There was a bit of sunshine on the red carpet but no secrets. At least none that we know of.
At the Sixth Korean Film Awards, the night belonged to Secret Sunshine (밀양) with Cannes award winner for Best Actress Jeon Do-yeon, co-star Song Kang ho and director, Lee Chang-dong. Korean-as-a-second-language hottie Daniel Henney was recognized for his English acting skills in his portrayal of adopted son in My Father and the no-show Song Hye-gyo nabbed the Best New Actress award for Hwangjini. Also, Shim Hyung-rae’s disastrous over hyped film, D-War (aka Dragon Wars) managed to get a nod for its special effects.

However, on the red carpet, it was no secret that the queen of the night was Kim Hye-soo. The voluptuous star gave “fan service” by bringing out her assets.

Black & White
Korean fashion magazines are touting that black is back. Indeed, the red carpet was awash with black and white - again. You would think that if all the dresses are borrowed, the stars would be a bit more daring in terms of color. Or maybe they were being respectful by not wearing something flashy…
Chu Ja Hyun. Sparkle at the neckline to a boring black dress still makes it boring.
Han Chae Young looks washed out in this black. The dress would have been a stand-out if it was a brighter color. Too bad.
Kim Hyesoo’s assets need a post of their own. The curvy star looks fabulous in this super simple but too long black dress. Hope she didn’t fall or trip.
Kim Ji Soo. The sparkles have migrated to the bust area from Chu Ja-hyun’s dress.
Lee Hana. A very Elvira type dress. And what’s that on her head? This is not a wedding.
Song Yuna. Did I mention that yellow was difficult to wear? This is especially true if the colors are that of a bumble bee.
Son Yeh Jin and Kim Myung Min. Not feeling the underwire on the dress…the straps make it interesting though. Again, another dress that would look better if it were a brighter color. This is getting depressing.
Hyun Young. The plain cream dress frames her neckline nicely, but the dress is average.
Jo Eun Ji.This woman needs a makeover. First, her bowl cut does not flatter her face. Second, the white dress has pictures of women at the bottom. Third, black stockings and sheer white dress do not go together. F.Y.I, it was not that cold last night - about 10 c.
Kim Ajoong looks fabulous in this black n’ white satin gown! Her makeup is also flawless.
Color
Finally, some color! Although the favorite color of the evening was red, the dresses, for the most part, should have stayed in the closet. However, Jun Do-yeon’s moss green satin dress was gorgeous.
Kwak Ji Min. A simple red dress that would lovelier with better accessories.
Lee Young Eun. Too much. This looks like an Andre Kim creation. Enough said.
Son Tae Young. Not sure what to make out of this dress. Seems to be Missoni inspired. Something I would not have chosen. The Ralph Lauren dress worn by Kim A-joong at the Daejong Awards was a better pick.
Jun Hae Jin. This should have stayed in the closet.
Jun Do Yeon.Gorgeous moss green dress! Usually, anything bulking up the shoulders is a no-no, but on this dress, it works.
Kim Hyun Sook. The color is very pretty. The fit is great. But… the top of the dress bothers me.
Kim Min Sun. The thin straps on the back of the dress are sexy but the color, a drab purple, looks like an ajuma color. Better if the dress was black.
Kim Taehee. Depending on the screen, this navy-purple dress is a perfect fit on top, but the length of the dress is about 30 cm short of being classy. Besides, it’s just too tight to be that short. This would look better on a sexier diva such as Lee Hyori.
Lee Hye Young. Another closet dress. We know that Lee Hye-young still has a great figure and she has the haughty air to pull off the dress worn by Lee Hana above. Even Lee Hana’s hat would look good on her.
Lee Yun Hee.This purple empire waist dress works on her because she is so thin. The dress look very comfortable, but that’s about it.
Oh Seung Eun. Hmmm. First, I would never be caught dead in this copper color. Second, what’s going on at the top of her dress? What are those frilly things?
The Gents
High shine was the theme for the gentlemen at the Korean Film Awards. If you haven’t noticed, the greater male working population in Korea is wearing shiny suits. So I guess, the male celebrities are leading the way.
Daniel Henney. Such a handsome man but such a bad navy suit. The suit looks polyester and borrowed from his dad’s closet.
Jang Gun Suk. Man, this guy has packed on the makeup but the hat pulls this look together.
Ji Hyun Woo. Wow, an interesting fashion statement. The weather was not that cold so the scarf served no purpose than to add to the sparkley black suit.
Jo In Sung also has dipped into the color lotion for this event. The effeminate star looks great in the classic black suit with bow-tie.
Jo Min Ki looks awkward.
Joo Jin Mo. Sexy Joo Jin-mo is slithery in this ultra shiny black suit. The man look better in jeans.
Jung Il Woo is too much black and too much shine (including his shirt!).
Jung Kyung Ho wears another shiny purple/black suit. Can’t wait until this trend dies.
Lee Sun Kyun and Oh Man Suk are all black except for the white bow tie and handkerchief. Did I mention that class is best?
Shim Hyung-rae represents the working ajasshs of the Korea in this shiny gray suit.
Outcasts
Andre Kim. Now we know his real color, and it’s not baby white.
Jo Won Suk. Ridiculous.
Oh my Gosh…. what the heck is wrong with the last guy. He’s going to a cheap-aZzzz beach party?????
Andre Kim never fails to amuse me. He must own like 500 of those white alien suits. Jo In sung looks amazingly hot. Probably the best looking/best dressed guy there. Kim Ajoong’s dress looks the best. If only if it were a bit shorter.
Enough with black dresses and suits! Illuminate those gorgeous Asian complexions with more elaborate colors. It seems like they all get just one fashion advisor everytime. Hire me instead!
I disagree.. yeonhee’s dress is weighing her down. . which is a shame cause shes a cute girl and that dress is beautiful
kth’s short tube dress is very cute on her. if it was any longer she wouldn’t be able to show off her legs and even might of caused her to look shorter. hmm could hyori pull it off? im not sure about purple anymore because of that awful tacky light purple rouched number she wore that last time. i just don’t see hyori in this dress
andre kim scares the living crap out of me. that man needs to stop wearing blankets as clothing, along with the clown makeup. painted hair? please… his head gleams in the light.

