Rain is a shadow of his former self in braids and a headband for the newest Samsung Anycall’s mobile phone ad campaign befittingly called “Anydream” (previous ad campaigns were “Anystar,” & “Anyband.”). “Anydream” is the official song for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics by the electronics giant and official sponsor, Samsung. The music video features our man in various hairstyles training his crew of dancers for battle against the B-boys in a dance competition.
In the music video/commercial-extravaganza, Rain and his dance crew get served in a dance-off complete with crumping, popping, shirt-ripping, and symmetrical v-shaped dance formations. To make matters worse, Rain’s crew members ditch him afterwards.
Our ever-resourceful Rain sets out to compete in the Any Dream dance contest and resolves to train a sorry bunch of misfits into becoming dancers extraordinaries (with the help of the latest Samsung technology, of course).
Not only is this music video/commercial-extravaganza a promotional vehicle for gangsta-ninja attire, kooky hair, and Samsung phones, it is also a thinly disguised parable of how Rain began JTune Entertainment with the intention to audition hopefuls to superstardom and conquer the US.

While I do admit that Rain hasn’t lost his touch in terms of dancing, his clothing/hair style isn’t hot at all. Sorry Rain just doesn’t do it for me. The Anydream Video is a short version of Step Up2. No originality at all. The Anycall commercial with Hyori and Eric was great and original. This Anydream commercial makes Rain look like Hyori on Steriods. Tired of seeing Rain do the same dance moves over and over again. The only thing new he’s comming out with is his hair styles, which are unflattering. Well, you can’t do long hair forever. Anyhow, this shrimp eye boy-man is getting on my nerves. I’m out. Sorry to all the Rain-Fanatics out there, but grow up. You can hate me all you want. I’m lovin it.

I liked it and I am no big Rain fan. Of course I have seen all of 10 asian CF’s in my life but this was pretty good stuff. The gangasta-ninja attire was hilarious. The ridiculous use of cell phones was gag inducing. Those flaws aside the dancing was hot and so was Rain (except for the Farrah look–What was he thinking?!).

And I thought my Mandarin’s slipping, lol, it sounds like a hybrid of Korean and Mandarin. I caught some words here and there, but the rest got lost in the over synthesized noise called music. He also repeated the same chorus/phrase for about twenty times. Good points about this… that has got to be the flashiest cellphone commercial I’ve ever seen, and Rain’s forcing his way into the general public in China. You go Rain, do whatever it takes to get famous, get those corn rows, wear a normal t-shirt in the worse way possible, and someone get this man more bling.

I’m not a fan, but I do see the appeal of Rain. Used to see.
I always was wowed by his dancing, and it’s when I can understand why he has his followings. dandelion, you should watched his older MVs. You may not be turned a fangirl, it didnt convert me either, but you cant deny he can dance very well, and with a nice body, it’s easy to see why he’s ‘hot’ to many. His songs used to be very tight and he sang them well.
However, I think he does follow his idol MJ’s footstep way too closely. He has a sense of grandeur that is getting into his head, and he’s using the same old tricks, thinking that is enough to mesmerize in spite of everything, just like MJ.
Artists stay superstars because they always transform themselves, improve themselves. Staying at the same spot, no matter how good it was, gets very tiring and mundane. And that’s my impression watching his new MV. Even as a nonfan, I’m saddened by it.
And please Rain, STOP doing foreign language. It’s not your thing and it’s just shedding a very bad light on you when you cant say couple lines of engrish or chinrese after practice. Again the sad part is, I bet you think you sound superb. *sigh*

My drizzle boy looks fine, contrary to what some say.
The CF obviously allows him to play to his strength and was probably written withhim in mind. Dancing is after all what he does best. I bet he was paid an obscene amount in endorsement fees but that’s another story
The song - sounds good, the beat is tight
His Mandarin diction - better than Shou Ji which he did a few years ago but there’s room for improvement (if he’s keen that is) He warbled thru the lines but I could make out what he said/sang when I listened hard enough.
He’ll look so much hotter if his hair was shorter. I agree the corn rows look suits his hip hop dance instructor role but it’s too much for me. Bring back the suave Bi by giving him a haircut. He can don a wig or hair extensions for the ninja movie.
I think this CF is passable if I still prefer the one Hyori did with Eric and KSW (the name eludes me now)

This wasn’t that bad, but i still think that Anycall should have used the original singers : Tablo, Junsu, BoA, & Jin Bora. I liked their songs, and thought they were extremely catchy. I would’ve much liked to see the 4 of them represent Anycall at the Beijing olympics. OH WELL, let’s see how rain’s new “rough” look turns out.

i really don’t get this ‘korean representation’ of CHINESE olympics thing. If samsung wants to market its products, why do it under the name of olympics? China already has a heap load of promotional ads for olympics with CHINESE celebrities, take Liu Xiang as an example, hez actually an ATHLETE. And all that ‘Any—’ stuff needs to go. Its Chinese olympics, not korean. If samsung wants to make a fortune in china, NOW is not the time. People who don’t know rain will start believing that hez chinese, despite his ‘chin-rean’. Its really misleading. Samsung, go find your spotlight somewhere else.
