Kim Ajoong was not always so pretty….

Voted as “best body” by Shape magazine readers, Kim A-joong was not always the beauty that she is now. It is really amazing what a little makeup, hair, weight loss and plastic surgery can do! Looking at the before picture, she has obviously lost some weight since highschool (many Korean girls who through a high-school fat stage, like the frosh fifteen). After losing the weight and gaining confidence, the next step is getting the double folds in the eyes. Getting the eyes done is no big deal - almost every girl goes under the knife to make the eyes bigger. In her case, I think (although I am not an expert) that she also got her eyes widened- the whites of the eyes are more visible. After the eyes is the nose. For Kim Ajoong, it’s very obvious that she got her nose done. For celebs, the minimum nose lift is about 5mm. If you are a regular person, an extra lift of 2-3mm is usually the norm. At the same time, celebs usually have to have cosmetic dentistry. Again, Kim Ajoong looks like she has veneers and her front teeth are larger (and whiter). To straighten teeth quickly, many celebs just get their teeth pulled and re-planted. The flip side of this is that your gums may turn grayish which is not attractive (check out Kim Heesun - she never shows her gums when she smiles). Also, it looks like that she might have gotten an implant in her forehead to make it look rounder. All this work at the cost of millions of won has helped Kim Ajoong be the beauty that she is now.*

wow….isn’t this the girl from 200 pounds of beauty? Ironic how she plays a character that goes under the knife to have a complete makeover….I kinda suspected that she had a lot of work done when I was watching the movie because she just did not look natural to me…there was something weird about her face but i couldnt put my finger on it…i guess now i can :D

  2. 2 Lisa May 17, 2007 at 4:00 pm

    Personally I could tell she wasn’t a natural beauty in 200 pound beauty. You can tell if people have work done. Facial features etc ^^;

i guess it adds personal exp to the role, eh?

  3. 3 joyce May 17, 2007 at 5:57 pm

    oh..
i was just asking the other day if she really had surgery and now i already have the answer
    hahahaha

  4. 4 han May 17, 2007 at 6:04 pm

    O__O;;;
no wonder she played the character really well in that movie..

  5. 5 vanessaly May 17, 2007 at 6:14 pm

Yeah I agree, when I was watching the movie her face was the one who kept my attetion not because she was pretty but because nothing in her face looked normal. Everything seemed to need like 5 minutes time to move. It looked so unreal. And i think that sucks, cause if you want to be accepted as a real actress you should be able to show good expressions

  6. 6 blossom May 17, 2007 at 8:05 pm

But still! pretty! which doctor are they using!!!!!!!!!

  7. 7 Lisa May 17, 2007 at 8:06 pm

highly paid doctors, that’s for sure XP

  8. 8 ayara May 17, 2007 at 8:37 pm

Oh come on, there are hardly no Korean actresses that haven’t gone under the knife nowadays (even some of the actors did it too)..

  9. 9 JelloBin May 17, 2007 at 8:39 pm

    OH. MY. GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD.

  10. 10 anna May 17, 2007 at 10:29 pm

hahahhahahahhaha. I think this is especially funny bc I read a Korean news article once about the superior genes of Koreans and how they produce so many “natural” beauties. Kim Ajoong was included as an example. Lies lies lies lies lies. Not that Koreans are an ugly people either..just that they’re just like everyone else..some ugly, some pretty. This recent surge in beauties is for a good reason.

  11. 11 mauwy May 18, 2007 at 12:18 am

omo~~ yes I thought she was a naturale too!!! anna is sooo right, I saw her with that korean article with the ‘natural beauties’ and she was on the list.. tskkkk. am much doubting korean media now…

  12. 12 anna May 18, 2007 at 1:55 am

omo!! unbelievable… now i know… that most of the actors undergone plastic surgeries.. i feel bad, because only few have their natural beauties..

  13. 13 secretz May 18, 2007 at 5:47 am

lol as much as i like her i always knew she was a fake. u can clearly see that she got her nose & her eyes done. when i watched 200 pounds beauty i noticed that her teeth looked rather fake too lol so i suspected that as well.Wasnt there a recent news on her telling ppl who wants to go under the knife to think about the consequences cuz sometimes after the surgery there’s some side effects like the double-eye lids are not even or not well done…the nose cud b croocked and etc. I just find it funny!but either way i really like her song “maria”

  14. 14 Gaek May 18, 2007 at 7:51 am

    She’s still emphatically NOT “pretty.”

Seriously, Koreans really have bad taste when it comes to judging beauty.

  15. 15 scotty May 18, 2007 at 8:11 am

wow, thanks for the interesting post, especially the pics. darnit, all this time i thought she was a natural beauty… but she is still beatiful to me.

  16. 16 lennie May 18, 2007 at 8:17 am

haha, seriously Gaek. i don’t think she was pretty before, but i don’t think she’s pretty now. better, i guess, but there are definitely actresses out there who are MUCH prettier, talented… and unfortunately underrated.

  17. 17 Little Kitty May 18, 2007 at 9:42 am

WOW that fit her role in her movie…but in that movie it just tell more ppl to get plastic surgery

  18. 18 alexthegirl May 18, 2007 at 10:36 am

No wonder she played the part so well in the movie! haha Talk about drawing from personal experiences.

