A.N.JELL, from SBS drama, “You’re Beautiful,” was featured in the current issue (November 6 -19th) of Highcut magazine.

Their onscreen persona has moved off-screen in this photoshoot. Even Park Shin-hye (see below) got into character. It’s like they’re a real band!

The SBS drama “You’re Beautiful” (미남이시네요), also called “You’re Handsome,” stars Jang Geun-suk (Beethoven Virus), Park Shin-hye (Goong S), Lee Hong-ki from F.T Island, and new-comer/indie rookie Jung Yong-hwa from pop act, C.N Blue.

The storyline revolves around an idol boy band, A.N.JELL. The leader is Hwang Tae-kyung (Jang Geun-suk), an easily-agitated, almost-OCD musical genius, though his vocals are slightly lacking. Jung Yong-hwa plays the cool, calm, and “manly” guitarist Kang Shin-woo. The third and final member is Jeremy (Lee Hong-ki), the blond-hair drum player from Korea and a seemingly royal English descent (though he never speaks English). Jeremy is a fresh and fun character, who loves acting cutesy and throwing parties.

Park Shin-hye, plays a clumsy nun-in-training, Go Mi-nyuh. Her twin brother, Go Mi-nam, gets a coveted spot in the top idol group, A.N.JELL, in order to add some vocal help. However, the brother has an accident and must leave the country. Thus, the manager seeks out the sister to fill in until her brother can return. Thus, Go Mi-nyuh becomes Go Mi-nam in order fulfill her brother’s dream and find their mother, who left them as children. She has to perform with A.N.JELL without revealing to the world she is a girl.

Of course, after joining A.N.JELL, the members slowly start growing fond of Go Mi-nam, as a girl. It’s an interesting gender-bending, high-profile love situation. The main love triangle in the drama happens between Go Mi-nam, Hwang Tae-kyung (Jang Geun-suk), and Kang Shin-woo (Jung Yong-hwa).

Afterschool’s UEE also takes the role of a fake, evil princess as a female rival to Go Mi-nam. She plays the two-faced Yoo Hye-ee (un)surprisingly well. Because of her liking of Hwang Tae-kyung, Yoo Hye-ee is determined to ruin Go Mi-nam’s career and love life.

The drama has a good mix of drama and humor, with the band manager and Jeremy (Lee Hong-ki) adding just enough comic relief to keep it from becoming tiring.

So far, the season is onto its 12th episode in the 16 episode series. Unfortunately, the ratings are low because it shares a time-slot with the big-budgeted and wildly popular IRIS (아이리스, KBS 2TV). However, the drama is remarkably high in download rates from internet portals. In addition, the OST, including songs sung by the members of A.N.JELL, are in top songs lists on Korean music sites.

Yup, this classic “Stairway to Heaven” cutie is ready to cross dress into a man. Wanna take a peek?Starring opposite Jang Geun-suk in the new drama “You’re Beautiful,” 19 year old drama princess Park Shin-hye plays two fraternal twins, of whom the male twin is a member of the fictional idol group “A.N.JELL.” Upon getting into an accident in which he can’t participate with the group’s activities, the female twin decides to play his part. Maybe it’s just me, but girl pretending to be boy to help out loved one sounds very familiar.

Is a girl dressing up as a boy supposed to bring in viewers? Instead of resorting to another “Coffee Prince,” why not get a better story line?

And just for those of you who might be curious: Both these two actors were considered for the lead roles in the hit drama, “Boys Before Flowers” And if they were cast, would they have made a better Jandi and Goo Jun-pyo?

Just…drag…?Whether in Hollywood, Bollywood or even Hallyu, it seems actors have a common knack for trying to make it in the music industry. Young yet established Korean actor, Jang Geun-suk, has just released a digital single on September 10th titled “Just Drag“. The song is for his new CF Samsung d’light.

Though the tune is pretty catchy, his voice is quite digitalized, rendering it impossible to decide whether he’s actually a good singer or if his voice just sounds pretty. Either way, just drag- gonna be ok-dadadoodoo. Sorry, I had to.

