Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) was held at Seoul’s Jamsil Indoor Stadium on November 21st. Despite big names such as Lee Hyori & Son Dambi no show and boycotts by SM entertainment & trot singers, the event was still a success. Check out the red carpet photos and winners below.

Super Junior would have won best dance song and album (they had most of the year although hanteo wasnt counting pre-orders which were highest since DBSK’s preorders last year) and artist of the year and SNSD would have won best song of the year (2NE1 had success too, but no1 can deny the success of Gee – having said that SNSD and SuJu didnt win any Mnet awards for Gee and Sorry Sorry despite those being the biggest hits of the year. I don’t really trust mnet with awards.) But anyway SM boycotted so sadly their stars couldnt win any awards. I love f(x) but i still think 2NE1 did deserve that award (rookie) coz 2me1 did do super good this year, and the votes only count as 20%. For SuJu and SNSD they were hard done by, but otherwise 2ne1 deserved the rookie award and im still happy for kara and 2pm, they deserved it too.
What’s done is done. At least mnet had the decency to keep those lame SM artists on the polls, shouldn’t have boycotted. Besides, seriously? This whining about sm artists wouldve won this and that, is really annoying. Get over it. SM’s artists are all the bloody same anyway. It would’ve been a REALLY boring awards show if they were involved. THANK YOU MNET.

fx has a different style than 2ne1. Although I’m not an fx fan or of their music, it’s marketed at a more mature audience and trying to be more “universal”. Old people might take a liking to it because it’s mellow dance music. 2NE1 is just for “hipsters”.
Realistically, what’s so differenet anyway? It’s just some girls that were scouted, who were taught to sing and dance, were given songs and told to preform in clothes made for them.
the difference is success i said nothing about their talent but if you were into kpop this year im pretty sure everyone knows who deserved this win. chu marketed to older people i think not. 2ne1 wasnt scouted they definitely auditioned knowing how to sing and/or dance minus dara. the only people i know tht was scouted are amber for her boyish looks and krystal for being pretty at the mall.
Chu isn’t a typical dance song. They’re more mellow, which is generally something older people can listen to. Not 60 y.o., but more like 30s, 40s. 2NE1 songs really are not listenable for people who aren’t used to the hiphop style.
Amber is there so that fx can be the next SHE, Krystal’s there as a selling point. No, they don’t have talent, and neither do 2ne1. I hate using that word when we’re talking about kpop, which is as superficial as possible. They have skill, but certainly no talent.
T-T I am so happy for DBSK! They ALL deserved that award. I really hope that this mess gets cleans up fast.

Honestly, 2NE1 has been much more successful than any female rookie group this year with many awards secured under their belt (without the MNET biases to boot). So even if song of the year and the best MV etc are debatable, 2NE1 definitely deserved best female newcomer award. I don’t see any other rookie groups that debuted this year earning as many awards as 2NE1 have in their debut year.
and to all those who keep saying “f(x) should’ve won” and “2NE1 were 2nd placers” … please STOP. you make yourselves look silly. you must remember that MAMA announced that the online polls only were worth 20%.

YG and JYP should definitely thank SM for boycotting Mnet. Most of the awards that are given to them rightfully belongs to SM. Like song of the year, I don’t care do not deserve the title as Gee is so much better. Gee won Music bank for 9 times in a row.

True, but Gee is RIDICULOUSLY popular. When people are dancing or singing on variety shows, especially during the summer, it was all about Gee. Hadn’t heard anyone lipsynching 2ne1…or whoever. They still dance/sing Gee on shows, too.
eh…some awards were deserving, but others were not. my 2cents. i am a fan of a group, but i’m not blind to see that something was a bit off with some of the major awards. anyway, MAMA awards i don’t take seriously. I am waiting for GDA-that, i hear, is more fair. still, i was happy with some of the results!
