Lee Hyori’s advice to Park Bom is….

leehyori_bom_090718

So what exactly was Lee Hyori’s advice to Park Bom?

On Maybee’s radio show, “Turn up the Volume” on July 16th, Lee Hyori made a surprise call to her hubae, Park Bom with the following advice:

drink more, party more, go to clubs, meet guys, and do what you want… don’t limit yourself…. experiment with different makeup looks, try different clothing styles… I’m sure you will be a much more cooler than you are now.

However, Lee Hyori also warned:

Don’t drink and play…. be open to new experiences but not too open….and to make sure that you work hard to be a better singer/pop act for our country…..

Huh? Didn’t Lee Hyori just contradict herself?  Sandara Park doesn’t need to be jealous.

shes a good person not some slut who gives weird advice. PLUS Maybee was the person who asked Hyori to give some advice. And besides Hyori is such a sweet girl who is just answering a damn question. Besides shes busy in China filming an mv what do you think shes gonna spend an hour trying to say the right words.

  2. 2 ch3lle July 19, 2009 at 5:41 am

    @yorua

I almost thought you were Hyori after reading your comment.

  3. 3 D**khead! July 19, 2009 at 5:42 am

It is clearly stated…if u really got her point, damn! Hyori said, drink more but don’t play. It means, though you’re drunk make sure you can handle yourself well most especially in an oblivious situation… It is not a contradiction but trying to teach Bom how to enjoy life and at the same time, how to react on the possible outcomes for that.
That’s the coolest advice! Go Hyori! BOM! *-*

  4. 4 -_- July 19, 2009 at 5:43 am

speaking of drinking and partying….the drink glass and sex hair def isn’t helping those who are trying to stand up for this one~

    lmao
ppl swear like she does EVERYTHING on her own and doesn’t ever get counsel or help from choreographers, make-up artists, producers, managers/agent etc so that THEY-MAKE-HER look and sound the way THEY-WANT-TO.

“she’s been in the industry for a ‘long—’ time. give her some credit” w.e. >.>
selling your face and body, with really hardly any effort/talent, is not that hard to do-ever heard of Kim Kardashian?

  5. 7 ch3lle July 19, 2009 at 5:52 am

    @D**khead!

LOL what? you made it sound much worse. Get drunk but you’re cool as long as you can manage yourself somewhat…seriously? What? Coolest advice my bootay!

    @-_-

“she’s been in the industry for a ‘long—’ time. give her some credit” w.e. >.>
selling your face and body, with really hardly any effort/talent, is not that hard to do-ever heard of Kim Kardashian?

Well said! she’s manufactured to act how she acts. It’s easy to dance, look good and…look good. I like her and all but seriously people. People write her music, doll her up and teach her how to dance.

    • 8 HyoBang July 20, 2009 at 7:39 am

all pop acts are manufactured. And Hyori obviously has a lot more control in what she does now because of her status…she decides what type of dance she wants and what music will go on an album..so obviously she’s not a puppet on a string like what you guys want to believe. They young stars have a lot to learn from Hyori..because most of them aspire to be the next Hyori.

  6. 9 aka July 19, 2009 at 6:27 am

Let’s all agree that Hyori shouldn’t be giving advices to Park Bom and leave it at that.

    • 11 haha. July 19, 2009 at 10:29 am

      Hear, hear!

    • 12 sure.... July 19, 2009 at 10:37 am

yeah, who wants to hear advice from someone who’s turned herself into a korean icon and been one of korea’s most successful female artist?!

      • 13 :3 July 19, 2009 at 10:43 am

Someone who’s turned /herself/ into a Korean icon? Right, because she certainly hasn’t had any help from talented and unrecognized stylists, producers, writers, and other artists.

        • 14 HyoBang July 20, 2009 at 7:37 am

omg and so does every other famous people on earth…so you are saying that none of these people deserve the recognition that they do because they have other people behind the scene helping them? Name your favorite artist…and I can basically say the same thing about them as what you said about Hyori.

And obviously you are not familiar with the entertainment field..because you are just stating generic facts that you read from a mag. Entertainers practice and work longer than 12+ hours on average, especially if they have a show/concert coming up. I mean Hyori was just taken into the hospital not too long ago for over exertion…that should speak volumes into how hard she works…regardless of the people behind the scene. And they do get recognize…i’m sure she/her management pays them VERY well for the help that they provide for her.

Also if everyone can rely on background people helping them then anyone can become famous right? WRONG. Because i’m sure even if a label send out makeup artists/stylists/plastic surgeons/vocal and dance coach to your house..they still can’t turn you into a famous star. If you believe that they can..then you are delusional. Hyori is one of the biggest star in Korea for a reason…not just her looks/songs/dancing/personality..it’s a combination of all of that…a package…that no regular person has.