  19. 19 Eve May 18, 2007 at 10:38 am

Wow ~ I saw these pictures awhile ago…I feel sad that all these actresses have to resort to these measures to be popular..not because of their own talent…it’s sad >_

  20. 20 cUtiEjOy May 18, 2007 at 11:11 am

It seems like every celebrity had undergone surgery to look gorgeous.

  21. 21 gurl May 18, 2007 at 11:47 am

plastic surgery is all you need. hehe..the 21st century slogan.

  22. 22 ayara May 18, 2007 at 12:41 pm

I Bet This movie was sponsored by some kind of Korean Cosmetic Surgery Organization or somethin’ ^^

There was a scene in this movie where the fans said ” I’ts Okay” to A Joong’s character, after she confessed about having plastic surgery. Yeah they said it coz almost all of the fans who gathered there have done it too.
    Hahaha…. so lame

  23. 23 amareally May 18, 2007 at 1:19 pm

I’ll be shocked if i found an article that mentions names of Korean actress who are natural beauties… i’ll go like, “REALLY ???? SHE’S ALL REAL???” instead of “SHE HAD PLASTIC SURGERY ???” cause i’ve lost my faith in real korean beauty..even the president got a double eye lid surgery.

  24. 24 anna May 18, 2007 at 1:24 pm

I agree that the movie is pretty lame.

But about plastic surgery. I hate it, but these are the new rules of the game. Who has the money can (in most cases, Tori Spelling is a good exception to this rule) be a beauty. This seems to be a bit more widespread in Korea, but it certainly happens A LOT in America– ahem, Ashlee Simpson among MANY others. What gets me is that Korean befores are completely different while our before shots tend to be just a big nose, like in the case of Halle Berry.

What I don’t like are things like that article I brought up in an earlier post. I hate when plastic surgery is used to back up Korean nationalism. I’ve heard so many times that Koreans are just a better looking people because they are “pure.” Bs. As a Caucasian girl who loves Korean culture, I find these statements extremely hurtful. So I’m ranting, but yea…I’ve heard it one too many times. Esp on Soompi–strangely from girls who aren’t even Korean but Chinese or Vietnamese– “Koreans are the best. They don’t need surgery” “They have naturally high noses and big eyes. I wish other Asians had their good looks.”

  25. 25 mauwy May 18, 2007 at 2:24 pm

Other asians are beautiful too, but yeah just under-rated. You have to consider southeast asia ;)

  26. 26 popseoul May 18, 2007 at 4:12 pm

anna- it’s all b.s. about koreans being the “best” looking- if they are the “best” looking it’s because that the better looking Koreans have had some surgical procedure done - at the very minimum eyes and nose. Then there is the forehead implant, shaving the jaw, getting rid of the mongol fold in the eyes, lash extensions, semi-permanent tattoos for brows, great perming techniques for hair, makeup etc etc. The list goes on. But one thing that I do appreciate about Korean women is that they know how to put themselves together. They might not have the best style, but they know how to look good. period.
And if looking good takes surgery, then I guess it’s all good.

  27. 27 ayara May 18, 2007 at 8:43 pm

Personally I’m fine with some people doing plastic surgery, as long as it doesn’t become an epidemic.
And in this case, most Korean people, especially girls are way too OBSESSED with it, and I think if this thing keeps goin’ on, oh it’s not gonna be pretty.

Imagined All Korean girls having similar face because of this “Beauty Standard”. OH NO!!!

Even now I could already see the similar facial features on a lot of Korean stars’ faces.

Seriously, the society have to do somethin’ about this…

  28. 28 parkerlewis May 19, 2007 at 7:01 am

the difference is night and day.

    plastic people of korea

  29. 29 yeosah May 19, 2007 at 8:48 am

this rageof palstic surgery is ridiculous. why do people put so much in stock for outward beauty? I mean yes it’s nice to be beatufiul, but what price would you be willing to pay to look good?

  30. 30 Jo May 19, 2007 at 9:32 am

another reason why people shouldnt envy the beauty of celebs, coz they’re all man-made and fake.

  31. 31 its_trish May 19, 2007 at 9:49 am

I understand that the ‘craze’ with plastic surgery is hard to understand (for those outside of Korean and wherever else it’s very common) because of the societal influences and (dare I say it) brainwashing of the media etc. I just think that it’s pretty sad.. Our world is so messed up. Some people have no hope of a future.. cannot afford food, shelter etc. Others worry about whether their nose is small/high/low/!@#$ enough.. I am especially NOT impressed with the way that our youth (future generations) are sucked up into this ‘craze’ ’superficial’ whatever essence of society/the world/life today..
I am not beautiful. I won’t even venture to say that I’m pretty.. but I will NEVER be able to (or forgive myself) have plastic surgery..
*I can respect and appreciate actors with talent but not necessarily the ‘best’ looks - Can’t everybody else?
or.. do your really believe that you will have a chance to meet _____ and live happily ever after..?

