I was expecting to be wow-ed by the glamorous dresses at the 45th Paeksang Arts Awards on February 27th, but every time I am disappointed. With a few exceptions, the dresses were either too casual, too simple or just plain cheap looking. Whoever their stylists are, they are definitely not “Glam Gods.”
Here’s our take on the red carpet fashions:
Shin Ae. The strapless beige tulle dress cutting straight across her chest only emphasizes her linebacker shoulders and her envious (by Korean standards) pin-sized head. There are so many more flattering necklines out there, it’s just too bad that she had to pick the most unflattering.
Han Ye-seul prefers to wear floaty type dresses, but this lavender piece is a miss. Why? Because the material looks like cheap wrinkly crepe.
So Ji-sub has forgone his usual or should we say, unusual tastes in fashion to stick with the tried and true cool – head to toe black (including shaggy mop)
Yoon Eun-hye. Sure Yoon Eun-hye may looks fabulous in magazine photoshoots but in this saggy blue strapless dress, this is a definite miss. Again, the slight sweetheart neckline that is pressed into and pushing down her boobs while at the same time emphasizing the armpit folds is not flattering. Also, the tulip/mushroom effect of her dress reminds me of a baggy diaper (Don’t ask).
Moon Geun-young looks nearly naked and drowning in this un/structured satin dress. If you look carefully, someone has done a shoddy job on the hem of the dress (probably using double sided tape). Also the heavy black heels are a no. Girl needs to soften her look by letting down her hair.
Son Ye-jin’s jewel toned off-the-shoulder dress is similar to Park Sol-mi and Kim Hyun-jung (see below). We know that she’s probably trying to go after the grecian goddess look, but does she succeed? Hmm….
Lee Joon-ki. Men’s suit jackets have regained their normal lengths (thank goodness!). For a while the lengths were short and looked, well, ridiculous. But now, it seems that the classics are back-and that’s a good thing.
Park Sol-mi follows the footsteps of Son Ye-jin above.
Go Euna wears a canary yellow chiffon dress that emphasizes her only asset- her cleavage and that’s all we can see.
Park Bo-young came out of the jungle with this floaty wild concoction.
Choi Yeojin wears head-to-toe runway Escada (including neck band)
Kim Ji-soo is elegant in this bright red dress.
Joo Ji-hoon sticks to the classics in a bow-tie.
Kim Hyun-jung covers her linebacker shoulders with a halter neckline. But unfortunately not flattering for short-necks.
Jang Geun-suk is cool and deconstructed on the red carpet…maybe so cool that he looks out of place?
Gong Hyo-jin wears the short-in-the-front look better than Yoon Eun-hye (see above), but still, something about the unbalanced hemlines and heavy heels seems inappropriate for the red carpet.
Han Ji-hye is hot pink pretty in another off-the-shoulder satin dress. Everything would have been perfect if her hairstyle was not so severely pulled back.
Kim Min-sun gives a nod to her Korean roots with the hanbok dress (it’s the modified skirt of the hanbok). From certain angles, the shape of the dress looks pretty, but the skin-tone is a miss.
The color of Park Shi-yeon’s emerald green dress is gorgeous, but the heels and the satin canary yellow belt cheapens the outfit. And did she do anything with her hair? Obviously not. A miss.

popseoul, have you ever satisfied? they have done their best, and its not that bad, you didn’t know what to post so you came up with something like this right? i ove what they wore, this is kinda annoying
well, it wouldn’t be fun if popseoul praise all of them. i find it funny. the comments made me smile. but then again, i know nothing about the latest trends and i couldn’t care less if they wore garbage bags to the event. bottomline is, it’s their opinion and they’re entitled to it.
At least they have interesting dresses instead of the all black and white that celebs usually wear..Geez, would it hurt to give a bit of praise? Lmao.

I have to say that I agree with Popseoul on this post…that the men definitely outshined the women this time.
Shinae is gorgeous, but the I think that she would have looked million times better with a different colored dress, the dress matches her skin-tone too much. The same for Han Yesul the dress is gorgeous but the color washes out her skin, it doesn’t make her skin POP!

