The Wonder Girls are climbing their way up on the U.S. Billboard chart.
Just the other day, we reported that the Wonder Girls had made their way up to spot 107 on the Billboard charts. Surprisingly, it has been announced today that they have jumped up 31 spots to 76 on the Billboard “Hot 100” chart.
In addition, it has been revealed that the girls have also reached #1 in album sales during October 12th to the 18th. Yes you read right, the girls sold a whopping 30,462 copies of their single, topping both Maxwell “Pretty Wings” album sales of 29,088 copies and Mariah Carey “Obsessed” album sales of 27,513.
Now, how do the Wonder Girls feel about breaking into the Top 100 on the Billboard charts? You’re gonna have to wait and find out this coming friday, as the girls have returned to Korea and will be holding a press conference this coming friday. At the conference, the girls will be sharing stories of their experiences and accomplishments in America, as well as future plans for their career.
It looks like things are looking brighter for the girls in the States. Congratulations once again to the Wonder Girls for making such an accomplishment!

SO PROUD OF THEM!!! yay im so happy, cant wait to hear them!
omg.
thats great for the girls.
Congrats WG !
yay wonder girls ftw!
wow good for them!!
))
i’m not a big fan of “nobody” or their other stuff, but it’s about time for an american breakthrough!!!
How would they be #1 in album sales when they don’t have a whole album out…
Congratulation Wonder Girls. I’m so happy for them. I hope the song will keep climbing to the top 10 or 5. The more support and promotion the better. And album selling pass a diva., now that’s amazing!.., don’t doubt these girls, b/c they’re fighters and they can succeed. Finally asian artist on american billboard chart top 100! Go Wonder Girls.,
Beg to differ. I usually scour the Billboard 100 to find new songs & I’m afraid one little girl has already beaten out the WG about a few months ago. CHARICE debuted @ #44 on Billboard Hot 100 & #35 on Canada’s Hot 100 w/ her single “Note to God”. Either way though, great to know Asians are breaking through the Billboard charts. WG, still haven’t seen them on iTunes 100 though. Keep it up to all the Asian artists. One day, we’ll see an Asian holding the #1 spot on the Billboard.
I’m so proud of them!
hah! WG FTW! Love them!
wow. looks like the wunderfuls are really working over time!
this is the version that is on the radio nowadays:
nobody wondergirls remix
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7ON9Gn5gJE&feature=fvsr
much better than the original english version… blech
as for the people who say “I never hear about them” etc. I hear Nobody on the radio at least once every two weeks.
how come that i still didn’t hear it here in las vegas?
They’re playing it twice a week. Not everyday. So the likelihood of hearing it is quite slim. And even slimmer if you don’t listen to it 24/7.
Cite a source for the aforementioned sales numbers and then I’ll believe it.
thats right! thats my wonder girls!!!
wonder girls are the best girl group foreverrr!
lmao they are number 76 in the hot 100. congrats wondergirls