  32. 32 sana May 19, 2007 at 10:11 am

thats her own life, and let her do what she want to, she is on the screen to entertain us, and she did that well..200 pounds beauty is an amazing movie and she acts well, what beyond that is her OWN personal life…she can do whatever she wants to make herself looks pretier..thats what i think..
oh and yeah korean’s are the most beautiful and innocent humans on earth male or females (i mean looks), i wish i was a korean *sigh*

  33. 33 irees May 19, 2007 at 10:23 am

i’m not sure if i can say the same thing as its_trish with understanding the plastic surgery craze. i, personally, as well, don’t really care much about whether someone goes under the knife as long as it’s to a minimum.
i’m on of those who believe that beauty lies in the beholder and the beholder needs to find her own beauty. i, myself, won’t admit that i’m beautiful, and i know i’m not. if i ever get plastic surgery, it’ll be because it’s my last resort for gaining confidence, and i don’t think i’d go that low to regain my self-confidence.
but i think if someone’s really not happy themselves and all hopes are lost, go for it. it’s sad that people are becoming so obsessed with plastic surgery that they overdo it when they don’t need to. what i don’t understand the most is that i find that so many koreans get plastic surgery. i think that koreans have such a high standard for beauty and expectations compared to others.

  34. 34 irees May 19, 2007 at 10:25 am

sana, it’s that same mindset that forces people to go under the knife. i don’t understand why one nationality is being taken as most beautiful or innocent or however else you want phrase it. especially koreans…

  35. 35 its_trish May 19, 2007 at 1:27 pm

Let me rephrase myself “I don’t understand the craze..” sorry for making it easy to misunderstand >.

  36. 36 its_trish May 19, 2007 at 1:28 pm

I agree Irees, Sana’s mindset (and others akin to) is (are) EXACTLY what I was trying to get at..
I also believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.. that plastic surgery can result from low self-esteem or an attempt to gain self-confidence..
My only focus is on the ease with which some people (int his world) can worry about things like plastic surgery.. while others worry about their livelihoods and surviving..

  37. 37 Extratax May 19, 2007 at 3:13 pm

Aww cmon! What they wanna do is up to them xD We just watch their shows xDD
THIS SHOW IS DAMN GOOOOOOODDDDDDD!! xDDDD
    Hui Ting!! haha lol

  38. 38 cori May 19, 2007 at 3:24 pm

but she looks a lot better…. so i’m okay with it.. hehehe

  39. 39 krnxyuhjah May 19, 2007 at 5:15 pm

    I’m okay with people who do plastic surgery, since like… It’s kind of like MAKE-UP now -__-;

But it’s kind of embarrassing for her, isnt it? Playing a part in a movie where she was fat&got plastic surgery..

    &how… she’s turing into a HALLYU star. :T

  40. 40 mishi May 19, 2007 at 9:08 pm

gosh!! i cant believe this! when i saw this article…i was like, “whoah! what a monster!” coz only monsters can produce beautiful faces like that of ah joong. too bad…i like her in bizarre bunch and considered her one of the prettiest koreans. but still, i support kim ah joong!

  41. 41 bitlife May 20, 2007 at 3:02 am

cmon guys, don’t be fooled by some anti-fan made fake pictures.

check following link for pictures of of a-joong
when she was at middle school, high school, and before her debut.

    http://gall.dcinside.com/list.php?id=news_entertainment&page=&keyword=&no=962404&k_type=&search_pos=

    she’s natural.

  42. 42 Sandra May 20, 2007 at 5:23 am

I don’t really have a problem with plastic surgery because it’s obviously the Korean industry putting too much pressure on celebrities and stars to look a certain way(Western)and pretty. I dont really understand it but I’m not Korean. It’s sad and unfortunate but I doubt it will change. It’s great to see that there are some natural Korean beauties but I think new stars will probably follow the trend as it’s normal. But plastic surgery kinda scares me, I mean shaving the jaw line… eek!

  43. 43 cherrinda May 20, 2007 at 11:49 pm

there is nothing wrong,,,,, i know people who writing this article is just envy her,,, you know what if you are actor and you hv money and you think you are not pretty enoung ,,,definately i sure that you will go through the surgery too,,, c’mon be honest!!

even now i am not a movie star i like to go to the surgery too,,, i just afrid of knif and pain from surgery that’s all ,,,

Keep up the good work A joon,,

    bye,

    Cherrinda (Thailand)

  44. 44 toocutedoggy May 21, 2007 at 7:29 am

wow.. a big change thx to those surgeon …

  45. 45 cherryblossom May 22, 2007 at 2:12 am

guess all the surgeons are making a lot of monies in korea

  46. 46 Gloria May 23, 2007 at 8:45 am

well, at least 200 pounds beauty showed the not so pretty side of her, except it lasted for way last than half of the movie XD

  47. 47 st May 28, 2007 at 6:44 am

I don’t think there is a “best looking” race. But just to tell you guys Japan and Taiwan come before Korea in the most Plastic Surgery.

  48. 48 rk May 29, 2007 at 12:01 am

clearly the author of this piece is not an expert in such areas and therefore does not have the qualifications to judge such matters.

although she might have had minor surgery,
it is ridiculous to be shocked because a clear majority of asian celebrities go under the knife.

  49. 49 Dolly Vue May 29, 2007 at 12:04 pm

Does all korean stars have plastic surgery???
It looks like it but don’t get me wrong, they are very pretty, though a person should LOVE themselve.
    ~Dolly

  50. 50 ChristaLuvsDrama May 30, 2007 at 9:54 am

It makes since for the reason that she was chosen to do the part in 200lbs of Beauty. Is that her surgery line up pic btw? lol I’m not trying to be funny, but they make you take a front and side pic when you get it done.(note: don’t know that from personal experience, just know ppl who have and I’ve seen it on discovery health channel) She does look like a natural beauty, just like the doctor said in 200lbs of Beauty. I guess whatever will make you happy….

