2NE1 heading to America

2ne1_20090612

Don’t worry kiddies, they’re not going to debut there.

2NE1 have barely begun promoting their first digital single, “Fire,” but YG Entertainment isn’t going to let the heat die down with these ladies any time soon. The producers for 2NE1’s next album are planning to visit America to work with the producers of Interscope Records. Apparently, Yang Hyun-suk, head of YG and former Seo Tai-ji & Boys member, is pretty tight with Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine, so when Iovine found out about 2NE1, he was quite impressed how much they sound like something coming out of the states.

Since working with American bigwigs is the hip thing to do these days in Korea, Yang Hyun-suk suggested they collaborate with Interscope and exchange music, so 2NE1 will also be making the trip with the producers to Los Angeles, California sometime between the end of June and the beginning of July.

Interscope Records boast a varied and extensive list of hot blooded acts under their labels, such as Lady GaGa, M.I.A, Pussycat Dolls, and Timbaland to name a few. Your average Korean person on the street likes to listen to more American music than Korean music these days, so there’s no doubt that Yang Hyun-suk hopes to make 2NE1 his home brewed solution for Korea’s thirst for American music.

Although 2NE1’s funk totally mirrors the American style now, let’s hope that these chicks won’t be jocking their style and copying their swagger too much in the future.

Poor Se7en. neglected by YG. YG interested to invest more 2ne1 new album than se7en U.S debut album.

    • 18 olo June 14, 2009 at 12:58 am

nah.. i think it is not that YG neglected se7ven…
most probably it is because of CL and Teddy (producer) thats why interscope is interested in 2ne1…
      (thats what i think so…)

  6. 19 oops June 13, 2009 at 5:47 pm

why they have to go there and work for the album? korea doesn’t have a good work place for them?

    • 20 Lady June 14, 2009 at 1:37 am

Hate to say it but they get more money in the U.S and they won’t have to whore themselves out to all those variety shows.

      • 21 littleladys June 14, 2009 at 9:04 am

hahahaha…. “whore themselves out to all those variety shows.”

it reminds me of SNSD (girls generation) no offense..

Why couldn’t YG hook Se7en up with Interscope?

    • 29 Amee June 14, 2009 at 12:36 am

That is what I was thinking! WTF!

      • 30 Lady June 14, 2009 at 1:35 am

Record companies in the us are looking for more female singers and groups. Also 2Ne1’s music and style is more marketable here and they’re young enough in their careers that they will be able to build a strong fan base without really “staring over”.

    • 32 thesea June 14, 2009 at 9:31 am

sadly but true. This happened to many ex YG artists eg Lexy. If they strongly promote one artist in each time, they tend to neglect their other artists. Se7en’s career really pathetic, he’s getting nowhere in U.S – no news at all in fact he spent two years in U.S trying to debut there and his influence in Asia too become more fade day by day.
I guess he should set up his own new company like Rain and launch fashion line or whatever.

  13. 33 blaznist June 13, 2009 at 10:32 pm

WOW..when will Korea learn, and good they not debuting. Do you see Japanese flocking here? Namie Amuro running to American managers? Hell Fergie worked with Koda Kumi. Dang sorry kpop but stop trying to break the walls, I still support ya though. :)

But it will be a funny day when i see a American SNSD or Morning Musume. muahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ^^

  14. 34 mimi June 13, 2009 at 10:33 pm

They better show their real talents in the US

  16. 37 Grazy June 13, 2009 at 11:34 pm

Thta Park Bomm girl scares me the hell!
Her face doesn’t move a bit!

    • 38 Lady June 14, 2009 at 1:31 am

I like Bommie but I think she had a bit too much Botox.

      • 39 kmusiclovah June 14, 2009 at 3:00 am

she never had a botox!! shes always been like that, its just that there are more people watching her now and didn’t know about it.

    • 40 lalala June 14, 2009 at 4:02 am

yeah but shes always been like that, thats why she got rejectedfrom her auditions years ago, or so i hear, but her voice is amazing! u can find her audition vid on youtube :)

      • 41 littleladys June 14, 2009 at 9:05 am

she auditioned for YG multiple times.. so many times until they accepted her.. she has such strong determination..

  17. 42 smiley June 14, 2009 at 1:08 am

    congrats 2ne1!!! :)

  18. 43 Lady June 14, 2009 at 1:30 am

2NE1 doesn’t mirror American style. Their music sounds more like Reggaeton which is a mix of Reggae and Hip Hop with english and Spanish lyrics.

People here in the U.S are looking for new and fresh sounds like 2NE1. I think they’ll do great here. Koreans need to support them and not try to hold them back or diss them because they want to expand as artist.

    • 44 coffy73 June 14, 2009 at 4:35 am

Sorry to burst your imaginary bubble, but there’s nothing new or fresh about 2NE1. Reggaeton has been in America for a long time with artists like Don Omar and Daddy Yankee getting popular in the mainstream. You think I or others want to hear some manufactured korean group without english skills do their terrible version of reggaeton, pop, r&b, or whatever they try to do!? Step away from mainstream radio for a minute and you’ll discover lots of fresh music in america. Mimicking american music is what most korean groups do and 2NE1 is no different.

      • 45 BoomBoomPow June 14, 2009 at 9:09 am

        agreed

      • 46 anotherdatewithdeath June 14, 2009 at 10:29 pm

Hmm agreed but you have to admit the most suitable one for American tastes among all the popular idol groups for now would be 2NE1. Can you imagine SNSD or Super Junior debuting here?

      • 47 Aurora August 31, 2009 at 12:00 pm

For you information, 2NE1 does have english skills. Park Bom went to school and attended Berkely for a while and CL travelled around a lot because of her dad, and she actually know French, Japanese, Korean, and ENGLISH! Dara grew up in the Phillipines and their language are a mix of English, Spainish, and others, so she also have english skills. Please do a little more reserch before accusing them of having no skills.

