Beauty is in the eye of the CD

han-yehseul.jpg

One of the conditions of beauty in the motherland is face size. The smaller it is, the more “beautiful” you are. Here, pinhead and actress, Han Yehseul, shows off the fact that she can nearly cover her entire face with a single CD. For me and other plain folks, one CD may not be enough.

Uh. It covers my face, but I see no difference in making me more beautiful that way.
Weird. But I did find out something new though!

what’s with stereotyping beauty?! it comes in all different shapes and forms; if we keep on believing that beauty comes only in one particular type, then that’s sad, and we wont be able to open our eyes to new things! it really annoys me! i definetely wont be surprised if all Korean women start looking alike, thanks to the invention of plastic surgery and whatever they use…

Going off of aileeee’s comment, the same unfortunate standardization of “beauty” goes on here in America to appalling degrees as well. Just tonight, I was watching America’s Next Top Model with some friends, and we were all infuriated to find that they voted off one of the most beautiful girls in the competition, Sarah, because she was supposed to compete as a “plus-size model” but had lost too much weight and so could not compete as that category any longer. The judges chastised her for losing weight–when it was the very modeling industry which they promote that so pressured Sarah into feeling insecure about her body and wanting to change it.

The awful thing is, Sarah is not “plus-size” at all. Her body is actually just what a healthy and beautiful body looks like. It was just because all the other girls in the competition are sticks, just skin and bones, and that is the standard by which Sarah–and all women who strive for beauty–are held. It’s actually a little disturbing and saddening to see how food-deprived the other models are. And Sarah had consistently taken amazing pictures as well, along with her great personality! Bah! It’s just awful. I, for one, am one woman with a Korean face who loves it just the way it is… except I do use ssankappul glue… I don’t have the balls to go without it yet. :[

face is small/thin but rest of the body excluding hands and chest are fat..i hate dieting and exercise that’s why i look auful (body) …when i diet only i look the best. depends how much/long i diet i get skinny! this is with everyone case accept those people who are born in a natural fit body.

  32. 32 anon September 6, 2008 at 10:37 pm