  51. 51 sexychikita May 31, 2007 at 2:07 am

OMG!!!she looked so different way back in her teenage life..plastic surgeries do make a lots of dramatic changes in a person’s physical features..she’s too big before and now she’s sexy..and she got a totally new face!!she definitely had a nose lift job!!haha..
though i have nothing agains with those surgeries or lipos,i think,it’s their lives anyways..what’s for the better,do it..but don’t take it too seriously that you will not even get contented to what God has given you..do have it if you feel you will feel more confident and more beautiful..but not too much..ok?..don’t push yourself to the limits that you will not even recognize yourself the way before and after..these are my advices for those people who continually seeking to have plastic surgeries..LOL!

  52. 52 anony May 31, 2007 at 12:25 pm

I like the way you word it “its amazing what “little” can do” … i mean little? .. no its not what little can do.. she went through alot to look good.

  53. 53 strawberry May 31, 2007 at 10:50 pm

    i don’t believe you.
    this is CRAP.

  54. 54 sexychickita June 1, 2007 at 12:32 am

    she’s prettier now..infairness!XP

  55. 55 keronii June 1, 2007 at 1:13 pm

Look in her faces , i guess she has:
    - A malar (jaw line) reduction
    - Zygomatic arch (or cheek arch) reduction
    - Nose job
    - Alar Base (nostril reduction)
    - Chin augmentation
    - Upper eyelid reduction. hehe.

Any else more, u gals can suggest?

  56. 56 pig June 2, 2007 at 8:20 am

The plastic surgeon did an amazing job!!! ~ He must be banking now.

  57. 57 Se7enFan June 2, 2007 at 10:49 am

You know I was watching a trailer for 200 lb beauty today and then seeing the girl after all the weight is gone in the trailer I said…whats wrong with her nose….?? Now I know.

  58. 58 luvly June 2, 2007 at 11:44 am

at first i was shocked, and then i thought about it… if theres a part of your body you don’t feel so great about, i guess theres nothing wrong with getting surgery??? but i just wish these stars would admit, i dont think theres anything to be ashamed about. everyone wants to be happy with themselves, inside and out… just a thought.

  59. 59 Ahem June 3, 2007 at 7:48 am

    Uhm… wow, left me speechless.

  60. 60 kim June 5, 2007 at 3:42 am

I never thought she was attractive to begin with. When I was watching Emperor of the Sea, I kept on wondering how she became an actress (I have no problems with unattractive people) considering Korean entertainment is very picky about looks even for the minor characters.

Plastic surgery isn’t just a Korean craze. There are a bunch of countries that rank higher per capita. Hollywood is just more secretive than Korea. Have you looked at Nicole Kidman and Meg Ryan lately. They look scary.

I agree there is no super race of super beautiful people. There are good looking ones and bad looking ones though Koreans do know how to put themselves together well.

  61. 61 Bec June 5, 2007 at 10:30 pm

Gaek ..srsly..u’re not krn rite? i would guess so from ur comment. stop judgin the way ppl think about beauty…ppl from different countries will think differently. e.g. many americans/australians may think jessica alba is HOT but azns think differently..because everyone IS DIFFERENT!

plz..as if hollywood stars havn’t got plastic. LOADS of ppl go plastic…they just choose to and there’s really nothing wrong with it. it’s just like..why do ppl change their hairstyles? to make themselves look better. ppl just think nothing’s wrong with changing hair coz it grows bak

  62. 62 ed June 6, 2007 at 5:24 am

yeah kim is right, Hollywood stars just make it a taboo to talk about their surgeries, or they have drunk driving, rehabs, dress-slips, etc etc for tabloid to pick from. not just surgery “secrets”. i wonder if kim ajoong’s real life story is even more interesting than her movie. if only errol morris would do a documentary about korea & plastic surgery :P

  63. 63 sasami22 June 6, 2007 at 8:18 am

its her life…GET OVER IT! everyone does and i don’t see why stars should be getting the worse of everything. Like lots of pplz said before a lot of talented stars are not recognized as they should be, and one of the reasons why is cuz they are not good looking! don’t u hear those stories from rain, whee sung, and ect. stars that are ugly and were turned down from many pplz? its not the stars that the fault should remain with, but with society and the entertainment business pplz. So stop dissin kim ah joong.

  64. 64 sexychikita June 7, 2007 at 8:01 pm

i’m used to it now..among korean stars!!i think it;s not a big deal anymore with them,if one had gone a plastic surgery, nose lift job, double eyelid,etc..i mean..it’s there lives anyways..whatever they want to do,the can do it as much as they knoe their limitations right?..i’m wondering what are the specific plastic surgeries offered to these stars, like chin reduction, cheeks enhancement, jaws implants,etc?..stuff like that..beacause they could try these also if they’re not contented..haha!!but those plastic surgeons are really great because the results are fantastic really!!!LOL!!!please answer my question..thanks!

koreans celebrities are prettier than japanese and taiwanese,no doubt about it.. :)

  65. 65 sexychikita June 7, 2007 at 8:06 pm

lots of hollywood stars have also undergone plastic surgeries..but the difference is that they are open about it to the press..look at supermodel janice dickinson!!she was open about all of her sugeries and botox..

there’s nothing about it anyway, you just have to know your limitations..

