hmm from my opinion DBSG is on a whole different level. SS501 can never compare to them but they can second best.. lah..
There’s nothing wrong with SS501 being their rivals even if they are friends. Like the thing about friendly rivalry.. compete against each other so both groups will improve which is a plus for us fangirls =).
Anyways… well SS501 is wise to take the opportunity to try to get more fans in korea with their single Deja Vu while TVXQ is focusing on Japan. From TVXQ’s lack of activities in korea, some fans might turn to SS501 and start to like them.
There will always be rivalry in the entertainment business. Its just that no one ever says it out loud! Props to DSP manager if he is the one who declared the competition.

To those who are dissing SS501, STOP. There is a reason why people sometimes stereotype dongbang fans as immature and it’s showing itself very clearly here. I think the success of DBSK is due to the fact that the people that manage them are very smart and plan out their agendas very thoroughly. They get a lot of exposure for their talent and they concentrate and dedicate themselves to their music. I rarely hear any scandals or any nonsense when it comes to them. They are always working hard at producing new music and so far, each album they have created has out done the last and they are being recognized for it. SS501 is a good group of guys. They are good looking and they can sing and dance as well, however, I think they lack the type of management and backup that Dbsk has and therefore have not picked up the fame. I think a lot of artists have the ability to achieve success…it just depends on their creativity, opportunities and what the public favors at the moment. I think for anyone to be successful, they have to constantly be reinventing themselves. So far, Dbsk is the only group I have seen do that and if they continue to come out with new and refreshing stuff; their fans will not let them down.

now now. It seems someone is a bit jealous that DBSK DOES have a large, diverse (well deserved) fanbase. And to start throwing in bands of another genre to add weight to your point is lame. If people are listening to DBSK, and if they like the genre of hip hop (using your example), then why wouldn’t they check out other talented korean artists, esp like drunken tiger, epik high, double k, leessang, mc sniper, etc?
The only main difference between groups like Drunken Tiger & DBSK is the amount of PR poured into them. DBSK has their popularity because they have smart people marketing them, non-stop. And how hard is it to market a good package? Not that hard if they have talent; all you have to do is extend their visiblity – and let the audience decide if they want to embrace their work. Talent isn’t about competition, its about doing your OWN thing, regardless of what OTHER people are doing. DBSK does that. So, (for that matter) does Tiger JK.
Good music is good music – it transcends languages and ethnic groups; its one of the universal languages. Well, all the arts (music, cooking, dance, visual arts, writing – a good story is a good story – ) are one set of the universal languages (math would be another ~) Don’t you have any appreciation for the arts? Can’t you see talent, no matter the package?!

Luckily, we have dvds, magazines, jpegs, avis, cds and mpegs so there is no longer a need to see an entertainer right in front of your face, to know about them. Not to mention, they’re steadily expanding their physical reach, from Korea, to japan, china, taiwan, hk, thailand, malaysia, etc. Who’s to say that they won’t perform in Peru? France? the United Arab Emirates? Mexico? India? Israel? (they’re already here in the US). They already have fans in those areas dedicated to them, and the group not being mexican, indian or peruvian or not singing in spanish, arabic or dutch had anything to do it.
& agreeing w/ “wat???”, they already have an *active* fanbase in East Asia as well as Southeast Asia, and they do have a *growing* fanbase in South Asia (yes, pakistan, india, & nepal are a part of that), Central Asia (afghanistan, uzbekistan ~ thanks in part to the korean dramas that already air on the uzbek airwaves), and West Asia (Israel, Saudi, Iran, UAE, KSA, etc). DBSK is quite on its way on becoming a much-loved band by Asians all over.

