Son Dambi and Kim Bum make offering to pig head

Dream_drama_090715 (3)

Who does that these days?

Trying to muster up as much luck as possible, Son Dambi and  Kim Bum (above) have turned towards higher spiritual powers to ensure their new drama, “Dream” becomes a success. Offering of money were made to a pig head at a ceremony opened to the press on July 16th.

But will a simple offering be enough?

“Dream” will air on July 27th. Joo Ji-mo and Choi Yeo-jin also star.

doesn’t every drama do that before airing?

i think it’s cute, it’s all traditional and stuff:)

Nothing says cute like putting money on a severed pig’s head. It’s cold, lifeless eyes staring at you as you lay down your offering to the gods.

OK, I know it’s tradition and all, but it’s kind of goofy watching grown men and women bow down before the pig’s head. Plenty of traditions have been retired throughout the world… I think this should be one of them.

The first thing my eyes went straight to (after looking at the guy’s face for a second) were the back of the pig’s head. I saw its insides and was like, “ewww”. XD

People need to get off their freakin high horse. I will admit this is a tradition I would not follow (more for religious reasons than anything else) but who are you to decide which traditions are worthy or not and which ones should be retired or continue?

almost all dramas do this. what do you mean who does this these days?

  19. 22 cdnpoint July 17, 2009 at 4:14 am

Yes, I too wonder about drama casts and crews doing this offerings to pig heads routine. I mean, some of the actors are known Christians and yet, they give offerings to a dead pig head. Hello-problem there. I had seen pictures from TWSSG which had the same ritual photographed. I keep wondering why this is done and why has the custom not gone into the 21st century.

Time to develop new customs to bolster team spirit and wishes for success on TV series and movie projects.

    this is amazing!!!

    HAHA!

  21. 24 =_= July 20, 2009 at 11:04 pm

we all wonder about things we don’t really get.

this is also a tradition in China/Hong kong etc.

Oh and about the actors being christian….they possibly still did this because simply the offerings is 1) tradition
    2) they would’ve almost had no choice if the producers/directors etc. planned it

anyways…i’ve grown up with this tradition so i guess i don’t think about it much…

It’s just a tradition from a different culture, none of us will ever completely understand all the other cultures/customs around the world.

So perhaps we should all just leave it be