  66. 66 sexychikita June 7, 2007 at 8:13 pm

it’s really obvious that she really had undergone lots of plastic surgeries!!!!come on..look at her pictures!!!but she’s much more beautiful now!!!! :)

  67. 67 tyra June 9, 2007 at 5:02 pm

there is nuthin wrong with “sang ga phul”! Go Kim Ah Joong! ;)

    she’s natural.

  69. 69 Mona June 10, 2007 at 5:10 pm

I think it’s incredibly hurtful and ignorant that so many people see Korea as a plastic country, especially when the statistics shows that Japan and Taiwan have a higher rate of plastic surgery. I believe people have this illusion that Korea is obsessed with surgery because celebrities are pretty lax about discussing it, whereas other countries are much more tight-lipped.

  70. 70 popseoul June 11, 2007 at 11:02 am

sob- you can believe what you want but let the readers decide whether she has gotten surgery or not. But the fact remains that almost ALL celebrities in Korea have gotten something done! Why do you think there are so many plastic surgeons crammed into the Kangnam area? Why are there so many celebs that look so similar? I’m beginning to find it difficult to tell the difference between the female star. Why? Because they go to the same ‘top” surgeons who have mold their patients into their ideal of the perfect nose, chin, forehead etc. Also, again, I sound like a broken record but the difference between surgery is only a few milimeters. That’s the difference between fugly to ugly. So, if you want to move beyond ugly, you will need to get multiple surgeries.
mona- the rate of plastic surgeries may be higher in other countries because they probably count procedures such as getting double-lids whereas Korea probably does not count that as “surgery”. Even based on casual observation, many girls have gotten their eyes done and then the nose. You can tell! 80-90% of the ppl I know have gotten at least one thing done (eyes at the minimum, then nose). If you are still unsure, ask random girls if they have gotten their eyes done and most will tell you that they have.

  71. 71 jane =] June 11, 2007 at 11:08 am

i dont know about anything else, but she DEFINETLY got her nose done. and most probably eyes.

Brown tube can disort the real image.
I’m 175cm tall and 58Kg’s weight slim boy.
But when I looked my image in TV brwon tube,
I was muscular and firm looking.
So, just medium weight woman can be a fat girl on the TV.

At that time, I think she didn’t go diet yet.
I heard she was 58Kg before graduate high school.
And the capture is the moment when she is blinking, that’s why her eye looks idle…
    So ill-intentioned captures…

To guys: That’s her now. Now and ever, let go the past and keep moving forward.

To girls: Stop jealous, she is what she is now. You don’t feel good about it, get yourself a plastic surgery too.

  77. 77 Abc June 18, 2007 at 7:38 pm

Is a Plastic surgery so important with u guys? u like her face or u like her as she is KIM AH JOONG? i dont understand whats wrong with plastic surgery? i guess its hard to entertain ppl nowadays, ugly people cant get famous, while ugly transform to beauty let ppl critic…

  78. 78 Aivoxora June 19, 2007 at 7:55 pm

Well, whether she has it done or not, I don’t think that’s the problem. It’s so common in Korea now. It’s not a crime for wanting to be beautiful…..

About Korean is best-looking race ???? Pfttt, who said that is definitely watched too much dramas and movies. Other Asians are pretty too. There’s no such thing as “standard beauty” or “perfect beauty”.

  79. 79 Kevin June 22, 2007 at 1:06 pm

Okay and thats it i mean like at least she is still pretty and she has a great personalty and plus no body should stop liking her like my friends cause i mean like almost every single korean actress get plastic surgery

  80. 80 lhj June 23, 2007 at 2:50 am

lol, i think some of you guys here are just jealous of her. shes a great actress and being an artiste, part of her job is to look great and that is what she is doing IF she really gone under the knife. but i think her face is rather natural looking and isn’t as unnatural as some of you people have said here.

  81. 81 Mizuki^^ June 25, 2007 at 7:42 pm

WHAT IF SHE IS NOT 100% NATURAL????!!!!!
SHE IS A GOOD ACTRESS AND FINAL

I PUT MY SUPORT IN SHE^^

    FIGHTING!!!!!

  83. 83 Em June 27, 2007 at 8:49 pm

i’ve seen lot worse than this—Yumi from highkick. That was a real shock

  84. 84 azaazajoojihoon June 29, 2007 at 3:39 pm

I loved her in 200 pounds of beauty and I kinda knew that she had plastic surgery done but as for other stars I’m not the biggest expert on that. I would really be sad if someday it was revealed that my favorite stars; Song Hye Kyo, Kim Tae Hee, and Yoon Eun Hye have plastic faces. If they really do, pleaz tell me.

  85. 85 st June 30, 2007 at 8:15 am

I think this is wrong information…because I was on Soompi and they showed pictures that said Kim Ajoong did not have plastic surgery…it was something made up by netizens
    here is the link
    http://gall.dcinside.com/list.php?id=news_entertainment&page=&keyword=&no=962404&k_type=&search_pos=
Well…seeing this she DEFINATELY didn’t have even half the surgery you mentioned…because I highly doubt she got eyelid surgery in highschool at that time… you should post this up as well…what you posted were all bad pictures at wrong angels/timings.

