At the end of the year, there are so many individual award shows that receiving an award seems almost meaningless, especially when multiple people receive the same award. What is the use of having a Daesang/Grand Prize award if you have to share it with someone else?
But of course, in a society that emphasizes the importance of status and position, these awards cannot be helped.
For MBC this year, 2 hit dramas, “Beethoven’s Virus” and the mighty production of “East of Eden” were obviously the big winners of the night. There can be no contest. Song Seung-heon and Kim Myung-min naturally picked up the Grand Prize for acting: the Daesang.
The 2008 MBC Drama Awards were held on December 30th, 2008.

Korea entertainment ind. is small and only lately they rise up to the world to see, but still a beginner. They think so big of themselves yet not look outside the square they lived in
SSH acting is OK, he got the look to cover half of his acting. Lee YeonHee is a newbie, but a bad one, she cant act and to think they give out award to her is bias
EoE drama hasnt finish filming yet they get awards, how bias is that

1st of all, hugs and kisses for the new year.
2nd of all, chill out sis/bro… this thing doesn’t even deserve wasting time on, right?
It’s all a part of MBC’s plan to grab even more attention and fuss.
3rd of all, I will say it loud and clear, I don’t like KMM!! but I can’t even utter a single word about his talent. The man is a genius in his craft, and of course one of the best actors out there in Korea. with that said, among the other actors in MBC’s dramas this year, him and ONLY him deserved the Daesang.
I don’t like SSH either, but I think his acting skills are improving, so it would be more appropriate to give him the Excellence award instead of the Daesang.
4th, please don’t talk about the ratings, cause they’re just numbers. I second lala… lala’s opinion and say the ratings DO NOT indicate neither the quality of the drama nor the excellence of an actor/actresses.
1st example: Lee Jun Ki… his (Ilijimae) got really good ratings. But his next drama (Time of Dog and Wolf) got really poor ratings. Does that mean he was bad in his second drama? nope. It means people didn’t like the concept of his 2nd drama which was kinda sad, gloomy and depressing.
2nd example: Kim Sun Ah… her 16 episodes drama (My name is KimSamSoon) got 50% in the ratings. And she was awarded the best actress for her role in that drama. Her next drama (When Night Comes) got 10% or less in the ratings. What Does that mean? the drama itself wasn’t as good, but KSA was still her same solid actress.
3rd example: Song Il Kook’s Jumong got 50% ratings and he was awarded the Top Excellence and the Daesang for his role in 2006. The Highest ratings his new drama (Kingdom Of The Winds) ever gotten was 19,2% … what does that mean? His acting skills are bad? nope, because he has just received the Top Excellence Award for his role in his new drama (2 days ago at the KBS Dramas Award).
4th Example: Moon Geon Young (21 years old) received the Daesang at the SBS Dramas Awards (2 days ago) for her role in the drama (Painter Of The Winds). Can you guess what were the ratings? they were merely 14%!!
so obviously, the ratings doesn’t matter in the term of acting, right?
that’s just my 2 cents.
Damn MBC for all this chaos… 1st the way they treated LDH and now the sharing of the Daesang *sigh*

high five buddy… I watched few of BV, some of POTW and now still watching KOTW… and I had to say that I feel so bad these 3 dramas were competing at the same time slot, cause all of them deserve 20%+ in ratings.

The reason why EOE won all these awards is because it had a political message in the plot. MBC is embroiled in an political war with the conservatives and EOE has a liberal, pro-NK twist. That’s why EOE winning all these awards was so controversial in Korea.

Whatever people say. I still love Lee Jun Ki, though he didn’t get the award. I think he still the best. And the time between dog & woWhatever the rating is.