BTW, one of their producers for their first mini-album is Teddy Park. He grew up in Korea, then attended high school in America. So he’s fluent in both Korean and ENGLISH.

        • 48 CandyGirl89 August 31, 2009 at 12:07 pm

for your info it dont matter what english skills they got. their singing is lame. therefore they cant make it anyway. thanks :D

  19. 49 yunjae-thelove; June 14, 2009 at 2:29 am

    • 59 sweetboxSmiley June 14, 2009 at 5:54 am

what [lalala] said is true…if you don’t like 2ne1, then don’t listen to their music and just leave them alone…damn, you are such a hater >.<

    • 60 anotherdatewithdeath June 14, 2009 at 10:31 pm

so what are you doing here?

  22. 61 Amber June 14, 2009 at 4:39 am

GO 2NE1! Yeah. This sounds really good. Hope it all turns out.

  23. 62 Guavimoto June 14, 2009 at 5:38 am

    I guess their outfits are supposed to be very “fashionable”, but considering the subjectivity of fashion, I must say their clothes just make me dizzy @_@;;

Anyhow, it must be nice to have huge connections…

  24. 63 rellalove June 14, 2009 at 7:48 am

    Congrats to those biotches! jk
    They know they’re hot.

  25. 64 joelib June 14, 2009 at 8:43 am

  26. 70 lol June 14, 2009 at 11:46 am

I think if u guys hate those why would u comment this page??

    • 71 dstorted_out June 15, 2009 at 4:02 am

it can’t be helped. every thread you browse there’ll always be negative criticisms. stars always have fans and co-existing with them are detractors. it’s inevitable, you can say that a person is popular if behind him/her there’s both. anyways i always thought that PESSIMISTS are TOOLS who needs to get have a life ROFL cause HATING is not that healthy, they should worry about their health instead LMAO not that i care.

this is a big break for 2ne1 the girls deserve it! for US FANS let’s continue to support 2ne1 and for the PESSIMISTS go ahead and HATE all you want it’ll ACCELERATE your AGING process. JOY! haha (^^,)

      • 72 sweetboxSmiley June 15, 2009 at 1:02 pm

haha….love your comment….FANS OF 2NE1, PLEASE KEEP ON SUPPORTING THEM NO MATTER WHAT THEY SING, DRESS LIKE OR ACT LIKE-AND IGNORE THE HATERS OF 2NE1 CUZ THEY ARE JEALOUS THAT 2NE1 IS BETTER THEN their FAVORITE GIRL BANDS….OR THEY JUST DON’T HAVE A LIFE, AND JUST PUT UP NEGATIVE COMMENTS EVERYWHERE….WHATEVER!

        2NE1 AALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!

  27. 73 lol June 14, 2009 at 11:46 am

    • 78 dstorted_out June 17, 2009 at 6:37 pm

yeah right! that\’s pretty old stuff, if you\’re goin\’ to dig their dirt atleast come up with something new. ur so outdated! rofl

  32. 79 Puppy June 15, 2009 at 9:59 am

ok? seriously, 2NE1 will NOT SURVIVE in America. Korea, most definetly but America?? GIV ME A BREAK!!!! They only haz good eng in songs, but that doesn’t count in the real world. lmao… i think 2NE1 is fine in korea. YG is just tryin to hard to get money.

  33. 80 yuli June 15, 2009 at 2:51 pm

i’m not really into them but *wishing them well*

  34. 81 La_Selva June 15, 2009 at 11:56 pm

How would you be able to tell that they mirror American style? They’ve only beenout for a month or two!

    Sitll, I guess that’s a good thing.

Although they shouldnt be looked at just because they have an American style. The American style is getting abit old. Techno beats, cheesy lyrics, and computerized voices is almost out. I’m American myself and I don’t enjoy that stuff anymnore. It’s loosing orginality.

Good luck to them though! If they ever try to break out in America, which I’m sure they will (like every other Korean musician it seems) they need to wait a bit more and further develop their own style. Their cute, interesting, and new…they just need one more thing to make them stick out.

  35. 82 Noelani June 16, 2009 at 12:08 am

Doesn’t Big Bang have a pretty “American” sound too? Esp. Tae-Yang? Why aren’t they going on this trip?

  36. 83 Tayla June 16, 2009 at 9:42 pm

actually 2NE1 is the only kpop group and maybe se7en but sadly theres no new update on him..but anyways back to 2ne1 they do seem closer to the american style of something new and interesting and theyre music is something entering that you can play at parties and clubs. in reality though right now i dont really think the american industry is ready for the koreans and their type of music style it just doesnt necessarily fit in to the popular music being played on the radio and MOST and im not say all but alot of the koreans that make songs in english have either bad pronunciation or their accent is to heavy/annoying which turns people of while listening to the english version of the song. the group Big Bang their pretty good and usually im able to understand what theyre saying in their song when they speak english *mainly GD i honestly never have a clue to what T.O.P be saying smetimes* but i think k-pop singers and their companies just need to give it some TIME (thats where alot of them mess up on) until they let their singers debut here in america just because ur a MEGA star over in asia doesnt mean the same is gonna happen to you here in the states. also something else the companies MUST have the groups that want to debut here speak fluent english and also getting the groups well known here first is also a big thing like advertising the singer/singers in other states other then WA,CA, and NY -sometimes TX- i mean for real some us other states wanna see some of u k-pop singers.

**also their style reminds me alot of the group from the show ABDC Fanny Pack (previous season not this season)**

  37. 84 sophie June 17, 2009 at 7:42 am

i hope the succeed in there music.^^
