Super Junior’s Kangin and 2009’s surprising Miss Korea , Kim Joo-ri, have been chosen as the main models for Andre Kim’s Gang-nam Fashion Festival collection, sponsored by the Gang-nam Foundation for Art and Culture. The show will run from 4.30PM to 6.00PM September 22nd at COEX Piano Fountain Square, Samsung District.

Andre Kim should have used some of that black shoe polish to paint his feet. Maybe this way, someone will mistake him for wearing shoes- like the black hair on his head.

POPSEOUL! News Flash: January 9

The “Proud Korean Awards were held by the Journalist Federation of Korea on December 28^th 2007. As the name implies, 14 individuals were recognized for their outstanding contributions in their respective fields.

Andre “Alien” Kim snapped up an award for his other worldly fashions. Although his other-worldly fashions is less than palatable, his influence to make no names into stars cannot be denied (think Won Bin). However, if the awards were for “best” fashion designer, then the painted head would not be a contender.

The other award winner is JYP for his contribution to Korean culture. Was it his role as producer or singer that got him the award? Either way, if we look at his contribution to the music industry with a discerning eye, he promoted under aged girls in school outfits to dance in a seductive way, he teamed up with a pedophile & R&B singer/producer R. Kelly, and he released a new album this year while putting on hold the careers of the up and coming stars (i.e. Min and G-Soul) to satisfy his own insatiable hunger as a media whore. That’s JYP in a nutshell.

So with Andre the Alien representing the cutting-edge fashions of Korea and JYP’s overtly sexualized contribution to Korean culture, we can all sleep well at night.

Jeon Do-yeon (below) also won a “Proud Korean Award” for her contribution to the movie industry (acting). I guess it’s a nod to her best actress win at Cannes 2007 for her role in Secret Sunshine.

#7 POPSEOUL! Fools & Tools: Bada

We here at POPSEOUL! gave up on Bada end of this year when we realized that she wants to be the youngest ajumma looking celeb. No matter how many times we mocked her for looking like a drag, a smurf, a low class hooker or the next KFC model or advised her to get a new stylist when she mistook a rat’s nest as hair, she won’t listen. Hopefully she’ll listen to us next year to save her sinking career.

#6 POPSEOUL! Fools & Tools: Yun Eun Hye

With overly sensitive fan base who cries whenever we point out the obvious flaws of her body, Yun Eun Hye was an easy target.

The ex-Babyvox member started out the year looking like the 2^nd Andre Kim in the making, but quickly transformed herself into Coffee Prince’s Eun Chan, a tomboy with an an annoying voice, ugly haircut and an unattractive figure.

After Coffee Prince, Yun Eun Hye signed on with Kraze Entertainment, whose parent company is famous for its burgers. She also tried to remind us that she’s a girl with feminine magazine shoots, but that’s not going to happen until she learns how to fill a dress properly.

#5 POPSEOUL! Fools & Tools: Bae Yong Joon

Yongsama successfully transformed into an ajumma this year so he can better connect with his ajumma fan base. He first started out by growing out his hair, softening his face and finally completed his look with femmy hands.

In addition to his transformation success, Bae Yong Joon’s latest drama, The Legend became a huge hit, confirming Bae’s power to attract the ajumma force who isn’t shy to ship him inflatable friends as a get well present.

#4 POPSEOUL! Fools & Tools: Andre Kim

Andre Kim might be a revered fashion designer in Korea, but he’s nothing more than an Alien with spray painted hair walking around in space suits here at POPSEOUL! And we had a blast taking him apart this year for the man ubiquitous in the celeb scene. Hopefully he’ll retire from the same flowery dresses next year and show us something new for a change.

#3 POPSEOUL! Fools & Tools: JYP

JYP was mostly in the background as a producer during the first part of the year. He taught Wondergirls how to dance and prepared J.Lim, G-Soul and Min for their grand US debut.

But the attention hungry producer, who wanted to liberalize Korean through his plastic pants couldn’t resist coming back on stage, so he lost 10 kgs to pose half naked for his album cover.

JYP came back back with tight beats and tighter pants, a correlation that should never exist. But his tight pants made him 2007 Korea’s Best Dresser.

The Brain also lived out his wildest fantasies in his MV with sexy Kim Hye Soo and on stage at Buchun. Fortunately for all, JYP is returning to his back-end job as a producer next year. But I’m sure that we’ll get a glimpse of the dancing gorilla from time to time.

