Rain will not sing for the 2008 Olympics

Rain_20080108_popseoul

Unexpectedly, Rain turned down the golden opportunity to sing for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He reasoned that it makes more sense for a Chinese singer to be the voice of the 2008 Olympics, but he is planning another event for the Olympics. Glad to see the shrimp eyed star starting off the year on the right foot. Let’s hope that it lasts.

Unfortunately, Rain’s announcement will end the cyber war among the Chinese and Korean netizens who are currently getting carried away at their keyboards to express their conflicting opinions. No more entertainment for those indifferent observers.

i have like rain since watching the serial full house. i think the fact that he’s being called to sing in the beijing olypics prove that he’s a popular singer. though he turned down the offer am sure there’ll be lotsa opportunities ahead for a guy like him.

  2. 2 BKJSuh January 9, 2008 at 5:50 am

Nice choice. Either way, Rain didn’t loose anything from this.

  3. 3 Star January 9, 2008 at 6:34 am

Hm..I dont think this was a good choice..He wants to be a world star!…this is his chance! I think he is already humble..why not let the world know?? It was probably a hard choice for him..

Ha…I told you so. *rolls eyes*

‘Sangdoo, Let’s go to school’ is now on Youtube!! What a brilliant drama and impressive acting from Rain.

Much props to Rain… him stepping down for a Chinese artist shows alot of class on his part. Good stuff.

Korean news said that a korean singer, Rain, was being offered a chance to sing at the Olympics, but this news hasn’t been reported by any Chinese news corporates? Yeah right. Korean news reporters can be very creative and exaggerating in their news…Wanted or not, Rain is not qualified for such a dignified opportunity.

  8. 8 not true January 9, 2008 at 2:27 pm

Netizens can be sooo gullible and illusional.

  9. 9 Dovey January 9, 2008 at 2:34 pm

If he did decide to go through with it, I wonder what the ones against him singing would have done…

  10. 10 choo January 9, 2008 at 9:04 pm

What’s wrong with singing with a non-Chinese singing in the Olympics? Well, if that singer is going to sing the main song or theme song or whatever. Of course, it has to be Chinese. If he is just going to perform, that’s ok. But as the report said, he neither backed out or accepted. Another blind hater who takes everything at once.

  11. 11 suju.dbsk January 10, 2008 at 12:32 am

sigh popseoul you are such a hypercrite. you say compel readers to believe plastic surgery is bad and then you make the comment ’shrimp eyed’. dont you think because of these unsuitable comments celebrities go under the knife?

but yay ^^ rain is thoughtful to give up his chance to perform

  12. 12 gangnam gal January 10, 2008 at 1:28 am

Well, I guess he backed down fearing the backlash from the chinese. He’s no stranger to controversy

Korea will not host another olympics again that’s pretty sure. He was six when the games were held in seoul .

  13. 13 gangnam gal January 10, 2008 at 1:42 am

Haha, any chinese singer but that Ming (rain copycat) guy, i hope

Much as I dislike it, i have to agree with dumpling. He’s not confident (at least he knows his limits)of rising to the occasion.

That said, he can always memorise the lyrics like what he has always done.

He pretty much butchered the Pantech ” Shou Ji” song in chinese, if anyone recalls. I cringe whenever i hear it. But he did a good job with James Ingram’s Just Once at the MSG
I was blown away by that performance.

  14. 14 blinkable January 10, 2008 at 4:18 am

I am glad he didnt *LOL* IMO, it should be someone from China itself, I mean being the host and all ^^

  15. 15 aquarious January 10, 2008 at 11:07 am

Even if you guys don’t wanna give him credit, at least give him some slack… He’s just a human being. you know.

  16. 16 tomorrowq January 10, 2008 at 3:17 pm

I think he made a right chice there.

  17. 17 soju January 11, 2008 at 6:54 am

wow aquarious. and all this time i thought you clouds thought of him as GOD.

