LPG croons, “Jang Dong-gun, Lee Hyori”

What kind of song title is “Jang Dong-gun, Lee Hyori”? A tacky one, which is the new LPG’s title song.

“Jang Dong-gun, Lee Hyori” is supposed to be a happy and up-beat summer dance track, by composer Lee Ju-ho. So, what song’s did this guy make? He composed Park Myung-soo’s “Prince of the Sea,” Eru’s “White Snow” and Son Dam-bi’s “Invisible Person.” The composer hasn’t really produced a hit song, but “Jang Dong-gun, Lee Hyori” is getting a lot of attention because it’s not normal for the names of two top stars to be used as a song title.

The lyrics of the song are quite a comedic and idiosyncratic as well, beginning with the question, “Why isn’t Jang Dong-gun getting married?” and going on to state that normal people also have a chance to be with the star. In Lee Hyori’s case, the lyrics say, “When it comes to looks you can’t compare and your back hurts when you try to copy her dance moves but goes on to console and comfort oneself, that at least your finger is sexier than hers.” What are they trying to do, make us feel that normal people aren’t good enough and need to dream on but comfort ourselves by singing about it?

LPG is scheduled to make their debut this coming July 12th, on SBS’s Popular Song.
