YG Entertainment has taken Sandara Park, of former Philippines fame, under its wing. Sandara was a triple threat, although threat might not be the right word. A few years ago, she thought that she should take her shot at the Korean pop scene. Obviously, she was unsuccessful. Some people criticized her for being all hype but no substance. But when she returned to the Philippines, she wasn’t welcomed with open arms. Her fans felt that she sold out and now was expecting to loved again. And now, here she is again, as a YG trainee along side Park Bom.
YG Family is known to deal out raw talent with less emphasis on appearance than their plastic counterparts. But now they have a member who’s stark resemblance to a certain SM Town artist is uncanny. Is YG trying to get into the pop princess business, or does this girl have what it really takes to take Korea by storm?

She became famous once in the Philippines not because she was very talented but because of the media hype and also because she is a Korean and during that time Korean wave has reached our country so of course anything about Korean were being patronized. However after one or two movies, Filipinos realized that her talents were just ordinary and before she knew it, her career was gone. She left the Philippines for good because she realized it’s useless to stay here because she has no career her anymore.

The truth might hurt.. but Sandara was a fad. Just like any other fad, the sparkle fades away if there’s no talent behind the girl. No amount of marketing or good publicity can help someone stay popular in the Philippines if people find out eventually that you’ve got no talent (or little of it). There’s too many competition — too many talents that keeps popping up daily. It’s really was a sad thing what happened to Sandara in the Philippines but I sincerely wish her the best of luck in all her future endeavors.

She got famous in the Philippines like mylasan said. The K-wave music started with BoA (as soon as she hit magazine stands) and then they realize Sandara was Korean, so then they wanted to know about the Koreans and if she had the same kind of talent. She got famous in the PI becuase they thought she had this certain charm/cute charisma that got everyone’s attention in this start search. though she didn’t win, she was always paired up in a “love team” (one of the things that annoy me about the philippines and their actors/actresses) with the winner of the show. They were really big together, until news spread that she broke up with him and has a new guy. THAT new couple (it was a real couple this time, but also a new love team) was hated deeply. So she went back to Korea.
Either way, I’ve seen the news about this on ShenYue, and you have the facts down right. She knows English, Korean, and Tagalog. That’s the reason why so many Koreans go to the Philippines, to learn English. But in this case, her dad’s company went broke and they moved to Korea. She hated Philippines, so it’s rumored. But she ping ponged back and forth to Korea and the Philippines - loosing so many fans for being gone far too long.
Though I love YG entertainment to death, cuz they keep it real…. I HIGHLY doubt to the ends of the earth, that she can be the next BoA. She doesn’t have… that… much talent to begin with. Her voice is very flat and has like one note change… Her choreography in the Philippines is a joke (then again, Koreans are known for their B-boy/b-girl gift of dancing). Isn’t she BoA’s age? I think it’s a bit late to make a child star made a child adult….

The thing i like about YG is that rather than mass producing mediocre stars like SM, they take the time to train their ppl right. YG stars can train up to years before their debut such as Se7en and Big Bang (GD and Taeyang i believe were in YG since they were 12 til they debuted last year). Even if her vocals are sos o now after the training it should be much better. Plus if she doesn;t get better YG can drop her or continue to train her, they have done that to trainees who aren’t ready yet.

YG artists are not the only trainees who train for long periods of time. More than Half of SNSD and Super Junior trained for five or more years. Xiah Junsu of DBSK trained for about six years before his debut and the lead singer of WG (Sorry, can’t remember her name ><) trained for about five to six years also.
celebrities *training* several years in korea doesn’t mean they’re going to be really good when they debut. even popular celebrities like boa or dbsk still lacks in skill and quality in a lot of ways. and i don’t even get why se7en & rain are picked to be korea’s best exports…? those are the ‘best’?

In Korea you cannot just be a pretty face to be an actress. All must go to a certain training or should be a graduate in Art School to get in. I think any agency would not exert any effort if don’t see something in an aspiring talent. Sandara would just work hard just like anybody else to get a place in Korean entertainment world. Se7en was like that before he got it big. Practice and working hard is key Sandara… Goodluck!
Aya Medel is also trying her luck in Korea. I had watched her interviewed by Heart to Heart in Arirang TV. She said she is still learning the language and then would take some auditions after that.

I thought YG was known for their talent? After watching that video, there is no way she could’ve gotten into YG with that. I know YG is losing artists from left to right, but resorting to someone with a somewhat semi-decent face is pretty weak. Face it, she can’t really sing, and from her movies she can’t really act. I don’t know, maybe YG will do some super secret training that will improve what Sandara has, or she might be the first in YG to ever lipsynch a preformace.
I understand Se7en may not be the best (and being the best may not even exist because it’s a matter of opinion) but you have to give the guy some credit. he worked hard even while his intestines were tangled and he dropped many pounds.
I bring up Rain as an example (especially since there’s always a Se7en VS Rain thing going around and always being compared) of truely being overated.

