Wondergirls say goodbye to Korea

wondergirls_091103

For good?

Probably not.

The Wonder Girls will be returning back to the U.S. to resume their conquest of the North American music market.

The 5 members will board a flight on either November 7 or 8th and will dive into promotional activities that will include interviews and TV appearances. While in the motherland for 2 weeks, the girls flew to China for 2D1N promotions. They will appear as guests with their mentor, Park Jin -young on Golden Fishery to share their experiences in the U.S. Let’s hope that a certain someone does not cry again.

  3. 9 Beckbeck November 3, 2009 at 2:43 pm

No please don’t come back! It’s okay! Stay in Korea! There’s enough bad singers and musicians here we don’t need more!

  4. 10 YES YES YES November 3, 2009 at 2:43 pm

Thats good. But everytime I hear the Wondergirls Nobody starts to play in my head.

  5. 11 YeEunFan November 3, 2009 at 2:52 pm

Glad they’re keeping at it. And honestly PS, why does it matter if she cries or not? If she feels like crying she should be able to.

  6. 12 ax04 November 3, 2009 at 3:09 pm

What are you trying to say Popseoul?

Are the Wondergirl’s not allowed to cry now?

They might be trying to break into the U.S. entertainment business (whether you like it or not) but that doesn’t mean they can’t have/show emotions about missing their homeland and its people!

  7. 13 hmmmmm November 3, 2009 at 3:40 pm

Good luck in the states! They’re gonna need it!
I still say don’t even bother…..they don’t have enough talent!

  8. 14 JaaanLeeyy November 3, 2009 at 4:34 pm

    Goodluck Wonder Girls ! ^_^

  9. 15 Raphael Lim November 3, 2009 at 5:23 pm

We need more Asian Entertainment in Perth, Australia !!!

    We so dry man

  10. 16 skimfan November 3, 2009 at 5:42 pm

Their conquest!? Hahahaha! I think they spent a hot second on the Billboard 100 chart! I guess some people think that’s spectacular, but it ain’t. When you stay there for at least a few weeks, then that’s great. And I second one of the above posters in requesting they please stay in korea! There are enough english speaking, non-singing artists we have to endure, we don’t need ones that can’t even speak for themselves in english, let alone “try” to sing in it!

    • 17 YeEunFan November 3, 2009 at 7:55 pm

Funny how before you were the one saying they’d never make it on important charts like billboard, and when they do it’s suddenly not important. Way to change your tune.

      • 18 skimfan November 4, 2009 at 3:37 am

Nah, not funny, just proved to me how far Jyp’s money could reach. Not far, but enough to buy up radio space to get on that chart for a second. However, the money, like the wgs “talent” has no staying power as has been proved.

    • 23 troll alert! November 5, 2009 at 4:22 am

      beware.

  11. 24 ToldUso November 3, 2009 at 5:42 pm

What are they gonna do in the States now? Just make more crap and have JYP try to play it off like it’s a HUGE success in America. I wonder how long it’ll take for them to fly back to Korea for good….. Just face it, WG will be back in Korea long before they become noticed. Also, their debut CD, won’t sell….

    • 25 YeEunFan November 3, 2009 at 7:58 pm

JYP never played it off as a huge success. He obviously thought it was a good thing but predicted they wouldn’t be on it the next week, and they weren’t. They know they haven’t made it.

  12. 26 Se7enthSin November 3, 2009 at 6:40 pm

WG’s are just puppets for JYP to play with. Goining to the US only benefits JYP. JYP really wants the spotlight for himself and uses his most popular acts RAIN then WG to keep himself current.

Unfortunately this is a bad move for the WG’s. I don’t think the WG’s will ever regain the popularity and momentum they once had in Korea. They were the darlings of Korea and had a good strong hold in Asia. Going back to the US without trying to reestablishing their presence in Korea will only hurt them since there are so many new hot females groups. Maybe JYP knows this and realizes WG best chance is to stay in the STATES.

As much as I like the WG. They really are HAS BEENS now. I can’t see the WG competing with the new KPOP female groups. Can you image them doing any of the new dance trends… like chest pumping and popping. Not really. The WG’s have pretty much pigeon holed themselves with their dance moves from 5 yrs ago and they funky retro 60’s look.

Don’t think they will last too long with the Daddy Jonas management group. Daddy Jonas, probably has an Asian fetish and thought he could bank on the WG’s past success here in the States, rather than producing/promoting a local group from the States. Daddy Jonas will probably give JYP & the WG’s one last push. If Nobody, doesn’t move up in the US Charts and/or their new CD fails. Daddy Jonas will cut his losses, and JYP will be dragging the WG’s back to the STATES.

    • 27 Amee November 4, 2009 at 2:47 am

*yawn* Yeah, because you are the great keeper of knowledge….

