Are the girls actually becoming a somebody in the U.S. with the power of Nobody?
It looks like the Wonder Girls are finally getting the green light, after entering the U.S. market with their American single, back in June. Apparently, the girls have been getting a lot of media play in the past week and have slowly been climbing their way up on the Billboard charts. A representative of JYP Entertainment stated,
According to the U.S. “Mediabase” site’s radio broadcast frequency analysis, the Wonder Girls’ track “Nobody” has been broadcasted more than 65 times between the 12th and 18th in the states. In addition, their ranking on the Billboard charts has gone up 16 places from 123rd to 107th.
In particular, the Wonder Girls’ “Nobody” has also entered the rotation play list of 18 of 167 “Top 40 Radio Stations” in the U.S. If selected (the song), the rotation which is considered the U.S. selected playlist, allows for one song to be played once or twice a week for a span of four consecutive weeks. It is also remarkable that the Wonder Girls are the first Korean artist to ever enter the Top 40 radio rotation.
Congratulations to the Wonder Girls for making such a big step in the U.S. music industry. But are there any PS! readers who live in the U.S., that have actually heard “Nobody” being played on the radio?

I mean their song, not radio. Don’t know why I typed radio instead. XD
So I think it’s awesome that the Wonder Girls are slowing moving forward! I’m really rooting for these girls!! Unfortunately I live out in the sticks and I won’t be hearing the Wonder Girls, BoA, Se7en, OR Utada anytime soon.
Never heard of their song played on the radio. Try other states or cities????
never heard them on the radio..not here in NY/NJ. On the other hand, Hikaru Utada is quite popular. Heard her guesting in several radio stations here in New York. For those who don’t know her. She is an ABJ American Born Japanese!! She’s fluent in both English and Japanese! That’s my girl!! yey!!
Good Job WonderGirls.
And Lolz at the haters -.-
At least WonderGirls are in the states and getting recognition more than your favourite artiste.
And WOnderGirls are currently the most successful Korean artiste to debut in US up to date.So eat your words XD
Peace.
urgh, okay
i’m not quite a wondergirls fan. probably one of their haters, i don’t really know
i admit that maybe wondergirls have gotten a lot of attention in US.
but i really don’t like the way you said
“At least WonderGirls are in the states and getting recognition more than your favourite artiste.”
i mean, you don’t have any right to insult my favorite artist.
okay? so just watch what you said!
Yeah right.
They did better than Se7en, but that’s about it.
You can’t really say they did better than Rain because Rain’s Ninja Assassin didn’t even drop yet.
Plus, BoA’s Eat You Up sold over 28k, verses WG’s 17k for Nobody. Both are flops, but WG promoted so much more than BoA. They went on tour and crap, while BoA did SM’s rinky dink events and Asian club nights.
And Utada sold more than both combined. I know you didn’t mention Utada, but just adding that in anyways.
I smell a flop.
I haven’t heard Wonder Girls’ song in the radio yet, but I did hear Boa’s “I Did It For Love” in the mall while I was shopping. I was really shocked.
This is getting old.
They should release new songs.
I agree with MBLAQLOVER, it’s been around for a year already…we need to hear new songs from them. They should do it fast.
i haven’t.
JYP’s marketing skills have improved! Wonder Girls are doing so much better than Rain… hahah
I haven’t heard them on the radio..but then again I live in a smaller city, and few hours from Atlanta but still I doubt they were on any Atlanta radio stations either…though more Asians then in my town cause no one really cares lol.
Dang southerners!!!
i live in louisiana, & i heard utada hikaru which was shocking to say the least. no sign of wonder girls yet though
Why would people get chuffed if they reach 107 >.> dude its 100 SONGS PLUS 7…
Wonder girls have a long way to go
well, I’ll congratulate the wonder girls, but they need more than the Jonas brothers to boost their popularity. I say through a good video game. That’s how Hikki got so popular. At the Utada Hikaru listening party tons of people brought copies of Kingdom Hearts for Utada to sign. Which is really…really…FUNNY. Even BoA is singing for a video game, Tales of *insertnamehere* Though The Tales series isn’t as popular nor widely distributed. Anyway, my point is the best way to fully distribute the wonder girls is to do is through a GOOD game company. It worked for Utada.
If the Jonas brothers couldn’t help ‘em, then I really don’t think anything could. That was the big thing, the one thing Boa, se7en, rain, utada, etc didn’t have. Yeah, they had guest stars like amerie, lil’ kim, akon on some of their tracks, but this was a major group and a huge tour with direct exposure to the tween market. This was the wgs chance, but they just don’t have what it takes to grab onto an audience (US) and keep that attention. Jyp would’ve been better off giving that opportunity to one of his US-trained artists like G-Soul, J-Lim, or had a group of them perform. They can really sing and to see asians with serious singing skills and talent would’ve went a long way, a lot farther than the joke that was the wgs. I think the Jonas brothers are this generations new kids on the block and are very cheesy, but if their fans cracked on the girls, then I just don’t know what other fanbase they could go for.
Well the tour did something since they’re now no. 76 on billboard top 100
I’ve heard it be previewed because the jonas brothers were having a performance in my town and they previewed “nobody” on the radio as the guest star..but other than that i’ve never heard the full song been played!
i have never ever heard it in the radio! haha
I <3 nobody !XD
I live in California, and I’ve never heard them. Never heard BoA, either. Heard Utada though.
sm ent.’ foreigner & half-korean “Albba”
…
pitiful
Please delete my earlier post. It isn’t finished yet and I accidently pressed the “submit” button. Thanks.
we american just like them because they look like cats! STFU Wondergirls!
well…
Wondergirls only made it into the 100 american billbord because of extreme marketing, touring included. They are not raw talent. They will get their stage (making it onto the american top 100 billbord) but will not sustain or grow and definitely won’t conquer the american market. It’s a shame so much money has been wasted on them when they dont truthfully deserve it (im taking bout talent), hardworking they might be and undeserved of my harsh word and good on them for securing tours with the jonas brothers and getting theoretically further than any other kpop artist in the big America, but its a preposterous dream to believe they’ll make it or that they can justfully represent and showcase Kpop TALENT.
nope
No, I haven’t heard them on the radio in Ohio. The song was out last year, but it just made the Billboard NOW? xD
JYP is hyping this up in all corners of reach. It’s a good accomplishment, especially knowing how much Korean celebs want to break out in the US entertainment industry. Making top Billboard is the first step for Wonder Girls. Next up, we’ll have to see if they last to create more hits or will they be a one-hit-wonder, like so many top Billboard artists. Hopefully, it’ll be the former.
) All the best!
ONLY KOREAN GROUP who made it into BILLBOARD CHART..Wonder Girls SARANGHAE
I haven’t heard them on the radio in North C
The big trend in american music is to be danceable. Some of the music on the charts that seems bad, is at least danceable. I don’t remember their music being danceable, though(from the JB’s concert.) Am I wrong? Maybe it’s R&B beat type danceable. But it’s not R&B.
i looked up the billboard and the wonder girls history on the cart, but they aren’t there, it said no history and never been on the carts
i live in the US and i heard them on the radio
go wondergirls
I heard on the radio on 103.7 kiss fm in milwaukee wisconsin
