Park Jae-bum scandal covered in local Seattle media

JaeBum_

Couldn’t they have done a better job?

Recently, HOTTESTS tried to send a message to former 2PM leader Park Jae-bum. A group of international fans hired an airplane to fly a sky banner around the singer’s hometown of Seattle with the message “J. What time is it now?” The message hit the skies at exactly 2 P.M. on September 28th and flew for a reported two hours.

Well, apparently the  banner caught the attention of Seattle’s KOMO News who wrote a rather uninformed and quite insensitive  piece on Jae-bum’s current situation. For starters, the article (which has been heavily edited since its original publication) refers to “2-PM” as “the Korean version of the Jonas Brothers”…give me a break! The rest of the article is riddled with questionable reporting and unnecessary exaggerations. Note: since when does going back to your own hometown equal going into “seclusion”.

Apparently the article got so much global traffic after publication that the website’s server overloaded. The attention then prompted station to feature the story on the local evening news. Reporters filmed Jae-bum’s parents’ home and interviewed local fans, as well as his neighbors. Hmm…I guess it must have been a slow news day.

In other Jae-bum news, a forum recently set up Seattle Glory Presbyterian church (where Jay and his family attend) has already been shut down (just 4 days after its September 23rd debut) due to numerous negative comments and bashes directed toward the singer. It’s kind of a shame since the forum was set up to encourage him, not bring him down.

On another note, a (more reliable) source has reported that JYP himself  has flown to Seattle. It has been confirmed that the CEO will have a dinner meeting with Jae-bum and his family on September 30th before heading back to New York for work. I’m sure they’ll have lots to talk about!

  2. 3 shortie October 1, 2009 at 10:40 am

@@ i was irritated with the way he said “jaebeom” lol -.- meh.

  3. 4 popiaht October 1, 2009 at 10:47 am

Fans think they did this to support him , but actually fans put too much pressure on him. Leave him alone.

    • 5 Soni October 1, 2009 at 11:50 pm

I agree. Some fans (the ones that donated money for the banner) are asking KOMO News to respect Jay’s privacy when it was that same banner that brought the media to his home. What a bunch of hypocrites!

      • 6 E October 2, 2009 at 4:08 pm

The sky banner was to show Jay support and give him strength in whatever he does. Not to beg him to come back or anything along those lines.

Furthermore, the message remained quite ambiguous “J” instead of Jay or Jaebeom for exactly that reason, to not attract media attention. It might have brought the media to his house, but it wasn’t their intention.

So I suggest, the next time you want to call the fans hypocrites, read up more on the project and don’t dish out baseless accusations.

      • 7 theya October 4, 2009 at 1:02 am

You are absolutely right. Some fans are going to the extreme to get Jay back. In a statement of his he said that he doesn’t want the fans to be sad and try to back him come back because it will be harder for him. Now he’s on the news. Some fans will do anything to get him back just except the fact that he’s not coming back.

  4. 8 guccidog October 1, 2009 at 11:05 am

Just pray and Go for it Guys. It will work, It will work, He will come back. I hope he will. What time is it everyone ? Bring the power and re-unite. Seven are one…what time is it now??????

  8. 13 PROUDEST HOTTEST. October 1, 2009 at 12:06 pm

    Wow, are you serious?
First it’s HUGE in Korea an now they are trying to make a HUGE deal about it in Seattle.
I think people need to juts LET JAY BE! i mean leave him alone and let him do what he wants to do, it’s HIS LIFE, no one can make him think otherwise.
-I know Jay will return, just not now, it’s only been what 4 weeks since his departure? give him some time people.
We have to be patient, if you were a TRUE HOTTEST, you’d believe in him and just let him do what he wants.
He just needs space, and we should give it to him.
-I know others think that if you;re supporting Jay by doing all these things for him; dont get me wrong but that is showing support, but the best thing we can do is to just let him be. I mean has anyone asked him about what HE WANTS.
Maybe he just wants to be left alone right now; breathing space.
so let’s give it to him…

2pm wont be the same without Jay, but they have my FULL SUPPORT no matter what happens.
And if Jay decides he doesnt want to go back to Korea, then he too has my FULL SUPPORT AND FAITH.

