JYP wants you to lower your expectations for Rain

20071213_jyp

Best dressed producer/singer, JYP wants everybody to lower expectations for Rain. According to JYP, since Rain is a newbie businessman and relatively new actor, we all should give Rain (Bi) a break because everybody makes mistakes when they start out. JYP also added that he personally advised Rain to lower his expectations for himself and just take it one step at a time.

JYP is right. We should just all lower expectations for Rain, so we are not easily disappointed after Rain’s dumb mistakes and I was also right. JYP is still the Brain and Rain the Pinky.

    Yeah….
    I like Rain… He’s hot.

  2. 2 ohgeeze. December 12, 2007 at 9:34 am

    Wait.
    Is this picture recent?
I didn’t think JYP and Rain were still on good terms.
    Yeah, that’s true though.
No idea where Rain’s going in life now.
    He was better with JYP.
He’s not with him anymore right?

  3. 3 May December 12, 2007 at 9:47 am

Yes, JYP & Rain are still on good terms.
JYP revealed that in a recent article.

on the other hand, Rain’s shirt is almost unbuttoned all the way down. Whoo!

    You sexy thing.

  4. 4 Raye December 12, 2007 at 10:18 am

    Love you Rain!

I agree with JYP… never thought i say that.

  5. 5 BKJSuh December 12, 2007 at 10:30 am

    Kudos for JYP supporting Rain.

    Translation: Rain is overrated.

    P.S I like Rain.

  6. 6 0rchid December 12, 2007 at 10:35 am

Rain looks soooo hot in that pic! :-)

  7. 7 0rchid December 12, 2007 at 11:01 am

That photo is not a recent pic of Rain & JYP. It was taken during the press conference of the BMW Meets Truth MV.

JYP made a cameo appearance in the music video.

Here’s the YouTube link to the press conference.

You can oogle more at Rain’s VERY LOW CUT black shirt. ;-)

  8. 8 EKCC December 12, 2007 at 11:03 am

I agree.. We should lower our expectation for Rain..
But that thing is the words from JYP guy does not seem to be truthful or care for Rain.. he’s just using Rain for his own publicity.. that’s all..

Recently JYP has been promotiong himself by using Rain’s fame and popularity.. every talk show and every variety show JYP appears, he’s talking about Rain.. but.. as you can see.. not in a good way.. and also he’s dame busy bragging about himself like how successful he is in US.
But did he succeed in US??? well.. I don’t think so…

I know he was the producer of Rain before.. not any more..
he doesn’t need to tell everybody about Rain for JYP’s own sake..

  9. 9 rocketfuel December 12, 2007 at 11:07 am

Rain should stick to korea, his window to America is closed.

  10. 10 XiaoXi December 12, 2007 at 11:14 am

I agree with EKCC: Rain has eclipsed JYP and it seems to bug the creepy one. Not sure if it is just the excerpts I end up seeing, but it sure seems like every interview with JYP includes something about how Rain is not as expert as JYP in business or talent or whatever. Sounds like sour grapes to me. I’m sure Rain’s breakaway has a lot to do with JYP trying to break back into performing.

    In any case, we’ll see…

  11. 11 EKCC December 12, 2007 at 11:24 am

    poor JYP..

JYP looks so desperate to promote himself these days.. Actually JYPE has only one group, Wonder Grils which can make real money right now.. J.Lim? she’s not popular in Korea.. Min?? she’s not even debutted..

think about the money that Rain had brought to JYP..
yeah.. they could even build JYP USA with that tremendous money.. comparing to Rain’s days under JYPE.. the cash Wonder Grils can make right now is like a child’s pocket money.. yeah.. JYP is desperate…

he had never mentioned about Rain’s LA fiasco..
when Rain was in trouble, JYP had a party with ppl and was busy with hiding himself from problems..
and now??? why is he talking about RAIN??

    JYP, stop talking about Rain..
it’s none of your business.. you just care for your own business… don’t bring Rain’s name again..

  12. 12 nx512 December 12, 2007 at 11:25 am

i agree with rocketfuel. i highly doubt rain will make it big in the states despite all the hype..

nevertheless, the picture is very cute :)

  13. 13 Silently December 12, 2007 at 11:27 am

So he’s the reason behind Rain making poor career choices but
I do agree with him on one thing .. the lower the expectations.. the lower the dissappointment.

  14. 14 Hey? December 12, 2007 at 11:37 am

Even if he may not make it so big in America. Let’s give him the credit that he made it “this far” and sparked a little attention from them (like Colbert & Wachowskis). I mean, how many Korean/Asian actor&singer can say the same???

