i’m sorta sad. i was really hoping for something that wowed me. and yeah… the only part that i was groovin. there is too much music and too many sincere musicians in the US for these women to succeed in this way… i dunno. dude i’m totally sad i was excited for somethign good…

I think Wonder Girls made Hugh mistake!and

This is a Korean song and they should sing it in Korean. If American people like it they will learn to speak Korean. They will be more curious. It sounds terrible!

korean ver. is so much better, it soumds like she’s saying “right next to you is where i need to pee”.

  3. 6 coffy73 June 27, 2009 at 10:27 am

The amazing thing about this song is that this is the result after all the editing and polishing done to it! It’s still terrible after all that!

  4. 7 seoulpoppers June 27, 2009 at 10:38 am

    it’s ok
so hee sounds awful in her first part. i don’t understand a word she said.

they could of sounded so much better in a couple of months or a year. whats the rush

  7. 11 vicka June 27, 2009 at 11:47 am

they shouldve made a new concept and not recycle something that was actually good at first.
i’m a fan but honestly, this was disappointing. :(

  8. 12 BiBi June 27, 2009 at 12:16 pm

right there with you guys… was expecting SO much better!

Especial since JYP totally speaks english and should know what it should really sound like…

  9. 13 Hew June 27, 2009 at 12:30 pm

Not gonna lie that it was just average. Nothing much amazing, but just okay. That’s it. Well at the very least, mediocre even.
I support the Wondergirls’ debut in America despite being not much of a fan–I’m just a casual listener of their songs–because what we really need are Asian singers in the top of the Billboard charts. And I applaud JYP for taking the chance to go beyond than just Korean stardom but a quest to be American superstars as well.
But honestly, I don’t think their debut song would cut it. Nobody translated in English lacks the oomph the original Korean version has.
Many other people mentioned it would have been better if JYP created original material for them instead of having Nobody translated instead. And I agree.
Then again, Wondergirls is riding the bandwagon of the Disney fame among preteens and teenybopper fans along with the JoBros, so anything’s possible. Honestly, most Americans don’t really care about the lyrics, but I admit they might get a lot of flak with their accent.
That aside, I’m still hopeful they will succeed since this will only lay the steps for other Asian stars to follow.

    • 17 skimfan June 27, 2009 at 4:17 pm

I don’t think the WGs are laying any kind of path for future asian music stars in america. If anything, those truly talented asian artists out there will probably want to steer clear of any association or resemblence to the WGs and what they represent. The WGs are bubblegum pop at its lowest. They have no vocal talent ,dancing talent, or anything; purely manufactured sugary pop. Charice is the type that can lay a respectable groundwork for other, serious asian artists. People hear her and don’t care if she’s asian or anything, that’s how it’s supposed to be with music.

      • 18 Lin June 27, 2009 at 5:33 pm

        Yes I agree with you.

Somehow I think they’re kind of ‘overrated’. They did not surprise us with the Korean-English version of ‘Nobody’. They should record new songs, instead of singing ‘Nobody’ over and over again with different versions.

      • 19 anotherdatewithdeath June 28, 2009 at 1:35 pm

But they are already laying a path just by having an American debut here.

Flop or not, only time will tell, but you can’t deny that the Wondergirls are already laying the groundwork for future Asian artists to come. Like what BoA and Utada are doing now.

And seriously, talent is just NOT the only factor needed to break through the Billboard charts. There are already many talented artists in America but they’re not household names for the simple fact they don’t have the right marketing concept. Looks and images play a role, otherwise, we would never see the light of Paris Hilton’s ’singing’ career, or Heidi Montag’s or Soulja Boy’s.

It’s a sad fact, but face it, the music industry today just can’t survive on talent alone, they need concept and style. Not that I am saying that talent is only second to looks–in fact, talent is better appreciated in Hollywood than in Kpop–but to say that the only thing a person needs to succeed in America is talent is plain rubbish. Because there are hundreds more performers talented than the mainstream artists we see today but they’re not getting the limelight due to lack of recognition.

