Make way for Coffee Prince, the movie

Coffeeprince_090504 (1)

For all the fans eagerly awaiting more of Coffee Prince, look no further.

With the same title as the drama, “Coffee Prince” – the movie is underway. The script is being written as I write (and is expected to be finished at the end of May). Casting will start in the middle of June and filming will begin in October. No word as to whether Yoon Eun-hye will join the cast. However, with Yoon Eun-hye busy with her new drama, Lady Castle,  Gong Yoo in the army and Lee Eon’s tragic death, an original cast is highly unlikely,

Also, there is another movie adaptation of the Coffee Prince which involves the joint production between Korea-Japan. This movie will be called, “Cafe Seoul” stars Kim Jung-hoon. Directed by Masaharu Take, “Cafe Seoul” will open in theaters sometime this year.

For “Coffee Prince” the movie is expected to stream into theaters in February 2010.

drama was alright but it wasn’t wasn’t all that great to remake into a movie~ hmm…i doubt the movie will be the same without the same cast.

I wasn’t too keen on the drama either and it’s not as great as people may say. Difference of preference.

Anyway, I don’t really care if they re-made it into a movie but I would watch it if Moon Geun Young plays Eun Hye’s part! :D

Without the original cast, there is no reason to make a movie.

    coffe prince was great!

  11. 12 Jane. May 5, 2009 at 3:35 am

Drama was so overrated and the movie will suck..

  12. 13 getmesumrice May 5, 2009 at 4:23 am

No! Don’t make a movie! Why are they squeezing so much out of this. Leave a good drama alone before it starts to have that sucky, recycling factor that forces it down its audience. If you keep pushing the audience, you’ll drive them away because it’s too much. Coffee Prince was actually a mediocre drama that we just grew to like. There was nothing too annoying or spectacular to criticize on, so we just naturally thought, “Ah, this drama’s okay”, and tuned into it.

It’s already enough that until now, they make parodies of it everywhere, but to make a movie out of it, too? There’s a high chance that people would probably not watch it anyway because the original cast isn’t there, and it usually turns out horribly when the original cast doesn’t play.

When they announced this, I thought about Lee Eon’s character. How do you expect people to love a new actor playing that part when Lee Eon played it wonderfully? I think I would feel bitter about that. Leave Coffee Prince alone as it is.

maybe they should leave out Eon’s character as a tribut to him and create another character in his place.. or maybe just leave it blank

the movie was planned long time ago after the success of the drama, way before Gong Yoo going in the army and Eon passing away

dy out of idea.., :0) thats why’ they want to make coffee prince movie’…

    not the original casting?
but let just try watch it first and then give comment..
    maybe they’re better..
    gya..gya..

I like Coffee Prince but a remake in a movie is a mediocre idea. Without the original cast is not Coffee Prince anymore , of course, with the exemption of lee eon. Coffee Prince, the continuation for me is better.. different storyline, plot & sequel but must be played by the major actor from original cast.

Kim Jung-hoon? they gotta be kidding me! i hate that guy!

I’ll bet that people who didn’t think CP was all that great didn’t see it all the way thru.

While it started a little slow, it had a string of episodes w/ great writing/dialogue, believable emotions, good acting and great interaction btwn characters (the humor bits were totally hilarious).

A film version w/ or w/o the original cast likely wouldn’t be as good since it would be impossible to portray all the details of how the various relationships change in just 2 hrs.

    • 22 Oekas August 10, 2009 at 2:13 am

Totally agree with u, it’s definitely not easy to transform all conflicts and emotions in just 2 hours. everything will be push and rush out. with or without original cast i don’t think they will able to bring the atmosphere as same as in the drama.

The reason why people love Coffee Prince so much is because of the very good chemistry between Gong Yoo and Yoon Eun Hye. They portray their characters as if they were real lovers. It’s a drama with so much love. Also with the support of all the cast especially the 3 princes, makes this drama a very funny and exciting drama.

I love Coffee Prince…but if they will make it into a movie without the real cast, it will not be the same. Gong Yoo and Eun Hye makes Coffee Prince famous all over the world so they should give them the role for the movie
    as well.

Coffee Prince totally had a backlash after the success they experienced at the time it aired (it’s human nature to ‘not like’ things that have become extremely popular, ‘liking’ something the masses like makes one feel like a commoner). I saw it recently and LOVED it. Boys Over Flowers is a strong franchise and their success was pretty much expected. That and the casting of cute young men made it a huge hit. I saw BOF before CP and totally forgot that it existed after watching CP. That is not to say I wasn’t entertained by BOF, it was truly entertaining, but totally forgettable. Meanwhile, I still re-watch my favorite CP episodes once in a while.

That said, comparisons bet the movie and the series would be inevitable. I’d still probably check the movie out.

    what? not the original cast…T_T

  26. 29 erikz458 June 12, 2009 at 12:18 am

the movie will not be great as the series if they will change the characters..many fans will be disappointed if other actors portray the characters of choi han kyul and go eun chan..

  27. 30 ramlan almanof July 15, 2009 at 11:02 pm

I love Coffee Prince drama, the vibes between Eun Hye(Go Eun Chan) and Gong Yoo(hoi Hankeol) is totally hillarious. Please dont change the cast because it will totally damage the original story of the drama.
