The kiss between Han Chae-young and Kim Hyun-joong in the new drama, “Boys over flowers” raised view ratings to 20% for its 3rd week. This is up from 17.4% from the previous week (as surveyed by TNS Media Korea) and establishes the drama firmly in 2nd place, after MBC’s “East of Eden” (28.2% of viewership).
Han Chae-young who plays a law student and model, is the first love of Yoon Ji-hu, played by Kim Hyun-joong.

And please please this drama is doing huge because Korean people watch it. They want to support this version so that it doesn’t fail. I even think the korean makers wanted to out do the Japanese version (but they don’t know that off characterization is different of “original”)….They failed miserably (qualitywise). They ruined the most important situations which made what HYD (for example “the locked in” scene fell badly. LMAO even Kim-bum-So Eun couple is outshinning the main one. How terrible.

Hmmm in my opinion I actually think the Korean on is better. I like how they followed the plot really closely but still made changes to it.
JD you might be right because asian things has been gaining ground, things like anime, j-rock and recently k-pop. But boys before flowers with it’s weak kisses and super innocent act won’t seem to fly here with teen drama’s such as gossip girl, 90210,and all the mtv reality shows on tv, which happens to do much more then this k-drama. But I’m pretty sure k-pop will make it eventually with acts like big bang and dbsk who I love, but not quite sure if k-dramas will be as big in the U.S .

i dont think this version of HYD is that bad, but i agree that the japanese version had better actors.
for the quality, well except for a few lame special effects (the ducks…-.-) i think the korean version is just as good as the japanese one (locations are really good: the school, the scenes in new caledonia, jun pyo’s place) and way better than the taiwanese version (but well, the TW version was like 10 years ago, so no real competition).
although goo hye sun overacts sometimes, i feel she fits the part of tsukushi (for those who say she’s not pretty enough: makino isn’t suppose to be pretty…and i dont even think GHS is ugly). For the looks, i have to go with the korean version: the F4 look so much better than japanese F4 (japanese F$ was quite…not good looking, except for rui…especially tsukasa, matsumoto jun may be a good actor, but he’s so not looking the part…)
i agree that hyun joong is not as good as oguri shun, but min ho is the perfect tsukasa, he’s quite a good actor in my opinion. And i love kim bum und so eun, they’re really cute, way better than their japanese counterpart (though i also like ken and rainie in the TW version)
oh, and that kiss scene (seohyun-jihoo), that was kind of a terrible kiss, but i guess that’s how asian-drama-kisses are: pressing the lips against each other and stay stiff for like 10 seconds…

I really feel that the Korean BoF is character-assassinating the Makino character. I am not familiar with the manga, so maybe she really is that annoying in the beginning of the comic series, but Inoue Mao did such a great job in showing Makino to be tough and wise and loveable, while Jandi is such a moron here, I really don’t feel she is worthy of the amazing change that she initiates in the Domyoji character. I have to say, I think i agree with JD. As much as BOF is flawed, it isnt worth the harsh judgement. Although there are some characters that over-react, but on the whole, the cast are better actors than the taiwanese. And yes, the baeksang nominations are evidence for that..

@JD…LOL… You know in 1986 Steven Spielberg’s “Color purple” (do you know it?) was nominated for 11 oscars (one of them for best movie). This movie won ZERO award and the oscar of best movie went to “Out of Africa”. Although this example concern Oscar, I am telling you that because (in my view) generally award ceremonies are not so important. I don’t say they are bad But… And I have a problem with Lee Min Ho nomination, because only 6/24 episodes of BOF released, The drama released in 2009 and his acting looks like any other typical arrogant korean hero (so not so special). I mean What the Heck?? I understand Kim Bum nomination for “EOE” or “Moon Geun Young for “the painter of the wind”. Maybe Korean award ceremonies work like that,I don’t know. Anyway I am not impressed by that just suprised.

I watch it and the episode is a korean copy of the one of MG. They added some things.
Concerning the characters.
-Jan-di/ Goo Hye Sun is the same nothing new. Can’t act.
-same with Jun Pyo/lee Min Ho he looks like your typical korean hero. You feel the makers unbalanced the characters in advantage of Jun Pyo.
-Ji Hoo/ KHJ I felt he improved a little actingwise
-the two other F4 are ther too. Nothing new
-same to Jan-Di friend
-the show stealer for me is Jun Pyo sister actress. They did not messed her character “but what the heck with the Gymnastic thing?? So unecessary!). And I like her interractions with every characters. She is very class, she acts well and you feel the Tsubaki vibe through her. This character is the only one well executed in the three live-action versions of HYD.
Jun Pyo trying to act, impulsive, childish, violent , dangerous…I don’t know but The actor doesn’t express it naturally. I found him a bit “constipated”. For example when he runs away of Jan-di, when he shouts at his domestic concerning the horse, when he beats his race teammates…
Plus some things doesn’t make any sense. For example when his sister says to Jan-di “thank you because you make my brother more human, you changed him”. I am sorry but Jun Pyo didn’t change at all! He has never been unhuman!! I feel korean makers do want make him mean, agressive, not easy going at about the middle of a first season. It doesn’t work for me! Then when Ji Hoo and Jun Pyo discusse at the cinema you can’t feel the strong friendship between them! It looks forced! At last you can’t even feel for Jan-di and why they do sooooooooooo much thing for her because the character is not likable at all. No comment about the F4 chemistry which actually doesn’t exist.
The epi had some funny moments and cute moments but it doesn’t make good because of a lot of flaws about the directing/the off characterization/some bad and unconvincing acting/ The horrible soundtrack ect…

Anyway I watched Epi 8. Funny at some parts (especially the scene with Jan-di bro, father and Jun Pyo) but frankly the korean makers killed HYD story. This drama is more and more Goong-Like and it’s So rushed!! For example simple question, since when is Jan-di in love with Jun Pyo?? I fail to understand? Did I miss something??And please change the soundtrack. Terrible LMAO!!
I wonder how will the directors pull the sojiro and Akira story? I mean Sara is the reason why sojiro acts as a playboy. But Kim Bum baby (who is supposed to be a playboy) character not only can’t pull a playboy act but he seems really in love and happy with Ga-Eul (look at the way he looks at Ga-Eul at Episode 7. Then Korean “YO Yo” Akira(supposed to be a teenage plaboy dating old women) looks like a virgin scared teenager. Plus there is a reason which is his weird family. So How will they do concerning this story??
