Ready for another manga remake?

After the unbelievable popularity of 2008’s “Boys Over Flowers” remake, rumor has it that South Korea will take on another classic Japanese manga with a cult following: “Absolute Boyfriend.“

Here the plot: Riiko, a lonely high school student (again?), ignorantly designs an “absolute boyfriend” on a website and orders him, thinking that everything is a silly game. When her order surprisingly arrives the next morning, she follows the instructions manual and kisses him in order to, well, turn him on. And to avoid paying a fortune for her absolute boyfriend, whom she names “Night,” she agrees to help the company conduct research on women’s attitudes towards men (to perfect future absolute boyfriend models). As the story progresses, Night begins to feel human emotion and care for Riiko. Unfortunately, a love triangle come into play with Riiko’s childhood friend Soshi. On top of all this, Night is a robot and Riiko is still in high school.

True, sounds childish. However, the quirky story may make for some funny comedy. According to the rumor mill, iconic bombshell Jun Ji-hyun is set to make her first drama comeback in 10 years as the stylish 30 year old version of Riiko for the new series. An insider for the production commented, “We understand that for a long while, Jun Ji-hyun has been carefully preparing to take a role in a Korean drama. We are working out the details of her casting, and hope for a positive result.” Nothing’s been set in stone as of yet, but do you want to see a Korean remake of “Absolute Boyfriend”?

Remember that old KBS variety show?

No, 2Pm’s Lee Jun-ho and SHINee’s Choi Min-ho aren’t ditching their respective idol groups. The  two singers just have been cast in the second season of the KBS variety show “Go Dream Team“. The show, which premiered way back in 1999,  once featured some pretty famous guest stars, including Rain, Kwon Sang -woo, Yoo Jae-suk and Shinhwa, competing in the show’s physical challenges.

Six years after the end of the first season, the program has returned with a new title “Go DreamTeam Season 2 – The Green Team is Coming” and its pilot episode is set to air on September 13th. The program’s  first episode will feature the new “Dream Team” competing against some Incheon Coast Guards.

A few of the cast of the new dream team have already been announced, including Jun-ho, Min-ho and MC Song Joong-ki, the current MC of KBS Music Bank. These new players will be joined by  a few of the show’s veteran cast members  from the first season, including Shin Jung-hwan, G.O.D.’s Danny Ahn and Jo Sung-mo,  all of whom have been confirmed to return.

The  second season of “Go Dream Team” is expected to  be bigger and better than the first. One of the show’s PDs even stated:

“We will bring the dynamic variety and fun that the audience had not watched before.”

So, are you excited to see your favorite newbies and veterans competing on the new season of  “Go Dream Team” or is the thought of all this already putting you to sleep?

Seo-Hyun is scary, Jessica is dirty, and Hyo-Yeon is a “fashion terrorist?”Okay, they’re not back back, but Girls Generation (minus member Tiffany) did appear on an episode of SBS Intimate Note. In case you weren’t familiar, the goal of the variety show is to bring raw emotion and feeling from celebrities, rarely seen due to their camera acts.

Yes, there was yelling. Yes, there were fascinating showcases of their personalities. Yes, there was a “Sorry Sorry” encore with mustaches. Check them out (for possibly the last time in a while)~

Viewers are shielding their eyes throughout half the show.

Although the first episode soared quickly to a rating of 12%, the most recent episode of “Soul” has dropped to 9.4%.

For the first three episodes, ratings were going strong at around 12%. The fourth episode, however, featuring grotesque scenes of blood and surgical knives, have forced viewers to change the channel, garnering ratings as low as 2.6% during its original broadcast on August 13th.

It seems viewers were initially very intrigued with a horror drama, but as the series progresses, they started to realize they can only watch so much graphic material twice a week. I guess the main appeal of “Soul” is starting to become it’s worst offense.

Han Hyo-joo is the runner-up to host MNET 20’s Choice Award on August 28th. Han Hyo-joo was chosen due to the popularity of SBS drama “Brilliant Legacy“.

You can’t forget about the opening host performance of the annual MNET 20’s Choice Award! Everyone is anticipating the reveal of the actual host for the awards, as well as the actual ceremony itself.

Anything exciting going on?

The “My Fair Lady” press conference was held on August 13th to the excitement of many fans. The drama is set to air August 19th on KBS2.

On August 13th, the cast of “Take Care of Agasshi“, aka “My Fair Lady“, appeared on Happy Together. During the show, Yoon Eun-hye was asked what is her ideal type of man, and she confessed MC Yoo (Yoo Jae-suk).

Why? Because now she’s more mature to know that bad boys will not be satisfying when you are 70 years old. She chose MC Yoo because she likes a man who can care for others before himself, but she knocked him down by saying, “However, I have never been attracted to MC Yoo“.

Poor grasshopper, he may be the best type of nice guy around, but you just don’t have what it takes to make Yoon Eun-hye’s heart beat fast.

Actor Kim Bum fainted on the set of his latest drama “Dream” during a day of filming at Il-san Lake Park. 

Kim Bum’s manager credits the actors fainting to the rigorous shooting schedule for the drama. According to the actor’s manager, Kim Bum worked into the wee hours of the night on August 8th. The next day, the already sleep deprived actor filmed for hours in the scorching sun, causing him to momentarily pass out.

Kim Bum wasn’t out of commission for very long. After taking a brief rest, the actor continued filming. He is reportedly doing fine now.

Looks like Kim Bum is putting his all into his first leading role. With all the action on set, let’s hope no more accidents occur. We would hate for anything to happen to that pretty little face of his.

New horror drama “Hon“, also known as “Soul“, premiered on August 5th.

The new horror drama raked in an impressive rating of 11%.

Netizens all reacted differently. Some were horrified, and some thought it was waste of their precious time when they could have been bashing on another celebrity.

Last night I was able to catch this horror drama in action, as I was skipping through the channels to kill my boredom. I have to say there were parts in the drama where I probably would have died in the situation. For example, the main character is in the school bathroom alone and behind her is the ghost above hanging on the ceiling. That may not sound frightening, but for people who have been in a Korean school bathroom, you know what I’m talking about. Also, the pure fact that Tiara’s Ji-yeon is in the drama is horrifying in itself.

Han Hyo-joo shared her thoughts on the kissing scene with “Shining Inheritance” co-star, Lee Seung-ki.

On the SBS program, “TV Entertainment Night” on July 22^nd, the 22 year old expressed some regret that her nose was flattened during the kissing scene. Her confession was viewed by 40% of viewers for the time slot. Those are probably the same television watchers who also tune into the weekend drama (43.4%, according to TNS survey).

So 2PM is supposed to be “Wild Bunnies” doing it “Again and again”?  

The Playboy bunny (see above) is reference to the new sitcom show by MNET featuring the 7 member crew. The producer, Kim Tae-eun, is also the same person who brought you the creepy, Jun Jin and 4 Highschool students.

With their activities winding down for their second single on SBS Inki-gayo on July 19^th, MNET “Wild Bunnies” will step in on July 21^st at 6pm (Seoul time).

Who does that these days?

Trying to muster up as much luck as possible, Son Dambi and  Kim Bum (above) have turned towards higher spiritual powers to ensure their new drama, “Dream” becomes a success. Offering of money were made to a pig head at a ceremony opened to the press on July 16^th.

But will a simple offering be enough?  

“Dream” will air on July 27th. Joo Ji-mo and Choi Yeo-jin also star.