omggggg some of their makeup (including the guys’) is so white that it blinds my eye haahhaha kim ah joong loooks really diff these days….lip injections maybe??? and kim min sun’s eyes look so bigggg wowowo even bigger than usual.
i read an article regarding Song Hye-gyo in Hwangjini at another blog and they said her acting in the film was really bad. is this true? but how come she won at the 6th korean film awards? never saw the movie…i was just wondering

i disagree with you, i love that copper colour on oh seung eun’s dress, but the frilly thing doesn’t match the dress and i don’t like the top part of her dress.
the moss green dress is very pretty, i like it too…but i’m not too sure of those lacy things under the shoulder part..i can imagine the dress without it and it looks better.

some more color wd hve been better. my favs are: Jo In Sung and Kim Ajoong b/c the look splendid in the pics. jo in sung’s hair is kinda old fashionist though, i mean i like his hair in what happened in bali more but he looks so masculine and poised in the simple black suits. kim a joong’s dress fits her well, real well and the design is simple but flattering and stands out. over all, i think everyone looked great at the award except for some..

about SHK: very surprised she won. maybe her competitions are weak? she’s poised and alright for a supporting role. but this is a main role that needs depth and complex stuff she just didn’t have - maybe in few more years. oh well she looked hot:P
Daniel Henney’s colors would have looked better if it was like switched. The last dude Jo seems to look the best to me (haha) and the girls need better colors. Black is so dead…. literally. Andre Kim is just creepy.
Gals:
I disagree with Kim Hye Soo as the best dressed. The dress is fine but all I can think of when I see her is: boobs! The dress left nothing to the imagination and was actually really boring! (which popseoul likes use for every black dress and apparently got too distracted by someone’s cleavage to say that this dress is boring as well!)
Kim Ajoong’s dress was worn by Debra Messing to an award show a while back. It looks fine on her, but I would have ditched the cheapy looking fake pearl choker.
I thought Lee Yeon Hee didn’t look her best in that dress. It looked like she borrowed her mother’s dress. The dress is doing nothing for her and her makeup left her rather pale and sickly looking.
Kim Tae Hee looked gorgeous in her dress. I think a few inches longer would have made her look very conservative and shorten her legs a lot. I saw a different picture taken at a full frontal angle and the shortness really emphasized her legs and made them look a lot longer. I just love the color of her dress!
Guys:
Daniel Henney. What was he thinking? He looks like a pimp from the 70s. I have to say the color and the skinny pants are totally not working for him. He has wide shoulders so he should balance it out with wider legged pants. He looks really unproportioned.
Jang Gun Sook. The boy is pretty…but I swear the way he puts on makeup is like a gay guy (not that I have anything against them…(im gonna be drowned in flames from fans)). Hes a cutie and I wish he would tone the makeup down a little. He doesn’t need it with his natural good looks.
Joo Jin Moo. Good looking guy always with the worst fashion choices. He needs to fire his stylist. Whats with the shiny jacket? Reminds me of the way fresh fish is supposed to look…kind of rainbow-ish shiny. Needs to stick with classic suits such as the next person…
Jo In Sung: Winner of the night. Looked perfect in a classic simple black suit. Now thats what I call fashion!