Why was their single so cheap, $1? Is that how much CDs go for in the States nowadays? I know Japanese CDs are still hella expensive.
that is only a single song. not the price of the cd
The price of the CD is $1.
well it is still only one song but remixes to it. which i still say is a single
The CD only had 3 songs on it, so that’s why it was cheap.
It wasn’t their actual debut album.
Thanks for the info. It’s still hella cheap compared to Japanese singles considering they contain about the same number of songs. I didn’t realize singles in the States were that inexpensive.
nah cd’s i know with more than 3 songs are higher than that.
You’re welcome
and I don’t think all American artists sell them as cheap as WGs sold theirs.
Probably since they won over some of those Jonas fans they actually did better then Utada and BoA this year surprisedly, I still haven’t heard them on the radio, but o wait..well damn i live in a small city with not many asians and who actually care bout kpop also.
i know i never heard it at all on the radio. well the power of the jonas bros fans and the jonas bros themselves
This PS! writer needs to change “album sales” to “SINGLE sales” for Mariah Carey and that other artist. There’s no a way a Mariah album sold 30k, and Obsessed DID NOT sell 20k total; it sold 20k THIS WEEK, since it’s been out for WEEKS already.
They are so going to fall off by next week.
They’ve been depending on their fans’ and how many times they purchase the same song, since it’s $1, cause no radios are playing them. Hot 100 is radio AND sales, so unless they strengthen their airplay, they won’t be staying there for much longer.
It was album sales. They have an album out with three songs on it (Nobody remix version, Nobody, and Nobody karaoke). They’re saying they outsold her THIS WEEK. Of course Mariah has sold more albums than that lol
we call that a single. it is only one song but different remizes
remixes
True
It can’t be an ALBUM because HOT 100 COUNTS SINGLES, not albums. Plus, “Obsessed” by Mariah IS NOT an album, it’s a single that’s been out since the summer.
And 3 songs isn’t an album. haha
The article didn’t say they counted the album sales towards the Hot 100. It was just another piece of information they added to the article. And I also don’t believe it can be considered an album, but apparently it is.
Yeah, I mentioned albums, because the author said that “Obsessed” ALBUM sales were ____. Obsessed is a single. We’re talking WG on Hot 100 for their Nobody single. It’s an inaccurate comparison on their part.
lol Nobody is just a single, that’s why it charted on Hot 100, not Billboard 200.
All right
I think I understand what you were trying to say now. Sorry!
I have a question though (anyone who knows feel free to answer): I thought billboard was based on airplay, album sales, and digital downloads. If that’s not it than what is it based on?
It is. Hot 100 specifically counts radio play & sales. American singles must be selling slow this week for 30k to nab a #76 spot in 100, despite the artist having literally no plays.
Which is why, if they want to stay on, they have to get radios to start playing their music. 65 spins a week isn’t going to cut it, that’s how much indie artists get, not mainstream ones.
Well hopefully now they’ll get more radioplay.
Oh my god, they out-sold Mariah Carey? Well done, ladies.
For this week yes
Yeah, they outsold Obessed this week, which has been out for eons. That doesn’t mean anything. Obsessed might be charting for a while…
Anyway, 30k is not a big deal, anyway…maybe for single? Koreans will be in AWE because albums NEVER sell there…they’re all on cloud 9 when albunms sell 30k copies. Ridiculous.
Still, WG is teenybop music and they prolly made it on there because they have a merch stand at the JoBro concerts.
The power of asian americans! lol
I’ll celebrate when they actually make a true “splash” in the states!
nah more like the power of having jonas bros connections.
congrats!!!!!!!!!!!
but…i haven’t even heard their music in the public (radio, tv, etc.)
well, i’m sure those copies were bought by korean-americans. i don’t think americans will have the interest in getting a copy of their cd. no, they will not waste their money. but i will not contest if americans like to listen to their songs. anyway, who doesn’t like listening to trendy/novelty songs? we all do but wonder girls songs will remain a fad. it will not linger long enough to sustain the attention they’re getting there. at the end of the day the americans will stick to talents.
i think it would be the opposite ; koreans heard it so much already it’s annoying so why would korean-americans buy it .?
very true. Besides, this isn’t even a novelty song…novetly songs are usually spread as internet memes.
Yeah, Asian Americans don’t make it big here..yet. But while Japanese artists HAVE been getting a ton of fans, Korean music and structure and buisness models are all DATED and REALLY BAD. Remember the Pink Ladies? They were certainly a phase.
congrats <33
but new song please .
yay for the wonder girls
wowowo Wonder Girls made it Congrats.
yeeeeee!!!! WonderGirls!!!!
“Obsessed” is garbage anyways, however I didn’t hear Maxwell is back. It’s been a long time.
In America, they’re called “singles”, so writing “album” is pretty misleading >.>
I wonder how many copies hardchore fans bought, since they were only $1 each (not trashing, just wondering. If I saw a single that was hard to find and only $1, I’d buy more than one copy, too)
Hoping that they’ll have a new album..
i bet jyp probably bought his own records to increase the sale cuz errr i still havent heard of them yet in ny, so i don’t know about that. once i hear them on z100 then maybe.
We don’t have mini albums over here. Three singles does not an album make in the U.S.ofA.
And no, they are not ‘making it’ in America. The people who are hearing them on the radio must live on the coasts, because in the Midwest, they are ‘Nobody’, lol. If they stepped outside of stepped outside of KoreaTown, trust me, they could walk down the street and not be bothered by anybody.
Like someone else posted, only Korean-Americans bought their single..maybe a few other ethnicities of Asians…that’s it.
They sold good and did well among their own ethnicity/race. In that respect, yes, they made it. I know yall want to give good ‘face’…’FIGHTING!’ or whatever, but don’t resort to lying. It makes yall look bad when it doesn’t add up.
It was not just Asians who bought it. The majority of them were, but to say ONLY Asians did is ridiculous.
yay!
It’s pretty much amazing that JYP can lead the WonderGirls up to the billboard. But anyway, they won’t last long. The next thing you know is the WonderGirls are back in Korea again. Trust me.
WELL YEA THAT”S WHERE THEY ARE FROM .
That’s why I said “Trust me”
Tch.
That’s great for them ! I’m Happy
. But, Sadly, No One I Know, Know Who They Are
WOOOOOW FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS SITE WRITES SOMETHING POSITIVE ABOUT THE WONDERGIRLS
Aw, that’s good news.
Hopefully things will head in the same direction for future stars. ^^
why can i not get myself to like the wondergirls..
its still cool that they’re breaking into the US scene though
really? shocking….
their english sounds terrible in that song…and its not even a good song in the first place. it sounds so 1998. i must say…im shocked.
but i must agree..it wont last long. give it another few months…they’ll be back.
saw them at verizon last time!!~ omg i love them so much!!

this is the excerpt from the link:
This young filipina singing sensation making it big not only in the local and international music scene continues to impress everyone when “Note To God” took the 44th spot at Billboard 100 chart.
“Note to God” debuted at 44th spot of Billboard Hot 100 and 35th spot in Canadian 100 on issue date June 4, 2009.
This is the first Filipino artist making it again in the billboard charts after Jaya Ramsey made it to no. 44 in February 1990.
for me, it’s just an another average song, there is no special things about the song anyway i don’t care
And what did I tell everybody, THEY’RE OFF BILLBOARD and forgotten. Told you so!
“One day, we’ll see an Asian holding the #1 spot on the Billboard.”
Actually, two Asian solo artists have already held the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100: Kyu Sakamoto in June 1963 and Jay Sean in October 2009.
i think albums and songs being in the billboard chart hot 100 of usa isn’t worth the price of being famous and great for me having your countryman saying your their idol and that they listen to your music a lot is already a good smypathy what’s with being famous in parts of the world while your countryman does not love you we dont need u.s chart’s for us to know their great artist with nice vocals with this thing it’s like we are proving that u.s is a judge of our talents they are our talents we have them what’s with american’s being famous in such part of the world it’s like we’re proving their great and our talents are not so what’s being in BILLBOARD CHART HOT 100 of u.s while your already famous in your country it’s just the money but not the greatness and legacy!?