Did you know that F.T Island’s Lee Hong-ki was a childhood actor? Well, he was.

Lee Hong-ki will be making his return to the small screen after his five year hiatus through the upcoming  SBS drama, ‘You Are So Handsome’. Lee Hong-ki was originally supposed to star in the SBS drama, ‘God of Studying’ during the latter half of 2008 but production of the drama has been entirely cancelled.

‘You Are So Handsome’, is a story about a four member Idol group and their growth, love life and hardships. Alongside Lee Hong-ki, Jang Geun-suk and Park Shin-hye have also been cast as a member of the Idol group. What’s interesting is, Park Shin-hye, will have two roles in the drama because she plays the part of a girl who disguises herself as a boy to be in the Idol group.

Lee Hong-ki has been cast for the role of Kang O-nyu, the pretty boy idol group member who doesn’t really care much for anything or anyone around him. As to why Lee Hong-ki was cast for the role, a representative of the drama stated,

 Lee Hong-ki has been cast in the drama ‘You Are So Handsome’. Since the story is about an Idol group, while we were in the process of looking for an actual Idol group member to star in the drama we felt that Lee Hong-ki was a good candidate for the character and decided that he actually suited the character quite well.

‘You Are So Handsome’ is scheduled to air on October 7th, following the currently broadcasting drama, ‘Swallow the Sun’.

What could have Mr. Baby Face done wrong?

Actor Jang Geun-suk is getting sued by the production company Pro Draft Media, responsible for the MBC drama, “The National Culinary School,” which failed to release due to funding issues back in 2007. Pro Draft Media paid Jang Geun-suk and others, a partial advanced payment before filming was officially supposed to begin. Production, however, never happened, so Pro Draft media are now asking that they cough it all back up. Obviously, Jang Geun-suk and his agency are refusing to give back the money they received since it wasn’t their fault that they were unable to film the drama.

A representative of the actor stated,

We had to forfeit working on other projects we were offered because of this drama. We did receive an advance payment as part of the promised amount, but once payment of the remaining amount started to be pushed back, we asked for a written statement from the production company stating, ‘even if a problem arises in terms of the production of the drama, we will not cause any problems in terms of the amount we paid out in advance’ and currently have it on file. The production company continuously told us to wait a little longer when asked why filming for the drama wasn’t getting started. We told their lawyer about the written statement and have been told that the issue would be looked into. There’s nothing we have done wrong, so we’re not worried about this lawsuit.

From the looks of it, Jang Geun-suk and his agency is probably going to win the case, and Pro Draft Media is just going to have to suck it up and accept their loss. On a lighter note, the actor recently finished filming for his new movie, “Itaewon Murder Case,” which will hit theatres sometime this coming September.

Jang Geun-suk held his first fan meeting, “Jang Geun-suk, Let’s play” on March 29th somewhere in Jung-gu, Seoul. With a close-knit 250 fans, 30 of whom were from orphanages, the 22 year old apologized for not having the time to spend with his Korean fans until now. He added that he is busy learning English, Chinese, Japanese, cooking, and voice training so that he can conquer the world (ok, we made up the conquer part).

Jang Geun-suk has previously had fan meetings in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan.

I was expecting to be wow-ed by the glamorous dresses at the 45th Paeksang Arts Awards on February 27th, but every time I am disappointed. With a few exceptions, the dresses were either too casual, too simple or just plain cheap looking. Whoever their stylists are, they are definitely not “Glam Gods.”

Here’s our take on the red carpet fashions:

Shin Ae. The strapless beige tulle dress cutting straight across her chest only emphasizes her linebacker shoulders and her envious (by Korean standards) pin-sized head. There are so many more flattering necklines out there, it’s just too bad that she had to pick the most unflattering.

Han Ye-seul prefers to wear floaty type dresses, but this lavender piece is a miss. Why? Because the material looks like cheap wrinkly crepe.

