Riding on his reputation as director of cult classic, “Old Boy,” Park Chan-wook’s latest thriller, “Thirst” will be competing at the prestigious 62nd Cannes International Film Festival (May 13 to 24th).
Perhaps with all the vampire-themed shows out (Twilight, True Blood etc), a Korean vampire will appeal to wider audiences or better yet, maybe Hollywood will pick it up for another remake.
“Old Boy” is slated for a Hollywood remake starring Will Smith and directed by Steven Spielberg- because the original was obviously not good enough. Although the Americans find the movie too dark, British film journal, Empire acknowledged the film’s greatness by citing it as one of the 500 greatest movies of all time.
The vampire flick, “Thirst,” starring Song Kang-ho and Kim Ok-bin flies into theaters on April 30th. We will be there.

i like to watch this
OLD BOY remake with Will Smith and Steven Spielberg?
I’d watch it!!!!
“The American’s…” what the!
So we know Popseoul is ignorant.
WOW… THATS NICE.!
I still rather see Russell Crowe play the lead actor in Oldboy.
Anywho, I’m definitely seeing this. Park Chan-Wook is brilliant. Many people may not like his genre (The Revenge Trilogy), but his visuals are unquestionably a work of God.
As much as I love his work, I don’t want this movie to win the Cannes because Koreans will go obsessed with their nationalism…again.
kim ok bin looks like an ajumma in that movie poster..
Let’s be honest here; American’s aren’t the only copy cats. Korean entertainment is, in general, a grindhouse. Rarely is there something truly original; even the more ‘original’ things are sometimes taken from Japanese manga. I’ll admit, there are some really great movies that have been made, but Korean music and shows are, though highly entertaining, wholly unoriginal. If I’m not mistaken, copyright lawsuits are the norm, instead of an execption (ex: Hyori Lee’s ‘Get Ya’). Get over yourself, PopSeoul.
