Boa climbs on U.S. Billboard charts

Boa_billboard_081204a

Whoa. With all the promotions and recent exposure, even if it’s not A-list was enough for Boa’s U.S. debut track to hit the charts with a running start.

Only 2 weeks on the U.S. Billboard  charts and already Boa’s American debut track has climbed to #37. Not bad. Not bad at all.

this article is proof to those who started to say negative things about her not being successful among other things…

BoA is the best^^ no matter where i would always be her fan

  8. 8 crabapple December 4, 2008 at 4:26 pm

YAY ! for BoA ! already #37 … hmmm I wonder when i’ll be able to listen to her on the radio …

  9. 9 yay! December 4, 2008 at 4:29 pm

  11. 11 centurylight December 4, 2008 at 4:38 pm

    YAY for BoA!!! ^^

    i’m happy for her <3

  12. 12 Se7enFan December 4, 2008 at 4:38 pm

This may be biased but cause she’s a Female she already had a better chance…but I mean she’s cute and short which is a plus. And she can sing, she sounds great, and she can dance…but if she didn’t have the EXPOSURE she wouldn’t be doing not even half of what she’s doing now. Father SM is doing a good job.

  13. 13 Wow December 4, 2008 at 4:41 pm

Woah!! Grats to her and her publicity team XD Hope u get the top 10 ^ ^

  14. 14 owo December 4, 2008 at 4:47 pm

    boa fighting!!!! ^^

  15. 15 yAYboa December 4, 2008 at 4:59 pm

it’s great to see her song on the charts but this is the “Hot Dance Club Play” charts. I do recall some other Korean artist making the top 10 on the hip hop/rnb chart with hardly any promotions. However, once she enters the The Billboard Hot 100, at least within the top 20, I will truly congratulate her. BOA FIGHTING!

  16. 16 uhhello December 4, 2008 at 4:59 pm

lol please there are other Asians who had less promotion than her who hit the #1 and #2 spots before.

    US Billboard Dance/Club charts

    Utada: #1 (2004)
    Mink: #1 (2006)
    S.Blush: #2 (2007)

    This chart is not important.

  17. 17 uhhello December 4, 2008 at 5:00 pm

Mink and S.Blush are both Koreans

  18. 18 Annoyed December 4, 2008 at 5:03 pm

plz sorry to disappoint but this is the hot dance chart not the real hot 100 those two i different from each other

  19. 19 Cindy December 4, 2008 at 5:09 pm

man, what a bunch of whiners. it’s always something, right?

  20. 20 Sima December 4, 2008 at 5:10 pm

Oh man, that chart doesn’t matter, ha! If she makes the hot 100, then you can start celebrating, but she’s not gonna get anywhere near that chart! Like people said before me, other asian acts have easily made that chart, so Boa hasn’t accomplished anything. I’m sure her fans are gonna overreact, but call me when she has actually done something, other than be ignored by the great majority of America.

  21. 21 shoveit December 4, 2008 at 5:14 pm

    it’s not a big accomplishment.

but atleast shes on this chart rather than not being on anything at all.

atleast she’s ahead of se7en. Seriously when is that boy going to officially release his songs? He’s performing them around and has promo parties and stuff but it doesn’t seem like he has officially debuted. I really want both of them succeed even though I’m not one of those crazy fangirl types

And what’s with MIN? shes performing her song too but she hasn’t debuted? by the time she debuts she’s going to have to rerecord the song cause she mentions her age. lol

  22. 22 rockit December 4, 2008 at 5:19 pm

boa go away. be like rain and return to KOREA!

  23. 23 rockit December 4, 2008 at 5:20 pm

and wtf is with her on MTV Iggy saying she has a beaver in her pouch?

  24. 24 candis December 4, 2008 at 5:31 pm

    ^
    lol

  25. 25 Rin December 4, 2008 at 5:35 pm

People such as Se7en, G-Soul and Min should not be compared to BoA because they haven’t officially debuted yet…

I’m glad she’s gotten SOME kind of success but after looking at the others who achieved the same thing, I get worried lol

  26. 26 Alysha December 4, 2008 at 5:49 pm

Hmm someone edited her Wikipedia page saying “Eat You Up” was #1 on the Dance chart. 37 is not 1 :(

I hope she ends up with the same success Shakira has had, after she crossed over into the American industry. Another artist that spoke little to no English and had to learn it within a year.