          • 15 nice username. July 20, 2009 at 8:24 am

My favorite Korean artist is the band Rocket Diary.

Of course Hyori deserves attention, and attention she certainly has received. No doubt that all of the Korean stars out there work very diligently and stress themselves out over performances, choreography, etc etc. But that Hyori is hardworking does not mean that she is wise and enlightened girl whose every word should be deemed beneficient and sanctified by opinionated fans.

          • 16 nice username. July 20, 2009 at 9:11 am

            *a wise and enlightened girl.

            • 17 HyoBang July 20, 2009 at 5:34 pm

um…she’s been in the korean entertainment industry for so many years and has always managed to keep herself on top of her game. The Korean entertainment industry is known for their fickleness and preference for whatever is “new”. So her being at the level that she is now, and at the age that which most consider to be old in the industry is no small feat. So she must have some good pointers/advice for her sunbaes.

              • 18 kk. July 20, 2009 at 5:44 pm

You do have a point. I suppose she should just be a lot more careful with the way she says things in the future. :3

BTW – is she your favorite K-pop singer? It’s just that, as I scroll down the comments page, I see your username a lot. JW. :]

    • 19 Jinn July 20, 2009 at 4:19 pm

and youu my dear should shutup

  7. 20 >_> July 19, 2009 at 7:33 am

It would be wise if she didn’t add this part : “drink more, party more, go to clubs, meet guys, and do what you want… ”
:) Or if hyori would just word it differently, then it would be BETTER.

  8. 21 yorua July 19, 2009 at 7:43 am

OMG ppl need to stop bashing on hyori…btw shes filming a Hyundai I30 commerical will some guy name “Wilber Pan”, which is funny cuz all i think when i hear his name is Peter Pan lol. But I can wait till Aug. (cuz thats when its released)

  9. 23 koko July 19, 2009 at 7:45 am

hyori basicaly meant: LIVE FREELY BUT WITH BOUNDARIES.

  10. 24 lady July 19, 2009 at 8:24 am

Hyori isn’t contradicting herself. She’s basically telling Bommie to loosen up and have fun. She doesn’t have to stick to the mold that YG has put her in…she should be her own person. Hyori isn’t telling her to go out and be a ho!

  11. 25 leilene July 19, 2009 at 8:43 am

    @koko: That’s still a contradiction.

  12. 26 cous July 19, 2009 at 10:40 am

haters will be haters, but fact is Bom is lucky to have some connection with Hyori who is one of Korea’s top stars!
take her advice any way you want, hyori is still the queen!

  13. 27 so dumb July 19, 2009 at 10:56 am

if you dont know korean, you shoudlnt have an opinion on this topic because everything about it being translated is twisted and weird. And nobody was calling hyori wise..whered that even come from? her advice for an upcoming shy star is good. loosen up and bring yourself out– she was just stating ways you can enhance that in your lifestyle which is going ou more. ppl are so quick to judge without even knowing.

  14. 28 Heartbreak July 19, 2009 at 11:33 am

i wouldn’t say only bom is doing it…2ne1 has been overlimitin a lot lately, too much of themselves, tsk tsk

  15. 29 um, what? July 19, 2009 at 11:37 am

i dont even like hyori but popseoul just rearranged the words that hyori said into something completely different.

everybody here is so stupid. OBVIOUSLY hyori’s advice to Bom wasn’t: DRINK MORE & DATE and you’ll be cooler. Her advice was: gain more confidence and open yourself up more to bring it out on stage to become a better performer because you can. if you know korean and saw the clip, you would know.

Good Lord. The whole ‘drink more’ was barely even in her advice and like…a dot compared to everything else hyori said. it was just put in there to list some other fun and natural ways (including going out/clubbing/socalizing/trying on different clothes) that Bom could put in her lifestyle to open herself up more as a person so she can bring that with her on stage to give everything she’s got. this actually is an honor bc hyori was stating all this after saying she watched 2ne1 a lot herself as a fan and thought bom was great but if there was something she could tell her (bc she was asked that) it would be to bring herself out more because she knows theres more that she can do, and gaining more confidence in your lifestyle is a way to help that- and drinking was just one of the things she said that could help bring that out which is true. and to make things worse for popseoul but better for hyori here is that even though she said all that, at the end Hyori said “but not too much and have boundaries for yourself” which ironically simply contradicts POPSEOUL saying that Hyori’s words were: “drink too be cool but dont drink and work hard.”

and bluntly speaking here, it isn’t like Bom’s a kid- she’s almost in her mid 20s and in the kpop industry; it’s not like ‘go drink a little’ and ‘go hang out with some guys’ is something that should ruin her. not that hyori’s point was even ‘get drunk and sleep around.’ People are talking as if Hyori sat a naiive 13 year old Bom down telling her seriously, “You want to be cool? Go get wasted with guys.”

