Wondergirls to tour with the Jonas Brothers

wondergirls_jonasbrothers_20090604

JYP truly knows how to do business.

If anybody could have done anything to make the Wondergirls American debut truly successful, they would have done exactly this. In an act of marketing genius, the Wondergirls will be the opening act for Disney’s “The Jonas Brothers.” Posted up on their official website, Wondergirls World, are this summer’s tour dates for the “Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009.”

If the Wondergirls are going to appeal to any American demographic, it is going to be the Disney tween audience who are currently so blindly infatuated with “talents” such as Miley Cyrus, the High School Musical crew, and Demi Lovato. By touting the Wondergirls alongside one of Disney’s biggest cash cows (and probably the one with the most visible musical talent), they are sure to get the exposure they need to make it in America. They fit right in too, with their questionable talent and youthful pretty personas that are ideal to be put on backpacks and pillows to bought at the Disney store. I might be jumping ahead too far, but the next step would be to have their own comedy sitcom on the Disney Channel, who wouldn’t want to watch that?

If you want to see the Wondergirls perform in a US location near you, here are the tour dates.

finally! a korean cross-over that actually has some brains behind it! i’m not the biggest Wonder Girls fan; however, opening for the JB is going to get them a LOT of exposure in America. this almost guarantees that they will be at least a mild success here in the States. a word to the wise, though: they better learn English–and learn it well–because it will be a HUGE turn-off for Americans if they can’t hold a decent conversation. i wish BoA’s management would have thought of this!!

    Yea, JYP ish pretty smart.
No wonder he makes the most money.

  5. 5 ct June 6, 2009 at 5:41 am

i dont think its a good idea.. i like WG, but i dont think their appearance and songs are american taste.. asian-america, yes. but not to non asian.

  6. 7 aya June 6, 2009 at 5:55 am

seriously! are wondergirls that famous now? i mean they mite be in Asia but with jonas brothers? no way! i mean no offense to wondergirls but jonas brothers are way out of their league.

  7. 8 ohno June 6, 2009 at 5:56 am

Touring with disney brats like the Jo bros is nothing to brag about….
Both groups do have one thing in common though….they’re live singing sounds like sh*t!

  8. 11 hm June 6, 2009 at 6:17 am

wait, excuse my ignorance but will they be singing in english???? or in korean…

    • 12 kagero June 6, 2009 at 7:00 am

yes I want to know the answer to your question as well?

Seriously, them singing in Korean probably isn’t going to go to well with the tweeny-bopper audience!

      • 13 coffy June 6, 2009 at 8:26 am

The WGs singing in korean makes ears bleed, how are they gonna deliver the goods in english!? I see the Jonas Bros. are trying to add a little comedy act to the tour, ha!

  9. 14 ainokisu June 6, 2009 at 6:56 am

I’d watch them on Disney! Since they are opening act I can watch them perform w/o listening to Jonas!

  10. 15 Wari June 6, 2009 at 7:36 am

Definitely gonna catch the Atlanta tour date. As much as I can’t stand the Jonas Brothers, this is too good an opportunity to miss seeing the Wondergirls!!

  11. 16 caroline June 6, 2009 at 9:31 am

    ickkyyy

lost my interest in going to jonas brothers concert now.

  12. 17 cherry_o June 6, 2009 at 10:28 am

lame…no offense to fans, i like wonder girls too, but i also know that tweens in the US will definitely NOT enjoy the wonder girls. they are just not….american enough? if that makes any sense…

  13. 18 David June 6, 2009 at 10:38 am

The jonas brothers have a mostly young female fan base, call me stupid, but I just don’t see young horny females having any interest in hot sexy Korean dance troupes. I mean if you had a bunch of teenage boys in the audience, perhaps, just perhaps wondergilrs might get some attention, but I seriously doubt the audience of a jonas brothers concert will be into the Wondergirls. That being said, it is smart of JYP because any exposure is good exposure. So at least they will get some major exposure

    • 19 ornge June 6, 2009 at 7:06 pm

      >any exposure is good exposure

Not necessarily. If JB fans get wind of the fact that most WG fans are JB haters, WG could get booed right out of the joint.

  14. 20 Skimfan June 6, 2009 at 12:45 pm

^Um, hate to break it to ya David, but the WGs are nowhere near hot nor sexy, especially considering you’re talking about their appeal to an american audience. Teenage boys wouldn’t even give them a second glance, except maybe to chuckle at their terrible William Hung-like english and singing.

  15. 21 kimbummie4ever June 6, 2009 at 1:01 pm

    O. M. G. WTHECK?!?! Wondergirls already stink and now they’re touring with the Jonas “Bros”!?!?!?!?!?!?! WHoa…. not a good combo… I mean… lol! Burnin’ Up and then Nobody… hm.

  16. 22 Kimcheese June 6, 2009 at 2:53 pm

OMFG! DID IT SAY BC?! Oh mah gosh please do a concert here instead of an opening WG!! >: And ew to Jona brothers.. they’re honestly not that great or goood.. looking… erm in my opinion =]

  17. 23 EWWWW June 6, 2009 at 4:57 pm

what?? smart move that JYP is making but with the Jonas Brothers? i am not looking forward to this..
    :(
    SHINee fighting!!

  18. 24 hhk June 6, 2009 at 6:37 pm

JB? they’re gay! no no no!!!!!!!