  27. 27 uhhello December 4, 2008 at 5:53 pm

^ Breakout means.. most potential song to be ENTER the Dance/Club chart.

    lol….

  28. 28 CeeT December 4, 2008 at 6:22 pm

Sorry, but Shakira is in a whole different field compared to Boa. Shakira had a huge hispanic american audience that already knew her, plus she’s totally exciting and firey! Boa is about as interesting as a bowl of oatmeal! Shakira has that awesome, unique flavor that catches peoples attention, like recent successful artists MIA, Lady Gaga, Adele, etc. Boa is just so stale and boring, no appeal at all.

  29. 29 .nodame. December 4, 2008 at 6:35 pm

Koda Kumi had a #1 on this chart. The thing is though, the Hot Dance chart doesn’t actually mean anything. It’s not that big of an accomplishment.

  30. 30 Alysha December 4, 2008 at 6:53 pm

@CeeT: I was just comparing in terms of already having an audience. Shakira makes all of her own music, which is more than I can say for Boa.

  31. 31 TomatoJuice December 4, 2008 at 8:00 pm

    ok..

  32. 32 sierra December 4, 2008 at 8:45 pm

    Nice one…

  33. 33 wondergirlsfan December 4, 2008 at 9:02 pm

    she’s still hitting the chart
    congrats to her though

  34. 34 sticker December 4, 2008 at 9:22 pm

who cares about the dance chart

  35. 35 flea December 4, 2008 at 9:37 pm

it’s #37 on the Hot Dance Club Play charts. I’ll be more impressed if she makes it on the Hot 100

  36. 36 marian December 4, 2008 at 10:08 pm

uhm can anyone remember how many weeks ago it was actually released?

  37. 37 KPOPTV December 4, 2008 at 10:12 pm

Check out my Facebook page for the rap version of eat u up :)

  38. 38 marian December 4, 2008 at 10:14 pm

too bad that it’s not the MAIN U.S. Billboard Chart..

  39. 39 snowflower December 4, 2008 at 10:36 pm

I was wondering how it was so high…
I don’t think it even gets played on the radio >_>

  40. 40 tammy December 5, 2008 at 12:21 am

Like how some other commenters said, # 37 on the dance chart isn’t even that great. Utada Hikaru had #1 on the dance charts in US, and I believe her song placed in the UK dance charts as well. But her english album failed miserably. Utada Hikaru is a native english speaker as well, so poor english skills were not even an issue.

Unless Boa gets better promotions, I don’t think she’ll get very far. Her song is not good enough to succeed without heavy promotion.

  41. 41 R. December 5, 2008 at 12:22 am

this chart is so irrevelant. it means nothing if Boa doesnt make it into the Billboard Hot 100 and I mean the top spots.

  42. 42 yushin013only December 5, 2008 at 12:53 am

yey! she made #37 on the Hot Dance Club Play charts…SO?!

Billboard hot top 100 is the main deal….
she should also have to perform LIVE in a big crowd for album promotions…
and her album should also sell…
and since it was already released,it should be played on the other music channel outside US…(those countries that follow US trend)

it’s a long way to the top BOA…
but i believe she can make the top spot of Hot Dance Club Play chart,no doubt!!

  43. 43 bryan December 5, 2008 at 1:40 am

    yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! u go girl!!!

  44. 44 felisshi December 5, 2008 at 3:12 am

What’s important is she made it. That is step 1.

  45. 45 timelessluv December 5, 2008 at 3:18 am

    that is SO amazing
geez its so greaet idk what else to say bout it.gonna request it on the radio or smth lol

  46. 46 727 December 5, 2008 at 4:21 am

Still a long ways to go. Yeah, it’s not the Top 100, so it really doesn’t mean anything. She doesn’t stand out, her personality and her looks are all so plain. I didn’t really care for her other English release…and even “Eat you up”…I like the beat and it’s catchy, but the words…every time I hear it a cringe. Hell Hyori has a better chance of debuting. At least she could get away with looking hot, since her English sucks.