& if ‘getting dolled up and learning to dance’ like hyori supposedly did to be this huge of a star for this long just as she did and is doing is so easy- it obviously didnt work for the other millions of girls who tried to do the same thing.

  16. 30 gkbarbara July 19, 2009 at 11:51 am

whatever she said.she could have just called rather than saying it on the radio. its obvious she wants the attention.

    • 31 eleven July 19, 2009 at 11:53 am

uh the radios the one who called her first and asked her to answer these questions.

i swear..when ppl dont have anything left to say they pull the “its obvious hyori just wants attention” card”…as if she needs any more.

  17. 32 kpop88 July 19, 2009 at 1:10 pm

hmmmm thinking about what she said not the best advice for the first part but the second part is somewhat decent but I don’t think she should be drinking and partying and plus with the amount of freedom she has I doubt that she’ll spend it getting drunk and making irresponsible mistakes

  18. 33 aympreetee July 19, 2009 at 1:27 pm

    slut need i say more?

  19. 34 Yosh July 19, 2009 at 7:16 pm

Hyori was just trying to sound wise.. are you sure this was translated right? oh well, I admire Hyori for taking the time to even give anyone advice -.-

  20. 36 romele July 19, 2009 at 8:53 pm

nice of her…shes stating what you can do, this and that. HOWEVER if you wanna be an A-list should you do those?

  21. 37 emofanatic July 19, 2009 at 9:28 pm

i like bom’s voice more than hyori.

  22. 38 Chii July 19, 2009 at 9:47 pm

I think that her advice was cut by Popseoul (she may ba just joking at first) or maybe was just merely misunderstood. Lol.

  23. 40 HOLY SHIIIIII July 19, 2009 at 10:48 pm

omg lee hyori is soo damn sexy and Wilber Pan is mad cool

  24. 41 *? July 19, 2009 at 10:53 pm

I like that Wilber Pan guy’s song “Bu De Bu Ai”. Its in chinese but, the korean version is also good too.

  25. 42 roxxar July 19, 2009 at 11:15 pm

uh….it’s normal and part of everyday life..loosen up a little. And Hyori is a A-lister…and she’s doing it ;x

  26. 44 wtf people July 20, 2009 at 12:06 am

Wow, the majority of the people here are amazing. She’s not a slut, she’s just comfortable with herself and doing her job as an entertainer. I swear if a guy was like that everyone would be all “He’s SO HOT”, but if it’s a girl? Oh no, of course she’s a slut.

The REAL advice she gave was good, not whatever crap Popseoul has doctored up.

  27. 45 Fan#1 of 2ne1 July 20, 2009 at 12:11 am

    -.-

  28. 46 JL July 20, 2009 at 1:27 am

Ok, this is how I kind of looked at it:
Practically EVERY Korean man who goes to work in the service sector (which is more than 75% of Korea’s work force) goes to drink with his co-workers and friends like every night. It’s just part of the modern Korean culture. Koreans see drinking as THE ultimate best way to loosen up, express their emotions, & thus become much more intimate with people who they might have been shy with if they were both sober.
So Hyori’s advice – drink with other people – is actually pretty good advice to a young Korean in her 20 something who is too shy and needs to become closer to people.
And then again, Korean society frowns upon women who drink and/or party (because a woman’s place is traditionally in the home and because she shouldn’t be so freely expressing her emotions as a man might), while on the other hand it strongly encourages men to drink because it is “manly” (apparently only wimpy men don’t drink) and “part of their duty to the company & co-workers” and etc. When a woman claims to drink/party frequently, it makes her a slut/a low and vulgar woman. A lot of Korean women celebs come out in the open & say they do drink alcohol now and then, which we should be proud of if you consider the ridiculous double standards of Korean society.
So all in all, I am proud of Hyori for her advice. Sure, it’s not the WISEST advice perhaps. What’d you expect?? Her career is that of a diva, and this is the best diva advice to a future wannabe diva – “loosen up, live a little, enjoy life & people.”

Sheesh. Some people are so stuck up -__-

  29. 47 !@#$%^&*() July 20, 2009 at 2:04 am

k people gotta chill. clearly, this msg was translated into english. if you read it in korean & if you understood korean, it’ll probably have a different effect/meaning. i dont know why people are saying shes dumb or whatever. just like “D**khead!” stated, shes trying to say, just live life, have fun but still be responsible. hyori has been a celebrity for almost all her life now. she probably misses when she was younger (bom’s age) and wishes that she could go back to do alot of things she couldnt. thats why shes giving this advice to park bom.

  30. 48 Paky July 20, 2009 at 3:42 am

You still can’t deny that Hyori uses sex to sell. That’s like saying she was the same artist in Finkl as she is today solo, which just isn’t true (she acted cuter in Finkl)

Not to say she isn’t talented, but since she’s good looking, you have to be a bit more skeptical. For example, I haven’t heard any other Finkl member becoming as well known as Hyori.