Okay, I haven’t listened to much Lee Seung Gi over the years, but what my friends give me are pretty good. But this is a BOY GROUP, how many boy groups actually write their own songs? I haven’t heard any news on DBSK writing their own songs (then again, I don’t keep up with them much anymore) and I sure as hell don’t hear SuJu writing any of their own songs. Yeah, BIG BANG may not write many, but the fact that he wrote this one and their finally at their prime…and it happened to hit number one… I mean, that deserves some credit as well.
I can’t say much about the tickets, since I’m not familiar with how fast tickets normally sell at a concert in Korea. But all I know is, it sounded pretty damn good when I found out that they sold in that little amount of time.

During that time, she was the only Korean who joined the star search. In the initial screening, she should have been eliminated because the judges didn’t see anything special about her. In order not to be eliminated, she made something stupid to herself. She hit her head with her guitar and the judges were really shocked and amused with what she did and so they changed their minds and let her enter the 2nd screening. After that, she find ways to look funny. She had difficulties speaking in English and Tagalog and always trying to make herself to look stupid and the viewers who were watching on TVs were very amused with what she was doing to herself. They find her funny antics rather cute and so adorable. Because of that, she reached the finals not because she had talents but because she had the no. of text votes. In fact one of the contestants who was eliminated complained that Sandara should be the one to be elimninated instead of her because she got the lowest scores from all of the judges in all of their activities. However, the judges told her that Sandara got the highest text votes so they couldn’t do about it.

i never expected that she’ll be here, but its good that she’s training again because she really do needs it and im going to support her, i hope she does well, like she did before in the phil after things didnt go that well, but i hope she wouldnt forget the phil though, even though she’s in Korea now, i think she’ll be a good model though, but more training in singing and acting…
sandara is 23 i believe cause she was born in 84 (at least that’s what i read). i don’t believe that she’s too old to try and make it big… i think the biggest flaw of korea (and other asian countries) is the fact that put too much of an emphasis on youth… its like once you’re past like 20 you’re considered too old. so you end up with little kids running around trying to be popstars and acting and dressing like they are a lot older than they really are… kinda ironic right?
and i just watched her video and all i gotta say is i hope she trains for a couple of years cause judging by that video she is not ready for a debut. her voice is so 0_o its kinda like she’s talking.
When i said mediocre stars i meant right now. (just to clear it up) DBSK, BoA and etc were all great. And I’m fans of them. But please all this super junior and the subgroups A B C D Z R and w.e. crap (no offense, i just don;t like them) they are pulling out is just plain stupid. It’s already proven they need more vocal training and SM is mainly capitalizing on their looks(that’s what i think). Se7en may not have the best vocal but his vocals are better than a lot of the pop stars out there today. (ppl have mentioned em b4, no need to repeat) Big Bang is better than most of the other new boy bands out there imo. rather than being generic they have more of their own style. Plus GD produces and composes a lot of their song. No matter what, you have to admit thats talent. Now on Sandra we can;t completely judge her on how she sang in the past. With enough training her vocals will definitely be better. Whether its good enough is still up for questions.
i don’t think sandara would really make it…. hopefully she’ll act better in korean and not as awkward as she does in filipino…i bet if she doesn’t make she’ll come to phil again… and I thought she was going to study dat’s why she went back? I was kinda surprise to see her here…

@ RoflMyWaffle Yeah okay i see you have some unresolved issue with YG and se7en and Big Bang or something. I don’t get what’s so funny about SM being mediocre. As i said above i meant recently. All the talent in SM has left except for a few, now they are resorting to gimmicks such as big group of plastic dolls. SM is no where near it’s glory days. Accept that the once great company is now cranking out stars that are nowhere near the ones they used to bring. I do have to say Korean music has been going downhill.
Last 2005 she just tried to study and to be train in korean industries, but unfortunately she have to come back to the phils. because she still have contract in ABS-CBN, until September of 2007…
So as you all know, since she ends her contract at ABS, and she want’s to fulfill her dreams, so she continue what she left in korea, way back 2005…
About the statement of others, that she was not successful as before, well…. In Phils. ShoWbiz Indistries, there is no word for successful/star or unsccessful, your chance to become hit in the phils. is defends on the management of your company… They can make you big or they can dump you.. In case of Sandara, she’s still have lots of supporters and her movies goes really well… But unfortunately, her management did not gave her anymore projects…
Being in the phils. showbiz industries, In my opinion I thinks it considered also a training ground for her… I think she learned a lot in the Phils. in acting, singing and dancing as well… She improved a lot, from what i saw wayback 2004… Specially her language skills…

i was never a fan of sandara when she became sOoO famous in the phiLs. LIke what aLot of you have said, it was aLL because of charisma. No reaL taLent at aLL. but for some reasons, i wanna keep an eye on her debut in korea. who knows, maybe she has some taLent to show now since she trained with yg. it makes me curious if she’s going to make it. btw, the youtube video that popseouL posted is one of her oLd songs which is reaLLy annoying!! hahahaha!! i hate that one! sandara park’s career in the philippines, let’s face it was successful BUT short lived because she had problems with her “loveteam” and aside from that, she left and went back to Korea. whether or not she went their to try out at YG or to study, i don’t know but when she came back, she had a lukewarm welcome and didn’t have enough projects from her then mother studio ABS-CBN to save her career…she had another short stint at RPN 9 but alas didn’t get the attention the show’s expecting…the girl has charms and wit but as for talent, YG has to invest a WHOLE lot to train her.could someone send YG a copy of her album or something? or do they have it already?
but we’ll never know…YG might surprise us..they might just transform sandara into something we never saw in the philippines…but the next BoA, no way. not by a long shot.

