Another Korean hits Hollywood.
The trailer for Jang Dong-gun’s new action flick, “The Warrior’s Way” (formerly titled the awkward sounding, “Laundry Warrior” ) was leaked on Youtube last week, but was quickly pulled down. Directed and written by Sngmoo Lee, the 37 year old will play an Asian warrior (surprised?). We aren’t. Like his fellow Korean actors who are eyeing Hollywood, their only choice seems to be the stereotypical fighter/warrior/ninja ass-kicking type roles with limited dialogue. Jun Ji-hyun plays an knife-wielding, ass-kicking schoolgirl who is half-vampire. And Rain will be a ninja in the action, “Ninja Assassin.”

So will Jang Dong-gun’s new movie surprise and delight? Who knows….

It’s great thjat their making it in HOllywood, but they are breakign through HOllywood by using sterotypes (that could do more harm than good). It’s like Blacks who go after the “ghetto”, “poor”, sterotypical “hoodlum” roles…or the roles where they (men) dress up as women and make fun of themselves. Or like when anyone Latino takes a role as a gangbanger or osmeone who can’t speak English. Some roles, while sterotypical are ok to have, but many just damage your image (and everyone elses). Good luck I guess, but why couldn’t they go after some lead role where they are the love interest that works at a big company or facotry or a zoo or something? NO big deal I guess. Hope it works out.