  15. 15 PopSeoul Lover! December 12, 2007 at 11:43 am

    haha love the article!

  16. 16 Musicisourhigh December 12, 2007 at 11:58 am

JYP makes a lot of sense. Rain has made some progress in his career but I think if the bar is set too high he will have no option but to fail.

Also I think it helps to be realistic about the market you are trying to break into

  17. 17 Jackie December 12, 2007 at 12:02 pm

I also agree with JYP - expect the worst and anything better will be a success!

  18. 18 leelee December 12, 2007 at 12:19 pm

Haha that’s nice of him, I guess?
And wow. That Pinky & The Brain reference is still the greatest. ;p

  19. 19 aquarious December 12, 2007 at 12:21 pm

“Talking about Rain will bring media attention.”

JYP knows it very well and knows how to use it to promote himself or… maybe friendly suggestion.
He’s pretty clever making this statement. good suggestion though. whatever his intention is…^^

  20. 20 stefffanie GarganTOS December 12, 2007 at 12:22 pm

    OMG ! peopLe!?!

Rain has come a long way
and lets face it how manY KOREAN peopLE has been FAMOUS
    AS RAIN?????!!!!!

not even JYP got the attention OF TIME MAGAZINE!
    even if he fails
he already paved the way for others who dreams to achieve
whatever he had done and more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ditractoRS GET A LIFE!!!
suppOrters lets be happy and just wish rain the best

    ~(^_^)~

  21. 21 aquarious December 12, 2007 at 12:37 pm

    I don’t blame him…
I mean if Rain is still with him, he doesn’t have to work or promote himself like now.
Rain will bring the big sum for the company.

I don’t think fans have high expectation on Rain.
When Rain does well, they’ll be happy for him and brag about it. well, it’s natural.
If he fails or makes mistakes, they’ll support him all they can. I mean for true fans…
They’ll criticise him if there’s somethings that need to be pointed out. but that doesn’t mean they’re disappointed in him.

I think only media has too much expectation on him.
And they can be cruel to put him down once he makes mistake.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with goal setting.
It just provide the path how to reach it.

“Rain himself said several times… he’s not afraid to fail but he wants to try.” And he’s trying through hurdle. He knows the limitation.
If US doesn’t give him no chance at all, then, he’ll have alternative. But when there’re offers and hope, who can resist but try and see what could happen?

JYP is somehow right about taking things slowly but I don’t see Rain’s rushing either.

  22. 22 May December 12, 2007 at 12:41 pm

“But did he succeed in US??? well.. I don’t think so…”

well, if you consider 3 times on the billboard chart is a failure then…I dunno.

  23. 23 Eve December 12, 2007 at 12:49 pm

I understand how things can go wrong when your hopes are high ~ you fall much more. I think it’s great that JYP is helping out Rain ~ I really hope that they both do great =]

  24. 24 wtf December 12, 2007 at 1:35 pm

jyp is the person who higher expectations for rain.
think about how he has used media to spread misbelief about rain’s success in u.s.

  25. 25 whatever~ December 12, 2007 at 1:37 pm

who made Rain successful?, JYP did, Rain was/is not ready to go on his own, the worst mistake he did was to leave JYP and just now that all things were like going smooth for him to make it (or try to) in America, i know he wanted to be a producer and all but right now was not the time to. I don’t think JYP is trying to take the spotlight from Bi, after all he created Rain, and Bi wouldn’t have the status or popularity he has if it wasn’t because of JYP’s decisions, yes sure Rain is talented but obviously the good promotion does wonders (I mean how many talented artists out there are underrated/or don’t make it because of their companies bad decisions or poor promotion? lots and lots!). So anyway I hope things go well for Rain in the future, hopefully he will get better.

  26. 26 aquarious December 12, 2007 at 1:39 pm

    I agree with you.
When I think again, yes… JYP is the one who rush Rain into US market.
He is the one who said Rain is conservative… not like him who is risk taker.

  27. 27 BeSerious December 12, 2007 at 1:57 pm

Some of you idiots need to lay off the subbed variety shows for your information. Your opinion is, well, trash.

JYP made Rain. He produced his songs, dance moves, JYP is God to Rain.

JYP’s song from his latest album is topping the charts.

Rain is not going to succeed in the States and JYP knows it. He’s just laying down the cushion for when Rain falls.

  28. 28 confused December 12, 2007 at 2:02 pm

I think Rain will (barely) scratch the surface here in the U.S. for someone who’s barely breaking in. JYP has a point that he should lower his expectations. It’s only realistic that you can get so far when you’re barely starting…

especially when showbiz in the U.S. is insanely dog eat dog.