    • 29 coffy November 4, 2009 at 3:46 am

I agree with most of what you’re saying and remember, the Jonas Brothers are going the same way Miley Cyrus is…down. They’re not as popular as they once were, they were everywhere, now they’re not. During the tour, people(most)could care less about the wgs and eventhough daddy jonas were introducing the girls and hyping them up, it still didn’t make a difference; and this was during the high time of jonas popularity. Jyp paid his way onto that tour and continues to try to pay his way into the US music scene, but it won’t work. Sure he’ll achieve temp stuff, but will never reach the heights he really wants, at least, not with the wgs. He would do better off using his huge resources to develop asian-american/korean-american talent cause there’s a lot out here and they’re getting ignored by american labels. He could really make a difference in that area.

      • 30 kagero November 4, 2009 at 4:22 am

YeEunFan is so hardcore, totally defending everything that the WG do! That’s what being a fan is all about…

But nonetheless truth be told as much I would love to see an Asian group here succeed I honestly don’t think that it will be the WG. I think that its great that they got to see and experience the Jobros tour and they got to see more of American than most of us that live here get to see…but at the same time, their style of music isn’t what appeals to Americans, at least those of is that are older, not teenagers and Disney fans…

At the same time what’s the point of JYP having American trainees when all he does is send them to Korea, whereas he could take advantage of the fact that since they are American, they don’t have overcome things such as language barriers…

He should just keep them in Korea…and stop trying to live his dream through them!

        • 31 NIna November 4, 2009 at 1:47 pm

Well said man i just hate WG be one of soooooo many FAILED asian artist try to break into US market…

      agree much!!

seriously even Coco Lee who’s a great voalist … regine from the Philipines who is being compared as asian mariah carey … only last with one major hit single and then disappeared..

  16. 39 geez November 3, 2009 at 11:55 pm

Going back to the USA? WG are so dead. But then, JYP has 2PM to rake in the moolah for him in Korea.

  17. 40 more November 4, 2009 at 11:57 am

The American market is a lot harder to break through then the korean market. We already seen it all and because of that we expect more from artist WG are no exception. trying to satisfy their Korean fans as well as the American people wont work they need to focus on one because American have different taste then Koreans.

  18. 41 tonii November 4, 2009 at 12:34 pm

    comeback!!stay in korea,or asia!!

  19. 42 woo November 4, 2009 at 1:08 pm

i’m not a Wondergirls hater but i think this(album) won’t “click” in the States. States?? it just seems sooo big! haha. they can’t even speak english fluently(although Yenny’s like… improving now). everytime i hear wondergirls’ name, the crappy english version of Nobody popps up my mind! h*ll yeeah, it’s creepy! LOL.

*but despite this, hmm. still wishing you good experience in the US. P.S. i like Gee. (^__~)

  20. 46 frog November 4, 2009 at 1:56 pm

    Aint gonna happen Sorry girls

American market= anti asian XD get it?

  21. 47 OvO November 4, 2009 at 4:04 pm

    they don’t have enough talent???
    BS!!!
they don’t need the talent…well, maybe they do…but
they just need good promotions and be out there and be active in public more!!!
they made it to the top 100 on billboards…what makes you think they won’t surpass that???
it’s not like they are miley cyrus…an over-rated teenage girl with over-rated songs…
the girls will need lots of lucks and lots of support
if you want to see them mainstream into the american industry, you gotta support!!!

    • 48 starchild November 5, 2009 at 12:06 pm

They’ve already dropped off that billboard 100 chart. They were on it for like 1 minute! I dislike Miley Cyrus, but you can’t compare the wgs to her. She’s all american, the wgs are foreigners who can’t even speak english good, that makes a big difference. Again, don’t even try to come back with Shakira either, she’s got a ready-made audience and got the moves and uniqueness to make it.

    • 50 ToldUso November 4, 2009 at 7:25 pm

Hate is too strong of a word for them…just dislike or don’t care. Also, they’re now posting they’re performing @ q102 Jingle Ball…LAME. They aren’t even the featured artist. Their picture is all small and it just says a performance by them. Massive fail. If they were respected and/or known, they wouldve gotten their own massive picture bubble, instead they got pushed aside like yesterday’s leftovers. LOL. Just stay in Korea WG, you aren’t doing anything that’s worthwhile in America.

      • 51 YeEunFan November 5, 2009 at 5:32 am

How is getting exposure lame? And of course they won’t be a featured artist. They’re not well-known yet and they only have one English song out. I’m not sure who you’ve been talking to that told you they’re well-known now, but you should probably stop because they’re not very smart. :)

        • 52 starchild November 5, 2009 at 12:12 pm

There’s a difference between good and bad exposure. After the wgs perform, that exposure becomes a bad one. It would be a big difference if they came out and gave a talented, exciting performance, but they don’t and therefore people just dismiss them as some foreign oddity. Charice has gotten amazing exposure, not because her manager has managed to get her on oprah and other appearances, but after people hear her, they could care less about her nationality. Her talent grabs people’s attention in a positive way. That’s what real music is about.