Kong Hyo jin’s dress is a mess…too busy!
The only dresses that I really like are Kim Jisoo’s and Go Eunna’s the colors are really great and fun, and they totally flatter their figures. I think that I just watch way too much of Stacy and Clinton from what not to wear, they always talk about wearing colors and clothes that flatter you, and not wearing flesh colored clothes, because they wash you out~
Well it may not be to everyone’s taste, but I’m sure their stylist dress them according to what will be stylish for Spring. Anyway they don’t have such awful looks. They are happy vibrant looks appropriate for the changing season. I mean..they want to be fashion-forward…maybe we’ll be seeing more of these bright and skin-tone color palettes this year. Didn’t we see a lot of flesh-color gowns at the academy? But yes…it’s a tricky look that a small population can pull off. Anyway…sometimes it’s crazy what the fashion industry tries to sell to us…maybe potato sacks might be the next craze. And with brilliant marketing and brainwashing, some of us might fall for it. My favorite is Park Shi-yeon’s dress! I love the green, but I especially loved the yellow belt (all green would’ve been boring). Wished it was a shorter dress. I’m really confused about the asymmetrical hemlines –? Not flattering at all.

After looking at photoshoot pictures, I always thought, “OMG, YEH’s body is just wayy to perfect. It can’t be true.”
Now, I see that YEH, too, has a little bit of thick moos and that she isn’t one of those sickly thin girls like Jung Ryeo Won.
Is it just me or has YEH gained a little bit of weight?

Disappoints?? I think the actors and actresses look gorgeous! I’ve never seen so much color before in a korean award show before. Even though there were some repetitive colors (like Shin-ae’s beige but she still looks amazing!) and an I the only one that thinks YEH looks amazing! anyway, the F4 boys look amazing. I love Lee Min Ho even withour his curly hair. My favorite dress is Park Shi-yeon’s.Love the color and the belt is a perfect addition.
Oh and Moon Geun Young looks anerexic. seriously, she needs to fatten up.

Very disappointing! The only look I liked was Han Yeseul’s and Eun Hye only looks fab in the magazines! Here, she looked like a prostitute! What was she thinking?
For me, Kim JiSoo is the winner. Her red dress is perfect for her sexy body; and it looks elegant. She definitely looks like a million bucks (dollars, not won).
Shinae looks absolute gorgeous! The dress isn’t my fav, but I still like it on her! Eun Hye’s boobs look like their going to pop out, I mean I know the girl doesn’t have much, but that’s going a little to far…..and she needs to ditch those hooker heels! The rest are just boring!
I agree. The women here didn’t impress me much. I loved Eun-hye’s make-up and hair, though. The color of her dress is in and the top was nice, but she doesn’t pull it off well. Jang Geun Suk is so weird sometimes.

there is pile of areas to be improved. firstly, why do some wear dresses that don’t even compliment and show who they are but instead restructing it to be a mannequin went wrong. Which is undeniably absurd.
These beautiful ladies should instead try and compliment the dresses by wearing a necklace which doesn’t like like medusa trying to feel like a tibetan but a lively pendant or saphhire. Well, gold or silver long necklace is prett complimenting too. Why go all the way with gold belt and plain earrings when you can dress up with feather-like earrings with glimpse of two tone colours?
The neckline of the dresses have to be just at a level that doesnt reveal too much and definitely not too “hide-and-seek”
The colour of individual skin can be a disadvantge if not properly toned but then again, it’s sometimes unmanageable. So what can be done? Technology is so advance, get a fake tone that is slighter darker or just dress impeccably. Avoide too bland colour dresses like lavender or light pink but instead go with hot pink, a little glitter for EITHER necklace, bracelet, ear rings. That way it is simple yet impressive.
And can’t decide, go for a black dress. You can never go wrong with those. Angelina Jolie has look simple and stunning so why not? Kate Beckinsale wear a black dress with a grey satin layer underneath, how simple an gorgeous oh and with Tiffany’s bracelet/necklace. Very impressive.
The dresses and the men (well jun ki dresses pretty strong and clean, SIMPLE!), there is spaces for improvement. Creativity and simplicity plays an evidently major role so why have designers to dress you up when you can command what you want? Dress for yourself not only to impress.
