BoA’s eldest brother is taking baby steps with his music.
As BoA is diving head first into the American music scene, Kwon Soon-hwon, is finally making his way into the general music stream of Korea. The 28 year old sibling’s style is different from his little sister’s mainstream pop hits. Trained as a classical pianist who composes his own music, big brother holds a degree in musical studies from the prestigious Royal Academy of Music in London, and cites world renowned Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto as his role model.
Last year, he set up his own digital music label, “Neo Musica,” through which he produces his own music. Although he strictly distributes his music through the internet, his music garners high rankings in the classical music categories on the popular music streaming websites.

Brothers Kwon Soon-uk (27) & Kwon Soon-hwon (28) at Soon-hwon's wedding
Having just gotten married in early May, Soon-hwon is having an eventful summer as he is just about to make his first concert effort, “Kwon Soon-hwon’s Easy Classic” soon. He will present his own arrangements and feature a dance troupe that will perform to Igor Stravinsky’s 1947 ballet composition “Petrushka.” I imagine that the concert will be an absolute bore and painfully long for those who aren’t interested in classical music, but if you are, it’ll probably be a treat to watch.
Here is a sample of his piano compositions, “Laprimo,” which creates a nostalgic melancholy mood, but not dynamically impressive. The MV, directed by middle child, Kwon Soon-uk, who has produced MVs for a variety of artists, is quite minimalist with a lot of soft lighting and camera effects that don’t distract from the piece. All of the Kwon offspring are in the music business, but doing very different things.
Check out something out of the main-stream:

wow, i really never knew that BoA had siblings?
hope to see BoA’s brother Kwon Soon-Hwon in having success in his music!
hope he could find his way to success!
God Bless!
“but not dynamically impressive” it’s not really fair… It’s just that you don’t really like classical music.
I think it’s good that he’s not doing the same kind of musik as BoA… If it’s a success he could say it wasn’t because of her popularity!
I agree! Popseoul is wrong. Laprimo is a REALLY nice piece! i thought it was wonderful.
WOOOO!(y)
nice!
goodluck! to him . ..
I really love piano :3
And I like this video …. sooo refreshing ^^
the piece and mv reminds me of korean dramas; the broadcasting stations in korean should consider his pieces for their melodramas!
that’s not classical, that’s insipidal
Listen to Erik Satie’s Gymnopedie No.1. This style of music is still considered in the classical genre, contemporary subgenre.
Long popular Gymnopedie is memorable, and Chopin would certainly have given it at least a wink if he’d lived another 40 years, but this kind insipid tripe is built with cliche phrasing heard a zillion times to date, good enough for a TV drama work at best, and won’t be in any repertoire 121 years from now.
i love the music…just my type… Ü
What would be really cool is if Soon-hwon would compose a ballad for BoA and Soon-uk makes the MV
he should compose a happier piece in that case though.
Hmm.. Now I know who that brother who led BoA to SM was. Anyway, I’m liking this piece now.
Brothers look like their dad… but wow… what a great pool of talent all within one family!
They’re like the Korean Von Trapps or something… haha… looking forward to more of their work!
ahhhh, this is lovely~~~~ ^^
how is this “neo”…. it sounds like background music for korean dramas. nothing new.
omg… korean ballad-y pieces are the BEST! just very depressing and hauntingly beautiful ^^
if he wanted to make a bit more dough, he should write for korean serials
he is so ugly!!!! well i guess he will look better once he debut cuz of all the surgery they’ll be doing.
He’s a classical pianist. He’s not going to get plastic for that.
He’s classical for one thing and it’s not like Rain, Seo Tai-ji, MC Mong, Tablo, G-Dragon, Park Jin-young, etc. are good-looking either and yet, they are successful singers/entertainers.
wow her family are like all involved in the music scene !
its amazing how talented her brothers and she is.
Good luck!
I think he and Goo Hye Sun should talk. GHS wrote her novel Tango after listening to Ryuichi Sakamoto and Mr. Kwan’s role model is one and the same. GHS is working on her new age album. They really should talk to see if they can collaborate.
this is some nice music for a change
not the same kpop dance music
not many musicians are releasing non-vocal pieces nowadays
and i’m glad that he’s not relying on his sister to get to fame X]
he kinda looks like the guy from saw.
boa’s brother! adorable~
Scott Baio?
its simple and tranquil, kind of like a mix between Yiruma and Yuhki Kuramoto. A little TOO simple maybe, though.
BOA will perform for SF Pride (Gay Festival) on the main stage on June 27, 2009
http://www.sfpride.org/celeb/mainstage.html
BOA seems to be performing at gay venues a lot…all exposure is better then no exposure in the US entertainment industry
Thats was my point !!!
Pop and rap ( retards attempting at poetry ) sucks !!!
ok, he got all attention because of boa, but is he actually good? just cause his in royal academy that doesn’t mean anything, they accept anyone from abroad to make money but only 2 pianists from UK citizens.
his song has that yiruma-ish feeling. lol
by the way, thats the same girl from SuJu’s Exploration of Human Body [the acting girl.. lol]