  18. 18 aquarious January 11, 2008 at 7:36 am

soju… well, clouds never said Rain is like God.

That’s opinion of some people about clouds. I’m sure you know what I mean.^^

  19. 19 rocketfuel January 11, 2008 at 7:44 am

Rain singing at the Olympics would have been a nice political jab at Mainland China caused by their own government…I would have preferred him singing it.

  20. 20 soju January 11, 2008 at 8:27 am

aquarious … it’s not just my opinion. you clouds think that drizzle can do no wrong. he can disrespect you all he wants and you keep going back for more. if that’s not treating someone like GOD, then i don’t know what is.

  21. 21 aquarious January 11, 2008 at 10:52 am

It doesn’t apply to all clouds. What’s wrong with clouds supporting him anyway?
It’s not like they’re offending or attacking you… right?

  22. 22 aquarious January 11, 2008 at 10:54 am

And I said “opinion of some people”
    I didn’t say… it’s “only your opinion”.
    Yeah…that’s what I wrote.

  23. 23 tangy January 11, 2008 at 11:15 am

woooah good move bi *thumbs up*

  24. 24 Kitsune January 11, 2008 at 2:02 pm

    it´s Ok
he knows what to do ^^

  25. 25 tony January 11, 2008 at 3:26 pm

    @soju
rain never disrepected clouds .the reason you
don’t understand why we still support him because you never try to understand people situtation or not try to understand the whole
issue . the only thing you have is hate .

  26. 26 tony January 11, 2008 at 3:33 pm

    @soju
ps – the “HATE” also covered your heart and eyes .

  27. 27 soju January 12, 2008 at 4:29 am

    tony and aquarious.

you think i don’t know clouds? i used to visit rain-usa everyday until i got sick of all the pro-drizzle posts. if someone posted anything even remotely negative about your god, it was removed faster than drizzle could pull up his shirt and expose himself.

and, yes, i used to be one of you. so i know what i’m talking about when i say he disrespects his fans. i have several first-hand accounts of how he goes out of his way to avoid his fans when he’s out and about, and how he has NEVER apologized for the concert cancellations in english. yes, that’s a sticking point with me. he apologized to his korean fans, but doesn’t have the decency to apologize to those of us who lost money to go and see his concert. and, btw, i was there at the wilshire grand hotel when he popped in for a few minutes, uttered something in the way of an apology (not in english), and then made his escape.

so, tony, i’m not the one who doesn’t try to understand the whole situation. you clouds are the ones who look the other way and don’t even try to understand why he does what he does. everything’s at face value for you and that just makes you naive.

if you want to call it hate, then call it hate. to me, it’s more a case of disappointment after disappointment when it comes to drizzle. why would i want to support him?

  28. 28 tony January 12, 2008 at 5:31 am

    @soju
i knew you were cloud before that’s why i feel
shame on you . you don’t have to support him
anymore but you don’t have to make so harsh
comments and laugh at him . once again , don’t
be too cruel to the one you love before !
if you really try to understand the whole issue of the cancellation of concert then you won’t that angry . if you try to understand his
situtation then you won’t keep saying why he’s
not apology in english . he apology in korean , it doesn’t mean only for his korean fans because
koerean is his first language . do we have to think we all angry because he sang all the songs in korean and he sang only for his koreans fans ? he said so many times in different interview after la concert ” he felt
so sad and hurt because he really care about his fans . thank you so much for the fans still
support him all over the world .”
you don’t have find so many reasons to hate him
the only reason to hate is money .

