOMIZES BAN KI-MOON.
ALL THUMBS UP FOR NICOLE KIDMAN. NOT ONLY DOES SHE LOOK PERFECT IN THAT DRESS, BUT THE CAUSE OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IS REALLY A WORTHWHILE CAUSE.

  37. 39 LadyIgraine November 30, 2008 at 1:31 pm

A real gentlemen indeed…just my guess of course ^_^

  38. 40 R.J. November 30, 2008 at 3:30 pm

    Ban Ki-Moon ftw!

  39. 41 jen jen November 30, 2008 at 6:10 pm

agreed to fraulein… that;s why he i not an usual “uncle”, but diplomat. he’s cool man!

  40. 42 Kittyn December 1, 2008 at 12:44 am

HAha, naww, what a sweet old man. :D

  41. 43 HyAena December 1, 2008 at 9:28 am

tj, calm down. Hands off the caps lock.

First of all, ahjussi is basically a middle-aged man.

Second of all, I lived in Korea for a while, and they are good people who will help if you get lost and don’t wish you ill. However, there are also many people, especially more elderly people, who will shove you out of their way, kick your shins on the subway, and chase you down on the expressway. It comes with the general emphasis on respecting one’s elders. There’s good and bad about everything, anywhere you go.^^

  42. 44 funkeom December 2, 2008 at 2:10 pm

    What a sincere gentleman.

  43. 45 Feng December 2, 2008 at 4:12 pm

Perhaps it is me but doesn’t anyone see something wrong with this picture?

She’s hot, he’s not. He’s bowing to her hotness. If she wasn’t hot, would he do it? Probably not. Then again, this isn’t a very realistic hypothetical situation is it? Non-hot woman wouldn’t get a chance to join UN as whatever ambassador positions there is…

  44. 46 Eunice December 3, 2008 at 7:27 pm

Yes, I so agree. Korean guys… they may be loving to their girlfriends and whatnot… but they need more manners. Oh yes they do.

  45. 47 leeyana December 8, 2008 at 7:22 pm