    • 15 zzz October 5, 2009 at 9:52 pm

Wth do u neo abt being a TRUE HOTTEST. U are just getting ready to move on without a member of 2pm. FULL SUPPORT AND FAITH y do u think all this is done for? We did this to show Jay that there r fans still waiting and supporting him in watever he chooses. This banner was to show him that there r people still waiting for when he should come back. so don go around saying such rubbish abt The hottest not being true fans ! Don go around judging when u don neo anything at all!! ARGH DAMN PISSED OFF CAN!!!!

  9. 16 Eve October 1, 2009 at 12:29 pm

Kobo is a stupid news channel… an equivalent to Fox. He “FLED” Korea?! What the hell, damn you, stupid reporter.

  10. 17 spazifuwantto/MissladyBunny October 1, 2009 at 12:37 pm

Poor jay I would be hiding underneath a rock.I understand the message they’re trying to get jay desperately to hear but he does need his space and privacy.

if he returns it would be a huge positive but a very emotional event.I support his return but also must respect his and his family privacy.

  11. 18 ItsASuprised October 1, 2009 at 12:44 pm

That’s why I said before.. Fans are selfish. Just give him space. He did not want this kind of attention. It just sad. Think before you act.

    • 19 zzz October 5, 2009 at 9:55 pm

It wasn’t the fans fault, its the media. Hottest didn’t mean for this to happen, they just wanted to show him that there are people still supporting him. Don go around saying such things abt fans ok! It’s the media that went to his parent’s house ARGH!! ( can’t blame the fans)

  12. 20 chiku October 1, 2009 at 12:45 pm

omg how embarrasing! i feel so bad for him right now. people, CALM DOWN and give the boy some space! i feel like everyone is driving him into a corner…and i really hope that random stalkers don’t show up at his house.

  13. 21 mimi October 1, 2009 at 1:01 pm

they prolly compared them to the jonas brothers in terms of POPULARITY… which i’d say is pretty accurate

  14. 22 jerryxmas October 1, 2009 at 1:05 pm

WTF???? 2PM AND JONAS BROTHERS? WHATTTTTTTTTTTTT THATS WACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

  15. 23 girlsquad October 1, 2009 at 2:01 pm

  16. 24 girlsquad October 1, 2009 at 2:05 pm

Are the Fans too free?No need study? No need to work?…Do they know wat is Privacy?

  17. 25 lilhkqute October 1, 2009 at 2:21 pm

if you think about it optimistically…
    that’s FREE PROMO!!!!!

  18. 26 EpicFerocious October 1, 2009 at 3:12 pm

hahahahahahah! how stupid can you get from a seattle media like that? comparing 2PM to that of Jonas Brothers?????

Man, Jonas Brothers ain’t no better than Moffatts and Hanson…. and the former did nothing but strutting their cutesy-ness than talent. Well, 2PM may not be as famous as Jonas Bros but 2PM can do anything better than JoBros…..
One more thing, JoBros targets tweens, 2PM targets YUPPIES!!!!

  19. 27 crazed October 1, 2009 at 5:55 pm

I’m a fan of 2pm but I’m not a fan of the Jonas Brothers. I don’t think they’re bad. Their music just doesn’t appeal to me. It’s obvious that there are musical differences between the two groups. But the comments about the Jonas Brothers < 2pm should really stop. Not that it’s really hurting anybody but it makes fans (including popseouls writer) sound childish. I don’t think it was offensive at all so I don’t understand why angry fans keep bringing it up. It’s probably one of the least offensive things in the article. Why was it so wrong to make that comparison? Because in the fans opinion 2pm is so much better? What kind of argument is that? No wonder they think we’re all preteens and teens. And I’m sure the writer probably got his point across to his readers (the ones who aren’t familiar with kpop) that Jay was from a really popular boy band in Asia equivalent to the Jonas Brothers who are very popular in America at the moment. Their musical styles or whatever else fans want to bring into this are different but it's not relevant to the writer’s intent with the analogy which was to try helping the reader understand 2pms popularity.