  29. 29 EKCC December 12, 2007 at 2:05 pm

@WTF and aquarious.. I agree with you..
JYP is the one who rushed Rain into US market..
Yeah.. right!! JYP himself pushed Rain..
but Rain was consevative and wanted to delay his debut in us.. cause he thought that he was not ready.. lol

    think about it..
The only big mistake that Rain had was LA concert cancellation, which was happened when Rain was still under JYP.. and JYP was a big part of this mistake..
But JYP stayed away from the problems..
he avoided the media.. so every bashing towards only Rain..

well.. i felt that he minipulated the public that Rain is not gonna succeed because Rain left him..
but.. strangely, he’s bragging about his other trainee now who have never debuted.. and spread to the ppl that his trainee gonna be the first asian artist who will be big in the US.. like he did to Rain before.. same old story.. lol

i think JYP is not Brain.. just a coward snob…

  30. 30 uhuh December 12, 2007 at 3:20 pm

    yes the man’s so RIGHT!
    he’s a smartie

  31. 31 Lana December 12, 2007 at 3:35 pm

Star Management was the one behind ‘Rain takes over the US’ bull. He’d left JYP by then. He should’ve stayed with JYP. All JYP is saying to his boyfriend in a nice way is, ‘I TOLD YA SO!” Hey, it’s a lover’s spat. LOL.

Oh and there are many Billboard charts. Only one matters, though. So no, making A billboard chart is not a big deal. It really isn’t a big deal when no one knows who you are or cares.

  32. 32 hellaakon December 12, 2007 at 4:39 pm

  35. 35 tony December 12, 2007 at 6:59 pm

i 1000% agree with aquarious . i remembered that rain said
he’ll enter the us market step by step . jyp just sold the
right of his concert to usa , not him . nomatter he success
in usa or not , we ( true fans) will still support him .

  36. 36 Bihae December 12, 2007 at 10:40 pm

  37. 37 Blahblahbon December 13, 2007 at 12:45 am

Korean artists should just stick to promoting themselves in Asia. Americans don’t even like this kind of music, or these kind of people, there are a few who do, but majority like songs about sex and drugs, and…koreans don’t usually sing about that stuff.
Rain really is a friggin idiot, anyone who defends him is clearly blinded by his “beauty”, he’s just a cocky fag who wants to be the best and get all the money, which will never happen.
Rain, you should go serve your country before you think about conquering others.

i can’t believe that loser was made by JYP.
    What a pathetic man.

  38. 38 May December 13, 2007 at 1:02 am

yes, that loser is making 26 million dollars a year.

  39. 39 Raye December 13, 2007 at 1:48 am

I don’t think Rain is going to fail and even if he do it won’t be the end of the world for him he is already rolling in money without JYP. Yes JYP created him but ppl needs to be serious Rain learnt some things form him. Rain is going to be fine. He can make it on his own. JYP needs to be wondering about Min and G soul and leave Rain name alone.

  40. 40 psh~ December 13, 2007 at 2:27 am

Park Jin Young may be the brains and Bi is the pinky but PJY will never be as hot as Bi even if he goes under the knife. haha to that.

  41. 41 Ana December 13, 2007 at 2:35 am

Jyp is right, taking it one step at a time is the right thing to do, and that’s what he’s doing right now. Accepting a small role in Speed Racer. I’m more worried about Se7en’s US debut.

  42. 42 marmar December 13, 2007 at 2:45 am

LOL I can’t help but sing the Pinky .n. the Brain song…”There Pinky .n. the Brain, brain brain brain brain”…lol

no, i consider a bunch of cancelled concerts a failure. and a huge one at that.

  44. 44 aquarious December 13, 2007 at 3:03 am

I don’t get why people think Rain will fail without JYP.
Do you think US market is all that matter to him and his fans.
    NO…
He’s just giving it a try. If he doesn’t make it, well, so what… it’s not like he has no where to have his career but US. Fans will still be there to pat his back.

Apart from WT mistake, I don’t see Rain’s done something wrong.mind you… it’s not fair to blame on only Rain for that mistake.
He’s still big. He’s still doing what he loves to do.He’s still money making machine…
His bank balance is still up and up. His name is still drawing people attention. If that means failure or loser, I don’t know what to say… LOL

BTW… fans are not blinded. just love him and support their idol. simple as that. What’s wrong with that?