          • 53 YeEunFan November 5, 2009 at 1:11 pm

Once again, it’s your opinion that it would be bad exposure, not a fact. I’m sure some people may not like them, but some people will. Charice is a great singer no doubt, but she has haters too. Also, how does WGs music grab attention in a “negative way?”

            • 54 Fanatic10 November 5, 2009 at 6:29 pm

Everybody has haters. As you get more popular, you’ll get more haters, but for the most part, as long as you have a bigger group of fans, then it’s all good. Charice has thousands, if not millions of fans already and she barely started her American career. I agree, she has massive talent. She puts the crowd in awe. I can’t help but to search up more of her performances. She is that good to so many. I mean, she didn’t even have an agent or a manager before & she got invited to Oprah/Ellen/Star King, etc. I have to give credit to Star King and all of Korea for finding her. From that performance to where she’s at now, it’s amazing. She’s apparently on a tour right now w/ her producer, David Foster. AND SHE DOESN’T EVEN HAVE HER DEBUT ALBUM RELEASED YET! IN-SANE! She released a Christmas duet w/ David Archuleta & she contributed to the “A Very Special Christmas Vol. 7″ album (which includes Miley Cyrus, Carrie Underwood, Sean Kingston, Colbie Caillat, etc.) In my opinion, if you cross over as an artist, you shouldn’t even bother with your old music. Charice & the WG need to just come up with new music & never even try to promote their previous albums. Just leave it. If you want to succeed, don’t bring any of your past albums/songs. You’re in AMERICA! There’s a reason why music from your country doesn’t turn popular in America. So, I say to crossover artists, STEP IT UP!

              • 55 coffy November 6, 2009 at 1:04 pm

Please, it’s an insult to put Charice and the wgs together in a sentence, as if they’re of equal talents. Yeah, Charice needs and with all the backing she’s getting, will get better material. The wgs, however, could have the best songs, they still couldn’t pull it off.

  22. 56 psssh. November 5, 2009 at 1:31 pm

WHY DOES SOHEE ALWAYS LOOK LIKE A SPOILED BRAT IN EVERY PICTURE IN EVERY MV AND IN EVERY PREFORMANCE. GOOD GOD, IF YOU WANT TO LEAVE, SOHEE, PLEASE DO.

  23. 57 kiyote November 5, 2009 at 1:52 pm

oyeah. i stand corrected. what i meant was tell me. :D D

  26. 60 woo. November 5, 2009 at 4:19 pm

starchild?? can i just ask if what’s ur nationality?

    • 61 starchild November 5, 2009 at 6:32 pm

What does it matter? I’m Korean American…and???

    • 62 Kor3a November 5, 2009 at 6:38 pm

What’s with this whole nationality question? Does it matter if people who are on this are Korean or not? Or if they’re Asian or not?…etc. I thought this site was devoted to all those who knew what K-Pop was?..fans AND/OR haters. Besides, 2NE1 has a better bet than the WG. Sucks they won’t be releasing their album til next year though…tsk. 2NE1 FIGHTING! Lol.

      • 63 xxxxxx November 6, 2009 at 4:55 am

@woo, why the question on nationality? Are you weighing starchild’s opinion based on her nationality?!@$%

@starchild and @Fanatic10, completely agree with your opinions. I am all for Asian artists trying to break into the American market and I understand the motivation BUT please bring somethi ng new to the table. It is the recession here in the US. Honestly, and sorry to WG fans, I will not use my hard-earned $1 to downloaad “Nobody” from itunes. I am making an exception to that Charice girl. I shelled out $125.00+ to watch her sing possibly 3-4 songs only on the David Foster and Friends LA show tonight. Her voice compels me to see her LIVE.

I am not a businessman but I wonder if going the Jonas/Disney route is the right way. Even assuming WG breaks into the US tween market, but really, how many Disney artists have made the cross-over (except Britney Spears) to the 18+ market after their 30 minutes of fame in the tween market? This is why Disney talents are not taken seriously in the US. Their fame is so temporary.

        • 64 xxxxxx November 6, 2009 at 4:58 am

sorry for the typos – something, download,

          • 65 Fanatic10 November 6, 2009 at 7:37 am

Totally agree. Going the Disney route is never recommended. Sure, it gets you on TV, but look at your audience/viewers/”fans”….KIDS..little immature weirdo kids. All of them are too obsessed. This is why Disney stars are never respected. The current “stars” from Disney right now, will not go past what they’ve done with Disney. As you can tell, the “JO BROS” are slowly becoming even more unpopular with everybody. The tweens are getting older. Remember Hillary Duff? Look where she’s at now since she left Disney. All of these Disney acts are all useless in a couple of months. Their fans GROW UP and realize it’s just for kids so it’s sad (not really), but their fanbase will ALWAYS be kids. One more example, 2 words (or 3) HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL….where are they now?

            • 66 Ewokie November 6, 2009 at 7:45 am

Yeah… Hillary Duff has totally gone downhill…. look at her… getting a role on Gossip Girl! What a black mark on her career! Not.