#2 POPSEOUL! Fools & Tools: Rain

The golden pig year started out very promising for “world star” Rain. “Its Raining” concerts in Asia were somewhat successful, despite his injury in Hong Kong, but everything went downhill once he parted with his Brain, JYP.

Rain was involved in a law suit with the generic name “Rain” and eventually pissed off the US Clouds by canceling the concerts last minute. But the Clouds shouldn’t be so upset, because Rain already lost his magical touch.

Then he created two companies, a temporary one named Rainy Entertainment and a permanent one J.Tunes, confirming that Rain is just a Pinky.

To make up for his losses from the Its Raining concert fiasco, Mr. Rain started to sponsor everything under the run. Rain was involved in the AIDs campaign, supported EXIT (End Exploitation and Trafficking) for MTV, became the PR ambassador for 2011 International Association of Athletics Federation’s and agreed to become the spokesperson for Fu Ma cakes.

Fortunately for the Clouds, Rain was also the face of CK and Giordano, giving them something to stare at while the rest of the world is making fun of him.

But 2007 wasn’t a complete failure for Rain. He managed to get on the Colbert show and he even filmed Speed Racer with his poor English skills. Despite all his stupid mistakes, if you are still in love with Rain, check out our tips on becoming Rain’s lover.

#1 POPSEOUL! Fools & Tools: Super Junior

How boring would this year have been without these 13 Freaks R Us and the Elves on our radar?

2007 started out pretty rough for these boys who were in a car accident back in April. Although they are all better now, Lee Teuk had 170 stitches and Kyu Hyun was in intensive care for quite some time.

These boys also created many controversies by purely acting stupid. Dong Hae pissed off the Chinese fans because he cursed at them at the airport and Lee Teuk was in the hot seat because he lied about a dumb cyworld friend invitation.

This mob of SM trainees also made us question their sexuality. Lee Teuk and Shindong dressed up as drags, Siwon kissed other SuJu members, Kangin made out with a gag man, they all danced in tights and Hee Chul used the ladies room. In fact, we saw too much of Hee Chul this year, which wasn’t necessary because he can’t sing or dance.

The SuJu boys also released a movie that flopped, but this didn’t deter them from releasing their 2^nd album which earned them the title “Freaks R Us.” Violinist Henry was inserted into the group which started a war between the Elves and SM.

But out of all these crazy things, the boys tried to give back by donating blood and hosting charity events.

Congratulations everybody for making it on the Top 7 POPSEOUL! Fools & Tools List. We would like to encourage all of you to continue with your absurd confessions and insane behaviors next year!

There was a bit of sunshine on the red carpet but no secrets. At least none that we know of.

At the Sixth Korean Film Awards, the night belonged to Secret Sunshine (밀양) with Cannes award winner for Best Actress Jeon Do-yeon, co-star Song Kang ho and director, Lee Chang-dong.  Korean-as-a-second-language hottie Daniel Henney was recognized for his English acting skills in his portrayal of adopted son in My Father and the no-show Song Hye-gyo nabbed the Best New Actress award for Hwangjini. Also, Shim Hyung-rae’s disastrous over hyped film, D-War (aka Dragon Wars) managed to get a nod for its special effects.

However, on the red carpet, it was no secret that the queen of the night was Kim Hye-soo. The voluptuous star gave “fan service” by bringing out her assets.

Black & White

Korean fashion magazines are touting that black is back. Indeed, the red carpet was awash with black and white – again. You would think that if all the dresses are borrowed, the stars would be a bit more daring in terms of color. Or maybe they were being respectful by not wearing something flashy…

Chu Ja Hyun. Sparkle at the neckline to a boring black dress still makes it boring.

Han Chae Young looks washed out in this black. The dress would have been a stand-out if it was a brighter color. Too bad.

Kim Hyesoo’s assets need a post of their own. The curvy star looks fabulous in this super simple but too long black dress. Hope she didn’t fall or trip.

Kim Ji Soo. The sparkles have migrated to the bust area from Chu Ja-hyun’s dress.

Lee Hana. A very Elvira type dress. And what’s that on her head? This is not a wedding.

Song Yuna. Did I mention that yellow was difficult to wear? This is especially true if the colors are that of a bumble bee.

Son Yeh Jin and Kim Myung Min. Not feeling the underwire on the dress…the straps make it interesting though. Again, another dress that would look better if it were a brighter color. This is getting depressing.

Hyun Young. The plain cream dress frames her neckline nicely, but the dress is average.