  45. 45 aquarious December 13, 2007 at 3:04 am

Yes… JYP made Rain in order to make big buck. simple.
But I do respect JYP for bringing Rain.
JYP is talented guy for sure.I’m not saying his statement is negative… It’s a nice one. useful advice for Rain and people around him.
All I’m saying is who starts the idea of conquering US…

He is so right that Rain is newbie businessman and actor.
He suggested fans shouldn’t expect too much from Rain.
I don’t think fans do. just excited for him whatever he does.

Well…he might be defending Rain not to get bash if thing doesn’t happen. nice. very reasonable.

But why did he not say a word to defend Rain during concerts fiasco???
    Why now???

  48. 48 Cutie December 13, 2007 at 3:17 am

When it comes to their relationship, JYP is like Rain’s older brother… @.@

Plus, when you look at it, Rain is only 25. So one, he is still young (especially compared to experienced JYP). No doubt he will make mistakes. (So, you cant bring up mistakes in the past, because just think of how much more younger he was at the time.)
But as being a top entertainer, you learn from these mistakes and your experience gains. So you guys cant complain to him about every little detail or mistake he does. That why, again, you learn from them- and hopefully Rain will use this experience to make better decisions in the future. He’s not perfect.

so what if jyp wants to associate himself with drizzle? he was his mentor and from what i understand, they’re not on bad terms, so why can’t he give drizzle advice?

even if he is trying to make a buck off of a falling star, it’s not like he’s the only one out there doing it.

  53. 53 May December 13, 2007 at 6:55 am

failure or not, he’s making hella a lot of money. even more than JYP if I may say so.

  54. 54 whatever~ December 13, 2007 at 6:57 am

I kind of agree with jak, there is really no point in acussing JYP of this or that, i know some of you are his fans and loyal to him but that doesn’t mean you have to accuse JYP to support the artist, he created Rain and Rain decided to leave on his own, now the mistakes he makes are his responsibility.

  55. 55 Musicisourhigh December 13, 2007 at 7:31 am

I don’t think Rain failing will have anything to do with JYP but I would be lying if I said it isn’t a possibility.

Also the thing is cracking a new market is like a crapshoot. Rain could do everything right and still not make it huge in the US. That is just reality. A lot of it has to do with luck and economics.

There are a lot of talented people putting out stellar albums that don’t even touch the charts

  56. 56 vicky December 13, 2007 at 7:44 am

JYP himself pushed Rain towards the US market and inflated ppl’s expectations.

It’s like a set-up. Brain won’t Pinky leave without having him stumbling for a bit.

I’d have liked to see Rain stay with JYP for another 2-3 years and see how his promised US career develops.

  57. 57 Omo December 13, 2007 at 7:51 am

YUM. Rain should always always unbuttoned his shirts or go without them. Delish!
I better order my Speed Racer Taejo action figure, STAT.

  58. 58 Vision December 13, 2007 at 8:30 am

I know a bunch who are even dumber than Rain. Some of his (blind) fans. They really think he is still famous and on top of everyone else. Some have accused JYP of wanting attention to sell his album cos the name Rain sells everywhere. And they defend Rain by saying that he has changed (since 6 months ago). Wow - like they know Ji Hoon personally and they are experts in the music field. Hahahaha.

Oh please! I have so many Japan friends (who are fans!) and they tell me he’s virtually unknown in Japan.

These dumb asses need more coffee than Rain.

  59. 59 noodles December 13, 2007 at 9:03 am

  61. 61 ladida December 13, 2007 at 1:00 pm

JYP was the man behind Rain’s success. JYP took a chance w/him when nobody else in the industry would simply cuz he wasn’t good looking enough. Under JYP’s management, he continued his private music studies w/other music major influences (initially, J.Lim worked w/Rain to improve his vocal skills). JYP made good business sense when he encouraged Rain to act. JYP wrote & produced hit songs which won Rain a variety of accolades in ‘04. With all due respect, JYP opened up a window of opportunities for Rain; BUT in all fairness, let’s give Rain the credit he deserves too. Rain worked hard to achieve success. JYP did not come along & handed him a golden spoon w/a lot of gravy in it. If JYP was such a miraculous producer, then why aren’t the rest of Rain’s former colleagues (J.lim, god, byul, etc) equally well known & loved across Asia? Rain is indeed a hard worker; he’s the epitome of self-will, discipline, dedication & commitment to purpose. This kid possesses a boyish charm, good looks & endless energy. He has an undeniable charisma (a trait that’s arguably 50% innate). Whenever he steps onto the stage, he does his best job of playing to the crowd, displaying excellent stage presence, aura & showmanship. But we all know that hard work & charms don’t always equate to guarantee success. If that was true, then the world would be filthy rich. Have a go at being a cynic if your heart’s desire, but Rain has real talent. Rain is who/what he is today due to his all-around talent (singing, dancing, acting). Yes, I believe JYP made Rain AND vice versa. Without Rain, JYP can’t be the music mogul millionaires that he is today. I like to believe that JYP’s truly grateful to him for Rain was his best prodigy. His advice to Rain is really a nice gesture. Business successes do not magically appeared overnight (i’m certain it wasn’t easy for JYP in the beginning); there is bound to be some trial & error. So give Rain time to prove himself. As for his career advances in the US — his future may be uncertain, but as long as he never gives up hopes & dreams (most of u would like to see him leave with his tail between his legs) he has a 50-50 shot of making it, whereas if he stop striving for his dreams/goals now his chance is a definite zero. And so what if he eventually fails to make any real impact in the US? His fans will still be proud of his endless efforts & accomplishments.