  25. 34 islandgirlnns October 2, 2009 at 8:32 am

wooow! some dancing some singing? what an understatement. The neighbor doesn’t seem to care that one of Korea’s biggest stars is living next to him..

  26. 35 Blah October 2, 2009 at 10:54 am

I’m surprised he made an anti Korean comment. That kinda puts me against him, and I didn’t really know that he was that stuck up. But the poor guy. They need to leave him alone. He’s HIDING in his own house. Poor poor guy. Just leave him alone.

  27. 36 p October 2, 2009 at 11:28 am

korean Jonas Brothers??? Really?? hahaha i saw that and i bursted out laughing.. of all things JB? 2pm fighting. i love jay and he’ll be back for sure. its just time for now.

  28. 37 x-tina October 2, 2009 at 11:46 am

    omg, your kidding right?!
    I really thought it was
sweet of them to do this,
but it really went this far?
    poor jay.

    btw, why the h*ll would
you compare 2PM w/ Jonas Brothers?
    What similarities are there?! none.

  29. 38 en October 2, 2009 at 1:00 pm

jaebum fighting i hope him back to 2pm

  30. 39 woopy October 2, 2009 at 4:06 pm

I follow the skybanner project since in the beginning.
The fans didn’t mean to catch media’s eyes or invading his privacy just wanna show his support.

They did think that people around there might be curious by that skybanner. That’s why they just wrote something like J. What time is it now? which is not identify anything. But they never thought of catching up the media’s eyes I swear. Please do not blame them.

Anyway, this news although it’s a local news, it’s cautht on one of American friends. He’s like immediately ask me about 2pm and what’s going on on Jay when he’s never ever interested in K-pop. Man what should I say now.

  31. 40 vs0ne October 2, 2009 at 4:15 pm

I actually can’t believe they went to Jaebum’s house and showed it on television :S seriously, they need to give him some privacy. I wonder what some people will do now, knowing exactly where he lives…?

  32. 41 hee tae October 2, 2009 at 9:06 pm

They are just putting too much pressure on him,
people should just leave him alone for quite sometime for him to be able to think!

  33. 42 Doreen October 2, 2009 at 9:23 pm

oh mann, this issue is getting so out of hand. why report it when they are not that sure what’s going on … oh mann, looks like Jaebum will be forced out of his house soon to face the reporters … now even at seattle :/

  34. 43 angel26_j October 2, 2009 at 11:33 pm

    omg!!
leave him alone.. and give him a rest people…

He wanted freedom from the media.. thats why he’s back home..
who ever paid for that skybanner is plain stupid…
    not helping… !

  35. 44 jean October 3, 2009 at 1:18 am

    Found this in my sch.

    “…
    I failed my maths.
    I thought that 7-1=0″

    Get it?? Hahaha.

Anyway, leave him alone. Give him some respect. its his decision, let it be. he’s old enough to make his own decision. If he’s fated or destined to be forever in 2pm, nth can stop his fate.

  36. 45 MissFalling October 3, 2009 at 1:42 am

WTH, like seriously. It’s such an insult to 2PM. Jonas Brothers?! Oh please.
And i’ve watched the clip. Sounds quite neutral and yes, I agree with the two fans there definitely.

  37. 46 Tiffany October 3, 2009 at 3:06 am

    WOW JUST WOW.

JONAS BROTHERS IS NOOOOOTHINGGGGGG LIKE 2PM!!! ARGH THAT GETS ME TO MAD!!!! IT’S COMPARING MICHAEL JACKSON TO NICK JONAS! GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • 47 quetzal October 3, 2009 at 4:51 pm

Michael Jackson was a gifted and influential songwriter and performer. 2PM doesn’t rank within lightyears of him now or ever.