  47. 47 getoutofmyCOUNTRY December 5, 2008 at 5:37 am

whateverrrrr i still don’t support her in anyway at least not in the US.

  48. 48 Tiffany December 5, 2008 at 7:00 am

Not a huge deal, but better than nothing. At least the fans in the states and Canada are supporting her =) We are going to try to make the television stations play her “Eat You Up” music video. They have a few times, but not enough.

  49. 49 nimo December 5, 2008 at 7:06 am

    way to go BoA!

  50. 50 Amber December 5, 2008 at 7:09 am

WHOOP! She is really awesome. I think shell do well. <3

  51. 51 al December 5, 2008 at 7:19 am

    WOW

  52. 52 tangy December 5, 2008 at 7:51 am

    congrats to boa!
i have yet to here it on the radio but hopefully soon!

she really deserves this…i mean she’s been working since she was what 9?

  53. 53 Sharurotto December 5, 2008 at 8:02 am

“This may be biased but cause she’s a Female she already had a better chance…but I mean she’s cute and short which is a plus. And she can sing, she sounds great, and she can dance…but if she didn’t have the EXPOSURE she wouldn’t be doing not even half of what she’s doing now. Father SM is doing a good job.”

I agree. People are gonna associate her with the typical Asian chick image (submissive and whatnot)…but SM certainly is being smart and putting a lot of time and effort into her…and yeah what’s different about her, just that she’s “exotic” because she’s Korean…but I guess she’s going to feel just fine being known for that.

  54. 54 Raven December 5, 2008 at 8:24 am

    That’s so good!

  55. 55 OMG December 5, 2008 at 8:33 am

Thats kinda weird I mean her song is catchy but I don’t think its popular enough to go on the Billboard charts..it seems kinda weird..SM has connections mannn

  56. 56 MeanPerson December 5, 2008 at 9:25 am

Yawn. Heard this with Utada too. Not too long ago actually.

    BoA = Fail.

  57. 57 irees December 5, 2008 at 9:30 am

Dude, I mean, I love her track. I dance to “Eat U Up” all the time. I have yet to hear it on my radio though. :[

On the bright side, she performed in NY on my birthday. ^^ Too bad I wasn’t there. ToT

  58. 58 ThanksHoney December 5, 2008 at 10:06 am

Not amazing, only time can tell the successs. This is a chart that nobody paids much atetntion

    MESSAGE

  60. 60 jin December 5, 2008 at 10:33 am

    HATERZ SHAAAAAT UP!

    BOA YOU ARE GOD.

    HOT 100 IS COMING!!!!!!!!!!!

  61. 61 Tam December 5, 2008 at 10:36 am

To everyone who says Boa has a better chance because she’s female,
Do you know how many asians and asian-american girls/women have tried to succeed in the american music industry? Lots and the fact that they were female didn’t matter one bit. Wasn’t this the party line when Utada tried? That she was cute and female? I don’t see the interest in Boa and she’s not appealing to non-asians enough to have that full crossover success.

  62. 62 Kim December 5, 2008 at 10:39 am

    @jin,
Did you have your fingers in your ears while you were saying that, lol! I can picture a little teen who doesn’t want to hear the truth about their precious idol!

  63. 63 star_shower December 5, 2008 at 10:45 am

    I congratualte her.
But as others have said, this chart doesn’t really matter. I mean, Koda Kumi got number one on this chart. But does anyone know her? (Other than original fans.)

  64. 64 Enkhuush December 5, 2008 at 11:02 am

    wow good luck

  65. 65 Izumi December 5, 2008 at 11:32 am

Oh yeah, I remember Koda Kumi had that number one on here a long time ago. And I think it was Utada’s “Devil Inside” that had a #1 on here as well, right? (I personally thought “Tippy Toe” or “You Make Me Want to Be a Man” were better dance songs).