“All JYP is saying to his boyfriend in a nice way is, ‘I TOLD YA SO!” Hey, it’s a lover’s spat”

I love all these boyfriend/girlfriend (or boyfriend/boyfriend, depending on how u perceive it) references !

  63. 63 fraulein December 13, 2007 at 2:31 pm

I recall a TRL episode back Jan/Feb 2005 where JYP and Rain appeared on. JYP said something about creating a wholesome artiste who is real & ppl can connect to. I think he said something along the lines of, if you are fake, ppl will know it. You can’t fool all of the ppl all of the time. If you are fake, it’ll (time) show. What you see is what you get, ie the real Rain.

I miss those days when he tried to keep it real, unlike the BS he spouts these days, whether or not he’s getting the cushion ready for Rain to fall on when he flops.

Ladida posted the best comment (Dec 13 @ 1:00pm)I have read in a long long time. I think even rain detractors will agree with some of what he/she said

    Well said, Ladida !! ; )

I agree the guy gives his best in playing to the crowd. When he was here in Singapore, he threw a diva’ish fit to the media, almost refused to smile to for the cameras (his manager blamed the broken arm he sustained a week ago in HK for the bad mood) and generally acted like a spoilt brat.

But when evening came, he morph’ed into the consummate /charismatic performer we have all come to know and played to the crowd, cooing “my babies” and all ; prompting the media to say ” the boy surely knows which side his bread is buttered on “

ladida you make a valid point and I whole heartly agree with you. I don’t see what the problem is with Rain trying to make it in the US. You’ll never know if you don’t try. And besides he is mostly a positive thinker, that being said good things will come his way if he keeps it up. :)

People say they’re still in good terms, so I guess that’s advice is taken in a good way.

Maybe the reason some people are having doubts about his intention is that during the time when Rain didn’t renew his contract, JYP was saying almost negative things about Rain. Then, when he resumed his work in Korea, he’s saying this and that about Rain. You really have to admit it, anything about Rain gets attention in Korea.

Hmm, the more i think abt it, the more it looks like a lovers’ spat.

Bi is busy trying to establish himself in the states and JYP who has been based there for the past few yrs comes back to korea to produce Wonder Girls and launch that “dirty dirty south ” collaboration for J Lim

It appears to me he doesnt want to be on the same continent as his ex girlfriend (or boyfriend) !

    Ha ha

    Sasha… 0_0 wowwww…. that’s cool.

    About the topic,

I wonder if Rain is still under JYPE, would he suggest the same thing to take things slowly (or) make Rain work his butt off???
I’m sure he’ll make sure not to put pressure on Rain and totally have low expectation…

    irony…..

Totally agree with ladida and aquarious. Well said.

Hmm… that’s interesting advice. Well why do we have to “lower our expectations” for him, in order for us not to be disappointed in him if he screws up? I expect him to do well, ‘cause he works his arse off. I also expect him to mess up sometimes, cause he’s human.

Not only lowered my expectations, but also changed my expectations for the “New Rain” after watching this!! Rain wearing a shirt with big ” naked boobs”.

  77. 77 aquarious December 18, 2007 at 12:50 pm

That’s strange. How come Popseoul did not bash Rain for that picture???
Something is seriously wrong with Popseoul (or) maybe Popseoul can’t catch up with Rain anymore…

    LOL…

  78. 78 narae January 11, 2008 at 7:47 pm

i figure he should maintain his high expectations, just not tell anyone about them, so we won’t know what to expect
after all, if you shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you still land in the stars (when physics doesn’t get in your way)

  79. 79 Jung HyeHoon August 26, 2008 at 11:43 pm

    it’s like a deja vu
isn’t this what full house predicted for Rain
only the details are different lol