  19. 25 junsutvxq June 7, 2009 at 12:22 am

    Go Go Wonder Girls!
    jonas brothers are CRAP.

  20. 26 thatoness501fangirl June 7, 2009 at 12:53 am

    WTH??
Hell no, they’re gonna be known from the Disney co.?
    With the stupid Jonas Brothers?
    Hell no.
    But go Wonder Girlss!!

  21. 28 Jen June 7, 2009 at 6:51 am

I can’t believe this. The Jonas Brother audience is mostly teen girls. Those girls aren’t likely to become big fans of the Wonder Girls IMO. And no offense, I’m actually quite shocked that they’re opening for the Jonas Brothers in that they are definitely not in the same league as the Jonas Brothers. And if the Wondergirls wear the same outfits/ sport the same styles as they do in Asia. I’m surprised that they were even added, since Jordin Sparks and Honor Society are already performing with the JoBros.

  22. 29 coffy73 June 7, 2009 at 6:55 am

^ It seems right now to be just a big rumor. I haven’t seen any info from the offical Jo Bros. tour website, nor any from reputable news sources (Perez Hilton definitely doesn’t count).

  23. 30 flysx3 June 7, 2009 at 7:27 am

    woooooooooooowwwwww

  24. 31 Fina June 7, 2009 at 11:06 am

Yay! I love the Wonder Girls, and will be very happy for their American success.
But I swear to God, i will freakin die if they become some Disney group!!!!!!!!!Disney stars get soooooo annoying and played out!!!!
Power to ya Girls, but if you get famous under Disney, you might lose a fan…who I really don’t want to be…

  25. 32 Eva June 7, 2009 at 3:48 pm

I never understood the hype about the Wondergirls, but good luck to them. Jonas Brothers are very famous so I’m sure that touring with them should give them some American exposure.

  26. 34 holypalooza June 8, 2009 at 12:09 pm

    wheres that picture from?

  27. 35 Yan June 8, 2009 at 8:58 pm

    I really like WG..
    but i don’t think it’s gonna work..
No offense but : JB is so gay.. D:

  28. 36 alicecinta June 10, 2009 at 2:37 pm

I think it will fail because I think the non-asian speaking fans of jb will be like what the hell are they even singing I am sorry but I think this demographic is too immature to accept a non english singing act( lol I would actually like to see footage I could imagine a bunch of jb fans with confused looks on their faces)

  29. 37 Puppy June 13, 2009 at 6:59 am

WTF!? That’s all i can say. JONAS BROTHER ARE SH*T!!!!!!! LITTLE PIECES O’ SH*T!!! JESUS CHRIST!!! WAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE WONDERGIRLS!? THEY’RE COMPLETE LOSERS! Agreeing to tour with Jonas Bros? I DONT THINK SO!!!!

  30. 38 leah June 16, 2009 at 4:38 am

wonder girls are going to sing in English DUH. why would they sing in korean if no one can understand? to me, Jonas Brothers suck. i’d only go to the concert to see WG even though they are only going to sing 2 songs

  31. 39 anna June 16, 2009 at 5:26 am

    omg… wondergirls?? r u kidding me ?

well they”re popular in korea, but in hollowood? no..

their songs are like kids songs …. even i’m korean,
and i dont like their songs ….

  32. 40 anna June 16, 2009 at 5:28 am

  33. 41 Summer June 16, 2009 at 5:31 am

  34. 42 calvin June 16, 2009 at 3:47 pm

    wow seriosly thats pretty gay
thats another reason why people are going to make fun of us koreans…….

  36. 44 JiYoon June 18, 2009 at 12:00 pm

I would crack up is Wonder Girls ended up hooking up with JB >.< joking!!!!!

  37. 45 Jay June 20, 2009 at 8:59 am

    LoL

Sorry to be a pessimist but no way, are the wonder girls EVER going to make it big in America.

Sure they might appeal to Asian-American’s/Canadian’s.
But no way are they ever going to get the “tweeny disney audience”

  38. 46 USA Mom July 13, 2009 at 12:45 pm

I took my teenage daughter to see the Jonas Brothers, and the response to the Wondergirls was basically confusion. They did sing in English and they were cute, but given that they sang only one song and were so far removed from the genre of the other three acts, I don’t think anyone was quite clear on why they were there. The audience was polite, but not particularly interested. Their costumes would have been more appropriate to an old-time Vegas show than a teen rock concert, and the fact that they were only singers with no musicians was odd in context. The only comments I heard were mild questions like “What was up with those girls in the white dresses?” or “Who are the Wondergirls, anyway?”

    • 47 poiyut July 18, 2009 at 7:44 am

      @USA MOM
Ugh, well at least they got your attention. Who knows, your children or someone elses’ would probably go home and google them after finding out about them. Besides, maybe you should give them a chance.

  39. 48 music-is-turebeats July 27, 2009 at 10:15 am

the wondergirls arnt the best korean singers tho, they are just famous because they got to debut in america, if 2NE1 or SNSD got the do that they would be way more popular!

  40. 49 wondergirls ftw :D August 5, 2009 at 2:01 pm

why the jonas brothers??? wondergirls are way too good to even be compared to them!

  41. 50 wonderboy October 27, 2009 at 6:52 pm

In asia JB isn’t doing well, around 1% of asian like their song the rest don’t care..