    • 49 HyoBang July 20, 2009 at 7:27 am

she’s using her looks to get to where she is today….which is true. But in no way is she a “slut” or sells sex or anything of that nature….throughout the years the only people that calls her a “slut” are the insecure/jealousy teenybopper who hate her because she’s linked to one of their idols-that-they-can-never-have-but-still-feel-possessive-of-that-idol.

  31. 50 Wooozy July 20, 2009 at 4:27 am

    1.)Hyori isn’t a slut.
2.) Look into what Hyori had just said.
3.) Loosen up and live life.

ANYWAYS…. popseoul, you know your kinda slow on news…
the whole ‘Amy-bad-mouthing-Minwoo’update is out. News is that Amy ‘lied’. Look into is popseoul. ;p

  32. 51 lallamia July 20, 2009 at 7:02 am

wtf is this advice she clearly should stop giving advice and bom doesn’t need an advice from that slut

  33. 53 Minzy's Slave July 20, 2009 at 10:00 am

Hyori should not be advising anoyone of anything. She has one of the worst reputations for sleeping around. I guess she thinks her loose lifestyle was the key to her success. I would argue that is was her breast implants.

    • 54 !@#$%^&*() July 20, 2009 at 11:22 am

k woah, whats up with all this hate?
i dont understand haters. they say all this mean crap on the internet but, you would say the same thing to their face? its funny cause hyori (or any celebrity) would never read your rude comments; considering they’ve got better things to do. & her bad rep for sleeping around.. wtf? i bet its all just rumors. rumors like those start once you get thaat famous. also, how on earth would you know if her breasts are fake or not? someones been watching her a bit too hard..

    • 60 CeceliaS69 July 21, 2009 at 12:19 pm

      woah~ woah honey bunnies
people need to chill and agree to disagree

if people like her and don’t think she’s a slut
who cares and if you don’t like her and think she’s
being too sex icon-ish who cares

you can’t always expect to agree on everything
and why does everything link up to jealousy?….
to be honest I don’t care about her but still

*shakes head* we really need to grow up
      and accept each other’s opinions….

don’t get mad now just saying being 30 and all

      • 61 eleven July 21, 2009 at 3:02 pm

lol although this shouldnt be opinion about her but rather than popseoul’s wrong translation of the whole thing.

  34. 62 yo July 20, 2009 at 1:25 pm

yeah, well the interview was here in popseul
    look 4 it lol

  38. 69 2NE14EVER July 20, 2009 at 7:46 pm

    2NE1 ALL THE WAY
    HYORI SAY AWAY

  39. 70 aka July 21, 2009 at 1:04 am

This is what Park Bom (and I) got away from Hyori’s advice: “Be more like Paris Hilton”. That’s the bottom line. This is not a riddle people!! Translation was pretty straight forward. But rest assured, we will never give up nor will we ever surrender our identity.Park Bom should and will improve her stage presence and be outgoing but not the Hyori way.

  40. 71 hmm July 21, 2009 at 5:52 am

that’s not all she said~ there was more. your quotes are cut off.

  41. 72 Kirsi July 21, 2009 at 10:32 am

LOL. I love Hyori and all, but her advice is pretty awful. Go become a slut and party hard???…all so so you can gain some new experience and grow as a person??? Come on, seriously. She’s almost saying why not just become a prostitute. Park Bom should BE HERSELF. Yeah it’s great to experience new things in life, but partying hard, drinking, and sleeping around won’t bring memorable life lessons in the end…it’ll only bring regret.

    • 73 puhlease July 21, 2009 at 12:42 pm

sure you love hyori…it’s obvious you’re a hater and like popseoul twist her words to suit your hatred of her. but whatever, hyori’s still the queen!

  42. 74 2NE1 July 21, 2009 at 12:11 pm

    “drink more”
WTF!! what about her health ???

  43. 75 Yan July 21, 2009 at 10:19 pm

    Haters is haters..
no matter what hyori said they wont agree with it..
Idk if it was a miss translated or pop seoul only want to make fun of this article. But popseoul better post the right translation next time..
Iam not hyori fan but i get the point of her comment..
Her comment looks so ugly bcos popseoul cut it into pieces and translate it in their own way..

  44. 76 Chicanerist July 24, 2009 at 2:38 pm

Wow, some people are plain idiots. Hyori’s general advice is to live life a little, have some fun while you still can. It’s not farfetched that the sexy 30 year old is giving this advice. Why not let loose a little in your youth?

  45. 77 oliviauncensored July 25, 2009 at 8:43 pm

    Who the hell cares???
Why are we over analyzing this any way?
Lol, Hyori’s main advice was to go out and have fun, but be safe! That’s all she saying.
    Let’s leave it at :D .