  29. 29 soju January 12, 2008 at 6:25 am

    tony
‘if you try to understand his
situtation then you won’t keep saying why he’s
    not apology in english .’

so why don’t you school me on his situation? i didn’t realize that an apology is dependent on someone’s situation. do you need everything in your life to be at 100% to say ‘i’m sorry’? wow ….

    but on everything else ….

yes, you are right, tony. i should really just forgive him because he’s an innocent victim of all these crazy people who are out to get him, huh? i feel so ashamed of myself for doubting him. i forgive him for brushing off his fans on the street. and i forgive him for cancelling the honolulu concert a few days before the event. and i also forgive him for cancelling the la concert just 90 minutes prior to showtime. he was in la for a solid two weeks before the concert date and didn’t realize that his production crew couldn’t possibly set up his stage within the short time allotted to them. and they tried to blame everyone else for that snafu when the stage wasn’t up to code. yes, i forgive him.

maybe in la-la land, but not in reality.

  30. 30 tony January 12, 2008 at 10:52 am

    @ soju
rain already apology in the fan meeting . he said he felt so sorry to all his fans .
if you think this disrepected you because he spoke his home language to apology then that’s
why you always think he disrepected his fans .
what’s the meaning of ” he made escape ”
you’re 1 of audience in the concert and you felt
so sad , angry and disappointed that night. how did rain feel ? he had the worst feeling thousand times than us . you wanted him singing and laughting that night or you wanted him having fun with you the whole night during the fan meeting . the purpose of him coming to the fan meeting is apology to all his fans from all countries ( incude usa ) . he’s human being
and he also has right to expose his emotion .
jyp sold all the right of us concert to revolution after he knew rain is not under his
co. anymore . rain was not the one who organize
the whole issue , he just a product sold by the
original owner . jyp not even gave him a hand when things happened . the local promoter promised to hire a very professional team and must have enough time to set up the stage before
the concert . first their measurement was wrong
from cm to inch . second they should know the
safety regualtion in LA because they are professionl team for setting up stage in la . do you rain should go to fire dept. by himself and check the regulations ?
anyway rain also paid for that , at least he lost a fan like you .

  31. 31 tony January 12, 2008 at 10:55 am

    @ soju
ps – i never asked you forgive anybody .

  32. 32 soju January 13, 2008 at 6:35 am

i really don’t care to hear your rain-usa-planted rant about the events on that night of the cancelled la concert. i’ve heard it all before. numerous times. and everytime, it’s the same blah blah blah. drizzle is sooooo sad. drizzle cried because he couldn’t perform. none of that was drizzle’s fault ….

maybe one day you will wake up from your dream and realize what a poser he is. it’ll come one day. trust me.

  33. 33 tony January 15, 2008 at 5:51 am

now i understand why you refused to hear or find
the fact of the whole issue because you have
nowhere to express you anger and he is the only one target to release your anger .
if you will wake up one day then you’ll feel
sorry about yourself , trust me .

Hows everyone ?its year 2008.A year that something good , going to happened to everyone.
Let us all forget those ugliest things happened from last year 2007.Let’s make it a better year and fruitful year for everyone, this year 2008.
We can express our sympathy, and anger or hatred in a nice way but lets evade to fight, for those nonsense issues.
Tell you the truth,I always love Rain unconditionally, whatever negative write ups about him,his always be my Rain.Thats how I admired him.
Yeah!that’s it,that was a right decision for him not to sing for Olympics. It should be chinese singer belongs to their own land…I know there’s more good chances for Rain’s career to come, sooner or later.Much better for him Rain,to be very careful in takng the oportunities,so that less mistakes in his career..

  35. 35 Alex March 1, 2008 at 10:53 am

I think Rain did a smart thing. I would have gone crazy if Rain had sung, like absolutely bonkers but he let china have their time. He did more for them then you guys realize. With China’s mounds of bad press for furs, food, territory and abortion it’s a BIG deal that China got the chance for the Olympics. For an original chinese singer to sing at the Olympics rather than a Korean (no matter how awesome he is)fills people with a sense of pride that this person, our very own is being seen by the world. It’s the same feeling I got with Luciano Pavoratti sang at the winter olympics.

P.S. I am disgusted at the fact that some of you people are trying to pick fights about the Olypmics. Have some tact. For goodness sake, have some honor.