It’s not a crime to have other Korean boybands in the media, but it just sounds ridiculous to challenge DBSK. If they really wanted to challenge DBSK, tell SS501 or any other band for that matter to get some real talent, then let the AUDIENCES decide for themselves.
Second point: fans, fangirls (many of them idiotic, no offense) can argue all they want about who’s better. But then again most of the time, it’s a who’s hotter competition. I think you can’t blame anyone for being popular, just because you don’t like them yourself. There has been a lot of artists that had a lot of exposure, but if the general public doesn’t embrace you, you go down the hill eventually.
I don’t want to see anymore SS501 vs. DBSK talents or looks or whatever. I’m a guy, and I have to say DBSK wins it all. DBSK has very impressive vocals, each and every one of them, and by impressive I actually mean better than most singers I have ever heard. They sing live better than recordings sometimes, they can dance (especially Yunho) VERY well, and they have very humble personalities. They also have really good looks, but not just any good looks. SS501 looks more like a Japanese boyband wanna-be, but DBSK has a unique image. They look different, but they look good. You can’t compare to that. SS501 just looks like any other long-dyed-hair boyband group I’ve seen.
DBSK cannot be compared. Don’t even tell me XXXXX is better. Hardly any group beats them in looks, and if they do, they lose in talent. And vice versa. It appeared to me that it was by god’s intervention that DBSK came together. Really deserves the meaning behind their band name. For a boyband that looks so good, their singing is also top-notch. Most really good looking boybands have members that were recruited due to looks, or were models beforehand. Not DBSK. Each and every one of them won talent contests. SM was lucky that JaeJoong, the best looks and singing contestant, happened to appear in that time frame.
Really, the only thing DBSK lacks is playing instruments or composing or whatever. Micky, as far as I know, has composed a few songs and his ‘Holding back the tears’ has made me obsessed. Then again, they don’t really need those technical aspects of music. Combined together, they are an extra acapella group, with distinct vocals that cannot be beaten: Xiah has a very unique and nice voice, Micky has a sort of melancholic and manly side to his voice, Hero’s is very powerful, high, and soft at the same time, Max’s is high to a point that it’s a wow factor (his high notes are almost on-par with record holders, seriously), and Yunho’s balances it out with the lower notes, and his dancing makes up for it anyways.
Well that’s all I gotta say.
Though I am certainly biased towards DBSK (but isn’t that because they’re so good in the first place that attracted my attention?), I have to say they beat every other boyband hands down.
Oh and to Japanese bands being better… find me a boyband that isn’t band-instruments based and is equally good-looking, vocally talented, good at dancing, and tall. Oh, and is dominating the Korean market as well. No right? That’s what I thought.

1: TVXQ IS THE MOST popular asian boy-band in Asia. Sure other groups might be in your opinion vocally better but doesn’t matter cause TVXQ is the most well known. 2. TVXQ’s fanclub does NOT only include 13-18 year old crazy teens, but people in their 20-40+. BECAUSE their promooted as a VOCAL AND DANCE GROUP<– you get it? as in they have real TALENT and can DANCE. in japan if your promoted as an idol group your a sure FAIL cause Johnny’s rule over japan with with hot ass untalented idols. And if you debut as a vocal group, unless you can sing real good live, cause you have to sing live EVERY SINGLE time, you aint making it big.
3. FANBASE doesnt matter? are you high? what makes you think allows the artists to make it big? allows them to become popular? THEIR FANS!!! -.-; stupid remark.

SS501’s short a cappella in that one WGM episode was quite good. I didn’t know they could sing like that. DBSK is known for amazing a cappella, but SS501 isn’t bad at all, in that at least.
But their company’s sheer stupidity of “challenging” two of SM’s bands with the most insane fangirls is near suicide.
Just wanted to reply to SSSuperstar. DBSK & SS501 are the same age. (’86) so if DBSK is gonna be old n wrinkly in 2 years, so would SS501. n not to mention…people dont get old n wrinkly in their mid twenties. idiot.
wow…im a total DBSK fan…but SS501 is awesome too….some of you guys are dissing SS501…but, even IF SS501 wants to beat DBSK, who cares? let them do what they want! as long as ur still a fan of DBSK, or whoever u want, ten it’s fine. If SS501 DOES plan to defeat DBSK(i highly doubt they did), all we fans can do is support them. Fyi, DBSk IS famous in Japan, infact they’re famous all around the world!

Ok, I’m damn late for this article. But OMG this is really saddening. and the reaction surprised me. The title seems harmless enough but the replies are so overwhelming.
I am a fan of both groups but I am actually more into SS501. but I am no way bias. being as neutral as I can be. I am a new fan of DBSK. I actually love SS501 before i know TVXQ. and it is so sad to see all these harmful words about SS501. Even before this, when I never listen to TVXQ, I never say bad things about them. So, it is sad for me as SS501 fan to read all these nasty stuffs from fans of a group that I recently like.
I dont really see the harm with SS501 wanting to challenge TVXQ. Its not like they’re challenging them for a duel. Its only to challenge themselves to be better. U guys should see this positively. If ur a fan of K-Pop, u should be supportive of all Korean artistes thats trying to enter other countries. Its great that TVXQ pave the way to other countries. This is to help other artistes to succeed too. I dont think they’re so selfish as to not allow other artistes to follow their footsteps. As seniors, I think they’ll be proud to see their juniors able to achieve success as them.
So, I hope everyone can think more mature and be more positive and open-minded about this things. I especially dont think bashing about looks are appropriate.
