Big Bang does Time

Bigbang_091030a

Big Bang was given a nod of acknowledgement by Time Magazine.

The weekly news magazine gave the boys a short write-up introducing them as one of the most promising groups in Korea. Do you agree? It must have been a slow news day.

Was this really useful or what?

Why is the article dated November 9? Its still October. No offense to BB but TIME Magazine has no street credit with the music industry. When ROLLING STONE writes up a article on them call me. Until than no; you can tell the people at TIME have no idea what they are talking about.

They must have just did a Google search and called it a day.

it means they will feature in the next issue on November 9th, time magazine is good too considering they aren’t a music orientated magazine.

Why would I be jealous, dear? When I breath it is for me, not for anyone else. Life is to beautiful to sit and be angry at what others have. The comment was a honest opinion of the TIME’s article. You should read others comments to the this topic that are unflattering. : )

    • 9 berbux November 2, 2009 at 6:21 am

you’re probably right, Lily. But it reminds me of biggest names in the music industry that appeared in the cover of TIMEs like….Michael Jackson and Madonna!!!

I said it again. BB is probably one of the few Korean performers that could actually make it internationally (outside of East Asia). THey have that something about them and they are still unique to themselves. As long as they don’t water themselves down at come out strong they would make it.

    • 11 Jay October 31, 2009 at 6:44 pm

Actually, I think it’ll be tough. Could you see someone with G-Dragon’s style making it onto MTV America? Their music is heavily derived American hip-hop/rap/R&B groups, so Big Bang isn’t really bringing anything new (although their new Japanese single is a fresh direction!) I don’t hate BB or anything… I wish them well, but I’m trying to be realistic.

      • 12 pumpkin November 1, 2009 at 3:29 pm

i agree with you.i like big bang well enough, but if they want to succeed outside of east asia, they need something more than just their ethnicity as a selling point because frankly, their music isn’t all that different from a lot of other groups in their music genre that are also trying to break into the us.

    • 13 skimfan November 3, 2009 at 8:35 am

There’s nothing unique about BB other than they’re korean. They’re mimickers, plain and simple. They just do & try to look like what’s already out there and just doing it in korean. What’s special about that? You go to any country in the world and you’ll see native groups doing their own version of hip-hop/r&b/pop.

Go Big Bang! Although my #1 spot still belongs to DBSK <3

  6. 15 anonymous October 31, 2009 at 5:10 pm

Did anyone else go to the site and realize that right under the title it said univeral music? It honestly sounds like a paid plug to me. I like BB, they are good group, but this isn’t that big of a deal.

Yeah, I think Big Bang could make it in the USA, provided Sony/Universal does not screw up their reputation with more fake stories like this one about Koreans just now about to crack into the Japanese market.

That’s pretty awesome to have an article in a reputable magazine like TIME.

  20. 32 kitsune26 November 2, 2009 at 2:43 am

it must have been a VERY slow news day. however, i think that if they work on their Japanese & English skills, they could be successful. G-Dragon has got to go, though. that kid is SOOOO not a fashion icon. he’s completely un-original.

  21. 33 diamond_wings November 2, 2009 at 4:01 am

    OFCOURSE! IT’s true! wooohoooo!

  22. 34 Sandara November 2, 2009 at 4:06 am

I wonder how much Yang HyunSeok paid that journalist to write up a story saying that Big Bang would be the first Korean group to be popular as a group in the Japanese market, to trick readers in the US?

    • 35 kbig November 4, 2009 at 12:23 am

read again my dear, this post said “most promising” and i read the original article of TIME myself, i didnt find any sentence like “Big Bang would be the first Korean group to be popular as a group in the Japanese market” like u wrote in your comment.
get the fact straight before u comment, babie!!!!

  23. 36 anonymouslywhatever November 2, 2009 at 12:45 pm

Which is why I said the right producers. THe Asian thing is not there only point. And in the hands of the right producer, magic would happen. Is all I am saying

  24. 37 shinhbang November 3, 2009 at 7:34 am

OH YES! They are promising! I mean gosh! This band is amazing!

  25. 38 coffy November 3, 2009 at 8:25 am

You’re fooling yourself if you think Big bang would get anywhere in the states. It’s been stated before, but they would indeed be laughed off the stage with their hip-hop/r&b posing and the fact that that they are literally midgets. Where’s the appeal, it’s not in being asian. Do you realize how many asian groups/artists try to make it in the US? And we’re talking asian-americans! Jin couldn’t even “make it” in the hip-hop scene and he has the actual skills and respect within the community to make a serious attempt at it.

  26. 39 tang November 3, 2009 at 10:26 am

    yay Big Bang <3

  27. 40 Anne November 4, 2009 at 4:33 am

Im so happy that Asian bands are making name in North America. Cuz all asian pplz know Michael Jackson and all the top American bands, and I’m glad the other way around is happening too.

  28. 41 woo November 4, 2009 at 1:02 pm

it’s a BIG thing to be on the cover of TIME mag.