I don’t think BoA fans are radically claiming that this is like winning the Nobel Prize or anything. They’re just happy to see her get somewhere ~ progress is progress, even if it’s not success yet.

I’m really excited to see how this will turn out.

  66. 66 lime. December 5, 2008 at 11:39 am

thats not too bad considering that she’s a foreign artist. and that shes still pretty unknown. and that her song has only been on the charts for the last 2 weeks.

  67. 67 .... December 5, 2008 at 11:50 am

It’s a good start atleast, :) but yep there were other artists, and I later realized awhile back even Koda Kumi was on those dance charts around 2002 haha.

  69. 69 .... December 5, 2008 at 12:00 pm

“In 2006 her song “Glory of Life” was released and licensed to Rhythm Zone/King Street Records and remixed by Chris Cox, John Creamer and Stephane K. “Glory of Life” hit the number one position on the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart.”

  70. 70 MeanPerson December 5, 2008 at 12:54 pm

Honestly I’m being completely real here, the ONLY Asian females I can see making some sort of dent in non-acting media in the US, is maybe Tiffany from SNSD, yes yes I know she’s awful, she’s arrogant and stupid but think about it…her voice is pretty decent, nothing special, she is pretty cute, and she speaks fluent english, and she has that attitude that seems to sell so well in the US, it’d be interesting to see her in the US as much as I dislike her she acts very much like the young US celebs.

  71. 71 Tytyty December 5, 2008 at 12:58 pm

^ And if people dislike her.. she’ll just be even more famous. Just like Paris Hilton.

  72. 72 MeanPerson December 5, 2008 at 1:02 pm

    Exactly. rofl

Althought tiffany would never get that bad, but just think about it. people hate paris hilton so much that they literally cannot stop talking about her, it’s the people who HATE her who made her the overrated, overhyped creature that she is. lol

And now this girl is in demand anywhere, and is asked to do all sorts of jobs that pay millions (that she doesn’t need)

Sometimes hate is a good thing, in Korea it doesn’t seem to work so well but if tiffany is hated in the US she might get somewhere alot quicker than boa, lol.

They’re both equally un-talented in singing and dancing, so it wouldn’t be so different, other than the fobby english and the fluent english.

  73. 73 CAPncrunch December 5, 2008 at 1:45 pm

i dont care what the charts say. her song still sucks ass

  74. 74 ZTsogtoo December 5, 2008 at 2:01 pm

Not really bad for Boa ,especially Korean star.Even Boa .

  75. 75 Esske December 5, 2008 at 3:50 pm

OMG This is kind of a shock. I didn’t think North Americans would accept her that well but then again it might be her fan base here that helped a lot so =/

  76. 76 Dovey December 5, 2008 at 4:30 pm

The hair she’s sporting looks kinda nice, although I will never do my hair like that, of course. It wouldn’t suit me.

Also, didn’t Utada make it on the billboard chart too, with her “Devil Inside” song? If so, she didn’t get anywhere else after that, and she definitely has better English skills than BoA does.

  77. 77 Tytyty December 5, 2008 at 5:04 pm

    ^ as uhhello said earlier:

    US Billboard Dance/Club charts:

Utada: #1 (2004) - Japanese American Jpop artist
    Mink: #1 (2006) - Korean (Jpop) artist
    S.Blush: #2 (2007)
    - Korean American girl group

  78. 78 Dona B. December 5, 2008 at 5:37 pm

good for her. but she still has a long way to go to be successful here in the u.s.

  79. 79 Kate December 5, 2008 at 6:27 pm

    screw the haters
    BoA HWAITING~~!!

  80. 80 riki December 5, 2008 at 8:10 pm

so she’s officially a top 40 hit. AWESOME!!! do your thang BoA.
can’t wait to see her performance on mtv.
    what is mtv iggy??

  81. 81 .nodame. December 5, 2008 at 9:11 pm

She’s not actually a top 40 hit, as she hasn’t made it onto the main chart. The chart she is on is only a sub-chart that rarely receives attention.

MTV Iggy is a new site for Chinese, Korean, and Desi music.