So Ji-sub has forgone his usual or should we say, unusual tastes in fashion to stick with the tried and true cool – head to toe black (including shaggy mop)

Yoon Eun-hye. Sure Yoon Eun-hye may looks fabulous in magazine photoshoots but in this saggy blue strapless dress, this is a definite miss. Again, the slight sweetheart neckline that is pressed into and pushing down her boobs while at the same time emphasizing the armpit folds is not flattering. Also, the tulip/mushroom effect of her dress reminds me of a baggy diaper (Don’t ask).

Moon Geun-young looks nearly naked and drowning in this un/structured satin dress.  If you look carefully, someone has done a shoddy job on the hem of the dress (probably using double sided tape). Also the heavy black heels are a no. Girl needs to soften her look by letting down her hair.

Son Ye-jin’s jewel toned off-the-shoulder dress is similar to Park Sol-mi and Kim Hyun-jung (see below). We know that she’s probably trying to go after the grecian goddess look, but does she succeed? Hmm….

Lee Joon-ki. Men’s suit jackets have regained their normal lengths (thank goodness!). For a while the lengths were short and looked, well, ridiculous. But now, it seems that the classics are back-and that’s a good thing.

Park Sol-mi follows the footsteps of Son Ye-jin above.

Go Euna wears a canary yellow chiffon dress that emphasizes her only asset- her cleavage and that’s all we can see.

Park Bo-young came out of the jungle with this floaty wild concoction.

Choi Yeojin wears head-to-toe runway Escada (including neck band)

Kim Ji-soo is elegant in this bright red dress.

Joo Ji-hoon sticks to the classics in a bow-tie.

Kim Hyun-jung covers her linebacker shoulders with a halter neckline. But unfortunately not flattering for short-necks.

Jang Geun-suk is cool and deconstructed on the red carpet…maybe so cool that he looks out of place?

Gong Hyo-jin wears the short-in-the-front look better than Yoon Eun-hye (see above), but still, something about the unbalanced hemlines and heavy heels seems inappropriate for the red carpet.

Han Ji-hye is hot pink pretty in another off-the-shoulder satin dress. Everything would have been perfect if her hairstyle was not so severely pulled back.

Kim Min-sun gives a nod to her Korean roots with the hanbok dress (it’s the modified skirt of the hanbok). From certain angles, the shape of the dress looks pretty, but the skin-tone is a miss.

The color of Park Shi-yeon’s emerald green dress is gorgeous, but the heels and the satin canary yellow belt cheapens the outfit. And did she do anything with her hair? Obviously not. A miss.

So now we know, open mouth is hot. Tight lipped stiffness is not.

And Korean netizens are in agreement. The hot kiss between Jang Geun-suk and mature looking Park Shin-hye for Etude Cosmetics received over 1 million clicks. Usually, popular video clips in Korea get an average of about 100 thousand hits but this is 10 times that number. So we can basically conclude what we already know: sex sells.

Jang Geun-suk is featured in another CF with the new face of Etude cosmetics, Park Shin-hye. And since the pair are trying to hawk lipstick, what better way to sell it but to kiss with an open mouth (because the dancing is not going to sell anything).

So much for the tight-lipped liplocks of the past. Hello, open mouth.

KBS recently revealed that Jang Geun-suk was their first pick for Goo Jun-pyo in their hit series “Boys Before Flowers.” Can you believe that? We cannot imagine anyone but Lee Min-ho for the role.

But lucky for the drama,  Jang Geun-suk chose 2008’s hit “Beethoven Virus” because he couldn’t get the role he wanted.

Although Group Eight, the production company in charge, contacted Jang Geun Suk for the lead role, he expressed his desire to become the suave and debonair Yoon Ji-ho instead a stuck up spoiled rich brat. However, once again the fans showed their power by stepping in and  sending the company pictures and emails proving why Kim Hyun Joong of SS501 should be Yoon Ji-ho.

Do fans really have that much power? Or is KBS giving them too much credit?