  86. 86 KAJ FTW July 1, 2007 at 7:16 pm

can not believe all the pain it too also

  90. 90 aimoon210 July 4, 2007 at 5:14 pm

wow ~ that is really big changes of her !
why many korean star do the plastic surgery ?
can you who tell me that which artist in korea is nature look?

  91. 91 june July 7, 2007 at 4:03 am

Wow. A lot of people are saying that there is no real Korean beauties. Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. BUT Kim Tae Hui and Song Hye Gyo are very well known for being natural beauties, and very beautiful ones at that.

Please don’t assume that all Koreans have had plastic surgery because some have. Stereotypes are something I hate.

And doesn’t every race have that, “Oh, we are the best and the most beautiful,” sometimes? There are going to be racists wherever you go, in every country.

Although I don’t think anything’s wrong with plastic surgery. Have you realized how many people judge others on appearances? Even now! You guys are judging her because she’s a girl who got pretty by plastic surgery. It’s easy for me to relate to a person is not pretty, and feels that life be much happier if she was beautiful. I just think it’s not right for you guys to talk about plastic surgery as a bad thing.

I like how the movie shows that “beautiful” girls are treated in a nicer way that the “ugly” ones.

    Very touching movie.

And it’s obvious most of you guys aren’t Korean. ;D

  92. 92 Joy July 13, 2007 at 5:54 am

I knew it! I watched it over again 2x and I knew there was something not exactly “natural” about her face. I guessed that she had a nose job done and teeth surgery - veneers put in. I was right hehe! But I guess in the “celeb world” not much is “real” anymore. Comes with the job I guess.

I think being healthy and happy is most important :D But everyone’s values are different.

    Stay happy y’all…
    Joy.

  93. 93 A July 13, 2007 at 2:21 pm

Hmmmm, I think people have a very negative view on what plastic surgery is without fulling understanding why this it exists. If people do just a little bit more reading they’ll realise that besides celebs (in Hollywood and Asia)undergoing surgery for cosmetic reasons, there are a whole bunch of aesthetic/reconstructive reasons for doing plastic surgery. Some people are born with deformed parts of their face/bodies which requires reconstructing. Others somehow injure themselves (playing contact sports etc) to the extent that it requires repair and surgery.

I have a friend who will have to undergo surgery in the future to straighten the bridge of her nose which is bent in a way that it prevents her from breathing through her nose at all. It was bent because she was born that way, not like she chose to have it that way. Can you imagine going through life not being able to breathe through your nose at all? The main purpose of your nose is for breathing. So by lumping everyone who undergoes surgery with a plastic surgeon as “vain” or doing it to look prettier I think is very ignorant. There is a higher percentage of people who NEED the surgery to lead a better life rather than for purely cosmetic reasons.

And also, it’s called “plastic” surgery because the origin of the word comes from the Greek word “plastikos” meaning to mold/shape. It has nothing to do with the synthetic polymer we know as “plastic”. Just look it up and see. So a nose is not “fake” (unless you’re Michael Jackson who has no flesh left because he has undergone multiple rhinoplastys) because it has undergone plastic surgery. It is usually someone’s natural nose which has been redefined (for cosmetic reasons) or reshaped/repaired (for aesthetic reasons).

I’m not in anyway supporting the booming cosmetic surgery trend, instead I’m merely pointing out that there are a huge majority of those out there who do it for other reasons than looking pretty.

  94. 94 A July 13, 2007 at 2:24 pm

Pardon my grammatical mistakes - wish there was an edit button here

  95. 95 Dalphienie July 14, 2007 at 11:54 am

OMG!!!!no wonder her teeth look so fake she undergo Plastic surgery!Maybe in the 200 pounds beauty the fat one is like her at first then the pretty one is like her now…..?

  96. 96 Ciara July 15, 2007 at 3:04 am

She looks really pretty now. I didn’t see anything wrong with her before. But, I guess to be a celeb. your looks really matter more than your acting ability.
I don’t think any race is more beautiful than another, everyone has a different perception of beauty in this world.
I hope some asians keep there natural beauty and single folded eyes, our difference is what most people find beautiful in different ethnic groups.

  97. 97 DJ Kim July 15, 2007 at 3:35 am

Nothing’s wrong with plastic surgery, if it is to help an individual’s self esteem.

She looks great! But it ain’t going to help her children. They’ll still look like her prior to surgery. Let’s hope she puts away a plastic surgery fund for each of her future children (in additional to the college fund) so they can look as beautiful as mom. He he.

  98. 98 laura July 17, 2007 at 2:42 pm

DJ kim, that is an extremely shallow thing to say.
besides, if everyone could just perform plastic surgery and look beautiful, then where will all the “ugly” people go? it’ll just set a new standard for beauty and everyone will still compete against one another and new set of “ugly” people will appear.

  99. 99 Mingna July 17, 2007 at 8:27 pm

i knew it. she’s “too pretty” that it’s “unnatural”

  100. 100 salman July 20, 2007 at 5:34 am

    my lecturer said that
people who wanted to become an actress or actor at korea
must be superbly good in acting , know how to play any kind of music instrument (one instrument would be enough) and must get crying in 3 second .
even if u had bad ugly face, the producer will pay u to go get plastic surgery then change u into super hot-looking person.

well the business of advertising and entertainment need pretty face to sell their product. the only way for them to convince people.

plastic surgery in korea is quite cheap compare to other country, so almost everybody at korea can afford it. so dont worry bout yur kid college fund.

so my conclusion is dat people who wanted to become an entertainer at korea , dat person must be very good on it.

the other conclusion , it is their right to have pretty face. men just adore pretty face.

