BoA turns producer

boa_hannah_20091113

…in time for her 10th year debut anniversary.

BoA, who will be commemorating her 10th year as an artist, since her debut in 2000, will try a hand at producing her own album. On the 13th, an SM Entertainment official announced that BoA will be producing her own 7th Japanese album which is scheduled to be released on January 13th, 2010.

In BoA’s upcoming Japanese album, she will include a number of self-composed songs, her current Japanese single, “Bump Bump!”, soon to be released single, “White Wishes” as well as collaborations with various other artists.

Although plans for BoA’s future in Japan looks well though out, unfortunately fans in Korea will have to wait to see if BoA will be returning to the motherland for a comeback in 2010.

BOA is looking more women these days. And she never coming back to Korea. There’s nothing there for her.

I’m waiting! She still is awesome and hardworking compared to most artists today in the new generation of kpop and jpop. She still hails as the queennn. I wanna see a female sing and also “outdance her”, haven’t seen one in decades in Asia yet to conquer like BoA has done, maybe a few people but not like she has done. She made her mark and will continue..ya!!

I use to love BoA, but her new music just hasn’t been doing it for me. I hope her new album is better…

Oh, and BoA is no longer Korean, she is Japanese. I can’t blame her for no going to Korea. You can’t do anything with out people throwing stones your way.

Hurray the BoA’s producing her next album. She must feel confident enough to take on the project. Hope she does the same with future English albums too.

finally she’s doing something on her own for once.
and yeah, no ones really waiting for her in Korea anymore. Way to ditch your own country. Way to go.

Great, things are doing alright for BoA and what about DBSK? Just great SME.. Just GREAT..
Anyway, best of luck to BoA in succeeding as a producer for her up coming album?

BoA as a producer of her own songs? I’d like to see what she whips out next year. ^^

She’s not exactly the strongest vocalist we’ve ever seen. The standard in Korea has changed. She doesn’t have an R&B/Ballad voice to compete with the non-pop artists. The artists that are doing pop are all substantially younger than she is, and even then so, many of them are beyond her vocally.

She is an amazing dancer, and has amazing stage presence and charisma. Her experience and the amount of knowledge she possesses can help her to run circles around many artists in Korea – but will that help her sell albums? Probably not.

Nonetheless, she’s been cross-marketed between Japan and Korea since day one. She started her training IN JAPAN. She didn’t ditch her own country, she just became irrelevant in the ever-changing industry that Korea’s music scene exemplifies. Her labels decided that it would be fiscally wiser to market her in Japan – where she is still quite relevant and rather popular.

And as for Amee’s comments up above, bashing her was completely without merit [진상이란말이 너무 심하지 아냐?]. She spoke figuratively and it made complete sense.

A substantial reason BoA is also less relevant in Korea is because she has her focus in Japan [and the US as well]. BoA has assimilated quite well within Japanese culture, and her Japanese language skill has become quite fantastic over the past ten years. If you saw her on variety shows and heard her speak, you wouldn’t know she was Korean without prior knowledge or someone else telling you.

…and as for the comment on stones being thrown your way, it’s pretty much the painful truth. Take a look at the social dynamic in the country. Superficial trends further propagated by the media [얼짱, 몸짱], and then a strong distaste for Japan that many older-generation [and even some younger generation] Koreans still hold deep inside their hearts. Add a bit of 옛날 racism and xenophobia and you get another angle to consider. The entertainment industry is a rough sea to navigate, but in Korea, the standards are higher and the country is smaller – there’s not a lot of room for error.

I, for one, am excited to see what her life experiences have done for her production ability. It’s going to be interesting.

I get that BoA is much less relevant in Korea now with her activity heavily focused in Japan plus plethora of new girl groups debuting everyday. If she spoke “figuratively” to describe this phenomenon I’m sorry that I was too dense to see it through. With Amee’s later comment, though, it became clear she really thinks (or hopes) that’s the case. lol

To say that she’s Japanese just because she’s focusing her work in Japan is quite offensive to Koreans who already had the history of losing their nationality to them. 이런놈들은 쓴맛좀봐야되요…왕재수..

I don’t think or hope anything. I was stating what I have read some Koreans say! Yes! SOME Koreans think of BoA more of a Japanese person. And I’m just saying in a way I agree with them.

Don’t take the things I say and try and act like I’m trying to be “offensive”. I’m not.

      EXACTLY. Thumbs up, Ming.
I don’t agree about the charisma/stage presence in her recent years, but everything else is 100% right.

      • 29 Ehh. November 15, 2009 at 11:03 am

About Korea, there’s nothing for her there.
The market is small, saturated with GROUPS, and on top of that, the top-selling artists earn next to nothing. Korea is more work for a lot less pay.
        And SM realizes that.

  14. 31 ALSAN November 15, 2009 at 9:59 am

BoA likes it up the butt.
    With a beat.

  15. 32 Ehh. November 15, 2009 at 11:06 am

I can’t wait to see what she produces.
Not because I think she’ll be excellent or anything, but because I’ve seen very little from her personally.
She’s written a few songs, but a lot are co-compositions, and her full compositions were done when she was 15 with only 2 years of experience.
She has ten years now, and hopefully, she has some talent in the area. It would be great if she could crossover into the producing/composing business.

  16. 34 SuperJuniorLover6666666666 November 16, 2009 at 6:58 am

Wait… i thought she was in America right now…. I gotta get my facts straight..

    • 35 Minh-ah November 17, 2009 at 11:51 am

She’s pretty much done with America for the moment. She literally went no where here. This attempt at the American market is being viewed as a failure.

I wonder how this will turn out, hopefully it’ll give her the push she needs. Her fan base in Japan is less than 1/3 of what it used to be.