Oh, I remember one interview wherein Sandara was asked if she became popular in Korea after a documentary on her Philippine stardom was aired there. You know what she said? She said something that went like this, “In Korea, talent is very important. They forgot me already.” She herself acknowledged that she didn’t have much talent to begin with. But hey, if she makes it there, good for her!
@Big A: i don’t think “shunned” is the right word…the filipinos didn’t actually shun her…we filipinos don’t shun other people, especially celebrities foreign or local, unless of course we have reason to dislike them.
i’m quite offended that you imply a generalization on all Philippine films, dramas and MVs are of poor quality…what filipino films/MVs/dramas have you seen lately? if we don’t make quality films, why is Hollywood doing their own version of a Filipino film called “Sigaw” which will star Jesse Bradford (Flag of our fathers) and is directed by a Filipino director Yam Laranas? why do we win
we don’t shun foreign artists who want make it here in the Philippines as actors and actresses…sometimes, we even pay much attention to them more than the local artists that we have…if sandara wants to try her luck in Korea and has enough guts to hack it, then by all means, go ahead. what we are saying is what we say when she was still here. she had charm, wit and riding the hallyu wave but she didn’t have enough talent to lay on the table…and besides she was the one who left the first time back in 2005, and she said she was gonna study (apparently she auditioned for YG during that time)…by the time she came back, there were not enough projects given to her so there…it was her choice to leave back then so she suffered the consequences when she came back. there were even speculations that she was going to join Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition part II, which has a huge following here.

^^^@BIGA - don’t underestimate philippines…maybe koreans have put a lot money into production but talent wise, Filipinos can compete just given proper exposures…i’m not Filipino but I studied there and I tell u if Filipino artists are given a chance to be known, our korean artists will be stunned! just looked at this filipina girl that had an appearance in star kings with suju! there are so many filipinos that are talented and somehow better than our k-pop artists!

Annyongforjieun is right. Given a chance, our stars could compete well. And as she had said, take a look at this Filipina girl who was just a finalist in a singing contest here in the Philippines. Just watch how the Super Juniors were stunned by her performance. And to think that this girl is not even a professional singer and ended only 3rd runner up in the singing contest she had joined here. That’s how talented Filipinos are!

I already heard this news, I don’t know that she will become a trainee of YG….. She is really famous in the Philippines and her fans kept growing and growing. Maybe she is a foreigner, she caught the attention of the Filipinos. And maybe because of her cutie image, her cutie songs and her funny acting in movies….. I think she don’t have that talent, but I think if we will give her the chance to go back in the limelight, maybe she could make it if she will train hard and always be patient…..

Big A - I too…. hate Filipino movies… it’s poorly produced (unless it’s a drama or comedy). But really, they take anyone who is pretty. BUT recently, quality has gotten better, and there are a lot better young actresses now. And like Kewlnbubbly said… Filipinos are definitely not the type to shun. In fact, we shouldn’t even like Koreans, Japanese, or Chinese. They’ve done a lot of bad to the Philippines, but we forgive and forget (unlike other…asian…countries). P.S. we aren’t exactly the “richest” country. We work with what we have, and people are happy. Our ballad singers are just as great as Korean ballad singers.
Then again, Koreans love anyone who can speak English… but besides that, this YOUNG girl definitely had voice. “Unbelebable”

He used to be part of a hot group, but now he’s a famous solo artist in his country, now in the Philipines. Why not? He’s a great rapper and dancer, and good looking, so he’s now in the Philippines. Now joining with Sandara…so Anyungahsayo. *introduces LJJ to the stage* Now it’s Sandara singing with her…flat voice… The girls for some reason scream when LJJ when LJJ is talking….like they understand… But actually, it’s because Hero, her “love partner” in the “love team” (as i mentioned in my earlier post) is pretending to be man.

i admit something was lacking with sandara when she was in the philippines - maybe it was the language factor. even if she understood filipino, it’s different if you act using your native language right? it would put more feeling into it i guess. it’s also most likely that she was catapulted into fame in the philippines because she’s korean and at that time, the korean wave was very big in the philippines.
BUT i think sandara has talent. maybe she’s not great in singing (she’s in tune but her voice is not for competition) or dancing (she got better through time but she really can’t go into a dance battle) but i think she’d be great in comedy. she really is funny. she has the facial expressions and the personality. she would have been great in the dangyunhaji portion of xman. the things she said were normal if other artists said them, but when the words come out from her mouth, i dunno, it’s really funny. i guess it’s because there’s a refreshing touch of honesty in her answers during interviews.
towards the the end of her career in the philippines, i kind of pitied her. i want her to be successful in korea, but i don’t want her to be in a bubble gum girl pop group. i hope YG develops her into something more than a fad.