  101. 101 Jane July 20, 2007 at 5:59 am

people who believe everything that’s written on the internet are gullible. take everything with a pinch of salt.

usually anti fans put up fake before photos.
all these news about plastic surgery are grossly exaggerated.

  104. 104 dumplings July 28, 2007 at 6:08 am

it is pretty obvious that she’s gotten plastic surgery. it’s a shame that so many korean women go under the knife — twenty years down the line they’re all going to start falling apart at the seams.

  105. 105 mimi416 August 1, 2007 at 11:16 am

Personally, i dont care if she had surgery. it doesnt take away from the fact that she is talented. I just wanna know who her doctor is, so i can get some!!!!

  106. 106 OhHiOh August 3, 2007 at 12:45 am

You can easily find someone who looks similar to someone else and say they had surgery. And you can easily take a picture of her relatives that look her her and say it’s her. And you can easily edit and photoshop a picture to look like her. And finally, it doesn’t matter if she had plastic surgery. All that matters now is that shes hot and sexy right now. Are you? If you’re a girl, stop the envy. If you’re a guy, get a dick. Thanks.

  107. 107 fiona August 3, 2007 at 11:24 pm

is it really true?i can’t believe she was the girl at the left side. they looked different…however, it’s really nice to see her great beauty…well, she kinda spent millions to reconstruct her face…anyway,is she rich before she became an actress??

  108. 108 Suzu August 6, 2007 at 2:59 pm

    hahah whoaa omgoodness o_o

  109. 109 RoxyBathory August 7, 2007 at 7:49 pm

There is nothing wrong in undergoing some cosmetic surgery to improve any part of your body. As long as it looks natural and won’t turn you looking like an android/cyborg/monster… that is okay.

But of course, being beautiful the NATURAL WAY is still and always be a PLUS FACTOR! Also, don’t forget that PERSONALITY IS THE HIGHEST-REGARDED OF ALL ASPECTS in a person. What’s the use of goddess-like beauty if you look sluggish or simply having an ugly view of life?

  110. 110 ezra August 16, 2007 at 9:40 pm

Plastic surgery is part of Korea’s culture. I think it’s a matter of perspective. If Koreans want to look pretty, then they go under the knife. And let’s not be hypocrites. We LOVE artists especially when their gorgeous, right? Real of unreal, it’s what stars have to sacrifice for a living. We can’t blame them. It’s culture. There’s no BAD culture, again, it’s just a matter of perspective. Anyway, she looks really, really pretty. =D

  111. 111 van August 21, 2007 at 10:46 am

    no I can’t believe it!! this is a joke!!1

  112. 112 shin bi August 21, 2007 at 11:10 am

we’re from different regions and different cultures so we have different concepts of beauty…

and we all go through from childhood to puberty to adulthood.. i was reallys so chubby when i was younger and now i really look different…

we shouldnt judge others by the pictures shown alone..

and if ever she went under the knife, it’s okay… it did her well anyway and besides there really are faces where you really have to take several glances or you really have to stare to appreaciate it.. i experience like the more you look at the person the more he or she becomes goodlooking to you … lol

  113. 113 odnoo August 22, 2007 at 2:21 am

  120. 120 pixyfier(girl) August 30, 2007 at 10:35 pm

I feel bad about other people’s opinions on Kim Ah Joong’s beauty.
Why is it a big deal for them knowing that a person isn’t a natural beauty????
And if Kim Ah Joong isn’t how can she act and sing. I think it were hard for her to do those things.
    And if she’s fat before???
Everything in this world undergoes change.

What if she would admit that she really had plastic surgery done? Would it make them feel better?

People are really hard to understand.

I really like her the first time i saw her in the Bizarre Bunch. She’s also a great actress and a good singer.
We’ll anyways…we have our own point of views. Others might not like her because she’s not a natural beauty.

For me if either she did or not. I would still accept her and admire her not only because of her appearance.
I probably would not like her if she’s beautiful but not talented and good…
I think others are just focusing on one spot or what so ever. I believe that we also have to see the positive, not only the negative.
Let’s think twice or plenty of times before making our judgment cause it would be really unfair to her!!!

I will support her no matter what!!! I just hope that she would stay beautiful not only on the outside but also in the inside!
And if she’s not stepping on others and hurting others.
I like her! She’s so great.

So sad to others who’s having a hard time thinking and criticizing her…
It’s really true that you can’t please everybody!!! :)
    Ahhh…REALItY…
    HUman Nature!!!
Can’t help it, it’s really hard to understand.

I hope Kim Ah Joong will be successfull in her career!
Dreams are really hard to achieve. there are many things you have to undergo for it. You’ll just have to be strong and a fighter and have faith in
    God and yourself!
I believe in You Kim Ah JOong!!! I believe in what you can do!! :)

  121. 121 pixyfier(girl) August 30, 2007 at 10:53 pm

“I knew it!” - REALLY???you really knew it?
    “is it really true???”- true???
    “OMG”- So unbelievable
    “Damn”- Coz you’ve been fooled?