Jo Eun Ji.This woman needs a makeover. First, her bowl cut does not flatter her face. Second, the white dress has pictures of women at the bottom. Third, black stockings and sheer white dress do not go together. F.Y.I, it was not that cold last night – about 10 c.

Kim Ajoong looks fabulous in this black n’ white satin gown! Her makeup is also flawless.

Color

Finally, some color! Although the favorite color of the evening was red, the dresses, for the most part, should have stayed in the closet. However, Jun Do-yeon’s moss green satin dress was gorgeous.

Kwak Ji Min. A simple red dress that would lovelier with better accessories.

Lee Young Eun. Too much. This looks like an Andre Kim creation. Enough said.

Son Tae Young. Not sure what to make out of this dress. Seems to be Missoni inspired. Something I would not have chosen. The Ralph Lauren dress worn by Kim A-joong at the Daejong Awards was a better pick.

Jun Hae Jin. This should have stayed in the closet.

Jun Do Yeon.Gorgeous moss green dress! Usually, anything bulking up the shoulders is a no-no, but on this dress, it works.

Kim Hyun Sook. The color is very pretty. The fit is great. But… the top of the dress bothers me.

Kim Min Sun. The thin straps on the back of the dress are sexy but the color, a drab purple, looks like an ajuma color. Better if the dress was black.

Kim Taehee. Depending on the screen, this navy-purple dress is a perfect fit on top, but the length of the dress is about 30 cm short of being classy. Besides, it’s just too tight to be that short. This would look better on a sexier diva such as Lee Hyori.

Lee Hye Young. Another closet dress. We know that Lee Hye-young still has a great figure and she has the haughty air to pull off the dress worn by Lee Hana above. Even Lee Hana’s hat would look good on her.

Lee Yun Hee.This purple empire waist dress works on her because she is so thin. The dress look very comfortable, but that’s about it.

Oh Seung Eun. Hmmm. First, I would never be caught dead in this copper color. Second, what’s going on at the top of her dress? What are those frilly things?

The Gents

High shine was the theme for the gentlemen at the Korean Film Awards. If you haven’t noticed, the greater male working population in Korea is wearing shiny suits. So I guess, the male celebrities are leading the way.

Daniel Henney. Such a handsome man but such a bad navy suit. The suit looks polyester and borrowed from his dad’s closet.

Jang Gun Suk. Man, this guy has packed on the makeup but the hat pulls this look together.

Ji Hyun Woo. Wow, an interesting fashion statement. The weather was not that cold so the scarf served no purpose than to add to the sparkley black suit.

Jo In Sung also has dipped into the color lotion for this event. The effeminate star looks great in the classic black suit with bow-tie.

Jo Min Ki looks awkward.

Joo Jin Mo. Sexy Joo Jin-mo is slithery in this ultra shiny black suit. The man look better in jeans.

Jung Il Woo is too much black and too much shine (including his shirt!).

Jung Kyung Ho wears another shiny purple/black suit. Can’t wait until this trend dies.

Lee Sun Kyun and Oh Man Suk are all black except for the white bow tie and handkerchief. Did I mention that class is best?

Shim Hyung-rae represents the working ajasshs of the Korea in this shiny gray suit.

Outcasts

Andre Kim. Now we know his real color, and it’s not baby white.

Jo Won Suk. Ridiculous.

Why is almost everyone wearing black? At Ahn Jae-hwan and Jung Sun-hee’s happy wedding today at the Hyatt Hotel, friends of the newlyweds showed their respect by wearing black. Are we missing something?

The newlyweds will be going to Japan for their honeymoon.

Jung Sun-hee’s white fur shawl is gorgeous! The dress is simple but elegant.

Bada has straightened out her hair but still needs to work on slapping on some makeup. She looks washed out.

Singer Bbaek-ga gives off the cool vibe with the wind-blown hair.

Is that Chae-yeon? The clunky granny boots and chiffon dress is so grunge and so 90’s.

Eru, is that smudge suppose to be facial hair? Nice try.

Gil Gun sticks out her bust and buns for all to see. Not cool

Lee Sora with Uhm Junghwa and Choi Hwa-jeong. Ms. Choi is the most colorful of the bunch but bag lady dress has got to go.

Ok Ju-hyun

Bbaek-ga & Shin Ji make a cute couple in all black.

Sexy singer Mina is almost unrecognizable in all black.

Shim Eun-jin brings some color with her in the form of a bag.