  82. 82 sticker December 5, 2008 at 10:31 pm

I think the asians (the people who already know her) are more excited about her america adventure, than the americans themselves. I think they couldn’t care less about some asian popstar that makes music that’s not more of the same. They have dozens of wannabe popstars themselves who make the same kind of music.
I only listened to ‘I eat you up” and “winter love’ of her. And I liked “winter love” style more. Second her face is plain. Sure she looks good. But you know westerns think every asian look the same, and her face is just not distinctive enough I think. I mean even I as an asian can’t tell apart artists because of all the plastic surgery.

  83. 83 nowayyy December 6, 2008 at 9:36 am

    “Hot Dance Club Play”

LMFAO. like that counts for a lot… Yeah she’s “getting big” now but watch her 15 minutes end soon…

  84. 84 myoungjae December 6, 2008 at 2:06 pm

shes not getting big yet. just cuz shes in the top 40 dosnt mean she will get further. lol people are prolly listening just cuz its that asian singer. and ya. she is too plain. she dosnt really bring anything new to the table, except being korean.

  85. 85 Alex December 6, 2008 at 2:55 pm

    DAMN STRAIGHT! thats my girl!

  86. 86 meiria December 6, 2008 at 5:16 pm

    congrats!!!

  87. 87 JustSomeMovies December 6, 2008 at 9:02 pm

How is she doing when it comes to radio airplay. It would be great if she can get some radio station or talk show exposure

  88. 88 JAYc December 7, 2008 at 2:44 pm

That chart means nothing, no one cares about it. I mean…#37 on “Hot Dance Club Play” chart? LOL. She doesn’t stand out from any of the other American artists. Sex and attitude sells in America, and she got none of both. I don’t hate BoA, actually I’ve been a fan of her since her debut, but America is not for you BoA. Go back to Asia where you have success.

  89. 89 00 December 7, 2008 at 2:45 pm

they’re not hating… It’s the truth about the Hot Dance Club Play. It’s nothing really. If she can break into the hot100 and do well, that’ll be something.

  90. 90 Dae December 8, 2008 at 12:41 pm

Hey…i just realized that BoA in the eat u up mv wore same ring like U-know Yunho in mirotic….The U shape ring…it’s cute…in the eat u up u can see the ring on 0:12 and in mirotic just watch yunho’s hand while he’s doing the sexy chin movements…lol…they’re same ring!!

  91. 91 fligs December 8, 2008 at 5:11 pm

cool~ go boa! she’s number 37 all right, but i wonder when people might get to actually know her??? XD

    anyways, more power to her!

  92. 92 MONEY December 11, 2008 at 8:15 am

Uh her song isn’t even on radios yets.
The truth boa has A LOT to learn first about USA.
    Not jus through books.
MONEY IS WAHT BOUGHT HER THIS FAME!

  93. 93 Afromantic December 11, 2008 at 11:29 am

It doesn’t matter about charts. What matters is that we support her aiming for the top. Isn’t that what crappy America is all about? Reaching for that pissant unrealistic American dream…I’m not even asian and I want BoA to fly high in this god-forsaken country. Why can’t you, as her fellow asians, wish her the best as well?

  94. 94 Millie December 11, 2008 at 11:34 am

Lol @ having to support a no talent pop act just because you might be asian.

    That’s a joke right?

    :)

The only thing boa brings to the table as ‘new’ is her race, everything else has been done before, sorry it’s over and just like asia cruz, she’s going to fall back and be forgot, assuming her MV even makes it on TV LOL.

  95. 95 Takeshima December 24, 2008 at 6:16 am

    Here’s the deal.

BoA, Rain and seven (sp? Who cares?) will never be household names.

No South Korean pop singer will be for a very long time, if ever.

That goes for there moronic TV dramas too.

And what the hell is this Korean “fighting” crap. The 2002 World Cup is over! It’s time to move on.

Leave that crap in Korea please

Takeshima is legally owned by Japan.

  96. 96 Takeshima December 24, 2008 at 6:17 am

    That’s “their” dramas btw
