Lee Kwan-ki’s 7 year old son struck down by H1N1

lee suk kyu

Oh my goodness!

Lee Kwan-ki’s 7 year old son, Lee Suk-kyu, passed away on November 8th. He was originally hospitalized under the suspicion of contracting swine flu on November 6th. However, the media later reported that the cause of his death was pneumonia. But Newsen.com received confirmation from Ilsan Hospital that Lee Suk-kyu tested positive for the H1N1 virus and was prescribed 5 day dosage of Tamiflu vaccine.

We can’t imagine the unbearable pain of losing one’s child. We at POPSEOUL! would like to extend our condolences to Lee Kwan-ki and his family.R.I.P.

F.Y.I.

With the rapid spread of the H1N1 virus in Korea, prevention is key. Here are some tips as a reminder (1) wash your hands for at least 1 minute with soap and water (2) do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth after being out in crowded areas (3) if you must sneeze or cough, do so in your elbow, not in your hands (4) wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth (5) get vaccinated!

that’s so sad =*( my condolences to the family. The parents was most likely sure that their son could recover and then to have him pass away so suddenly. So many koreans are getting swine flu. I hope from this news that they’re taking extra steps to be more vigilant about flu prevention.

It’s horrible to hear about children dying :[

So did he have H1N1 or not?

If so, the H1N1 CAUSED the pneumonia.

i don’t trust the tamiflu vaccine… i heard it inserts a weakened swine flu into your body and your body fights it and becomes immune to it. this is so that when you catch the actual swine flu, your body is already immune to it so it won’t affect you.

but if your immune system is really weak and you get the tamiflu vaccine.. the weakened swine flu in the vaccine could be bad for you. i might be wrong but i heard this from medical student/friend of mine..

and plus that incident of the cheerleader in america who got the tamiflu vaccine–she’s become disabled.

    • 21 xxxxxx November 9, 2009 at 3:41 am

@someone, please keep your facts straight especially in this time of the H1N1 pandemic where people, especially children and pregnant women, are dying because of the virus. Since this is a k-pop blog, I do not wish to turn this discussion into be a medical discussion. However, people should stop spreading false information because that in itself is dangerous.

There is no tamiflu vaccine. The vaccine is called the H1N1 vaccine. Tamiflu is the available medication for those infected by the H1N1 virus.

There are two (2) types of H1N1 vaccine – the flu injectable (“shot”) vaccine and the mist (“nasal spray”). The injectable is made with an inactivated H1N1 virus where the virus was altered so it cannot reproduce in the body and cause infection. This is recommended for people with weakened immune system. On the other hand, the mist is an attenuated or weakened virus where the virus will reproduce inside the body in order to confer immunity but because it is a weakened virus, it cannot cause influenza illness.

While the H1N1 vaccine is new, it is still an influenza vaccine and produced in much the same way as the influenza vaccines have been for decades – same process and materials but slightly different virus. We get influenza vaccine every year, right?

Getting vaccination is a personal decision but it should be an informed decision. Casually spreading false information, whether intentional or not, is not helping in the fight against the pandemic.

    • 22 sticker November 9, 2009 at 6:23 am

      I agree with xxxxx.
First of all Tamiflu is not a vaccine, but it’s an antiviral drug. Totally different.
Second of all people who have a weak immune system are the people who SHOULD get it, like HIV infected persons. If you think like this, you really shouldn’t take any vaccins at all. Because this is the principle of every vaccine out there, not just the flu one.
Third of all, I had the vaccine 2 weeks ago and I’m totally fine, it’s like any other seasonal flu shot.

Stop spreading lies, it can harm other people, who may think of getting the vaccine.

      • 23 melonbread November 9, 2009 at 4:38 pm

agree with both of the top posters. Nearly every single vaccine injects a weakened version of the virus, or modified version of the virus into your body so that your system creates antibodies to fight off other possible infections.

After going to a conference earlier this year I got H1N1 – as did all my peers who attended the conference. The reason for this was that H1N1 is a new strain of the virus, so most people have not created immunity to the strain yet.

        • 24 mimerz November 9, 2009 at 4:49 pm

Pharma is number 1 in industry. You can $$$trust$$$ them, ok. They won’t put harmful things in your vaccines and they sure want to cure cancer because it’s not like they enjoy making money off of treating the ill with their pills and such.

H1N1 was patented before it broke out. The vaccine was patented soon after. It was created in a lab. Look it up. Don’t trust the news from mainstream media because pharma owns them, too. Google it.

          • 25 sticker November 12, 2009 at 6:11 am

            here we go complotthinkers

You mean the russian h1n1 in 1977, yeah that happened because of an lab accident.

Yes the farmacological industry wants to make money like any other industry and human being, does that automatically means that they only produce crap?

        peace!!

    • 39 lala November 9, 2009 at 9:53 am

I still don’t get why we can’t feel sorry for him? Are you an idiot or sth? So if we act like you said, everytime someone die, if we can’t make them back to life, then we should just ignore it or feel happy for them? And of course his parents are happy to have a son like him, that’s why when he died, they’d feel devastated, so us feeling sorry for them and the son is understandable. What’s the problem with you? STUPID.

      • 40 .... November 9, 2009 at 2:30 pm

your the one thats STUPID!!your not getting what i am trying to say–so shut up if you dont understand ok!!
anyways-isnt that what us people do??later on we all become happy and what diffrence does it make to you that he died??YOU JUST FEEL SORRY FOR THE GUY AND PITY THE PARENTS AND THATS ALL!!but why do you feel sorry huh??why do pity huh??

        • 41 lilly November 9, 2009 at 6:29 pm

WHAT THE F-CK IS YOUR PROBLEM? GAWD!

I HOPE YOU DIE AND GO TO HELL.

            @…
umm. ok, that’s it, you don’t have a heart.
            finished. full stop.
i get your point but you are aparently wrong.
you don’t have a soul to feel pity or sorry for this little child.
i’m actually wondering right now if you are a human…
it’s sad that there are some people out there, whos like you. so cruel and violent in words.

we pity because we have something called hearts and emotions. and we feel sorry because he didn’t have/ get a chance to have a long enough life to enjoy and have fun and love others unlike you who seems so cold and unloving. you are not stupid, you are cruel and rude and heartless.

Sad for any parent to lose a child.

As for vaccine and Tamiflu use, everyone owes their health to reading the information inserts on both-you could get side effects so make INFORMED decisions (on whether you will take the chance on either or not). Tamiflu does not prevent the flu, only supposedly helps to deal with flu.

As for the standard fallback line that when someone passes away from swine flu, the deceased died from something else-don’t believe everything you read. There must be a public relations reason that the line is repeated in every mention of a death.

  32. 52 dooseob November 9, 2009 at 2:06 pm

hmm as a person in the medical field…havta comment:D… tamiflu is an oral medication NOT a vaccine!! there is an h1n1 vaccine however… :D

My deepest condolences to Lee Kwang ki and his family their little boy is a year older than my nephews they thought he had h1n1 he had all the symptoms it turned out to be pneumonia however he has asthma too so it got worse he is okay now thank God.this just reminds everyone just how bad this h1n1 can be.Here in the States only CEO big companies are somehow going through political channels to get vaccines before the all the children get the shot first it just shows that here in America if you have a lot of money you can buy even a vaccine that poor people need but as usual we will be the ones to suffer with out it because we can’t pay for it. our government is to busy worrying about the Olympics and what is going airing on Fox News and MTV rappers than worrying about H1N1.My prayers are with you.Condolences from New Hampshire United States