I like it that KTH is wearing short dresses since she’s small. But I also agree that it would have been nicer and sexier if it’s an inch longer.However, the color’s very nice.
And congratulations to SHK for winning Best New Actress award. She deserves it. Those people saying that they doin’t like HYe Kyo’s acting on the movie is becasue they were also disappointed by the movie. They expected more like the Hwangjini portrayal by that actress…shocks, I forgot her name.
And someone said weaker competition. If this would be described to KTH, then, yes, she definitely is a weaker competition to SHK.

i personally wasn’t impressed with song hye kyo’s acting in “Hwang jini”. To me, she’s more recognized for her beauty and her acting has always been something of an afterthought. I’ve seen most of her performances and I feel like she brings the exact same emotions/expressions/actions to each one. oh well. she’s still pretty.
i was surprised that she was give the best new actress award because I thought this was a prestigious awards ceremony. her acting was mediocre AT BEST.

Did anyone see it? No, I mean, really “see” it unadulterated, through the eyes of a “non-fan.” Her acting was very awkward and non-believable at times.

Wow , I cannot believe they give Best new actress award to SGH. Did everyone see that ? SHG is not new to movie anymore. She was the main lead actress in My girl and I 2005-2006 movie, Hwang Jin Yi is her second movie, so how come is is a new actress in 2007? I cannot believe it, SHG need to be in the same caterory of Best actress to comepettion with the actress in Sunshine movie .
Maybe Hwang Jin Yi is a very big budget movie, so they have to give something for it to rescure the credit?

I think Kim Ah-Joong chose a great dress for the event. I love that it’s white with black accents instead of just boring black with white accents *snore. The dress is by Ralph Lauren for Spring ‘08 and Debra Messing wore it to the Emmys.

Jeon Do-yeon…I love her to pieces. My very favorite Korean actress. She looks gorgeous. I love when she smiles–her nose crinkles up. I saw a photo of the Euroasian actress Maggie Q wearing the exact same dress–same color and everything–and she didn’t look even half as beautiful as Do-yeon. Do-yeon needs to have a baby and pass on those genes.

The category for Best New Actress is for those actresses with less than 3 movie. That’s why SHK was nominated, and eventually won.
As for her winning the award, if you think SHK’s acting was not mediocre, then what do yo think of the other nominees? Hahaha. KTH? Or the others? I would definitely choose SHk’s acting.
There’s just too much expectation from her acting since Hwangjini TV series was a big hit. HJW was superb, blah blah. For me, HJW is a good actress but people don’t realized that HJW and SHK portrayed the same role but different sides of Hwangjini.
On the other note, KAJ’s dress is nice.
shk really deserves the award. she played a very different role in the movie. people just said that she didn’t deserve it because they’re not familiar with the role.
and of course, only the ‘different’ will catch the eye.
and this award is judged by the pro, not average person like us.
@choo& sonnet: it seems to me that many of SHG fans are ” NOSE UP IN THE AIR, as they compare themselve to other people arround them! Hope SHG is not like her fans!

Would SHG like her fans to be like that? Be hummble is better guys. You may not know even some people who never went to school, but with the ages, expericence and wisdom, they can be far more better than master degree educated people in their career. Also, you may not know, or experience behind the scene of some movie Oscar events, even in US. In some cases, even pro people still have money power influnce and dominate them, so you may not know. I’ve already heard few bad rumors about the recent Blue dragon award. So I do not trust the Korean movie awards much like before. It maybe a mess, you may not know!
Oh btw! Be careful SHG fans! you may make some people from having no probems with SHG to hate her because of her fan’s behavior toward themselve and other people. OK!

and they had that “who looks better in the same dress” with debra messing and KAJ in American OK! magazine. it was split 50-50 in terms of people’s opinions. But i think KAJ pulls it off better b/c she had her hair up and debra is a bit chubby for the dress.