I hate people who are jealous and have nothing to do with their lives!!! Acting as if they knew everything and that they can tell the truth!!
So mad because of what they just heard!!!
People who also jumps into conclusion without thinking twice!

Oh…guys!! Grow up!!! If you’re jealous then…have yourself done to become more beautiful. Just because you see a beautiful girl. Without justifiable reasons!
And some guys over there, if you’re mad about it, then just let it be! It’s your nature.
    Talking nonsense!!!

    Haha…so funny!!!
It’s really hard for them. Too bad for them. :(

  122. 122 Disturbed September 5, 2007 at 4:30 pm

So what if she has gotten plastic surgery? In some countries it’s not even legal. We should just be thankful that God has made us what we are. Everybody is beautiful in their own ways.

  123. 123 j September 8, 2007 at 8:31 pm

    OOOOHHH. myyyy.

maybe, maybe all girls should start considering ps a viable option.

i mean, whoa look at the results!

    it’s more tempting than anything.

  124. 124 hihs September 14, 2007 at 11:56 pm

most of the korean actress have plastic surgery.. They aren’t natural beautiful………………………….

  125. 125 Natural10 September 15, 2007 at 3:24 pm

MOST KOREAN ACTRESSES HAVE FAKE FACIAL FEATURES…..come on guys, you really think Korean girls are all that natural? Think again?

There was a show on “Ohpra” about Korean people having the #1 plastic surgery in the world, even beat the Vietnamese. Shocking!! Every Korean girls wish on their 18th birthday is to have a rich parent to pay for plastic surgery, mainly the eyes. Why? Because most Korean people have small eyes, it’s their trade mark. Koreans want to change that look because they want to have American features. Sorry people, but genetic is genetic. It will not pass onto your kids. Each generation will have to do plastic surgery until eventually there’s no more Korean features in this world since Koreans hate their own features so much. What happen to Korean Pride!!

Why do you think Korean daughters don’t look like their mothers? Hint. Hint. Don’t be stupid. Don’t let them fool you!!

  126. 126 Z September 17, 2007 at 7:23 am

She didn’t look prety before, and she still doesn’t look pretty now. Her face looks really fake.
But, she does have a nice bod. Thats the only good thing about her.

popseoul you’ve really enlightened me on koreans and plastic surgery LOL. well i am a korean culture newbie anyway lol. actually, i am not surprised that KAJ is a plastic. i watched the 200lb movie (which kinda sucked too lol) and i had a nagging feeling about it. she doesn’t look the least bit natural.

  130. 130 Alicia October 3, 2007 at 2:01 am

I figured she had work done on her face while i was watching the movie…i think i noticed it most during the scene where she’s crying to the guy in the studio in her blue dress…there was a close up to her face n i was like..hmmm…I’m trying to find some ‘natural beauties’ online..but it’s difficult! …perhaps…jeon ji hyeon? Han Ji Hye? Han Hyo Joo? meh

  131. 131 Jackie October 5, 2007 at 1:15 pm

Kim A.J. played her part very very well…

I think the writer of this movie made his/her point. In today’s society… it’s take more than just talent… beauty is the other unfortunate requirement… hence… for those who lack it… there’s now an alternative :) But there’s other prices you have to pay beside the surgery… criticisms.

I’m sure any guys out there wouldn’t wait a second to get with Kim…

For those who think’s lowly of Kim A.J.: (or any other actors.. actresses who had plastic surgery)

Have you seen a fat pop singer before?

better yet… would you like to see one?

    I thought so…. :)

    cheers

  132. 132 erb October 9, 2007 at 5:49 am

well, In her case, it was obvious wasnt it?

her face structures are strange… in a beautifully decorated way.

anyhow, Im personally okay with ppl undergoing plastic surgery if they have real talents, and I think everyone here will be in favour with me that this girl is special =]She has beautiful voice.

  133. 133 BaO October 11, 2007 at 9:44 am

gawd….korean girls get too much plastic surgreys….U_U

  134. 134 fatsoko October 14, 2007 at 1:14 pm

Oh god. I can’t believe I’m writing this. Initially, I clicked on this because 200 lbs the movie is one of friend’s favorites right? So I kind of laughed it off at the irony of the role.

I don’t know much about Kim Ah Joong but it’s obvious that she went under the knife, even with the argument that she is a natural beauty. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that plastic surgery is like candy in the entertainment industry. People in the industry want it even though they know that it may not be good for them.

I agree that plastic surgery is getting out of control. Didn’t any of you guys see that one special (on CNN?) a long time about with the Barbie girl? She is so damned addicted to surgeries that it’s just pathetic.

Plastic surgery shouldn’t be abused. It’s a wonderful advancement in technology that has the potential to help people with really severe problems but it’s being so abused by the entertainment industry.

I know that ‘it may be part of the job and the industry’ but it doesn’t make it any less frustrating. Just because people have the money, they think that buying a new nose is just so damn cool. (I’m rolling my eyes.)

And a note to Sana. You are really NAIVE if you think that Koreans are ‘innocent’ and bs. Don’t put strangers on a pedestal like that. I don’t care what race they are. You’re practically admitting to the world that you’re belittling yourself.

    Let me breathe.

I’m glad I got that off of my chest.

Bash me if you like Popseoul readers. I don’t care. I’m just telling it as it is.