  38. 48 minkhuncouple October 3, 2009 at 6:08 am

It’s already a crime to put the Jonas brothers and 2PM in the same sentence. Why did they have to say they’re like the Jonas brothers. 2PM, they’re real and not plastic and not trying hard to be funny. Jonas brothers, plastic, skinny, and have bad hair.

  39. 49 niajha October 3, 2009 at 6:13 am

im not a fan of 2pm but i dont’ feel sorry for him. he surely has no problem with koreans now that’s he’s rich and famous…….why before? why even go to korea to train to be famous if you hate it so much . He deserves what he’s getting now……..if he deserves to get on stage again after this blows over i dunno. we all say stupid stuff sometimes.

    • 50 Gloria October 3, 2009 at 6:36 am

omg how can u say that???? Ur being a real asshole if u dont like him just do us all a favor and dont comment or even read stuff bout him… He didnt mean that stupid, would u like a place where u dont know any1 and can’t even communicate w/ them????? I get his problem cuz I kno how it feels and believe me u would hate it 2…
and he didnt luv Korea just cuz he wuz rich and famous dumbass itz cuz he made some friends and wuz havin fun doing wat he did best and I agree w/ him and I agree w/ his choice 2 leave even tho I would luv 2 c him come bak cuz he can’t anymore….
itz a jyp rule dat u can’t come bak 2 ur group da same reason hyunah can’t go bak 2 wg. So please just get a life and if u dont support them datz great itz ur opinion but get a life and stop bashing ppls!!!!

  40. 51 Ashley October 3, 2009 at 7:28 am

That’s amazing. I’m surprised it hitted the news. But poor Jaebeom. He’s isolating himself from the world and his fans. I’m hoping he’d realize that’s it’s okay to come out now. Fans need you Jay.

  41. 52 Phavy October 3, 2009 at 11:26 am

2pm is way better then Jonas Brothers(in my opinion sorry if i offended others)but 2pm and jonas brothers music are not the same and how can they be compared with them?! i mean 2pm is like R&B and Hip-Hop and Jonas Brothers are Rock and idk

  42. 53 sabrinazalia October 3, 2009 at 7:46 pm

Enough people! They didnt say that 2pm is cheesy like jobros.. What they mean is 2pm is popular and also has lots of girl fans. Yea both of them are somekind of teen idol these days

  43. 54 rainbow October 4, 2009 at 11:28 am

the more ppl try to give him “a life in hell”, the more ppl gonna give him their great supports. ppl are so jealous of what he had before, thats why they did it.

  44. 56 Critilyzer October 5, 2009 at 7:12 am

Being from the USA I realized that this was on many news websites and channels.I just think he’s probably confused on what he wants, which is why he returned back to USA. There is quite a large chance of him returning back to Korea, because he had so much success there! I also agree that the fans must have sent the airplane sign as a support, but maybe he just needs some time by himself now. In general fans always try to make there celebs feel better and show support in harsh times.
Thats what Park Jae’s fans tried to do by sending the airplane sign, but I think some fans just need to understand that they can show their support by leaving J alone for a bit too xD he’ll probably come back after a bit =P
I also agree with Crazyed on the comparison with Jonas Brothers. I dont think they were comparing their talents they were just making reference to how popular the groups are in both countries xDD

  45. 57 anon.. October 6, 2009 at 11:17 pm

didn’t watch the clip because i figure it’d be ridiculous but seattle’s komo4 always covers useless crap. it might’ve gotten some attention because one of their major anchors is mary nam who is korean.

  46. 58 psssh. October 9, 2009 at 3:34 pm

Okay riddle me this: WHY is everyone so sure he’s coming back?

Is everyone COMPLETELY BLIND to the fact that he’s been nothing but miserable in Korea? The way he looked? The things he did on the programs? The stuff he said? The look on his face when he talked about the US?

Did NOBODY notice how he HATED being in Korea and just wanted to go home? So when an opportunity came along, he took it. Yeah, he FLED.

DID NO ONE ELSE BOTHER TO NOTICE THAT?!