It’s easy to dismiss the Wondergirls’ American debut and perhaps rightly so, but I think JYP made a very smart marketing move by hitching his bandwagon with Disney stars. However crappy Disney’s music might be, the scores of sales Hannah Montana and JoBros still make should tell you how much money they generate in actuality.

And do you really think Charice would have been noticed in America at all if it weren’t for her exposure with Oprah and Ellen Degeneres’ shows? Not a chance, believe me.

        • 20 Eryck August 4, 2009 at 1:31 pm

You’re right, Charice would’ve never gotten noticed in America, BUT Korea did (StarKing), and then America did (Ellen Show, Oprah, Good Morning America, etc.) THEN Italy & the Netherlands did (ti lascio una canzone & a futbol game in the Netherlands). All it was, was a simple YOUTUBE video from her, even when there were videos about her when she competed in singing competitions in the Philippines, the one that caught the eyes of many was a simple video of her singing. So, you’re right, nobody would’ve noticed her at all, BUT she deserved to be noticed, and that’s why she’s done MORE THAN ANY OTHER ASIAN will ever do. I mean, how many Asians have been invited to all these things that she’s done?! Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York, sing at the opening of the LA Dodgers game, sing at the inaugural presidential ball (2 of them) for President Obama in the US, sing with legends such as Andrea Bocelli & Celine Dion. She got to meet Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, WOULD’VE met the late Michael Jackson & performed with him on his THIS IS IT tour in London. I mean, C’MON! Charice has all the right people behind her, PLUS she’s getting THE MOST exposure, not only bec. of her team, BUT because she truly deserves it. She is a rags to riches story AND she has PURE UNDISPUTED talent.

  19. 27 This will not be a big hit in the US June 27, 2009 at 9:54 pm

I’m sorry to say this but there are already a lot of good songs in Hollywood and they won’t make it to the top.

Americans might just laugh @ Wonder Girls. They looked so cheap.

The song is just a crap. No one will ever notice this. I’m so disappointed.

Why did they rush debuting in America when they’ve only stayed in Korea for 2 years?

    :(

It will be very very embarassing to all K-Pop artists. :(

  20. 28 Jane. June 27, 2009 at 10:32 pm

This might have been good in Korea but in the States..i can just imagine the looks on peoples faces. WTF? Uhh, this will be an embarrassment to Koreans and Korean artists.

    • 31 Eryck August 4, 2009 at 1:34 pm

MILLIONS. This song sucks & Americans aren’t that stupid. They won’t bother with it. Just look on iTunes, Youtube, Amazon.com, and Billboard 100. HASN’T EVEN MADE A DENT! What a waste.

  22. 32 risma June 27, 2009 at 11:37 pm

    yeah.

  31. 41 noain June 28, 2009 at 1:44 pm

it sounds horrible~ they should stick with the original~

  32. 42 ^^Hi June 28, 2009 at 8:04 pm

    >.> They shouldve sticked to the original. This version is nice but its not that great. They could work on it a little more, but they tried their best and put their effort into it. Teens in the US wont really like this song ‘cuz of the accent. They’ll probally make fun of it. Which is really negative DX. Seriously… Jonas Brothers?! Good Gracious. Good Luck WonderGirls!

P.S I’ve noticed a lot of asian artist wanna try to get into the US Music Industry. Itll be better if they wait a while then try; like Boa ^^ Take it slow.

    • 43 Eryck August 4, 2009 at 1:36 pm

True, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT. Establish yourself in Asia, then go into the Western Market. Honestly, the WG will be gone after this tour. They’ll be back in Korea by December. Also, when they hit the ground in Korea, tell them that America would rather have 2NE1. Haha.

  33. 45 tvxqFAN! July 10, 2009 at 1:42 pm
