You can’t escape it. Crazed fans are everywhere. It is the blind adoration by these overzealous fans that lead to rabid attacks of anyone who voice their opinion against their idols. Not only were we the targets of attack, but Korean rapper 60Row is currently fighting his own battle with die-hard fans because he trashed bubblegum pop singers DBSK, SG Wanna Be and Big Bang in his song “stop ya music.” He basically called them garbage and asked them to “stop ya music.”
Despite the dis, he has a valid point. The Korean music industry is mostly driven by teen idol stars who have the largest fan base and it’s getting harder to see real musicians survive in the cut throat industry. His lyrics might sit uncomfortably for some, especially for loyal DBSK, SG Wanna Be & Big Bang fans, but it did raise the needed awareness regarding the issues that hinder the progression of the Korean music industry.
Reading comments about 60Row’s song in various message boards reminded me of our weekend and it’s obvious that both parties (60row fans & 60row antis - mostly comprised of DBSK, SG Wanna Be & Big Bang die-hard fans) are extremely stubborn in their views. However, at the end of the day, it’s those very controversies and clashes of opinion that make our culture interesting. If we all had the same opinion - worshipping the same pop groups- then it wouldn’t be a discourse, it would be preaching.
Hopefully 60row’s song will motivate the movers and shakers of the music industry to focus on discovering real talent, instead of creating pretty boy groups who only have their looks to count as talent.
Hmm this is pretty interesting. I have to say that many of those ‘die-hard’ fans do defend DBSK/SG Wannabe/Big Bang (I’m surprised Super Junior isn’t part of that) to the end. It is kind of weird that they don’t ever see their flaws…and are so stubborn that they make really mean comments to anyone else who says a little critique to their idols. But also no offense to that rapper guy ~ their music isn’t too bad…maybe to him but everyone has different tastes, and they obviously aren’t talentless (the rapper might kill himself if he were in Hong Kong…) SG Wannabe & Big Bang definitely can’t be classified as pop…but they do have their flaws. I wish fans would stop being so crazy…
I disagree with Eve; Big Bang is definitely pop music. And I don’t think that all the pop artists have going for is their looks: I think a lot of artists are being held back from thir true potential by their companies, and by the need to make money. It’s all well and good expressing yourself, but if it’s not going to pay the bills at the end of the day it’s a losing strategy.

i know it seems now a days all they have is a “formula” for making music..great music doesn’t follow a formula..but those fans are hard core and very very subborned they get all aroused and defensive even at the lightness negative comment about their artist..its like for those with comments can’t say anything for fear of being “black listed” like back in the days..haha

I think he has a point, even though I don’t really support his inane bashing. He could’ve found smarter, more professional ways to get his message across. Bashing on other artists just proves he wants attention. If he wanted to make a statement about Korean’s music industry, then he should target the record labels, not the artists. Artists don’t just debut by themselves, after all.
Its kind of foolish that he bashed all these artists with his song, now he’s going to get a huge backlash from the netizens and all the fan groups.
I think SG Wannabe (well at least Jin Ho) has talent… his vocal range is so damn amazing… and yeah I guess the others are there because of their looks

i think on one hand there are lots of artists out there who truthfully cant sing very well.. but i have heard dbsk live &acapella and i will say they do have more talent than others so.. what im saying hes right about alot of artists.. but definately not all and not necessarily the ones specifically pointed out..
I do agree that the fans should stop being insane, but the artists he did mention are in fact, TALENTED — if they were no good, then they wouldn’t be where they are. It’s that their fans love them to that extent, and that’s why the go insane over them and what not.
I’m using DBSG for an example; they were put out to be an a capella group. And if they weren’t talented, they could never pull off doing any a capella songs (this is the choir student in me speaking). And besides, Big Bang… that’s definitely not bubblegum pop. Artists barely even do that these days — it’s all ballads (IMO).
And yeah, most of them happen to be good looking & appeal to girls and whatever — not their fault they turned out that way.
But yeah, I agree with silverdeer in saying that he does have a point, but you know. It’s probably accurate about a lot of artists, but I don’t think it applied to the ones he mentioned.

i really don’t get how Big Bang is bubblegum pop o.O. they only have one “pop” sounding song other is pretty much hip hop. The music industry does have a biased and favors looks more but it doesn’t mean the artists didn’t work hard to get where they are now. I’ll use big Bang for example b/c i saw the documentary and i know them a bit more than the others. GD and YB started in YG when they were 12 (i doubt it was purposely for looks) and wasn’t until about 6 years later did they get really big in Big Bang. TOP preformed at clubs until he got a break with Big Bang. Seungri got put from battle Shinhwa and Big Bang but was later put back into Big bang after more training. So its not like the artist got famous overnight, they had to go through hardships too. But yes it is obvious to say looks do matter in the industry today.
Personally i don’t like 60row’s rapping, maybe it’s his voice and bad English but it turns me off from the song =[

i think artists bashing other artists is so horrible. regardless of how talented (or untalented) a singer or a group is, shouldn’t a fellow artist at least recognize that these people do work hard? and like a few people have been saying, entertainment companies have a tight hold and control over their artists, so a lot of the time, we don’t even get to see these singers’ full potentials which is sad.

Rapper60row definitely needs to chill a bit, he does make some good points though. Although he should have more um discreet about it. I don’t know why but I thought it was just the American artists that bash fellow artist in their songs (no offense there are artists that do).
He shouldn’t call them garbage every artist works hard to get where they are now from when they joined the company and some artists have really harsh pasts. They can’t help it if the company wants them to look or sing a certain way. If they do rebel they might get dropped from the company.

There is some points where 60row is correct but not ALL artists became famouse because of their LOOKS. I have to disagree with what he said. DBSK worked really hard to get to the point where they are now. They almost work 24/7 and worked to the point where they are sick because of exhaustion, take Xiah Junsu as an example, he had to go to the hospital on the day of the awards because he was too sick and too tired (he missed the first half of the show)(I think is the MKMF Awards Show) but he still pulled an excellent performance afterwards. In one phrase they are a perfect package (sing, dance and plus the LOOKS). SG Wannabe definitely have great vocals no doubt about it and they didnt become famous of their looks. As for Big Bang dont know what to write since i havent heard any of their musics. Oopps wrote too much >.

DBSK is usually classified as a pop group, Big Bang is like a hip hop/pop mix, and SG Wannabe is what I consider a ballad group. But 60Row chose bad groups to critisize since they’re all good singers and successful groups. He would’ve been better off going at Suju since like 2 of them sing and everyone else is there for show. Korea right isn’t very into the whole rap scene. I just listened to the song too and he’s not a very good rapper(at least in that song) so either way he wouldn’t do so good…

I agree with SELAH. If he wanted to pick on groups that have looks and numbers but no talent, he picked the wrong ones. SG Wannabe is clearly one of the best group of singers in Korea, and they’re most obviously NOT focused on the looks department. DBSK and Big Bang are both young pretty boys targetting teenage girls, but their singing and dancing talent remains an undeniable selling point.