Shin Dong-yeop wears a pink tie. Yeah!

Song Yoona wears the colors of a waitress.

Uhm Junghwa actually looks decent at this angle. The underwear seller was selected to receive the bouquet.

Andre the Alien Kim was coincidentally at the Hyatt, but he was not there for the wedding. The news headline was “I was not here for the wedding”. haha.

Andre Kim - If you are sick of dressing up as ET or other aliens from outer space, try dressing up like our designer friend Andre Kim.

Things to get:

• white space outfit
• spray on hair
• awkward fusion of French, American and Korean accent, “Hello, my name is Ah-nng-dre Kim, I’m a dee-za-in-na“

Instructions:

If you are too poor to get your Andre space outfit custom made, then do some magic with your winter blanket. Start stapling the blanket to yourself until you look like you are carrying a UFO around your stomach. Once the outfit is intact, spray paint your hair and draw that hideously bushy eyebrows. Don’t forget to slap on some foundation as well.

Too much work? You are almost there. The final step is to adapt Andre’s accent. There’s nothing special about his fusion accent and all you need to do is talk very slowly and insert the word “elegance” and “beautiful” in every other sentence to complete the look. Now go outside and reveal your Alien self to the world.

Park Jin Young – Are you too handsome to dress up as JYP for Halloween? Don’t worry, you can look like JYP by wearing his signature “sweat pants.”

Things to get:

• nipple tight white undershirt
• saran wrap (remember to sew in the pockets)
• clear tape
• black thong
• desire to become a social outcast for the rest of your life

Instructions:

First, put on your shirt and the black thongs. Then start wrapping the saran wrap around your legs and tape them to make sure that they are in place and voila, you are JYP for Halloween.

But if JYP’s plastic pants is too risque for you, try wearing the plastic on top like Sohn Ho Young. As long as you have the pecks to go along with it, you will become the ladies man of the night. And if you are brave enough, wear both the plastic pants and the shirt and let us know what happened to your social life afterwards.

Eun Chan from Coffee Prince – If you want your Gong Yoo fantasy to come true, then why not dress up as Eun Chan and hope for Han Kyul to walk by while you are out trick or treating.

Things to get:

• over-worn and over-sized t-shirts
• outdated sneakers
• ugly jeans
• duct tape
• tomboyish attitude and some Taekwondo kicks

Instructions:

First, duct tape your valuable assets to flatten them like a boy’s (if you are already flat, then congratulations you can skip the tape), and then put on the rest of the clothes. That was easy, now here’s the hard part. Practice speaking in Eun Chan’s annoying voice, blowing your hair whenever you are pissed and sitting down with your legs wide apart. Once you have Eun Chan’s signature moves down, you are set to go out and look for Han Kyul.

Dancing Queen Chae Yeon

Things to get:

• beaded curtains
• flashy lingerie
• hot tanned bod

Instructions:

First put on your lingerie and make sure that they are in tightly in place because nothing else will cover you up. Then carefully wrap around the beaded curtain on your neck and let it fall, as if your body was a wall and voila, you are Chae Yeon. But before you walk out the door, get used to the beads bouncing on your body whenever you move.

Bada, The Official Ajumma

Things to get:

• cheap perm
• clothes banned from the 80s
• desire to become an ajumma

Instructions:

Find the most runned-down salon near your neighborhood and ask for their cheapest perm. Then start your Halloween costume scavenger hunt in your mom’s closet and look for the loudest and the ugliest outfit. Wear it and pretend that you are all that. Now you are Bada.

Girl’s Generation: Nine twins

Things to get:

• Gather 8 other friends (excluding yourself) with long hair and who look similar
• School-girl outfits
• Desire to blend in

Instructions:

This is by far the easiest Halloween costume since you just need 8 other girl friends who have the same look. Next, wear the same school-girl outfit. The picture above is a good reference and volia- you are part of Korea’s largest girl pop group. And I bet that if you go somewhere with your crew, people will actually think you are Girls Generation.

Freaked you out right? The picture of Alien Andre has been photoshopped onto a body of a baby. Sccaryy! Just imagine having this sitting oh-so casually on the sofa at your home.

Andre the Alien confessed that he turned down fellow alien and king of pop, Micheal Jackson when the gloved one asked him to be his personal designer way back when. During a recent interview, Andre mentioned that he felt that it was more important to serve the Korean public with his ele-gan-ce because without him, we might all be running around like aliens in white spacesuits.
